The frozen houses in Ontario took the brunt of the storms as they directly face the Canadian side of Lake Erie.
An icy white blanket covered the entire front of the Fort Erie properties.

Those ice-encased houses looks like a poster for a post-apocalyptic Ice Age movie, rather than a Winter Wonterland scene. So bleak yet surreal.

That's pretty normal for the Great Lakes though? Lake-effect always coats the shore-side houses with dramatic ice.

That's why they are timber. Timber can warp, flex ,contract and expand in freezing temps much better than things like brick and concrete.

This is why the community public or private or any construction company’s or even govt funded companies should and supposed to be building suitable houses that can sustain and withstand hurricanes, earthquakes, heavy blizzard snows, ice ages, even a lil bit of floods and more! This is why quality is always better then quantity and money profits otherwise anything poorly funded, poor quality, not ready for any weather and anyone is prone to any type of weather, now imagine the homelessness people out there, thats even worse for them, this is why homelessness in the some parts of the regions cities that tend and be cold at times or brutal icy temperatures they shouldn’t be homeless, cause they can freeze to death outside.. imagine that just by looking at the houses and judging by the video 😳👀 crazy part about weathers is its unpredictable at some times..

That's frozen sea spray, happens when it's very cold and windy on the shore.

In the chicago area we got some snow, not nearly as much as buffalo though, all we got was a few inches 50mph winds and negative temperatures, still beats being trapped inside an ice castle though
I moved to the states for University and went to school at Northwestern. I was hoping for white Christmases but we never got snow in time which I learned is wind swept cold on the west side of the lakes.. it was always the east side of the lakes that got huge amounts of snow.
I was jealous, but then again I don't drive so.. I just wanted to see, and play in the snow!
I'm a trucker and chicago is one of the worst places to go! So many low bridges. Hope I don't go around there again any time soon.

I guess residents have to always try to have food and supplies on hand during winter. I have always live in Texas and cannot even imagine. We have had a couple of ice and snow events for just a few days, NOTHING like in the Buffalo area, and that minimal amount cripples Central Texas.

Healthcare should have been provided with at least 72 hours of housing in hospitals for personnel to stay. When a blizzard is announced a week prior, that was the the time to prepare. There should have been a ban on roads by Friday. I lived in the NE Canada, my parents prepared us for the worst many times. My heart breaks to know of so many lives lost in cars, who died alone.
People wouldn't even wear a face mask when told it could help prevent the spread of a deadly disease, any driving ban would be met with claims the government is 'interfering with the freedom of Americans' or some such nonsense, even if it is for their own good.
Who's going to pay the bill? 💸

This is nothing unusual, in the 1600's the Thames river, London, was totally frozen and people had a farmers market on it. There are paints about that event. It was like a mini ice-age and was due to volcanic activity.

Meanwhile, on the Pacific Northwest corner of the USA, we have gotten like 6 inches of rain in the past 48 hrs & hurricane force winds on the coast & and ice storm in the Willamette Valley, in Oregon. Friends, it's a terrible mess over here, but am glad it wasn't a GD blizzard from Hell! 🥴

Bizzare. Here in south Florida we had 50 degree temps for highs & that almost left me out luckily we started a fire and kept it 🔥.

The quality of American citizens is amazing.
Apparently USAmerican government is unable to learn from the past winters, is unable to ask nordic countries for advise. Nordic countries can handle large amounts of sow, they keep the power lines intact, they keep their supply chains open, their citizens know how to prepare for this and how to manage this. Yet every year the US is surprised and shocked and doesn't know what to do.

If people were inside they would switch heating on and ice would have melted on windows at least.

I live in my van and I survived this major cold front easily. I just ran my generator and.my heater all night. I planed ahead and got 10 gallons of gas for the generator which gives me well over 100 hrs of power and heat. And I used it sparingly so when the van was 70 degrees I shut it off till it hit 50 thanni turned it on again.

As a Canadian, watching Americans loot their stores during a crisis, is a very disturbing and sickening revelation, of the social State of Affairs in the United States. Living in Toronto Canada, I have to proudly say, that it would appear that Canadians have been able to maintain a more civil social structure. I can’t tell if this is serious or not, but just in case: The ice is on the front ones because those are right up against the Lake Erie shoreline and so got the water spray on them from the lake, which then froze.
