Not really the women and children first thing was pretty much exclusively British policy that was made into a common concept by the notoriety of its use on titanic. The policy itself dates to about 1852 in the aftermath of the sinking of HMS Birkenhead (and indeed at the time of titanic women and children first was still widely referred to as Birkenhead drill) a British troopship that sunk off South Africa and like titanic didn't enough lifeboats, the redcoats on board helped the women and children into the lifeboats then stood in formation on deck as the ship went down after the ship went down they kept to orders not to swim towards the lifeboats so as not to swamp them and so most drowned or were eaten by sharks (survivors were those in the rigging as the water was shallow, the men who survived the sharks when swimming to shore, some men holding on to planks and three men who ignored orders and made for the lifeboats (they were likely part of a later court martial) out of 643 people 193 are said to have survived but the loss of the roll books with the ship mean the the true number is impossible to attain. The actions of the soldiers was widely acclaimed and lead to "the Birkenhead drill" becoming unofficial British naval code up into the disaster of the titanic. Also plenty of guys at the titanic disagree with the order and added with general disorder on deck as the lifeboats were filling and probably contributed to them being sent off so empty.
no not really. he was sitting in her spot. that lady had every right to be there instead of him. what part of women and children first do you people not understand?

It's a shame we'll be losing such a great feat of engineering to nature eventually, but at the same time it's a great example of man's hubris as well. We created something believed to be indestructible, and it was proven to not be the case. It infuriates me that the captain's singular and prideful decision to handle the fire himself cost so many lives. I'm glad this ship is forever preserved both in history books, and on the internet.
Eva Heart, a survivor of the titanic once said... "I hope they would never raise the titanic, because to me just as a very oridinary individual, it is my fathers grave, and I would rather it were left untouched"
regardless of what they do to or with the ship it's still going to be a grave site no matter what I would want as much of it preserved as possible that way it could be a memorial forever
That is my first thought as to why it wouldn't be raised. over a thousand people went down with the Titanic and as such it should be treated as a grave Site and respectfully left alone.

Exactly. The fact that the ice hit right on the most weakened part of the ship proves an act of God. The statement "Not even God could sink this ship" clearly cursed the entire vessel
15 years ago, the local museum had a Titanic exhibition where many artifacts that were recovered from the shipwreck were on display. The China and silverware still looked brand new.

