I Shot a Wedding on the DJI Pocket 2

- I just picked up a DJI Pocket 2 and decided to use it to shoot a wedding! I share my thoughts on if you could use this as a professional camera, and some of the things that I found really sucked about this pocket sized little beast.

Right 👍
This is a Broll monster. While the tripod and rig are setup and ready to go. I can get shots of hair being done, makeup, ties being ready etc. It can add so much that you never knew you could get.
While we are getting ready for the shot. I get a lot of Broll layers. I got a lot of compliments on the footage. Low light beast and it does not distort. It can also get really tight shots that are in FOCUS!
i would have loved to see that wedding clip graded just to see how it came out
I shot many weddings with the original osmo pocket. I'm all about speed when shooting weddings and only had 2 gripes with it. 1 the codec was very taxing on my older rig, 2 I wish I had 1 or 2 more stops of better low light performance (had to use noise reduction on almost all interior night shots) other than that it was a great tool. I'm still thinking of upgrading to the pocket 2.
Is there a way I set it up on my camera with a cage? Would love to use it simultaneously with tone of my camera bodies. Thank you.
@@BeniiHanaa yes you could. There are mounts for it that provide you with a 1/4 inch thread at the bottom, then you could mount it to anything. Are the cameras going to be stationary? If not you would need to keep track of 2 compositions at all times, unless you use the tracking feature on the pocket
The exact video I was looking for!!!
Never lost an accessory on both pocket. Just be carefull 😂
First law of pro photography / videography / sound recording - never take something on a job which you've not spent hours getting used to already! Even if you don't rely one it, it will distract you from the key activity. But I think you know that now... :) Indeed the Pocket 2 is an amazing device, not least because of the wide range of audio options esp if you have the creator pack. Without needing a truckload of stuff and a lot of post production, it's now possible to make the audio as much of the story as the video. Let's hope we start to break the too-easy thing of ditching the audio, slapping some music over the top, having too much slow motion, and calling it 'cinematic'! Seriously overdone in my opinion.
I love the audio options of the pocket 2! The creator combo is awesome for that, one of the main reasons I bought it. Audio is the most important part of videos! And sound design is fun! I truly dislike the word cinematic now haha
I have the combo pocket 2 version, it does everything, it's a Awesome camera
I just bought the Pocket 2 and try to get to know her but I can say that i hate the on/off button. Its so easy to press and not secure at all same as the accessories holders ( I dont trust them ). I love the quality and the light weight but some small bits and pieces could be improved. But still I love it
Which Mode Shoot For Best Result? 1080 60FPs or 30Fps?actual indoor video quality not like good so please suggest me
I would suggest shooting in 4K. And 60fps with a 180° shutter. But! If you want to get more light coming in shoot 30 with a 180° shutter. That will get you more light coming in with the image falling apart
I get your point about the aesthetic of the camera but we should put quality over aesthetic (in this case). When you are showing your work to a client you can say: this is what I can do, and no matter what tools I use this is the thing that I do. Do you like it? Let's work then. And it doesn't matter if they see me filming with a black toothbrush because they know the shit that I can do with it. As you said, this camera is shockingly good for that price. I'm saying all of this because the Pocket 2 will be my first video camera and I plan on working with brands and people at some point. I won't be ashamed of using it because it's actually really really good. I care more about the videos I can make than how silly I may look using the Pocket 2. Of course I will upgrade to a real mirroless camera someday in the future but I'm just getting started. What do you think?
Yes!!!!! I completely agree!!! It should be way more about the end product, and that you can meet the clients needs. It’s unfortunate that people base so much on the look of how it’s filmed rather than what you can achieve. This is an amazing start off camera! As long as you further your creative skills and create dope videos that meet what the client wants it shouldn’t matter what you use. The main issue with not looking super kitted out is the aspect of payment, if you are just starting out and aren’t charging $1000s there shouldn’t be any questions. Once you grow and want to start charging more your gear should start justifying why you charge so much. I have a base amount that I charge that basically covers the wear and tear on my equipment when using it. A “rental” fee if you will. And then my time is charged on top of that. This covers you as a videographer for when you need to buy new equipment.
