Tiredness isn't counted as a care mistake, thankfully. It just reduces happiness and discipline, so it's still always worth avoiding! And Nanimon is when any Rookie has empty happiness and empty discipline gauges, and then you scold one last time! I ended up looking into it when I did my first ever 100% run. I'm thirty years old, and I still play through this game roughly twice a year, so it's always good seeing other people mention how much harder it was as a kid, so I know it wasn't just me!
True, and to be more specific, exactly 3 things count as care mistakes in this game: not feeding your Digimon when it's hungry, letting it poop on the ground, and not letting it sleep when it's time for it to sleep. While many people think things like letting your Digimon get tired, sick or injured, losing a life, and even feeding your Digimon when it's not hungry also are care mistakes, none of them actually are according to information found online from datamining the game's code. These other "false care mistakes" are more due to assumptions people make about this game due to much of the information in-game not being given to you directly, and with people trying to play the game blind instead of using a guide to help (and a guide can help a LOT), this causes people to guess about certain aspects because they can't figure them out for sure. Combine this with the fact that this game was released before the internet was widely accessible to most people, and there was a LOT of speculation on what certain game mechanics did, and even the 3 "top secret" Digimon (those being MegaSeadramon, HerculesKabuterimon, and Phoenixmon) that the guidebook didn't provide information on what their exact requirements were if you wanted to obtain them, and there are old videos here on UA-cam that show how to get these 3 Digimon, but the information provided on them is wrong. Also, to add onto the original point on tiredness, after a few hours of training in the gym, it will eventually result in your Digimon only getting one point in each stat they are raising per training session, which can make it more difficult to meet the necessary stat requirements to digivolve to ultimate level Digimon if you don't manage it well enough
Worst part about my video is I did look up a lot of information before I did the recording, and it just turns out (I didn't know until I made this video) that the information was wrong!! But like you said, when I first played it I had no Internet access, and the written guide they released also had wrong information in it!! Then it spreads like wildfire :/
The Centarumon game it's base on a Japanese game where childs draw lines in the floor and kids stand on each line, every time you reach a point where a line connects with another perpendicular you have to take that line until it crosses another forward line, you can never move back to the beginning you must always move forwards. Centarumon it's punishing you for not playing the game properly with the shooting. And there is a small draw of how this particular pattern of the game would look like, so you can follow what you have to do. Another thing in the Mojyamon that you recruit is always the last one you finish the trades with and the other always stay there to do trades, so it's always common to do the farming one for money first and then choose the one that you think is less useful for the other trades as second, so the less useful goes to the city. Also fun fact Mugendramon (Machinedramon in Japanese which i mention because in japanese the Infinity is call Mugen which means that in the original language it's name it's a nod to mount Infinity) it's chimera, made out of part of different Mechanic DIgimons: Andromon(lower part of the body), Megadramon(Left Arm), Metal Greymon(Right Arm), MetalMamemon(Canons) and the one that isn't in the game MetalTyranomon(Upper body and head).
Wow that is some amazing information!! Thank you so much :D I didn't know... almost any of that. BUT, I did know some of the Machinedramon lore, mainly that he was made from pieces of other Digimon. The Metal Greymon arm being the most telling one imo! I was almost certain the Moyjamon recruit depended on who's trades you finished last, but I couldn't remember if you can still trade with the other ones or not, so I didn't end up risking it. But I did come to a realisation earlier today that I've never done a 100PP run, so I think I'll finish up my Next Order video (In a month's time or so...) and do a 100PP run and see how long it takes me! Again, thank you so much for the info man, it's a really cool franchise and I sadly know almost nothing about it!
The only other Digimon games that play like that PS1 game are Digimon World Redigitize and Digimon World Next Order. Which is a huge shame, because I remember as a kid insisting on my family, whenever I had the opportunity to get a new game that I wanted a new Digimon World game, but Bandai/Namco kept using the Digimon World name to push all sorts of weird games that had nothing to do with each other, like for example Digimon World 2 for the PS1 is basically a dungeon crawler, and I imagine lots of other kids were hugely disappointed at getting that game thinking it was an actual sequel to the first PS1 game, but when they actually play it they see that it was basically another type of game, which by all means World 2 wasn't a bad game per say, but a more appropriate name should have been Digimon Dungeon or Digimon Underground or something, but Bandai/Namco tricked a bunch of people using the Digimon World game, to the point that eventually people stopped buying the Digimon World games, and when Digimon World ReDigitize actually came out, people didn't even know it existed since it stayed as a Japan exclusive game, and sales for Digimon games were somewhat low then, which is why they probably thought that the game wouldn't have done well in the west but they would've been wrong, because if I could've gotten my hands on ReDigitize for my 3DS, I would have played that game pretty much in all my freetime when I was in College and stuff since it would have been on a portable handheld, but alas Bandai/Namco made bad decisions, and at least we eventually got Digimon World Next Order which is an OK game.
