Hi and welcome to the seventh lesson in DMAD - Marine Mammals Research Association's second free QGIS course. This course if for beginners to intermediates. In this lesson we look at some very, very habitat modelling using the buffer tool and proximity to water. We'll extend our habitat modelling over the upcoming lessons.

Hiya, these videos are great! Thank you.
I haven’t had an issue previously, but on this example when I create a buffer it seems to select a very large area - almost the entire map. I was wondering why this is?

Hi Lauren Rose, what are the units when you go to put the buffer on? Did you make sure to do it in km? If you only had the units to do it in degrees then you need to make sure your project your polygons into a suitable CRS first. For Montenegro, UTM34N is a good bet.

@@dmadmarinemammalsresearcha3966 Thank you for the reply! I set it to 1.00 km and ensured the CRS was set to UTM34N - So I am not sure why this error occurred.

@@laurenrose5396 That is very strange. Are you using the data files from the lessons? and if not where in the world is your data located?

The only other thing I can think of is just to check that your project CRS (Project -> properties and then select CRS (third tab down on the left) and make sure it is set to the same although in theory this shouldn't make a difference. Apologies I can't be more help, it's very difficult to diagnose the problems without being able to see them.