@@Lancelotclarke Awesome! thank you
lol best place to test run a camera: "Somebodies wedding" Hm. Or maybe, that's the worst possible time to test a camera :p
nice video!
great video, you covered everything i was exactly thinking on from the pocket 2, specially that theres no option for a tigther angle shot without loosing quality with digital zoom, its something i too hope they come up with soon
Damn can you imagine if they could make a Pocket with the same tech from the Mavic 2 Zoom??!
Thanks for the review.
Absolutely spot on, you can have the very best camera that money can buy but if it looks like a 'Toothpick' (good expression) the customer will not accept you, spent many years as a wedding photographer looking like a christmast tree knowing that I could save my ;backache' if I did not carry all that Professional junk, about to buy the OP3 purely because my eyes are not that good anymore and I wont be shooting weddings (for sure) enjoyed your vid, would never shoot a wedding with new kit, can and always is a disaster, so 10 points for 'bravery' yep, I know you had the real kit working too, but very informative, thank you.
Why are there so many "photographers" that do not understand digital zooming. Your depending on the internal processing power to clear up digital zooming which they all suck. It brings the quality of the image down the more you zoom. Fixed cameras like the pocket 2 is more ment for raw footage editing. With a 64 mp chip, take regular focalpoint shots then zoom and crop in edit. The detail is night and day
You have a dope channel man! You explain things really good. Keep it up!
I have run my own Real Estate business I need a good camera for shooting Real Estate indoor videos in medium low light condition with ultra wide angle lens, please suggest me which camera is a good choice for me like, iPhone 13 pro, DJI Osmo Pocket 2, GoPro 10 or GoPro 360?
iPhone 13 pro is out of bought but if it's wonderful option then I can manage
Incredible review m8!! Have to say I love the stupid set up and all the background lighting. Looks slick!
Thank you!!! Just a hodgepodge set up 😂 but hey! I think it looks alright! 😊
I have faced an issue on my pocket 2, the wide angle lens got clash with gimbal during power off! What about your experience in this plz? It seems after using the wide angle lens (Creator combo package) I have to remove the wide angle lens every time during power off! Is it?
I have to do the same thing! The way the camera folds together on shut down doesn’t allow for you to keep the wide angle on. It is nice that when you power off, it gives you a second to remove the wide angle before it folds together, but very annoying you need to remove it after every use 😕
mine have the same issue when wide angle is attached it vibrates and switch to protection mode. also when turning off the wide angle clash as well on the gimbal.
hope they have a fix on this coz i cant really use the wide angle due to the vibrating issue.
@@undee6299 if you are having vibrating you might need to calibrate the gimbal when you put the wide angle? Unless you have already tried this!
already done that the vibrating issue on the wide angle lens attached starts when the pocket 2 started to heat up either when charging or continously using it. already sent it back to local store where i bought it they said theyll send it back to dji and request for a replacement asap.
Nice Review, but you should have added some footage shot using Pocket 2 in the wedding and that must have added a great value to this video...
Though I see your point I feel like a couple might not want their private moments out there for everyone. Besides he shares some footage from it just nothing too revealing.
Looks like UA-cam absolutely destroyed the footage which is a shame because out of camera it’s pretty amazing
UA-cam compression is the worst!!! Drive me crazy seeing the drop in quality
@@Lancelotclarke How do you avoid the drop in quality?
@@miguelbetamax usually when I export my footage I will export it as a h.264 compressed file, which is the UA-cam compression format if I remember correctly! That way UA-cam isn’t compressing it as much when I import it, but honestly sometimes UA-cam just messes it up so bad. This happens a lot more when there are a lot of smaller elements in a video or a lot of things happening, UA-cam just can’t handle it.
@@Lancelotclarke I've seen very loaded videos (like MKBHD videos) but quality is still good. There has to be a way to get it right.
@@miguelbetamax Sometimes with UA-cam videos they just won’t maintain quality. Lots of creators have talked about this on there socials and I’m mostly referencing what I’ve learned from them. Best solution is to upload a h.264 file. It should maintain quality, but UA-cam isn’t always reliable.
Great informative video! More clips...! Happy 2021 and beyond
Knob sniveling about small size/ how can it have bigger exserories when its so small / thats why people buy it/ its size with fantastic vid quality / I have both/ fab cam /
Came for wedding shot cuz thats what you saigd in the description but all i see . Is the tallking
Hello ..One of the best Review About the Pocket 2 On UA-cam ..