I believe another comment also talked about Re:Digitize, assuming that's the psp/3ds game they were talking about! A few other comments have mentioned Next Order, to the point I will pick it up and give it a try! It's really weird that they kept using the World name, I have mentioned this in other replies but they had other titles around that time (Digimon Rumble Arena is my go to example), so they were clearly happy enough to use other names. I don't know when Pokemon first released a Mystery Dungeon, the earliest one I remember was on the DS, so I can't even argue that they thought a Digimon version could make an exciting new title. But what I actually find the most interesting, is every has different opinions on which one was best, but it's nice to see everyone just talking about their favorites without insulting anyone elses choice! Tbf I imagine most people like myself are in the mid-late twenties, possibly thirties! Really awesome fandom!
@@don_holiday I like that we received Digimon World Next order in the west, and the reason why I called it an "OK game", is because they force you to train 2 Digimon at the same time, and at first while the idea might seem novel and interesting, it just makes the virtual pet part twice as tedious, and even the battles can just get messy, as enemies usually appear in groups, and if your Digimon are not on the same evolution level, which can happen more than you would think, due to one of them dying sooner than the other, then you might experience insane levels of babysitting, due to the AI that controls your mons not being really smart, and then on top of that having to look after the younger Digimon. Next Order also focuses more on the Town building aspect, in the sense that you have to loot materials around the map, in order to provide the Digimon builders guild, with a means to upgrade the facilities or just flat out create new buildings. Other than these two things that I mentioned the feel is similar to the PS1 game but just more polished and with a lot of quality of life features, such as being able to tell what conditions you need for certain evolutions in game, and not really requiring a guide as once you find some specific villagers, you can even lock some specific evolutions, or even fuse your Digimon with the DNA of the recruited mons in the village, where if you work it correctly you can even have two fusions following you around as partners.
Well I've picked it up so I'll be playing through it slowly :D It's really interesting though because I was talking to my brother about Digimon World and we were tempted to actually build a game following a similar design, so we got talking about how we could expand/improve on DW1's systems. The first thing we talked about was the ability to train more than one pet, but eventually we decided it wouldn't be a good idea, you loose the attachment to your pet and if you don't streamline the training systems you just get a lot more of the tedious side of the game. But on the other hand, if you do streamline the systems, then it's not as rewarding reaching the goal. In the end we couldn't find a solution and decided DW1 struck the balance basically perfectly. Then the town building is just a whole different level of brilliance, I just think it could've expanded more and we could've had less restaurant and shop workers haha!
In case no one has mentioned it "Coelamon" is pronounced "See-lah-mon" based on Coelacanths. I definitely pronounced this as "Koh-eh-lah-mon" when I was a kid though! Great video, absolute gem of a game.
Thanks man!! You are the first to mention it! But there is now a second comment mentioning it too! And now I'm a bit embarrassed since it should've been kinda obvious in hindsight :D
@@matthewkuscienko4616 I wouldn't call the 4kids dub the "official pronunciation". It's a digimon based on a Coelacanth, the Japanese name for it is シーラモン (Shīramon) based on the Japanese word for Coelacanth シーラカンス (Shīrakansu). Being based on a Coelacanth and the Japanese name being Shīramon there's no sense to calling it Co-el-a-mon
@S4ltyTar0 ...................And yet that's what it's still said as, even in the more recent series, from what I've been told. Also, 4Kids wasn't behind the dubbing of Digimon, as I recall, at least not originally
I've been playing a lot of Cyber Sleuth lately, not quite the same experience but in my opinion, there are so many dud Digimon games out there, and it's been the most fun I've had out of a lot of the new age games I've tried. Digimon World will always have such a special place in my heart. I never had a Play Station as a kid, but when I went up the road to spend the night/weekend with my two older friends they had one, so I got to try it there and it was instantly captivating despite not understanding how ANYTHING worked. The number of times I got Numemon as a kid always made me mad lol. But as an adult with guides, it makes this gem of a Digimon game way more rewarding. I never gave the following titles too much of a chance, mostly due to them not following this same formula. (World 2 onwards)
I have heard some very good things about Cyber Sleuth, it's the one that's most recommended to me, but I keep forgetting to check it out! I think the only 2 I've tried are Digimon World and another PS1 game called Rumble Arena or something like that? That was another really fun game haha! Maybe I'll have to revisit that one next!!
Glad people are keeping this game alive. I remember getting a copied version of Digimon World from a market at the seaside in the early 00s and I was beaming just looking at the artwork on the way home. Although, because it was a copy, it was entirely in black and white! So my memories are literally black and white like some old TV when I think about this game.
I remembered back in 2000,me and my elementary school friend very obsessed about digimon world,we always talk about digivolve or how to recruit digimon, and because of this game we bought the digivice too even it's quite expensive at that time, for me digimon world 1 and suikoden 2 is the best rpg in ps1
I tried so hard to get some of my friends into it, but they all took one look and decided not to try it, even when I offered them the disk! Gotta admit though, I've never heard of the Suikoden series before now!
I never finished it as a kid, I found it too hard if I'm being honest haha! But I've still got the itch right now, so I guess I'm going for my 5th completion over the next few days! :D
One million percent agreed on your opinion of Megadramon. It's always been one of my favourites, but cemented itself into the top spot by being the one I finally beat this game with for the first time: I was raising a Seadramon when I stumbled across the hidden Airdramon evolution by complete accident, only to then immediately evolve into Megadramon while I tried to process what just happened. Memorable moments like that, and the many ways this game is still surprising people even today, makes all those childhood Numemons worth it.
