Imagine you get home from work and the light is on for a new message, and you're expecting something super heartfelt, but it just says "don't forget to take out the trash"
You could put this in an art gallery or museum. Have visitors write affirmations for other visitors. It would be such a fun interactive installation. Even have the paper shreds build up and in the end fill the entire room, forcing people to navigate trough the physical representation of words. I would love to have this.
Two things, I feel like this needs to make a regular appearance in your episodes now. As transition screens, or for sign offs. Imagine "three weeks later...." then it shreds. So good. Second, I would certainly buy this if you made it and sold it in your shop. Okay, a third thing. I would write "I want to tell you a secret. Flip me over..." By the time they read it, and learn they need to flip the paper, it will be shredding, and leave them with the existential dread of never knowing. I'd only use it for my enemies though...
So are we going to see a video where you make a similar device except that the paper turns into smoke and flames under an electric arc? (And not to forget triggers the smoke detector) all on the premise of not having to deal with those stupid paper shreds?

I once made a suggestion box for work that used a long sheet of black vinyl in an s-roller configuration to store written suggestion papers submitted on one roller while simultaneously releasing pre-shredded paper from the other roller into a clear plastic bin, below. It was hilarious watching the reactions of folks who saw their suggestions being shredded. But it was even better when they started making requests and asking questions like, "Tell me the meaning of life, the universe and everything." on their 'suggestions' and then seeing a stickie on their desk , the next day, with, "42". Eventually, they figured out that if they submitted suggestions on yellow legal paper, the shredding was all white paper.

I'd put my worries into the box. write down the worry, put it in the box, turn the light on. Go and reflect on the worry, and come back to shred it when I've processed and let the worry go!
That's so smart. When I have something that's weighing me down I usually write it down on a piece of paper and burn it. That has been my process since I was about 14 (I'm 33 now). It works for me.

They're a company that has literally gone through various law suits for SELLING CLIENTS PERSONAL HEALTH DATA WITH MARKETING AND OTHER COMPANIES!! They also have a track record of minimally paying their therapists and not going through the credentials, as well as over charging people and not ending account subscriptions when supposed to. They also don't have oversight of the therapy and some people have ended up worse off using better help than before they started. Please don't take my word for it - do your own research and make up your own mind, but I highly caution ANYONE from using better help.

I think maybe I'd use the confession box more as a "things I need to let go box". I'd write down something that I am struggling with letting go, place it in the box, and when I think I'm ready to watch it go away, let the box do its magic. Also I think I'd add a slot in the lid to feed the message without opening it. I'm already designing that part for 3D printing even though I don't have the skill to make the box itself. P.S. You're great!

Please do not use Better Help. They have been caught selling sensitive user data without consent. They settled out of court and are refunding 800,000 customers about $10.
Please please please do more research on better help, they have been known for doing some sketchy stuff like not screening their therapists to make sure they are licensed. Mickey Atkinson did a great video on what they’ve done with receipts
I would use it to start a detective movie. Victim walks into the room. Sees the metal lunch box. Is curious and opens it. The note says "The killer is behind you", they turn and scream. Camera does a close up of their face. Cut to black, and start the intro credits, with light jazz in the background.
See that L. May MFG. aluminum lunch box warmed my heart so much! Made in my hometown so miners can take their lunch underground and have a place to sit to eat. These lunchboxes are engrained in memory of my Grandfathers, my dad and uncles. And seeing what you did with my grand-papa's old lunch box, something that the women in my life would fill with food/love, was amazing, sentimental and absolutely made my day. Merci beaucoup!!!