It wasnt an ice berg well it was but there furnace thingy made the metal weak and a few holes small ones so the ice berg easily broke itp otherwise it wouldnthave sunk
It's pretty clear that even if you could lift it out of the deep entrenchment, it would likely fall apart in the process. The same for the stern. It would be an astounding thing to study if it were possible, but it's not possible. And it also marks a pretty sizeable gravesite for a lot of people. It's definitely in its final resting spot.
True, its been too long since it sunk. The metal has become a death trap to everything that enter inside of it. The only solution (because of time) is to let it fade away.
It's not a final resting spot for a lot of people to be honest the sea probably washed them from the vessel it's self and they probably drifted miles and miles away from the actual wreckage it's self
@@alfonsohernandez237 Not all of the bodies. Sure, a lot of them, but not all. There are gravesites on the lower decks where passengers were locked inside during the sinking, their shoes and other artifacts are still there to this day. When I was a kid, this story was so incredible to me. Today, it feel actually the same to me. Its truly terrible to lose a lot of loved ones in an ill-fated but beautiful ship that I have ever seen by picture.
It fell apart before it sank. One of the survivors claimed for years (though few believed him) that he saw the ship rip apart before it plunged into the ocean. He was proved correct when Dr. Ballard went down there in the eighties.
It’s well past the “starting point.” It’s considerably closer to the ending point. She won’t survive too much longer due to the lower quality iron that she was built from, along with the bacteria that’s eating away at the iron.
_Fun fact:_ Titanic's larger sister ship, The Britannic, was also sunk 3yrs later but from a mine floating in the ocean left by the Germans in WW1. Almost everyone was saved because they had enough lifeboats.
And plus they also knew not to repeat the mistakes and failures that occurred on Titanic, not just because they had sufficient lifeboats but they also were very organized when they evacuated the ship
Likely everyone would have been saved except for a rather gruesome error: one lifeboat was launched before the ship's engines had stopped (the captain was hoping to beach the Britannic so it could be saved), and it was sucked into the propellers.😳
@@Palestine4Ever169 if you watch the scene where the lifeboats try to scoop survivors from the freezing waters...the lights and camera sweep slowly over a lifeless mother and pale lifeless baby... I live in Belfast and the surreal thing is that anytime I'm watching any movies or documentaries about Titanic I literally just looking out my window and see the shipyard where it was built. Gives me chills somethimes.
So to anyone saying that it’s possible to raise it. Nope. It’s feasibly impossible. And before I even begin to explain why, let me start with this: “You really want to go to all that trouble for a ship?” Even disregarding the fact that the ship is now in two halves strewn about a half mile debris field, the metal and forging methods were subpar leading to the further destruction of the hull and superstructure as it sank and faced more pressure. Let alone saying anything about the absolutely trashed state of the aft (rear) section of the ship, the stern (front) section itself is also not secure. A good example of this is the stern’s top deck of the ship, so famous in the movie for the king of the world and flying scenes, being probably a good 10 feet lower, at least, than it was when the ship was built. That’s not even mentioning that the means to raise it would take a massive engineering feat that would require the attachment of floatation devices that could withstand the massive amounts of pressure at the bottoms of the ocean floor. There’s only two ways to do that that have even a remote of success, welding the floatation devices or tying them to the ship via chain, and both are extremely complicated when the logistics of it are broken down, leading to a 99.9% chance of it failing. To weld it would require hundreds of man hours to properly weld the floatation devices via deep sea submersible. You couldn’t send down a man in a suit because of the pressure, and welding it requires a very close up view. While raising it, though, one would face the subpar construction as it would rise through the water possibly leading to even more degradation. (And if you mention the Costa Concordia, that was done in shallow water to a largely intact ship.) The chain, while the more feasible of the two, would probably be the less reliable to do so. And it could only be a chain due to the immense pressures facing a rope possibly leading to the disintegration of the rope. And again one faces the degraded hull as it rises out of the water. (And if you think it will work, look up the story of the SS Cayuga, a ship that sank near the Mackinaw straits in Lake Michigan that was the subject of repeated refloating attempts, that also attempted the same method as proposed above.) Now, if someone was actually crazy enough to do it and has the capital to somehow pull it off, and does so, the problem that comes after though is the logistics. Let alone laws in the United States forbidding such actions signed after the wreck’s discovery, the wreck site is protected by UNESCO, the lead body on determining what should be internationally recognized for cultural preservation. Even then, in the decades following the sinking, there were legal battles over who technically owned the wreck, and attempted salvaging operations. Following its discovery and exploration, there companies that planned to survey and, more controversially, salvage the wreck. Following the salvage operations, which were MAJORLY lambasted, people criticized the company’s decision to SELL items, as if they were trinkets of little value. So I must ask again, although this time in more detail, “You want to deal with the obvious logistical, financial, legal, and public perception troubles that come with raising the wreck, not even mentioning the preservation to the already degraded ship, and think that it’s worth it?” If you answered yes, I don’t know what to say except keep dreaming. It’s never gonna happen in this or the ship’s lifetime.
Imagine being on that Ship, that night. Seriously..... Stop what you're doing, close your eyes and Imagine being there. It's Freezing Cold, and BEAUTIFUL outside on the deck. There's a ZILLION stars pasted to the sky above you, the ship brushes an iceberg and...... the clock starts.
2nd Officer Lightoller survived. I think his mindset was different from most of the passengers. He's been around ships all his life, fallen off the deck into the ocean several times, experienced bobbing in the waves. He was aware that most of the lifeboats had been launched not fully loaded. Even though he dove off the roof of the bridge mere minutes before the ship sank beneath the waves, he felt no sense of panic.
So right. We should respect the place and leave it as it is. Those exhibitions of china and other things picked up are way enough as "memorabilia" for viewing.
But when a plane crashes im guessing you’re totally fine with picking up the wreckage and bodies though. But wait, why? Isn’t that a huge cemetery where the victims spent their last moments on earth? Your logic doesn’t make sense. In fact nobody dies in their final resting place unless they steal a coffin, dig a grave, put the coffin in the grave and kill them selves in the coffin. And even then you’re technically disrespecting them by throwing dirt over it.
@@mikerenlund9802 I mean- yeah because it’s a plane- not a giant ship from underneath the water, it’s easier to get a plane that is a ship, plus we couldn’t really get the titanic up even if we wanted to, I can agree it doesn’t really make sense, The best we could do is go inside like divers do, but idk anymore, I think it’s best to just leave it as it is idk tho, plus the bacteria eating away at the metal will soon devour it so there’s really no point, but if we did bring it up isn’t that disrespectful? because the bodies of people are there, they may not have gotten a coffin and actually made it a resting place but they are still dead there.
@@amandawildsmith9448 but the argument is they say it’s disrespectful. Dying is glory for them. Thats why they had fearless warriors back then and kamikazes. It was in their culture, they live in peace and harmony but everything changed when the fire nation attacked and destroyed their village. And when he was the most needed, he vanished. @@cabs9310 It wasn't so much that as to the fact that due to the fact they had half the number of lifeboats needed to save everybody, that they were designated for women and children only. Kamikaze pilots are shamed for returning, because they vowed to give their lives for Japan, and even had a sacred ritual to commemorate this as well where they would drink and other things that were not only used/done for important instances but they were also being celebrated and honored for their upcoming sacrifice.
@ayam penyet If you don't want hate, then how about refraining from nit picking and take in the big picture? The initial comment was amusing, yours is just annoying.
There are two facts that this video failed to mention or just plain glossed over 01 ) The water tight bulkheads did not go up to the main deck. In fact the water tight bulkheads did not even go up to the same decks. They cut off at different decks. This contributed to the sinking as the water spilled over the bulkheads and moved on to the next section 02 ) Because the ships construction was riveted together this brought up fatigue cracks in the steel. As we have learned in the 120 years since the sinking of the RMS Titanic because of plane disasters all it takes is a fatigue crack in the wrong spot will doom either a ship or an airplane. Just look at the de Havilland Comet. Because the windows were square the fatigue cracks that eventually lead to two planes exploding in mid air.
That’s not the true reason why it can’t be recovered yes it’s pretty damaged but the true reason is it’s a government site now it’s a graveyard and would be highly illegal to lift it out of the sea

