    As a new yorker for most of my life I can safely say that alot of drains are always covered by trash( now Im not pointing fingers), im just saying sometimes the whole purpose to prevent flooding is disabled by people throwing trash,and lack of help to clean or initiative.

    When I was a kid in the 80's growing up in the Rockaways, we used to get flooding quite often, especially in the Hammels and Edgemere sections. I think the older american cars were able to withstand driving through flood waters like this. New cars today, with so many sensors and electrical components, and so low to the ground, can break down even by driving through a regular puddle. Once that CPU panel is breached the whole engine goes out of whack and it breaks down. The new EV's with their batteries on the bottom cannot withstand flood water, especially if it's salt water.

    • @jontanneguy4960

    City people, you can’t be barreling though water like that. It’s possible, but don’t outrun your wake. Also cars will float if it’s too deep. There’s so much that should be said to this along with just don’t do it. Water doesn’t compress so well once it gets in your intake and floating cars equal drowning.

    Everyone in this comment section is wrong. It all depends on where the air intake is on your specific car. If the water line is below your air intake you want to proceed very very slowly, if it’s above it and you’ve already entered the water you want to kill the ignition as quick as possible and call for a tow as soon as possible so The cars computer won’t be irreparably damaged. And I’m not forgetting about water getting in the exhaust but that would be the least of the three problems you’d have so….

      Also very disturbing that not a single person has half a brain to turn on hazards when driving past the flood to warn other drivers behind. Only time you find NY drivers using hazards are when double/tripple parking on the road. Some don't even do so 🤦🏽‍♂

      It’s called survival of the fittest for a reason. The more mistakes you make the more possibility you can end your life. Before the storm hit they told people to get prepared and stay home! Obviously the people who didn’t listen already made 1 mistake. And on top of that they didn’t prepare to be on the road in dangerous conditions now that’s 2 mistakes. On top of that they stop on the side of the road cuz they can’t move or see and they don’t have their hazards warning people who might not be able to see them that’s 3 mistakes right there. There’s a lot of people out there who think preparation and precaution don’t make a difference but as you can tell by how many people were stranded on the roads it makes a huge difference.

  • @matthewshultz2495
    @matthewshultz2495 Рік тому

    I'd imagine that NYC isn't much better than Philthydelphia however & regardless of clogged drains there's this is with water flowing correctly once its forced through pipes. Large pipes can only handle so much water at a particular flow, once the large drains flow supercedes that of the smaller drains ,then the smaller ones will not drain until the larger drains pressure is less. Kinda like rush hour traffic & 100 cars trying to immediately enter the highway can't do so in an expedited manner .
