Remember guys, take this with a pinch of salt! There is no ideal correct way to write songs, in fact the way that works for you IS the correct way! However, if you don't know where to start, I hope this video will help! :))
NICE. Great lesson mate!! Just what I needed as I've only been trying to learn guitar since November now but feel like it's time to start trying to put stuff together. No matter how bad I might sound. Haha!!
Great video man I really enjoyed it! Another tip for aspiring song writers. For a bridge section: if you were playing minor chords you can change to major visa versa. This will help contrast when falling back into the chorus ❤
Thanks so much!!! Been really having trouble trying to write music. Can play alot of artists music but have had such difficulty writing my own material. You gave me a great approach to writing. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this.
Much needed info. Honestly I’ve been using pre made drum tracks a Tailoring guitar riffs around that. But I need to get down to doing it properly. Thanks for the great video.
@@musicinsession it is super common but that’s metalcore now a days , I’m just getting in to writing music and getting back to learning guitar, appreciate the video and reply bro, didn’t expect one haha, take care of yourself
Hi Filipe, I recently discovered your channel and I am loving your content, I have one question, when you are writing this riffs, how do you know that the notes from one riff are going to work with the notes of the other riff when layering them at the end, do you try things until it sounds good, are you applying theory? Thanks!
ahh no mate, I am not a very theory kind of guy... well, I am lying, I do play riffs within a certain scale, so then if you find the chords of that scale they always sound good! Or even two riffs completely different but in the same scale won't clash (much). That's a far as I go with theory for music or riff writing! Hope that helps mate!
0:59 i was thinking of Asking Alexandria - I Won't Give in 2:28 made me think of Bring Me The Horizon - Drown (Edit: I scrolled down and noticed others thought the same lol)
@@musicinsession yeah, personally I've broken from the older simplistic metalcore writing and I'm more onto the djenty kind of modern metalcore sound. I get a lot of inspiration from stuff like monuments. I actually just uploaded my guitar practice video of a riff/song I'm working on. I think you'll like it and It'd be cool to hear your opinion on it. There's two videos... both basically the same thing. Also... I just subbed to you today as you have great content, plus you're in London just like me. who knows... Maybe we can team up and make something together. Anywhoo, keep up with the videos.
@@NathanielBTM Sweet dude!! Thanks for follow! I will definitely check your stuff later mate! Been super busy lately hence why haven't even been posting videos! :D
I am Filipe Martins i thought it was the chord progression VS the tab, chord progression wise that would be correct i think, and you used chord notation
This really broke me out of my writer's block, thank you very much!
Thanks for the lovely comment mate! Glad I could help! :)

This was awesome, really brought me back to my roots!! And after having 6 years of writers block this is getting the juices pumping!
So glad to hear that! :)

I’d love a synth breakdown video. As I’ve been struggling working in synths
I've been thinking of goind one actually!! Thanks for the tip mate, I will add it to my list! :D
@@musicinsession yes pls
did u figure it out ? if you did i could use some tips

That's fantastic mate! Glad I could help! 😀😀
That progression in the beginning reminds me of “The Element Of One” by Killswitch Engage. Drop C is the superior tuning for MetalCore.
You're the real deal in terms of knowledge, personality and broadcast/presentation quality.
Thanks mate! Means a lot the support! :D
Based video. The fact you also work full time on top of that makes you a real one.

I'm getting a kse vibe from this song bro. Subbed. Thanks for the vid
My pleasure matey! :)
Me too the first clean riff sounds like The Element of One
Pre-chorus building into chorus is beautiful. Hopefully you make it an entire song and release it
Very Inspired, thank you.
Cheers matey 😃
Excellent work, keep it up and share more. I really enjoyed your video and clarity on the explanation. Thank you so much.
Obrigado por assistires! :)
Really helpful and inspiring video, thank you!

Thank YOU for the support mate!! LOVE Aussieland!! Parkway Drive!!!!
I am Filipe Martins keen for more content 🤙
Ty
You're welcome! :)
What you recording on
2:28 Drown by BMTH is that you?
Could be!! (even though I don't really know BMTH) but it's a very generic progression! :D
That intro sounds similar to d at sea cover of drown by bmth
yeah it's possible! It's a super simple intro! I am sure loads of other bands have the same chord progression! :)
@@musicinsession it is super common but that’s metalcore now a days , I’m just getting in to writing music and getting back to learning guitar, appreciate the video and reply bro, didn’t expect one haha, take care of yourself
Máquina!
NICE!!
Do you have this song on apple
Or Spotify? It’s absolutely killer !!!
Not this song, but look up my band on spotify or youtube Voodoo Diamond! thanks for the positive comment! :)
did you re record when u double track?? specially the lead parts??
yup!
I don't know how to play any instrument. But I do write poems and I know how to sing. How can I start writing songs?

I Filipe,i have one ask,you have any idea for play metalcore with Strotocaster?
Hey mate! Yeah you sure can! Especially if you have humbuckers!🙂
@@musicinsession Thanks much for info ❤
Bro created drown at 2:28
parece portugues a falar ingles , bom video , boas dicas
0:59 i was thinking of Asking Alexandria - I Won't Give in
2:28 made me think of Bring Me The Horizon - Drown
(Edit: I scrolled down and noticed others thought the same lol)
haha a lot of people say that! It's quite possible given those riffs are mega generic and very common in metalcore! :)

What is the program you're using to mix with?

@@musicinsession Thanks bro!
Woe 🙌 that's really cool thank you 🤘❣ 🥳 😇 😂 😎 🍤🍜🥘🌯🥓🥦 It's time for Breakfast 😅 and I'm learning guitar right now sweet thanks Man !
I wish I had a guitar and I wish to know how to play it XD
With this software could you make an a metal song without actually having to play in actual instrument?
It is possible yes! It would probably sound a bit shit though because emulating guitars is really hard, but it is possible yes!
Well explained 👍, btw it‘s an add 9 chord 😉
hehe thanks mate!! My theory is a bit rubbish!! :D
that riff was to the tune of "drown" by bring me the horizon and no one even noticed
A lot of people made that comment! It's a pretty basic riff so I am sure there are a LOT of bands using it! But that was the whole point! :)
"one of the most used progressions is 6, 5, 1, 3. So something like this"... Proceeds to play 8, 5, 0, 3
Yeah I know... thats what happens when you record after a long day of work. It was too late to change after I noticed it. Thanks for watching though 😀
@@musicinsession Haha bro its been over a year, surprised you replied! Haha, keep up the work though dude, love it!
I am Filipe Martins i thought it was the chord progression VS the tab, chord progression wise that would be correct i think, and you used chord notation
care to explain what a 0 chord is? Also 8 is just the 1 an octave up
he is talking about chords in the scale not tabs
Dropped you a sub dude... Great quality videos.... I'll check out your others.
Thanks mate!! :) I am going to start making more videos soon!
u were doing 6-0 at the intro not 6-1, great video tho
Kool video man. If you want to get better at mixing come to Nail the Mix. Its a great community. And you'll learn alot. See u later
Thanks mate! I will check em out!