Ground Zero in NY has technically been turned into a museum and graveyard and i dont see anything wrong with it. The two waterfall holes in the ground act as a memorial and grave site with all victims names carved into the stone surrounding the deep holes where the buildings once stood. There is a building made out of recycled pieces of the wtc towers that acts as a train station/mall and there is a small museum with salvaged pieces of the towers for people to pay respects to. The same reason they exhume 1000 year old bodies, because they are selfish. The dead should RIP. The living should, leave them alone or at worst put them back, once they have done their research. Not put them in a dam museum.
Dr Robert Ballard book on the discovery is amazing read, lots of image from above and under the water.. There's also other reasons why she may have sank, the mummy tomb that had a curse on anyone who moved it and also the rivets not being the right metal compesition. I think a lot of factors played into the sinking of titanic.it's so upsetting to see the condition of her now from when she was first discovered. Also another vid I watched showed there is 60-80 feet of sand clogging her down, ( the still hung anchor chain should have up to 80feet of ship under it yet current images show the sand and crap off the bottom just under the anchor. So sad.. RIP my favourite ship..

It was only published in July. Most posts are stumbled upon. I searched for the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald song and visited here on my UA-cam adventure tonight.
The titanic was not discovered untill 1985 and for those that do not know the she lies roughly 12500 feet below surface over 2 miles down. The titanic gave distress signals as she was going down however there was no exact location more like a rough idea of where she sank. Now we did not have the technology to ping sonar at those depths accurately so it took many years to discover her. Even in 1985 the fact we could find the wreckage was amazing and we really couldn't explore it well because submarines in that time struggled to safely go that far down past the crush point. So for those saying you could recover her I'm sorry to say your wrong today what's left of her hull if paper thin and would not survive being pulled up and I know many people ask why didn't they recover the ship 20 years after she fell and the answer is they didn't know where it was and they did not have the technology to do so then.

