one can dream but a whole Metropolis II breakdown/playthrough would be amazing.
Doubt we'll get more than this and already got dance of eternity. I want him to do more of the first listen sessions!
Ughhhhhhhhh yes please, especially Home - first DT song that got me.
@@spacemanOCEthere’s videos on UA-cam about that song clipped from Liquid Drum Theater, on of his instructional home videos.
The channel has already announced that there will be a video of him playing Instrumedley
@@spacemanOCEyep my favorite DT song. It's killer!
Metropolis Pt.2 is one of my favorite albums ever, so happy Mike Portnoy is back with DT.
AWESOME To see mike play this AGAIN !!!! A MASTERPIECE of an Album, And Such an INCREDIBLE Drummer... THANK YOU GUYS !!!
fun fact: he plays something different in each live version
and we all love it.
It's the outro, the drummer is finally free to play whatever come to his mind
Basically he improvise.....
Yeah, its called improvisation. Give it a try kopykats
Wow thats a new information
Open your eyes, Nicolas!!!
IMO, the best drum outro ever for an album.
Octavarium has entered the chat.
@@deadstar44octavarium has the best outro. Not specifically for the drums.
I wholeheartedly agree. I remember thinking how perfect it was to conclude a phenomenal album the first time I heard it.
Scenes from a Memory is still my favorite DT album and I still love it just as much today as I did the day it came out.
without doubt :)
Drumeo knows their audience. 🙏
His drum outro on Finally Free from the Scenes From New York DVD was absolutely mind-blowing to me back in the day. It’s killer.
Yeah I remember being blown away from that section on the DVD. It came to mind while watching this video. Been more than a decade that I haven't seen that DVD performance (Metropolis part 2 live) and I no longer have the DVD. Would like to rewatch.
@@endlessorbaggins8223There's a remastered 4k version now up on YT. You must watch it. 🤘🏻
I was at that show - still one of the best performances I’ve ever seen live.
This is the song that made me and I think so many others fell in love with Mike's drumming and the fact that he still has it after so many years is crazy to me. Blessed to have Portnoy in this lifetime!
The version from "Live Scenes" is freaking ridiculous. The fact that the show goes another almost 2 hours after this ending is insane.
Stop the world! New Mike Portnoy episode on Drumeo!
The most melodic rack and floor toms in Heavy Metal. Absolutely amazing sound!
Amazing sound for sure but don't discount brann dailor like that!
Among the many things I love about Mike Portnoy, the way his kit sounds has always been right up there for me. Even though it has changed and evolved over the years, his ear for picking cymbal sounds and drum tunings that sound incredible and really compliment each other was a huge influence on me.
Gavin Harrison too
It's not finally free, it's just the end of finally free. Fantastic end.
Axchtually
Remember that is not the end
But only a transition
Well done @@andre2221
...thanks but we can read...
@@andre2221... to The Glass Prison.
Mike Portnoy out here reminding everyone he still gangsta
Gavin Harrison and MP remind me to not crank smaller toms- they pop more with a looser tension. Classic playing. One of those things that makes people want to play the drums. That's why MP is a legend.
How i love his signature fills !!! the living LEGEND
I find that his playing has gained in feeling and depth since he left DT.
Less demonstrative but more presence.
Calm power and Subtleness
Love it !
What he did with Transatlantic and Flying Colors are awesome too!
He's older now
"Put it in front of me. I'll hit it." -- Mike Portnoy, probably.
Wow! I've never listened to Dream Theater before, but seeing these videos of Mike's drumming makes me want to listen to more.
Thank you Mike and Drumeo!
You won’t regret listening to them. Fantastic music from them
Do it! It's a great journey, for sure. Even the records with Mike Mangini on drums instead of Portnoy have some great moments.
Metropolis Pt.1 was my gateway into their awesomeness.
Scenes from a memory, Images & Words, or Six Degrees are top albums if you’re a prog guy. Or if you’re a metal head, Train of Thought.
@@resoundingsource6595 Alas, I'm a simple rock chick. I appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.
The king is where he should always be, on his throne. What a beast
The Finaly Free on Cenes from New York DVD... My Favor Drum Solo of all time ! ❤
Wonder if lars can play this drum kit.
