Toguro embodies the power of symplicity. With Sensui, he is extremely complex, but Toguro has a large amount of depth that stands him apart from most villains in shonen
Toguro is not a simple antagonist, he's also a mentor for Urameshi. He force him further his limit to avenge genkai and be stronger than him to protect his friends and at least give a decent death in battle. The simplicity of Toguro jr is compense by the deep of his personality
ToGOATuro is easily my favorite villain in all of fiction. The way he kept me hyped, anxious and excited for the entire dark tournament arc will always be deeply ingrained in my soul 📿🙏🗿
I took toguros character as someone who was so stricken by grief and feeling powerless, that he threw away his life and love and now he just looks back on regret, that he can live forever in a meaningless strong life if he wanted to or a short life that meant something and being with the ones he loved. He feels he made the worst possible decisions he could have and wanted to steer yusuke to not do that and put him thru similar thing he was to see if anyone could do better. Realizing he has nothing to live for and nothing waiting for him in the afterlife, he feels less than nothing and doesnt even accept the lesser punishment he was offered and insists on being put in purgatory for 10,000 years of suffering and then just not existing after. The dude was just full of pain and regret and didnt want to be around anymore.
"A man with a wounded heart and broken dream." Great use of that line from the show to finish a great video dude. Toguro turned his life into a self made prison to atone for what in his mind were his failures. Finding that out as we go through the story makes his a cut above the rest. I feel like he felt it a perfect ending to be defeated by Yusake. Not only go out at 100% to satisfy warrior side of himself. Also to be defeated by someone with a connection to Genkai as some sort of "you were right". He was also helped Yusake down a better path to a beautiful life.
Certainly one of my favorite characters in all of anime/manga. Not only on a surface level, as he is a gigachad, terminator/dukenukem looking badass, but his characterization is so interesting and well written, plus his dynamic with Yusuke. And that final fight was simply nothing short of amazing
Him and Sensui are amazing villains. No joke, Toguro alone got me to write a story as a hobby so it could with a villain like Toguro in it. Watching these makes me want to try and flesh him out more.

I liked the Toguro brothers because both have simple moves (bigger muscles and shapeshifting) but that's all they need to feel threatening and unbeatable.
Toguro will always stand out as one of the most memorable and scarily brave characters in fiction. He willingly went to the worst torture dimension for 10k cycles of 10k years of torture because of his guilt. That is 1 billion years in hell for only 50 years of his sins. My head canon is that Koenma told Toguro that he would sentence him that much to appease his honor and wishes only surface level and instead sentenced him to like 1000 years. No matter what though his ending always makes me cry even after watching the show 4 times since 2009!
Amusingly he could just fought Sensui who was already more powerful than him if he just wanted to get crushed horribly. Or the two of them could just asked Konema to give them access to the demon world, and they both could gone there skipping their clashes with Yuseke and all the plots they created to get their situation to happen. With Shinobu Sensui already dying I'm sure they would made it a make a wish thing to let them go die in the demon world. Given how series end with human and demon world connected again, they both got their wish of access to the Demonworld if they were able to wait it out. It would been interesting to see if Toguro could grown stronger with stronger foes or how he would have responded to being a small fish in a very large pond.

@@gr8gmr you may be right but there had to be a better way to develop his character. There are plenty of incredible antagonists in anime and manga even when we know their motives beforehand.
I almost barfed when you added Meruem to the greatest shonen villains list. He was the worst villain in the worst arc of one of my most loved series. He was trash and Togashi should be ashamed of himself for creating that boring ass character.
@@Icee64 The best villain is Kira. He had no morals and was willing to take down his own family in order to achieve his goal and rule the world. Meruem is a bug that played checkers for half his screen time, got hit with a nuke, and then died 5 minutes later.
@Icee64 Yall can laugh all ypu want, I've seen the Ant arc 3 times and it sucks 95% because of Meruem. I'm glad Togashi got back on track with the next arc and then going forward with the dark continent. It is infinitely more interesting than watching some bug get slapped around by Netero.
@@blacksunshine9995 nah Meruem is a coming of age story where he knows nothing about the world and yet tries to claim it but by the end he learns that it’s not about that and put his relationship with Komugi first. Glazing way to hard😂😂😂is this your first shonen or something 😂😂
Toguro is a bamf!
Madara Uchiha is the greatest shonen villain 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My only problem with Toguro is that we learn about his backstory and motives too late in the arc. It makes him feel less developed than he could have been.
I think if we found out about it too early, he wouldn't be viewed as the villain that he's supposed to be.
@@gr8gmr you may be right but there had to be a better way to develop his character. There are plenty of incredible antagonists in anime and manga even when we know their motives beforehand.
🧢
Ehhhhhhhhhhh def not but he is a good one
The live action ruined his character development.
greatest?please...Sensui are above him
Nope
stop saying yurameshi. its lame
Togashi is the biggest shonen villain because he's a lazy crybaby bum
Nah sensui is better
I almost barfed when you added Meruem to the greatest shonen villains list. He was the worst villain in the worst arc of one of my most loved series. He was trash and Togashi should be ashamed of himself for creating that boring ass character.
😂😂😂😂
quite literally the best one he listed there besides Aizen lmao show us some real villains then 😂
@@Icee64 The best villain is Kira.
I really like that he grows and learns over the course of the arc to the point even Netero falters for a moment on fighting him. I do agree the arcs that came after are really good esp rn. also Kira as in Light Yagami??
