I just came home from teaching a class on sampling and extreme audio effects in Ableton, then saw this, and realized that I'm still playing catch up to what they did in 1993.
I swear the first time I heard this (on Tabula Rasa) I thought "what just happened to me?" I didn't even know there was a video for this until recently - incredible
This boy was as beautiful as Bowie. Perhaps moreso. It's astonishing. Just found him today through Nick Cave (only found cave a week ago). I feel my 46 years have been wasted...
The original song was released on "Tabula Rasa" album (93), but this version seems a bit different. I think that this one in English is from a EP that was released just before the album. Normally Blixa didn't sing in English...I got this version on a cassette but not on CD !
@JODIDOMIZIO Correct. It was simply called "Interim Lovers," and was my first exposure to the band. It had this version, Salamadrina, Ring My Bell, and then the German version as I recall. I've never seen another copy of that EP and I lent mine out years ago, never to return. My copy was a CD, and had a humming bird hovering at a flower on the cover.
In 1993, they had an interview in Mondo2000, and Blixa talked about the packaging for the EPs and the Tabula Rasa album. They used those cardboard digipaks, which were nicer than the plastic "clamshell" things most CDs got. Blixa had a fly from a still life painting put in the center of the plastic thing in the middle that grips the CD. He said the plastic thing was called a "spider", so he fed it a fly. I had that EP, I bought it without having heard them before. Afterward, I bought a bunch of their earlier stuff like Halber Mensch at Bleecker Bob's. I met Blixa Bargeld in Rainbow Grocery in SF, CA in around 2005 or 6. He was very nice and charming. Einstűrdenze Neubauten was the artsiest band around the 80s and 90s.
what...? he's not the german trent reznor, they're absolutely different musicians, they have different kinds od sensibility and different ways to express it. although they're both great.
Oh absolutely. All the girls love Blixa. Well, I do, anyway. And you do, obviously. He looks SO cute in this video, and this is quite a romantic song, too.
Care to terrify your neighbors when they are making love? Play this, really loud. Blixa Bargeld was so important to the Bad Seeds....so too were Kid Congo and Hugo Race while the bad seeds were Germinating.
The most influential band you never heard of.
I wish every video had a singing blixa in the corner.
this comment made me laugh so hard 😂😂
I wish I had blixa translating everything I said.
I used to play this song on my radio show in college twenty years ago.
So sad that so few today understand how much Einst changed music.
even now this is ahead of its time
your comment is from 9 years ago and it still reigns true today

Would love to see a video of just Blixa's interpretation 😍
Masterpiece
Great version in English---However, I prefer the German version --- Heavier!
Agreed... albeit 6 years late! Die Interimsliebenden was a great track... Tabula Rasa was my first Neubauten album. Good times!

I had the same EP back in the 90s. I found it at a thrift store. It disappeared though.

NIN sounds like Einstürzende Neubauten, not the other way around.
