Thank you Harry. As a kid growing up in the 50s and throughout my life, I agree with your assessment of John. He was what he was, real, authentic, rough edges for sure, and honest. Unforgettable lifelong childhood hero of mine!

I’m an old guy now but I grew up watching The Duke and he was every boy’s idol. I liked your Dad’s pictures and part he played in Duke movies. I always liked YOUR parts as you. (And Ben Johnson) always seemed to be doing great riding and other stunts and having fun. Thanks for the Tribute , It’s a Tribute to you too

i was a kid of the 70's and all my family loved the Duke and all his movies. I miss the old Hollywood.
    Today"s Hollywood is really pathetic.

Back around 1968 John Wayne came to visit Knott's Berry Farm where I worked as a 16 years street sweeper and when he climbed aboard the engine of the Calico train and began shaking peoples hands I put mine up and sure enough he grabbed hold with that great big hand and shook it. I will always treasure that moment for the Duke was truly one on all time fav's as an actor. Funny story some 25 or so years later my 8 year old son and I were talking about our fav actors and his was Jean Claude Van Damn and when I told him the Duke was a legend in the movie business my boy replied so what Jean Claude Van Damn could kick John Wayne's butt :-) I had to laugh and told him I'm just glad your granddad, my pop, wasn't around to hear you say that :-) I love to tell that story for I lost my son in an auto accident May 20th 2017 at the age of 31 and one of the memory keepers about him that will always remain with me

John Wayne aka The Duke was and my words on this He still is a American legond now and 100 years from now John Wayne stayed in the top 100 of films for 30 years that is remarkable considering the other big actors
I like Harry Cary Sr and Jr they both were great actors of there time when I think of John Wayne I think of the five last cowboys The Duke, Ben Johnson, Harry Cary Sr and jr and Audie Murphy these men were truelly, American men, real life legonds and to me with all my heart and soul young or old they will always be my heroes thank you and GOD bless you Duke Wayne, Ben Johnson and Harry Cary Sr and Jr and Audie Murphy happy trails my friends

I done a John Wayne voice impressionist for a 78 year old man from Arizona. He asked how much it would cost. I ask if he'd donate to my John Wayne fundraiser page for running in the John Wayne cancer fundraiser race in New Port Beach harbor California may 11th. Priceless

It makes me so angry to see people bash John Wayne. People say he did not fight in WW2. In December 1941 John Wayne was 34 1/2 years old with 4 YOUNG CHILDREN and Married. With a bad back and a bad knee. Not exactly what the U.S. Military was looking for. The Military really wanted 18-22 year old Healthy men who ideally were not married.

I became a copper in 1976 and a month into my service I got attacked in a bar.
When back up showed I had four guys bleeding on the floor two were hospitalized.
My Sgt came in and saw my uniform torn and bloody and said, “patrolman that was some John Wayne shit right there.”
See a man that stood and took it when it was needed was what we were expected to do. “That was some John Wayne shit.” Was high praise back then because we all knew what it meant..

Every once in a while, you run into a "magic crew." You see it in sports teams - the Green Bay Packers under Lombardy, for instance. I've had one or two in Scout, many of them earning Eagle Scout. John Ford had his magic crew and you know who that was...'cuz you were part of it. Love and Respect.

You can add an Oscar for "The Cowboys" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"....That would have made 5 Oscars he should have won.

I think John Wayne was the most underrated actor from Hollywood's Golden Era. His scene in The Shootist with Lauren Bacall is heartbreaking. Thank you "retrotxnc" for posting this wonderful tribute on UA-cam.