I just have and question ..
Can we use pocket 2 as professional cam in weeding and corporate ad.films ?And please suggest ideal setting for this in pocket 2 .
Thank you so much!
Low light it will be hard to use professionally, and with the limited lens option it makes your shots fairly limited. Depending on what you are doing, you can for sure use it professionally, if you are just starting out it’s a great start out camera. Especially due to the audio options.
As for settings, honestly the auto settings are really good! I do suggest following the 180° shutter rule, and ideally keeping the iso as low as possible
@@Lancelotclarke WHAT IS CAUSING TERRIBLE FOOTAGE LIKE THIS? ZERO DETAILS,SHAKEY,BLURRY..JUST SO BAD? ua-cam.com/video/Bs5xFUmTyHM/v-deo.html&lc=UgyhtuCXbk3Yb6Vs88h4AaABAg.9Ikc5DFpPh09IlQRhzhA-y
Great video.
What camera do you use?
The most important it's your work not the size of the camera
What were the settings you were using? Auto? Manual
I was shooting in manual, 60 frames per second, shutter speed 1/120, and varying ISO. 800-6400 I think
I think if you're doing an internal shoot, it works perfect.
I generally love my Pocket 2 for vlogging, but the auto-focusing does kill me! I’ve spent 20 minutes recording talking segments with it only to find that the Pocket 2 was focusing and unfocusing on my face constantly. Ugh!
Peter McKinnon lite :D
satisfied .. thanks
Guess you like PeterMckinnon much with those rings!
I do like him! He’s got a cool aesthetic! And I’ve been wearing rings since I was little and they can be cheaper then just getting more tattoos haha
Can you tell me a bit about the exposure mode and settings you used on the wedding shoot? Manual settings or auto?
I used Manuel settings! 60fps 1/120 shutter and iso 1600. Used the flat picture profile.
@@Lancelotclarke how about the focus?
@@Lancelotclarke did you slow it on post and what fps in timeline?
How did you get your videos to stop working blurry and low quality? Help?!
I exported as a H.264 file seemed to help a lot
@@Lancelotclarke what are your other settings for exporting ?
@@tbdvlogs3118 I typically export in whatever frame rate I shot in. 60fps footage I would export as 60 FPS. Same with resolution, normally 1080p. H.264 compression. What program are you using for export?
@@Lancelotclarke I’m using Final Cut Pro. I’ve been filming in 4K 30 FPS still looks blurry. What do you recommend doing ? Should I try 4K 60fps ? Or 4K 24fps or should I do 1080 p and export it in 4K ? I’ve heard that somewhat helps
@@Lancelotclarke so ima try to film in 1080 p and 60 FPS or should I do 24fps ? And then ima export it as if it was 4K. I’ve heard that works some how lol
Great video brotha! I just got my Pocket 2 and the extention rod/joystick. I don't know much about cameras, but I've been using my Samsung s10+ camera for all my UA-cam channel, so this is for sure an upgrade! That being said, all of the Osmo's capabilities are overwhelming for me. I'll be checking back for more updates if you have them! Cheers!
Question, would you recommend it for vlogging? Travel vlogs especially
I would 100%. Only issue comes up in low light, but everything else about it is great for travel and vlogging
@@Lancelotclarke so for low light what other options available while travelling?
It’s mostly something just to be mindful of! But if you want something that performs better in low light, a camera with a bigger sensor size would be the way to go.
@@Lancelotclarke thanks for your response. I know the fact that bigger sensor works well that is why they have increased the size in pocket 2, it has bigger sensor than osmo and go pro 9. I thought it should work well in night time but you think otherwise.
@Digital Ali True. Even i have been using it for last 10 months for my vlogs even at night time. In case you are doing any professional work
Its better to use dslr.
Very good video 😊👍😊

You didn’t mention Less Intimidating
as Subjects tend to behave more
Natural and less self conscious not
Realizing how powerful the footage
Is from such a non- threatening and
toy like appearance can be.🎥
Done subscribe. From malaysian.. next month i’ll want grab one 😉
I suggesting use DJI osmo Pocket 1
wedding shots?