My next playthrough I will go for 100pp and I will get my Megadramon. I have never successfully gotten him before! I don't even know what Tech they can use, but they just look amazing. I spent ages looking them up for my last playthrough, so I'm almost certain they can use Ice Statue, and if that's the case, well it's GG! (But yeah, screw those hundreds of childhood Numemons - most of mine went to the void since I just reset if I got him).
Great video, I adore this game and could happily listen to people yap about it for hours. one of those games i replay every year or two and know to an absurd level of detail, but it still amazes me that I occasionally learn new things about it after all this time. geta92 has some videos of obscure game mechanics and glitches that are worth checking out, theres also a couple people that do speedruns. thats about the entirety of the content on youtube related to this game, so its nice to see a video like this pop up every now and then btw Coelamon's name comes from coelacanth if you wanna look up how to pronounce it, took me a long time to figure that one out lol
I replay this game every year or two as well haha, I've tried introducing lots of people to it as well, but I think only one person actually gave it a fair shot! I've seen some secret evolutions, but this is one of those games where you have no idea how legitimate the information you're being told is xDD but I will definitely check out geta92!!! Thank you very much for the comment :) really appreciate the feedback!!!!
"Achtually" V-Pet devices such as the original Digital Monster that Mameo has in-universe are almost always called Docks, as Digivices refers more specifically to the devices the anime protagonists use, tho theyre sometimes interchangeable, like the digivice IC and the vital bracelet, which are both digivices and docks
(Not really) fun fact about this game : I'm french, so I played the french version when I was a child. Of course, like a lot of people, I loved it but didn't understand everything. But the french version not only had a really bad translation, with text lines overlaping each other and false information given by some digimon, this bad translation provoked a massive glitch : to enter Ogremon's lair you have to talk to an agumon guarding the entrance, then beat him. In the french version, he had no dialogue. He just stayed there, not saying anything, not starting a battle, not moving. Without completing this zone, you can't access 25 points of prosperity and the factory. So a 100% completion was impossible, learning machine type attacks was only possible by brain training and on some bosses of mt. infinity, and a huge part of the lore, told by andromon, was inaccessible (not like my younger self had any real interest in that). All of this because a textbox was accidently removed. And in a way it's a really "fun" way to see how a minor mistake can have huge consequences.
I've just uploaded some footage of a French game called Dofus, so I assume this comment was on those videos haha! I've heard about the Ogremon glitch before, but i never realized how much PP was locked being him! But now that I think about it, no Ogremon means no shellmon, which means no Vademon and I think it also means Grey Lords mansion is never finishable? I remember when I was looking for a rom of this game there was a spanish version floating around, but I believe that contained similar bugs!
That was a bug with all PAL versions. And the German one was also badly translated. Bandai is impressively consistent on their bad treatment of the franchise. I imagine the meetings to go like this: Dev: So what's the budget? Bandai: *Reaches in their pocket* *Pulls out a rubber band, a candy wrapper and 3 random small coins from different countries* Dev: So It's a Digimon project...
idk if anyone already said this, but for centarumon's minigame you just have to turn any time there is a left or right turn in the path and not turn back at any point. as far as i can tell there isn't a way to know which path will be the correct one from the start, but if you do this he will never shoot you, and if you reach the end and actually go up to the x, it just starts over so you can just keep doing it until you get to the end (and get a bunch of items in the process)
No one has said that yet, so thank you!! I don't know how true this is, but I've heard the O door completely depends on the players' first movement after entering the map!
To answer your question about Jijimon, he actually is a Digimon that appears in the series outside of just this game, and he's even a mega level Digimon, too. He's just passive in this game because of how old Jijimon is supposed to be. Also, he does eventually appear in the anime, specifically during Tamers (the third season), in whifh the group meets him and a Babamon that he's seemingly married to after they go to the digital world for the first time; apparently, these 2 elderly Digimon like to fight
It took me until yesterday to realize that Megadramon is also a mega digimon, so we actually had already 2 mega digimon in Digimon World (I'm saying at least Incase there's another one I'm forgetting - and cause saberleomon statue I guess). Part of me really wants to go back and try watch the anime again, I know i saw some of it as a kid!! Problem is, I've tried rewatching Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and i found them too hard to watch since they are just too kid friendly :/
Ah yeah woops, I meant Machinedramon! They knew what they were doing calling an Ulimate digimon Megadramon... Atleast we don't have a giga level digimon!
27:35 What I did, and I think it is how you're supposed to do it, when you get the option to change lanes, do so. I never remember where to start, but once you get on the right path changing lanes when the option comes up, you will not get hit again.