Video 118 of commenting until Drumeo makes a "Best Rudimental Drummer of the Year" award category
I Want You (She's so heavy) by DT
Is "included" in Sacrified Sons
Pull Me Under is actually inspired by IWant You (She’s So Heavy), the same random snip in the tape to end it was the reason the song stops abruptly during the outro. Source: Mike Portnoy in Drumeo’s Pull Me Under video.
Portnoy has always been the soul of this band
I mean, yeah, he was the main songwriter and did the orchestration for almost everything until his departure. Glad he's back, I wonder how it went learning all the songs from when he was gone. I'd love to hear him talk about the challenges of learning someone else's parts for his own band.
@@justinerb6975 hopefully they arent playing any of that garbage live.
Seeing him play this again brings a smile to my face!
The sound he achieves from his chinas, max stax, bells, splashes and set in general is above all others. Portnoy is the best drummer in my world
Ironically, MP is finally not free anymore. The man finally has a job.
this is one Mike Mangini did horrendously wrong on the scenes tour a couple of years ago in my country. he did some polyrithm thing that of course was impressive, but sounded like ass. it was a sore thumb on an espectacular night. props to him for being able to do something so complex, but being able to do a thing doesn't mean it's better suited for a song. and this comes from a prog rock/metal fan of all places.
I totally agree. I'll just add that he did the same thing even back in 2014, during the "Along for the Ride" tour, when they played some songs from the "Scenes" every show, including "Finally Free". When I first heard it at a concert back then, I was absolutely sure that he had just made a mistake - until I heard the same s**t on the "Breaking the Fourth Wall" DVD.
And there it is. The Portnoy fanboy bashing of Mangini begins. You people need to get a life.
@@crusher0427and there it Is the mangini fanboy who's mad cuz he was replaced, we all know mike mangini was good but he's no mike portnoy
@@B00STICLESLOL!!! He blows Portnoy out of the water, but you keep thinking your hero is everything. Don't forget how many bands he's left in his wake...
@@crusher0427 If Mangini really was such an incredible musician who would "blows Portnoy out of the water", then he would still be in the band.
It is also important to note how many bands Portnoy created, i.e. how many great musicians wanted to work with him after he left DT. As for Mangini, it's been 8 months and I don't see him being hired by any band. Maybe he just doesn't want it and wants to be just a drum teacher and play with friends in small clubs. But then it means that he has significantly less creative energy than Portnoy and DT did the right thing to get rid of him.
1:11 wtf lol
Damn.... he makes it look so easy.
That snare sound !!
WOW one of my favorite songs. So glad you guys got this recorded
Metropolis Part 2 is one of my favorite albums and for whatever reason I always listen to the entire album at least once on long road trips. An amazing ending for an amazing album.
Singkat padat dan berisi 😅 ini cuplikan video dari drumeo yang aku cari, terima kasih drumeo🙏🇲🇨
fun fact: Portnoy is not even a human being
Согласна!)) Потрясающая работа.
Вдохновения и сил Майку, чтобы и дальше радовал нас изумительной музыкой. ❤
Great timing. I was just watching the whole MP interview/playthrough yesterday. My tickets are ready for MP and DT in December! Let's gooooo!
The best drum outro mankind ever seen...
❤awesome!!!❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Anyone know what china that is on his far right? I wish Drumeo would list out their kit configurations in these videos...
El Gran Mike Portnoy... Que Bueno Que Volviste!!!
🤘🏻👹🤘🏻🎶🎼🎸
AWESOME then, AWESOME now~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha. Thats easy. I will go do that right now and come back here to comment and tell you when I nailed it.
Dopo aver sentito il pezzo da Mangini, sentirlo suonare così è avvilente
Finally! another video of Mike
I bet he would be an excellent jazz drummer.
I'd love to see and hear him jazz. 🙂
Ohh, you were holding out on a few more Portnoy videos! Means they're still a chance we get Instrumedley 🎉
The funny thing is I heard him talk about train wrecking it from time to time, the solo part. When I seen them play it many years ago, in Detroit on the Train of Thought Tour, he played it safe for the most part, didn't do much flashy stuff. I got so excited when the part came and not much happened bummed me a tiny bit. But he delivered the whole freaking show anyways! Still Amazing AF!
Waiting to see Danny Carey in this channel
🥱🥱🥱
"Open your eyes, Nicholas".