Good insight about how the look of this bad boy would prevent it from being a "professional" camera! So, quick question....keeping in mind that I'm a total noob, do you think a Pocket 2 (with some ND filters and such) could produce a video of the same quality as this one: ua-cam.com/video/MY4iHZnE8IU/v-deo.html or this one: ua-cam.com/video/7bx5oZ-3EmA/v-deo.html ?
I know a mirrorless/DSLR will always beat a Pocket 2, spec-wise, but I'm pretty intimidated about jumping into that end of the pool, so to speak, if I can get comparable quality as those two videos from the Pocket 2. Basically I'm just looking to do some somewhat professional-looking fitness commercial type projects in a relatively controlled environment. Thanks, man, and keep it up with the good vids!
Hey! I don’t know if you already found the answer to this or jumped to get the Pocket! But I will say that yes, for this style of video I think the pocket would be great! It would struggle in lowlight, but this would work well I think. It all comes down to your creativity!
The nice thing about that style of video is it shows a lot of the environment which the wide angle works well for! So yea jump into it! Good luck!!
@@Lancelotclarke Thanks Lancelot, I appreciate you getting back to me! I actually did get one to start messing around with!
Where is the footage?
hi would u recommend it for commersial video ???
Only as a secondary camera. Low light and only a wide angle is a big limitation, but you can make any camera look good given a little creativity.
@@Lancelotclarke wide angle is a big limitation ??? you mean wide angle will make u trouble for making video ???
@@yosefkhaledi wide angle only. Shooting details is a little trickier with only wide angle and shooting people can cause distortion I found. But it really comes down to style and what look you are going for, I like shooting a mix of wide and zoomed in, so for my style I don’t recommend it. But like I said with a little creativity you can for sure make it look good.
@@Lancelotclarke thanks a lot, i hope it would be help me for my reason . but zoom dslr cameras are my favorite choose , i hope it would be my best and not my end . :V :XD
Footage?
I enjoyed your video, but all the time, I was thinking, “What did the guests think? What did person who hired you think?” I’m glad you answered that. I don’t shoot weddings, I shoot live theatre, concerts, and dance shows. I normally shoot with two GH5’s and a ENG camera. Recently, I’ve been feeling the need for an additional camera, when shooting concerts. Often it is difficult to get a drummer or a person on a keyboard, or even a conductor of an orchestra without a camera on the stage. I have an iPhone 12. It takes great video. I think it would work well for this purpose, but I’m not sure how my clients would react.
No mate. Do NOT USE THIS FOR WEDDING. YOU WILL LOSE RESPECT AND PEOPLE WILL LOOK DOWN. THEY ARE PAYING YOU TO SHOOT ON BIGGER EQUIPMENT
@@sadiqandnature I’m agree I this scenario is important to show a nice gear as well
enjoyed this video! plus i thought I was watching Peter Mckinnon at times dude! haha loved the insights toothpick be damned! 🤣
Yo he said , you showed up with a tooth pick for a camera, lol , that was funny, lol
Dislike for the misleading title.
Worst title you could have for this video. You had one job man. Show some footage.
I hate videos with alot of talk and no sample #realtalk
Less talking more footage bro
No footage, just talking, disliked
Lol people hire photographers... Just for the editing, this days everyone has an iphone or good cameras mostly in the u.s they are just lazy and wont mess with editing software... But you can pretty much do the same that with "professional" gear... Outside of drone shots and crazy blured backgrounds...
I mean have to disagree some. The artistic vision is 100% important. Even how Lance mentions that he had to think ahead about cropping in post. That’s only something you learn from doing this type of work professionally
@@KJAYG yes, But not all photographers have that and some people that are not photographers do... they just need to grab the camera and mess with editing... If you like movies, drawing or music... Chances are you'll make good compositions...
why dont non of you vloggers spit out the truth that it doesnt record long videos in 1 video but it divides 5/6 minutes multipple videos in to cattegory........
...its a lovely camera no doubt about that..but ive never seen any dji vloggers said..it doesnt record 30 mins video in one go ..just one chanelk said..that osmo poket 2 recrords small multiple video not 1 hour long video in one go..