There's ALOT of special evolutions. In addition to the ones you mentioned. any baby digimon has a chance to evolve into kunemon if they sleep in kunemon's bed. Megadramon can also death evolve to skullgreymon(though normal greymon cannot) Whamon and shellmon can both evolve into Coelamon if you praise them when they're 200 hours old Seadramon and birdramon can evolve into airdramon if they sleep with max happiness, discipline, and 0 tiredness Vegimon can evolve into ninjamon if you win 30 battles Nanimon is by scolding any rookie when both their happiness and discipline are at zero drimogemon can evolve into monochromon is it has 500 def Cockatrimon and birdramon can evolve into phoenixmon after they die Mamemon can evolve into either metalmamemon or giromon if you bring him to the guardromon in factorial town and get him remodeled
Wow that's a lot more than I knew of actually! I had a rough idea about some of them, like Birdramon into Phoenixmon! I didn't know Cockatrimon could though! Strange that it's a baby Digimon into Kunemon though, I thought it'd be in-training! And I also find it very strange when Digimon can digivolve into another Digimon in the same stage as them!
A few quick corrections: *You need 50 battles and maximum discipline to have Vegimon become Ninjamon *Birdramon can't become Phoenixmon by losing a life, only Kokatorimon can *3 of the 4 possible death digivolutions that lead to your Digimon becoming Phoenixmon, Bakemon or SkullGreymon respectively, only have a 10% chance of happening each. For the last one, Devimon, there's a 50% chance of success, but you also need 50% or lower discipline (the blue face, not the yellow one) to achieve this -- Devimon is also the only one of these four that can only be obtained this way
I tried to find online Birdramon digivoling into Phoenixmon through dying, and I couldn't! So I think you're probably right! Can you save state your digimon's death to try get that 10% roll, 'cause I don't mind doing a bit of a cheat run to test out some cool Ultimates! XD
Just a small correction. The protagonist isn't named "Mameo". That's the nickname Luche gives him in Digimon World: Next Order because of the Mamemon logo in his beanie cap. Also you're right, Jijimon debuted in Digimon World.
As a reminder to all Digimon fans, NUMEMON is not poop or slime they are SLUGS! 😎👍 Just gotta remind people since most of the hate comes that misconception 😢
I loved this game as a kid but also never got far. I gave it another shot a few years ago. Unfortunately I stumbled across a game breaking bug that totalöly destroys the PAL/EU versions, where you can noit proceed during one point of Ogremons quest. And well... behind Ogremons quest there are just 1 whole region and like 20% of all recruitable digimon locked behind. So if you manage to try the game, make sure you get the NTSC (US) Version ;)
Yeah that bug is a menace! I'm fairly certain my pal version did not have it, but from what I'm hearing that can't be true... Maybe I never got that far as a kid XD
@don_holiday haha :D did you use an emulator for your current playthrough then? So that you did not have the bug? Btw. You might want to try Digimon World: Next order. It was released I think last year and gameplay wise its heavily inspired by the original digimon world. So the tamagotchi stuff, the recruiting of the Digimon to build the City and so on. It's a bit easier but still highly complex in my opinion. :D
@@Maurriss I am currently streaming a playthrough of Next Order :) First time playing it! Should be live again tomorrow if I get time! But yes, I used an emulator! I can't remember the name of it though, Duck something I think? I also don't remember what ROM I'm using though haha, for all I know this is a US ROM!
Thank you :) If I use other people's content I always try my best to be respectful about it! But I will say, that moment was so unfortunate! He was about to go finish the game with Megadramon, and he just dies right as he goes to enter infinity mountain XD
3:46 Digimon is actually related to Tamagotchi if I remember correctly. I believe Agumon was one, not 100% positive, but I am certain about Nanimon being a crossover from Tamagotchi to Digimon. Nanimon even drops/gives you a Tamagotchi when you fight him in the game, an item called "Keychain"
I've never actually found all the Nanimon spots before, but I always grab the first Keychain just after beating the Meteor! I have actually seen some of the new v-pet stuff they're releasing and I'm really tempted to try get one... I never had a Tamagotchi growing up!
@don_holiday I think there's even lore that Nanimon "escaped his world and ended up in the Digital World", which is interesting, his world being Tamagotchi
@@don_holidayThere are 5 total spots were you can encounter Nanimon: *Ogremon's fortress, in the room you fight him a second time *The sewer in Factorial Town, after you recruit Numemon *The spot where you fight Meteormon in the speedy time zone of Ancient Dino Region, as you mentioned *The cave you find the stone tablet of the Leomon tribe in Drill Tunnel *In Toy Mansion, after beating Warumonzaemon You get a dimensional keychain the first and fifth time you encounter him, each one expanding your inventory space by 10 items, which allows you to carry 30 items altogether. Nanimon will also join the city after you talk to him the fifth time and get keychain #2, you can find him in the item bank, but I don't know if you can talk/interact with him, and he only gives the town 1 prosperity point (despite being a champion, which normally give 2 points), just like fellow filth champions Numemon and Sukamon; I also don't think he actually does anything in the city after being recruited
I think the only one I've never found it Toy Mansion, because I don't think I've ever actually finished the Toy Town story line! If I remember right after the first spot, it randoms which one he'll show up at right? I always assumed he joined the city though, but I never knew the filth digimon only gave 1pp!
@don_holliday It's been a long time since I played, so the Sewer in Factorial Town was the only one I remembered, but I looked it up, he shows up in: Meteormon's lair (Ancient Speedy Region), after recruiting Tyrannomon, Ogremon's Fortress, after beating Ogremon 3 times, WaruMonzaemon's room (Toy Mansion), after recruiting Monzaemon, Sewer (Factorial Town), after recruiting Numemon, Andromon and Giromon, and Leomon's Cave, after finishing Leomon's quest. He does join and I believe sits behind the Bank counter staring at a wall, next to Agumon. I think he gives the 1 PP like the other Filth as well haha.