I looked this up and there's a great article from March 2023 by The Verge which explains the FTC case about this. Apparently from 2017 to 2020 BetterHelp shared patient data (IP addresses and emails) with advertisers like Facebook. This isn't anything out of the ordinary, whenever you buy from an online shop the same thing happens. But because BetterHelp promised their customers that their data was being kept private, they're being charged with making misleading claims (up to $8million which will be paid to customers who used their service between 2017-2020). Not sure where the case is at now, the FTC website is undergoing maintenance so I can't check. Personally I wouldn't care if Facebook found out that I use a service like this and showed me targeted ads based on it. But I'm sure there are many scenarios for others where this could be very distressing. And I absolutely would be angry if I was told explicitly that my data was being kept private. Edit: I'm not in the USA and I'm definitely not a legal expert, so I have no idea if there's also talk of a HIPAA violation here.
Simone please look into the negative side of better help before accepting a sponsor... A lot of therapists are against it because 1 they sell private data 2 the therapists dont need certification (if i recall correctly) 3 scammy payment practices And other issues.... They are NOT a good company 😊

Love your work but thought I should try better help and had a terrible time! All their therapists were in the USA and they had no system to account for the time difference. The first therapist did half hour sessions by message and would take literally 5minutes to send less than 50 words. Second therapist was often driving when we had sessions. Cancelled my subscription when that therapist pulled into a drive through and started ordering food during my session... I actually couldn't believe it!
This is a flippin' amazing idea! Ooh what I'd do to have one. But I'm absolutely useless when it comes to building stuff. Or, alright, that was a lie. I'm quite good at it. As a grownup with big feelings, just keep in mind that traumadumping is something you can't really controll, so the guideline is nice, but kids need to be able to let feelings out whenever they need to, unless it is a really exrreme occassion.

If I had a confession box, I wouldn't actually write a "confession" on it, I would draw a random picture, then after it gets shredded I would pull all the shredded paper out and puzzle it back together in a new picture and see what I get.
My note to my partner would be: "this box & shredder combo accurately represents how my brain handles memories, but to me you are unforgettable" 😂 when I started dating my partner 8+ years ago we used the phrase "trash compactor brain" to describe how my brain handles many long-term memories. 5 years of data can condensed down into maybe 1-2 things I am able to remember from that time (trauma and PTSD do not work wonders for the mind). It’s damn scary to say out loud for the first time. I did four years ago, and only after I couldn’t stand keeping it inside myself any longer. You’ll know when you have to, and don’t wait any longer than that moment. I know I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t told my ma when I did.
I hope you can do it, took me a lot of time to do it myself, literally sat silent around my mum for hours until I managed to start the conversation. It obviously took her a few days to understand everything (nobody talks about that stuff here in Egypt) but she's now very supportive of me, we're actually much closer now, the closest we've been in a decade or more. (my dad though, that's a whole other story) BTW it took me 32 years to figure out myself, it's never too late. Edit: also one tip that could help, try to remember dysphoric moments from your life that your mum would remember, you might be surprised that she remembers them but couldn't really understand what you were going through (eg: times when you wanted to hide your body, moments when you cringed hard when she complemented your masculinity/femininity or called you a man/woman), this will help bridge the empathy and will strengthen the bond you have.

i have no idea why or how creators are still taking betterhelp sponsors, every video ive seen for YEARS has just had the comments literally begging for them to stop and i have yet to see even a single creator mention it, better help has been violating HIPPA regulations for years and theyre really just a horrible company, makes me so sad to see the creators i like work with them cuz it just shows how little research they do on their sponsors and how little they listen to all the people basically screaming in comments everywhere to stop i really admire simone and her vids and things shes said have stuck with me and helped me so much, but seeing that sponsor while knowing how just how _much_ people hate it can only make you think. while in the grand scheme of things, i have overwhelming amounts of respect for her, id be lying if i didnt say seeing betterhelp specifically didnt make me lose an acknowledgeable amount even if she cant do anything about the segment because of some contract it would be nice for her to at least respond to the backlash

This is so much fun, it might be my favorite of your projects (besides Truckla). My wife and I like all kinds of puzzles/riddles, so I think my note would be something like a top line that says "Have fun taping" with some kind of riddle below that she won't have enough time to solve so she'd have to tape all the pieces back together :P And then the solution to the riddle would be something along the lines of "thanks for helping put me back together when I fall apart"

