for opto comp recommendations: i'd love to see what you think about the "bx_opto" compressor plugin. It came with my Presonus interface. also would like to learn how to use it more effectively in my vocal chain.
I really appreciate your videos. As a fellow Christian Hip Hop artist who is learning to mix and master my own music, it's hard finding solid tutorials without all the lyrics full of cursing and sex. The Lord has been dealing with me about that. Going forward, you and another guy will be my go to for mixing and mastering tutorials.
Love the sound and vibe of this, when is this song coming out? Great mixing as always. My question is would it be wrong to make a slight cut on this vocal in the 2.5k or 3Kish range as well? I'm just so sensitive to that frequency range just want to know your thoughts on this. Can't wait for more vids. Your channel is like a Netflix series for me. I hate having to wait for more vids 😂😂😂
Glad I watched this. I initially thought this new feature wouldn’t work in Logic bc it is based on VST3 vs AU, but I guess it makes since now that I think of it since StudioRack is technically accessing the plugins, not Logic 😀🙌🏾 Either way, thank you! Btw, your vocal chains are the best!
Hey Sean, your Divine Mixing Vocal Chains have been with me in my world for many years since V1. I can't even count my projects anymore, I have Studio Rack with your presets on all my tracks so often. Yesterday I updated Waves to V15 and had to painfully realize that Waves has renamed the plugin Studio Rack to Studio Verse Audio Effects. This means that all my projects are now unusable because the plugin no longer exists. I just wanted to let you know about this.
Studio Verse Audio Effects should replace StudioRack in your previous sessions. It will load the new plugin but all your settings will also load identically. All presets from StudioRack are fully compatible also!
Sean another question, I was told that you cannot get a great mix that competes with other records out there if you don't use parallel compression. Do you agree or disagree?
No rules in mixing and certainly not always going to achieve a great mix the same way. I do use parallel compression but not in every session - only as necessary :)
Hey Sean so I record on fl and im confused with the whole mixing and mastering. Do i add these effects in and then in the mastering the limiter? because wouldn't i need to edit adlibs differently?
Hi Sean, bro i rap with a lil bit more dynamics than this vocal on the video and i use different intonations, cause of that my 1176 needle goes crazy fast, should i use like a Rcomp in opto mode with just 1 or 2db gain reduction to control a lil bit more or should i reduce the attack on the 1176?
@@SeanDivineok so apparently Kiive Audio also has a Cl1B. Might be a cool video to do a comparison on. Bunch of folks in the comments of Help Me Devvon talking about how bad the Softube version is compared to Kiive. 🤷🏾♀️
Generally speaking, no. Some of the older analog modelled plugins are more sensitive to gain staging and are designed to process signals optimally at levels like -18. I say use your ears to hear how it’s reacting and if it sounds good, it is good :)

@@SeanDivine Do it my man, I'm running them native and they are great. I have the subscription at the mo. You can trial them for 14 days. They also have bundles and sales. I think they have seen the writing on the wall with Mac's and PC's being so powerful these days.
The main benefits are 1. Being able to save a template that can work in any daw. 2. Being able to turn any stage into Multi-Band. 3. The Macros can be used to really customize HOW you mix. Although some DAWs already have this feature. I personally used it a bunch when it first came out for the multiband but I've stopped using it as much.
Hey Sean thanks for the idea! Im curious about the order of how you have the chain in the video. Many of the famous Rap vocal hardware chains i've seen in pictures / videos would be a rack case with a - Sony C800-G / U47/87 > Neve / BAE 1073 > CL1B > Apollo x6 - - Now, in your video you have the 1073 going right into the 1176. Was just wanting to ask about that. If I owned a real 1073, I would in fact just go to the CL1B directly right? Or are all those guys sending and returning to the CL1B?
In my uneducated eyes this StudioRack plugin seems to serve as a canvas for other plugins, similar to an aux. chanel. So I was wondering what exactly is the difference between the two? Why dont you simply make your vocal chain directly in a aux chanel? Thanks!
Parallel splits (no need for seperate FX aux), multiband splits, easy internal sidechaining, macro controls, saving / loading your StudioRack chains in any DAW to name a few :)

Mastering Chains SR presets if you want lots of different styles and prefer to be able to tweak / learn some of the processing that's happening behind the scenes :)