Having a sweat bubble pop up is not a care mistake. IN that regard the game is very consistent. If you take care of it everything is fine. But if you don't let it rest it can become a care mistake. If I recall correctly the buble starts showing at 80 tiredness and only reaching 100 and doing things at 100 is a care mistake.
Just wanna say I love your profile pic Luci! I'm a little bit disappointed in myself for not doing more research on the care mistakes, I tried to cover most of the game from memory, but I looked up a lot of stuff to try get as perfect a run as possible. But there's so much wrong information out there and I just spread it!!! Shame on me
I really loved watching people play this game when I was younger and it is very nostalgic to hear about it again, and also what u think of the Digimon world new order game?
I'm too nervous to try it haha, it looks like the closest thing to the original, but something about the gameplay just lacking in soul? If that makes any sense...
Makes total sense. Bang on, it’s a soulless generic game. I know it’s subjective, but man. It’s not the follow up people say it is. DW1 is just an artifact of its time, its energy won’t be recaptured
I completely agree! The only thing I can see working is a remaster, I know there are some solo devs out there working on stuff like this, so fingers crossed! I also think you could add more starting digimon and maybe some extra evolution paths in (sticking with ultimate being the highest) and it shouldn't ruin the game!
You, and the other comments have sold me on trying it. I'll pick it up sometime soon and I'll record a playthough of it! There's no harm after all, I'll still revisit the first one every year or two anyways haha
Jijimon wasn't created just for Digimon World 1. Jijimon was created for one of the tamagotchi-like games a few years before Digimon World was created.
Oooh that's cool! I've never actually had a tampagochi but I kinda want to get one of those Digimon V-Pet things, might wait for the Monster Hunter ones though!
And mine!!! I feel like I somewhat ruined it for myself making this video, as now I know all the secrets, but I've still never done a 100 prosperity run, so plenty of new things to do!
@@don_holiday I would be fine with a remixed option and classic option. To alter some elements like forcing certain digimon to spawn if you meet X requirements. Or reworking the shop minigame. Because if it is remade RNG manipulation to make the game more palatable won't be an option. Especially when it comes to learning techniques.
iirc after the grey lord mansion, you can find that the ice sanctuary has access to mt infinty, and some other places after that, you keep finding machinedramon over and over but I cant remember how many times or on which order
I actually didn't know about all of that, I've only ever found him in Grey Lord's Mansion! I wish Digimon World had a proper post game though, apparently something called the Vice mod adds some!
@@don_holiday its basically a post game content, but its been like 25 years since I played so I dont remember the details. I just remember I kept training my digimon to get stronger and registering them to play against my friend's digimons, and sometimes I ventured to explore more and discover more mysteries like getting Piximon or finding beetleland trying to fish Seadramon, etc. It was the first game I owned for PS1 so I dedicated a lot of time to that game :P
Getting injured, sick or dying in battle is also not a care mistake. And for clarification: - The care mistake for not feeding only registers if the "hungry" bubble dissapears. - The care mistake for not sleeping only registers if the "sleepy" (those zzz) bubble dissapears.
Oh wow, that actually changes things quite a lot. The game is way more forgiving than I thought!! It almost seems quite difficult to get a care mistake now! Thanks for the clarification :)
@don_holiday yes I played it in Japanese on the psp years ago before the fan translation came out lol. It's alot like world 1 at least gameplay wise. You should definitely check it out though maybe the 3ds version because it's supposed to have extra stuff If I am remembering correctly.
I think I'm in the minority in thinking that this game is better enjoyed without understanding the digivolution mechanics outside of what the game gives you and by ignoring the collecting part of it. If you think of it as a tamagotchi the videogame, the game becomes much more enjoyable.
I mostly agree with you, because my first complaint when I played Next Order last night was being able to immediately being able to see what Rookies I could digivolve into and how. But I think for me, I've played DW1 so many times now, I know how easy it is to get Numemon and die at champion level, so I can't go in blind anymore :/
I've seen so many mixed responses to the game, a lot of people seem to love it, but the footage I've seen doesn't sell the game to me... I couldn't even tell you why :/
Completely agree with you! I think you'd have to keep ultimate the highest level achievable, but even more paths into more rookies, champions and ultimates would be great to see!
Huh, I could've sworn they start with a poison jab sort of move? But weirdly I'm seeing a lot of results online saying they use fire moves!? I'll have to start my next run as Gabumon now!
I never understood the appeal of digimon world 1 or any other world games? Everyone praise world 1, not one did i see someone say a negative thing about it, but i really don't get the appeal. I played it and hated it, i played other world games and hated them as well, i only liked redigitze decode. What's so masterpiece about it? Not trying to hate on it, as i'm a huge digimon fan. I just don't get the appeal
That's absolutely fine :) it's not going to be for everyone! The footage I've seen of the world 2 makes me think I wouldn't enjoy it, despite actually liking Dungeon crawlers! Maybe it's just nostalgia, but there's just something about this game in particular that really clicks with me :) I really appreciate the way you worded your comment!