When she feels she has the energy for a message, she opens the box, and a preloaded message pops up for her to enjoy. Kyle could load the machine with select encouraging messages from family, friends, and followers for her to enjoy at her own pace.
Your library ladder brought back so many memories. I scaled them at the U of I archives. They were wider and with handrails but were far more difficult to move: Giant stacks of shelves with more writing than could be read in a lifetime. I'd put in my moms Tuna fish pasta salad recipe. ~MOM'S TUNA-MACARONI SALAD~ 1 package (6 or 7 ounces) shell macaroni 1 cup cubed Cheddar cheese 1 can (7 ounces) tuna, drained 3/4 cup sliced sweet pickles (chopped) 1/3 cup minced onion 1 cup mayonnaise 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 2 cloves garlic, crushed Cook macaroni. Drain; rinse with cold water. Combine macaroni, cheese, tuna, pickles and onion in large bowl. Stir together salad dressing, salt, pepper and garlic; pour over macaroni mix- ture and toss. Cover; chill at least 3 hours. If dry, add pickle juice. 6 TO 8 SERVINGS.

... why you gotta accept sponsorships from better help??? They're a company that has literally gone through various law suits for SELLING CLIENTS PERSONAL HEALTH DATA WITH MARKETING AND OTHER COMPANIES!! They also have a track record of minimally paying their therapists and not going through the credentials, as well as over charging people and not ending account subscriptions when supposed to. They also don't have oversight of the therapy and some people have ended up worse off using better help than before they started. Please don't take my word for it - do your own research and make up your own mind, but I highly caution ANYONE from using better help.

I think maybe I'd use the confession box more as a "things I need to let go box". I'd write down something that I am struggling with letting go, place it in the box, and when I think I'm ready to watch it go away, let the box do its magic. Also I think I'd add a slot in the lid to feed the message without opening it. I'm already designing that part for 3D printing even though I don't have the skill to make the box itself. P.S. You're great!

Please please please do more research on better help, they have been known for doing some sketchy stuff like not screening their therapists to make sure they are licensed. Mickey Atkinson did a great video on what they’ve done with receipts

See that L. May MFG. aluminum lunch box warmed my heart so much! Made in my hometown so miners can take their lunch underground and have a place to sit to eat. These lunchboxes are engrained in memory of my Grandfathers, my dad and uncles. And seeing what you did with my grand-papa's old lunch box, something that the women in my life would fill with food/love, was amazing, sentimental and absolutely made my day.

I looked this up and there's a great article from March 2023 by The Verge which explains the FTC case about this. Apparently from 2017 to 2020 BetterHelp shared patient data (IP addresses and emails) with advertisers like Facebook. This isn't anything out of the ordinary, whenever you buy from an online shop the same thing happens. But because BetterHelp promised their customers that their data was being kept private, they're being charged with making misleading claims (up to $8million which will be paid to customers who used their service between 2017-2020). Not sure where the case is at now, the FTC website is undergoing maintenance so I can't check.
Personally I wouldn't care if Facebook found out that I use a service like this and showed me targeted ads based on it. But I'm sure there are many scenarios for others where this could be very distressing. And I absolutely would be angry if I was told explicitly that my data was being kept private.
Edit: I'm not in the USA and I'm definitely not a legal expert, so I have no idea if there's also talk of a HIPAA violation here.

Simone please look into the negative side of better help before accepting a sponsor... A lot of therapists are against it because
1 they sell private data
2 the therapists dont need certification (if i recall correctly)
3 scammy payment practices

Love your work but thought I should try better help and had a terrible time! All their therapists were in the USA and they had no system to account for the time difference. The first therapist did half hour sessions by message and would take literally 5minutes to send less than 50 words. Second therapist was often driving when we had sessions. Cancelled my subscription when that therapist pulled into a drive through and started ordering food during my session... I actually couldn't believe it!
This is a flippin' amazing idea! Ooh what I'd do to have one. But I'm absolutely useless when it comes to building stuff. Or, alright, that was a lie. I'm quite good at it.