Would be great if the songs were on drumeo...
He needs to hit the gym ASAP... or he won't be able to tour any time soon.
Wouldn't it be a treat if the video was him doing a Non-Portnoy DT song?
The drummer is finally free to do what he wants!!
Get the man a VB!
the Beatles are not far...
Fastest like of my life
we likes to cream jeans
I just took a quick trip thru the darkness of the past only to allow the drums to flow me thru to the other side where I stand now, knowing all is great cause it’s was a life experiencing ride ……. Time to share ❤️❤️
The song never dies, just the singers……
My favorite DT song and album... Peak!
Is this the 22" HH Rock Ride or another model?
I purchased a 22" HH Rock Ride because I fell in love with its sound on Octavarium.
To this day.....this is one of the finest sounding Rides that are available.
Anyhow....I'm not sure that this is the same cymbal here, is it?
Nothing against MM, he's a fantastic drummer (you cannot be in DT and be a mug), but it's SO good to have MP back where he belongs....
Nope!
Don't care what you all say, but in my opinion, this is the worst track on the worst album by my Favourite band!
(well, they were until 2023 anyway!)
🤔
Fun fact:
Portnoy was continuously embarrassed by what Joey Jordison could play
Dream Theater's new album should be Metropolis3
Love the end chops of finally free….
Why only the ending :(
He's the Keith Moon of the 21st century. Constantly playing way to much.
Happy ending 🤤
I think Portnoy is overrated. Theres so many more drummers out there that are waaaaay better than Portnoy and never get seen or discussed. I’ve had this opinion literally since Metropolis dropped when I was a kid. That being said, the live version of this song for their Scenes From A Memory live dvd has one of the illest drum sections to any song I’ve ever heard. And it immediately made me hedge my bet with Mike. But watching that live dvd, and the ending of Finally Free starts and Portnoy just goes HAM on his kit, while staying in the rhythm pocket and not veering off, it’s one of the best drum performances I’ve ever seen in my life. Gave me a new appreciation for his abilities. It’s one thing to do a balls to the wall drum solo by yourself, with no rules and no metronome, but it’s another to do so many complicated drum runs while staying perfectly on beat. That dvd, that song, and that performance made me change my mind a little bit on Mike. Absolutely legendary song…
Thats great and all... but could Mike please do another Nickelback Song?
I will always remember when Mangini fails in Santiago 2019. This outro was so bad :(
That ending 🎉
I wanna MANGINI back, or disband/retire, old boy. 🤣
This unlocked a core memory of mine
If Mozart had a drummer like Mike Portnoy they would both be crucified.
My fantasy was to be Mike Portnoy…
I ended up at 40 being me … heh …. Destiny is a horrible endeavor… good bye life
Watching MP play in isolation, it is striking how much he is kickass branch off the Neil Peart tree. The music is stylistically different for sure, but the attack and the aproach to composition and fills are so similar. Really saw that in his fills in Pneuma.
Most Dream Theater songs have a proportionally large middle section. 😂
The video of him playing Instrumendley is still happening?
Half second delay between video and video is terrible while watching drums
If this was Arrowhead....they would have nerfed his drums #ChaosdiversFTW
Por onde anda o Chad Smith? 🤔😘🇵🇹
I see Mike Portnoy I click
I have watched the drum cam of this song on the SFAM-DVD so often. And I am not even a drummer.
Finally a song he knows.
Ahh…finally no more waiting for mangini to lose where 1 is….the most drum cringe moments ever.
the end of Finally Free is just a backing track for drum solo time 😂
Has Drumeo just locked Mike in the basement?
God I missed that!!! Thank you....
What a legend!
Já tô com a barriga igual a dele. Tenho chances!
dude gives him a track with no real drums lol. Now the artist and myself wish they recorded real instruments on that
pomimo wielkiego szacunku nie wiesz co to polirytmia
Mike portnoy gone in drumeo to practice there songs😂😂
I have always thought this riff from the outro is a homage to beatle’s I want you
The drum kit smoke a cigarrete after that.
Where the heck is the intro? We know Mike is good at drum barrage there is no point in shorts just about that
I hope he can drop 40 lbs for endurance purposes.
hes so fucking good
Get this guy a real drum kit, you got him on the beginner set.