@don_holiday Of course. I don't want to yuck other people's yums. To each their own, but I do think nostalgia plays a big role. Because I did give it a try and wanted to like it, but it was boring and not engaging
I think nostalgia can only carry you so far though, there is definitely something about Digimon World that I think just works, if I could explain it I would!!! But I think a good example is Pokemon Generation 3 (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald). People who grew up with it (and previous gens) like myself, will tell you the older games were the best, and to a degree they are. But I did a Nuzlocke for Emerald earlier this year, the learnsets of Pokemon is awful, the way Attack and Special stats worked were terrible. I don't think gen 3 is actually that good, and I'd rather not ever have to play it again XD
love the game, digimon world 2 sucked compared to the first game and there hasn't been one the same since, sure there's next order but it's still different enough that it doesn't feel the same
I completely get that, one of my Digimon died at champion, the other became ultimate and I just didn't really care. There's no attachment at all with my Digimon :/
That's fair :) I can absolutely understand that! I actually really like the combat system, it's nice to play something more relaxing than a lot of the action games I play!
Which part? Not being able to cancel to evolution, or it not being as simple as Augumon into Greymon? Cause I actually really like that it's not linear!! :)
I've never seen such a divided community on a gaming franchise before! Everyone talks about a different game, and ofc none of them play similar to each other! Guess I'm going to have to commit myself to playing every single one.
@don_holiday I'm a strong beleaver that Bandai calling the other 3 first digimon games "World" is the main reason the games weren't bigger then they were. I was super pissed off when I played digimon world 2, and it was nothing like world 1. Then after being burned by World 2, it hurt the odds of people picking up world 3. World 4 was trash. I wanted a digimon world game, not this digi beetle tank foolishness, and grinding for super long time
@@Dinowrestler I played dw2 first and was coming off of pokemon silver, so that probably influenced my opinion of the game. The first game is so very different. That early into the series I don't think a calling it something else would have hurt it
@seanchan4478 it hurt it because people were expecting more of the type of game world 1 was. Not everyone had internet access back then, and games weren't super cheap. So yeah everyone who figured well final fantasy games all play pretty much alike, digimon world 2 should be like 1. But you said it yourself you played 2 first, so it was your beginning game to digimon. So you feel differently towards it.
The no-internet thing is actually a really good point, I was lucky that my dad's job had internet, so he would go to work and print off massive walkthroughs for games like Tomb Raider! But I remember even some of the stuff he printed for Digimon World was just straight up wrong... But I also agree with @dinowrestler that it was a really weird idea to keep using the name Digimon World for their games, when they were nothing alike. They had some other titles going around like Rumble Arena, so I really don't get why they insisted on using the World name. (That being said, I didn't discover the other world games until about a year ago).
Thanking God for how many people are releasing content about this excellent game. Love to see it, bless you brother!
Thank you :) I really appreciate the amazing feedback it's had, amazing community
We really need a remake!
@@robotic5or more games closer to it, next order is good but it's far more linear than Dw1
Game is an absolute banger still holds up to this day
The Centarumon game it's base on a Japanese game where childs draw lines in the floor and kids stand on each line, every time you reach a point where a line connects with another perpendicular you have to take that line until it crosses another forward line, you can never move back to the beginning you must always move forwards.
Thank you so much :D
I didn't know... almost any of that.
Then the town building is just a whole different level of brilliance, I just think it could've expanded more and we could've had less restaurant and shop workers haha!
not to mention that Digimon World 4 in PS2 really a -walking- running disaster of disappointments 😮💨
No, the official pronunciation is, in fact, Co-el-a-mon, as that's the way it's name is said in the anime
I played this game all the time as a kid and have such a fondness for it as an adult.
Great video, I think you did fine with the script!
Awh thank you so much!! It took weeks to write and I didn't like it by the end of it XD so I really appreciate this comment :)
@ did love Rumble Arena as well! Anyways, great video man. Enjoyed the spotlight on this old gem. :)
Thank you so much :) it was a super fun project to work on!
I've been playing hacker's memory. It takes place apt the same time as CS and I'm surprised by how much fun I'm having with it.
Wow, that's another one I've never heard of actually! I'll have to look that one up too :)
Black and white Digimon World actually sounds cool as hell!! I can see the novelty wearing off fast, but it sounds cool haha
Awesome video, good job!
Thank you so much :)
The crispness of the mic recording has this man's voice sounding a bit like Guillamon and I can unheard it at times
Any appreciation for my mic is great :D it is a really nice mic, only issue is it records extremely quiet, so needs boosting a lot in post!
Good video. Always enjoyed playing Digimon world as a kid, a lot of fond memories but I actually never finished it haha
I never finished it as a kid, I found it too hard if I'm being honest haha! But I've still got the itch right now, so I guess I'm going for my 5th completion over the next few days! :D
Same
One million percent agreed on your opinion of Megadramon.
@@don_holidayMine got Ice Statue, and it was indeed GG to the rest of the game.
Just a more polished remaster would be a really good open world game by modern standards.