As a grownup with big feelings, just keep in mind that traumadumping is something you can't really controll, so the guideline is nice, but kids need to be able to let feelings out whenever they need to, unless it is a really exrreme occassion.

If I had a confession box, I wouldn't actually write a "confession" on it, I would draw a random picture, then after it gets shredded I would pull all the shredded paper out and puzzle it back together in a new picture and see what I get.
"What did the horse say when it fell down? Help I've fallen and can't giddy up." This is what I would write for my kids to find in the box.
My note to my partner would be: "this box & shredder combo accurately represents how my brain handles memories, but to me you are unforgettable" 😂 when I started dating my partner 8+ years ago we used the phrase "trash compactor brain" to describe how my brain handles many long-term memories. 5 years of data can condensed down into maybe 1-2 things I am able to remember from that time (trauma and PTSD do not work wonders for the mind). I love this shredder concept!

It’s damn scary to say out loud for the first time. I did four years ago, and only after I couldn’t stand keeping it inside myself any longer. You’ll know when you have to, and don’t wait any longer than that moment. I know I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t told my ma when I did.

I hope you can do it, took me a lot of time to do it myself, literally sat silent around my mum for hours until I managed to start the conversation. It obviously took her a few days to understand everything (nobody talks about that stuff here in Egypt) but she's now very supportive of me, we're actually much closer now, the closest we've been in a decade or more. (my dad though, that's a whole other story)
BTW it took me 32 years to figure out myself, it's never too late.
Edit: also one tip that could help, try to remember dysphoric moments from your life that your mum would remember, you might be surprised that she remembers them but couldn't really understand what you were going through (eg: times when you wanted to hide your body, moments when you cringed hard when she complemented your masculinity/femininity or called you a man/woman), this will help bridge the empathy and will strengthen the bond you have.

i have no idea why or how creators are still taking betterhelp sponsors, every video ive seen for YEARS has just had the comments literally begging for them to stop and i have yet to see even a single creator mention it, better help has been violating HIPPA regulations for years and theyre really just a horrible company, makes me so sad to see the creators i like work with them cuz it just shows how little research they do on their sponsors and how little they listen to all the people basically screaming in comments everywhere to stop
i really admire simone and her vids and things shes said have stuck with me and helped me so much, but seeing that sponsor while knowing how just how _much_ people hate it can only make you think.
while in the grand scheme of things, i have overwhelming amounts of respect for her, id be lying if i didnt say seeing betterhelp specifically didnt make me lose an acknowledgeable amount

This is so much fun, it might be my favorite of your projects (besides Truckla). My wife and I like all kinds of puzzles/riddles, so I think my note would be something like a top line that says "Have fun taping" with some kind of riddle below that she won't have enough time to solve so she'd have to tape all the pieces back together :P And then the solution to the riddle would be something along the lines of "thanks for helping put me back together when I fall apart"

With a slight modification, this is exactly the kind of message device Dianna would love. The mod - make it produce a message, rather than shred it. When she feels she has the energy for a message, she opens the box, and a preloaded message pops up for her to enjoy. Kyle could load the machine with select encouraging messages from family, friends, and followers for her to enjoy at her own pace.
This was so lovely and charming, I would 10/10 use a “share hard feelings and/or jokes” box with a partner!!
Your library ladder brought back so many memories. I scaled them at the U of I archives. They were wider and with handrails but were far more difficult to move: Giant stacks of shelves with more writing than could be read in a lifetime. I'd put in my moms Tuna fish pasta salad recipe.
~MOM'S TUNA-MACARONI SALAD~
1 package (6 or 7 ounces) shell macaroni
1 cup cubed Cheddar cheese
1 can (7 ounces) tuna, drained
3/4 cup sliced sweet pickles (chopped)
1/3 cup minced onion
1 cup mayonnaise
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cloves garlic, crushed
Cook macaroni. Drain; rinse with cold water.
Combine macaroni, cheese, tuna, pickles and onion in large bowl. Stir together salad dressing, salt, pepper and garlic; pour over macaroni mix- ture and toss. Cover; chill at least 3 hours. If dry, add pickle juice.