There was a traveling exhibition I saw in Phoenix, they had artifacts in replicas to depict portions of the ship as you went thru the exhibit. When it came to the point in the story to tell of the iceberg, a large piece of Titanic was there under "starry skies" and the air was cold to replicate the circumstances of that night. A little imagination goes a long way. At the beginning of the exhibit each person was given a name of a passenger so at the end of the journey you search the records to find how the person's story turns out. Very interesting, one of my best trips to the museum!
lol narrator guy did say though that the Titanic couldve maybe survived the iceberg crash if she didnt get attacked at her weakest spot! The fact a fire broke out and weakened exactly that area absolutely blows my mind

They took coal from her sister ship Olympic for Titanic's maiden voyage. If she had collided with the iceberg head on, it probably would have survived. The rivets were made of cast iron while the plating was of steel, but of poor quality. They speculated that the extreme cold of the water caused the rivets to become brittle and as it slid past the iceberg, it popped off the heads of the rivets. Also, from evidence provided by the survivors, she possibly rode over an under water ice shelf of the iceberg causing further damage to the hull and possibly breaking off one of the blades of the propeller causing a vibration reported by the passengers. It's amazing that the sinking of the Titanic is still a very talked about event all these 110 years!

Damn the part with the woman who lied about having a husband and kid.... the guy did have a wife and kid though
He likely still would have given her his seat. Men were built differently from men today back then.

It's a shame we'll be losing such a great feat of engineering to nature eventually, but at the same time it's a great example of man's hubris as well. We created something believed to be indestructible, and it was proven to not be the case.

_Fun fact:_ Titanic's larger sister ship, The Britannic, was also sunk 3yrs later but from a mine floating in the ocean left by the Germans in WW1.
Almost everyone was saved because they had enough lifeboats.
So did the lusatania
Yep
And plus they also knew not to repeat the mistakes and failures that occurred on Titanic, not just because they had sufficient lifeboats but they also were very organized when they evacuated the ship
We think it was a mine it doesnt mean it was we dont know
Likely everyone would have been saved except for a rather gruesome error: one lifeboat was launched before the ship's engines had stopped (the captain was hoping to beach the Britannic so it could be saved), and it was sucked into the propellers.😳

And before I even begin to explain why, let me start with this: “You really want to go to all that trouble for a ship?”
Even disregarding the fact that the ship is now in two halves strewn about a half mile debris field, the metal and forging methods were subpar leading to the further destruction of the hull and superstructure as it sank and faced more pressure.
(And if you mention the Costa Concordia, that was done in shallow water to a largely intact ship.)
The chain, while the more feasible of the two, would probably be the less reliable to do so. And it could only be a chain due to the immense pressures facing a rope possibly leading to the disintegration of the rope. And again one faces the degraded hull as it rises out of the water. (And if you think it will work, look up the story of the SS Cayuga, a ship that sank near the Mackinaw straits in Lake Michigan that was the subject of repeated refloating attempts, that also attempted the same method as proposed above.)
Now, if someone was actually crazy enough to do it and has the capital to somehow pull it off, and does so, the problem that comes after though is the logistics.

Even if they could raise the Titanic, I don't think I'd enjoy the ship knowing that it's essentially a large cemetery. RIP.
So right. We should respect the place and leave it as it is. Those exhibitions of china and other things picked up are way enough as "memorabilia" for viewing.
like in submarines, the bodies explode and dissolve in the high pressure, the bodies long swept away
I still don’t get the logic behind that because it’s a ship wreck, that it’s disrespectful when any other wreck it’s not disrespectful by gathering the remains of someone, and giving them a proper burial. I’m pretty sure they would rather be buried next to their families, then at the bottom of the ocean. I’m not disagreeing with the facts it probably is physically impossible but that’s not what these people are saying. So by their logic on 9/11 they shouldn’t have cleaned up ground zero because it’s disrespectful to tamper with a massive grave. It literally make no sense what they are saying.

There are two facts that this video failed to mention or just plain glossed over
01 ) The water tight bulkheads did not go up to the main deck. In fact the water tight bulkheads did not even go up to the same decks. They cut off at different decks. This contributed to the sinking as the water spilled over the bulkheads and moved on to the next section
02 ) Because the ships construction was riveted together this brought up fatigue cracks in the steel.