I listened to this while falling asleep and had a dream we could have a Guilmon :(
Great video, I adore this game and could happily listen to people yap about it for hours. one of those games i replay every year or two and know to an absurd level of detail, but it still amazes me that I occasionally learn new things about it after all this time.
geta92 has some videos of obscure game mechanics and glitches that are worth checking out, theres also a couple people that do speedruns. thats about the entirety of the content on youtube related to this game, so its nice to see a video like this pop up every now and then
btw Coelamon's name comes from coelacanth if you wanna look up how to pronounce it, took me a long time to figure that one out lol
I’ve only owned world 4 but still till this day is one of my top favorite games of all time
The best thing about only owning one, is now you get to go back and experience all the other :D that's what I'm working on!
Well achtually XD Honestly I'm just blown away by how much people know about Digimon!!! There's so much more to this franchise than I realized!!
1:50 jijimon appeared in digimon tamers along with babamon
I just had to look up Babemon, I've never actually heard of them, and now I've seen what they look like... I've never seen them before either haha!
I imagine the meetings to go like this:
Dev: So what's the budget?
Bandai: *Reaches in their pocket* *Pulls out a rubber band, a candy wrapper and 3 random small coins from different countries*
Dev: So It's a Digimon project...
idk if anyone already said this, but for centarumon's minigame you just have to turn any time there is a left or right turn in the path and not turn back at any point. as far as i can tell there isn't a way to know which path will be the correct one from the start, but if you do this he will never shoot you, and if you reach the end and actually go up to the x, it just starts over so you can just keep doing it until you get to the end (and get a bunch of items in the process)
@@don_holidaymegadramon is ultimate, i think you're thinking of machinedramon lol
Ah yeah woops, I meant Machinedramon! They knew what they were doing calling an Ulimate digimon Megadramon... Atleast we don't have a giga level digimon!

What I did, and I think it is how you're supposed to do it, when you get the option to change lanes, do so. I never remember where to start, but once you get on the right path changing lanes when the option comes up, you will not get hit again.
The second I finish Next Order I'm going to do a 100pp run of Digimon World 1, and I'll test the tricks out!
There's ALOT of special evolutions. In addition to the ones you mentioned.
any baby digimon has a chance to evolve into kunemon if they sleep in kunemon's bed.
Megadramon can also death evolve to skullgreymon(though normal greymon cannot)
Whamon and shellmon can both evolve into Coelamon if you praise them when they're 200 hours old
Seadramon and birdramon can evolve into airdramon if they sleep with max happiness, discipline, and 0 tiredness
Vegimon can evolve into ninjamon if you win 30 battles
Nanimon is by scolding any rookie when both their happiness and discipline are at zero
drimogemon can evolve into monochromon is it has 500 def
Cockatrimon and birdramon can evolve into phoenixmon after they die
Mamemon can evolve into either metalmamemon or giromon if you bring him to the guardromon in factorial town and get him remodeled
A few quick corrections:
*You need 50 battles and maximum discipline to have Vegimon become Ninjamon
*Birdramon can't become Phoenixmon by losing a life, only Kokatorimon can
*3 of the 4 possible death digivolutions that lead to your Digimon becoming Phoenixmon, Bakemon or SkullGreymon respectively, only have a 10% chance of happening each.
XD
Still at this day, I say that Digimon World has the best progression system in a game.
Everything about the game is just so well thought out, clearly a lot of time went into planning!
My first ps1 game was Digimon World and I am 28 too
Just a small correction. The protagonist isn't named "Mameo". That's the nickname Luche gives him in Digimon World: Next Order because of the Mamemon logo in his beanie cap.
Also you're right, Jijimon debuted in Digimon World.
Wish we had gotten a real sequel to this game back on ps1 it was great we needed more of this the newer ones lose the charm of it.
Great Video! I hope you do Digimon World Next Order. It's technically the spiritual successor for this game.
Thank you very much :D it's in the works but it'll take a while!
One of my favourite rpgs as a kid i have very fond memories of this game still glad i own my original copy :) 😃 ive never completed it though haha 😅
You know what you have to go and do now then :D
As a reminder to all Digimon fans,
NUMEMON is not poop or slime they are SLUGS! 😎👍 Just gotta remind people since most of the hate comes that misconception 😢
Poor poor Numemon, getting lumped in with the likes of Sukemon just because he shows up to ruin many trainer's runs! :D
I mean numemon throws poop so its still one of the filth boys
I love this game so much.
My favorite death evolution is from kokatorimon to houhoumon/phoenixmon love abusing that to cheese a easy perfect/ultimate
Was it a guaranteed evolution into Phoenixmon? I'm seeing a few people talking about that evolution!
Seeing An Old ass MrWolfy Jumpscare ! good vid!
Thank you :) If I use other people's content I always try my best to be respectful about it! But I will say, that moment was so unfortunate! He was about to go finish the game with Megadramon, and he just dies right as he goes to enter infinity mountain XD
@@don_holiday think you did a fine job being respectful about it X'D
@@don_holidayThere are 5 total spots were you can encounter Nanimon:
*Ogremon's fortress, in the room you fight him a second time
*The sewer in Factorial Town, after you recruit Numemon
*The spot where you fight Meteormon in the speedy time zone of Ancient Dino Region, as you mentioned
*The cave you find the stone tablet of the Leomon tribe in Drill Tunnel
*In Toy Mansion, after beating Warumonzaemon
You get a dimensional keychain the first and fifth time you encounter him, each one expanding your inventory space by 10 items, which allows you to carry 30 items altogether.