"Turned into a Museum or Attraction and get a lot of money"
The thought of that saddens me, its like turning a graveyard into a playground.....
I forget if its the station or the museum made from the recycled parts but regardless, its a nice thing. So basically i think it would be okay to do something like that. But as we learned it is impossible anyway.
Well,he said it in a straightforward way,BUT it would be amazing information.About technology, history and more.I don’t see a thing wrong with bringing the Titanic up.I PRAY it can happen!

The same reason they exhume 1000 year old bodies, because they are selfish. The dead should RIP. The living should, leave them alone or at worst put them back, once they have done their research. Not put them in a dam museum.
I agree!!!!!!
Can you even imagine being there when those drones first spotted the Titanic in 1985? That must've been absolutely amazing
Right?? Kind of like discovering America or something .Must’ve been mind blowing….😱
plus it being perfectly upright is kind of amazing
@@1corrsfan LOL did you really just say that the Titanic sank because of a cursed mummy? lololol

@@richardanderson5424 wow so many people asked for your life story its so incredible
I watched the movie with my ex girlfriend, we were both stoned and I gotta say this is the best movie I have ever watched

Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche was a Haitian engineer. He was one of only three passengers of known African ancestry on the ill-fated voyage of RMS Titanic. He put his pregnant French wife and their two daughters onto a lifeboat; they survived, but he did not.
I’ve loved the titanic ever since I could remember. I would watch the movie all the time, read books, watch any and all videos on it. I would love to see the titanic in person but I’m terrified of deep sea
So we know that If people say “this ship is unsinkable” then DONT GO ON IT.
nope that just means you can have their seat in a life boat cause that dumbass will go down thinking that about the ship as it sinks

@@nathan7627 Damn, you must be in coma for the last decades. Costa Concordia was quite the same as the Titanic except for the huge luck sinking near the coast of Isola del Giglio.

Yh but it seems to be a fitting end for the ship and for the people who were on it. It gets to return to nature once again
Parts of it will be gone, there are items, belongings, jewelry, shoes, silverware, coins, and remnants that will be there for a couple hundred years. The metal will corrode and collapse in on itself, and be gone within probably 75 years if the rates they measured of it eating away are correct,
I thought the same.
Does it really matter? Most people can never get to it, there are already plenty of physical piece representations recovered, and the story itself is already a great modern legend that will live on for many generations.
Tears started rolling 😔😭
Why can’t titanic be recovered? Because it’s too weak from sitting at the bottom of the ocean for 100+ years and it’s also a grave. Leave it alone.

I don't understand why they can't use tools, similar to what they grabbed artifacts with, to take apart the ship piece by piece, put the pieces in sealed, pressurized boxes, and lift that way. It would be a long ass job, but the ending result would be worth it. Wouldn't it? Instead of throwing in the towel.

The reason that they can’t bring it up on to land is because its too badly damaged and if they were to bring it from the surface it would just break the seabed is just eating at titanic in times to come there won’t be a titanic at the bottom of the sea

The ship was underwater for 73 years before being discovered. Bacteria was already set in wearing down the ships remaining structures, plus the ship was broken in half in the middle. Even then there was no way to raise a fragile ship that's 2 miles underwater...

Had "GOD" actually designed and built the Titanic, IT WOULD'VE ABSOLUTELY NEVER SUNK! Why? Because a knowledgable individual regarding GOD should already know that unlike fallible, error- prone Humans, GOD is not fallible, imperfect, prone to error or make mistakes, is not partial, a bigot and at least prudent only 100 percent of the time. GOD designed all Humans. However, the current error-prone condition of the Human Being is absolute NOT GOD'S fault, responsibility, liability, choice, decision or anything else remotely relevant to imperfection. The point: GOD doesn't make mistakes! If Humans were perfect the way GOD planned, intended, designed, etc the Human to be in the first place, the Titanic would've never sunk. Humans were NEVER intentionally designed or created on purpose to daily make mistakes, contract various diseases, get sick unnecessarily, age and eventually die.