Shame on me
I play this once or twice every year.
I revisit it once every year or two :) and I think I'm going to go start another playthrough very soon!
@don_holiday I'd say it's worth playing. I felt the opposite and it totally grabbed me by the Nostalgia and I loved it
You, and the other comments have sold me on trying it.
Digimon World has such a special nostalgic place in my heart, great job on the video, you're cute af ✨️
And mine!!! I feel like I somewhat ruined it for myself making this video, as now I know all the secrets, but I've still never done a 100 prosperity run, so plenty of new things to do!
This game needs a remake ASAP
So long as it's a true remake/remaster, don't try modernize any systems!!
Actually, mentioning the shop minigame is a fair point, I'd be more than happy for them to make that much less RNG heavy.
You know there are sequels to this one, right? I don't mean World 2-4. Like actual sequels with improvements to the pet care aspect
I knew of Next Order, and thanks to the comments I'm learning about the rest!
iirc after the grey lord mansion, you can find that the ice sanctuary has access to mt infinty, and some other places after that, you keep finding machinedramon over and over but I cant remember how many times or on which order
@@Sacrengard The second I get some free time I will give it a really proper look :) thanks for letting me know!
bro tired is not care mistake
I wasn't sure about that one or not! There's a lot of false information out there for this game sadly :/
Getting injured, sick or dying in battle is also not a care mistake.
And for clarification:
- The care mistake for not feeding only registers if the "hungry" bubble dissapears.
I love digimon
Good video. Just please watch this at 0.85 speed cuz man this was way too fast
Sorry about that :) it's a really bad habit of mine! I actually write pauses into my script to help... Clearly I needed more!!
World 1 is amazing and i have never played it with the English patchbut the psp/3ds world game was amazing as well.
There are so many games I didn't actually know about! I had no idea there was a psp/3ds version, I've just googled it now, is it Re:Digitize?
@don_holiday yes I played it in Japanese on the psp years ago before the fan translation came out lol. It's alot like world 1 at least gameplay wise. You should definitely check it out though maybe the 3ds version because it's supposed to have extra stuff If I am remembering correctly.
I'll add it to the list :) I just picked up Next Order on sale, so I'm going to be pretty occupied for a little while haha!
@@don_holiday that one's neet I played that on my switch last summer it's pretty fun as well
I think I'm in the minority in thinking that this game is better enjoyed without understanding the digivolution mechanics outside of what the game gives you and by ignoring the collecting part of it. If you think of it as a tamagotchi the videogame, the game becomes much more enjoyable.
And yeah, the sweat doesn't count as a care mistake, it only makes your digimon get almost no advantage from training.
Gigimon is in adventure and Xros wars
There is another Digimon World game that functions the same. Digimon World Next Order is the same type of game but you have 2 digimon you raise.
I loved that game.
I've seen so many mixed responses to the game, a lot of people seem to love it, but the footage I've seen doesn't sell the game to me... I couldn't even tell you why :/
take the code make it bit bigger with a new story and people still will enjoy it
Completely agree with you! I think you'd have to keep ultimate the highest level achievable, but even more paths into more rookies, champions and ultimates would be great to see!
I'm also a fan of Digimon World 1. You can play Digimon Re:Digitize or Digimon: Next Order which have the same mechanics.
I officially own Next Order, so knowing my track record, you'll see a video on that by December 2025 :D
Coelamon should be pronounced SEAL-ah-mon, as it is a Coelocanth.
Now that you've said it... It seems painfully obvious. Thank you haha!
LMAO The title
People say cyber slueth is the best digimon game havent played this game blind
Gabumon is not piison. Is fighting type.
Huh, I could've sworn they start with a poison jab sort of move? But weirdly I'm seeing a lot of results online saying they use fire moves!? I'll have to start my next run as Gabumon now!
@@don_holidayits sonic jab
Coelamon pronounced "See-la" mon
love the game, digimon world 2 sucked compared to the first game and there hasn't been one the same since, sure there's next order but it's still different enough that it doesn't feel the same
With any luck I'll be starting Next Order today. Heard a lot of mixed reports about it, but it does look like Digimon World one, if it was made today!
@@don_holiday it's really just the fact that you raise 2 digimon at the same time for some reason, really makes it not feel like the first game
I completely get that, one of my Digimon died at champion, the other became ultimate and I just didn't really care. There's no attachment at all with my Digimon :/
Not a fan of the battle system, so personally wouldn't call it "almost perfect".
That's fair :) I can absolutely understand that! I actually really like the combat system, it's nice to play something more relaxing than a lot of the action games I play!
2:54 that the part whne pokemon is better , hopefully cybersleuth and world 2004 fix that
Which part? Not being able to cancel to evolution, or it not being as simple as Augumon into Greymon? Cause I actually really like that it's not linear!! :)
@don_holiday the choice part then the not dying of age part cause its create useless farm and cut you from the adventure
World 2 was my favorite, I've made peace with bring in that minority
