Props for putting Dawes, Rigby and Miller in this mix. I was very small when Rigby won her silver medal on beam in 1970. A huge, huge big deal. People forget what an unstoppable machine the USSR was back then. I appreciate Miller because she held her own against the USSR/RUS/ROM when their talent was 5 miles deep, with the old vault horse, and dead FX floors. Our current FX floors almost border on a tumble track. Refreshing to see something different.👍

Laura L I honestly think that Aly Raisman’s tally of 6 Olympic medals (3 of them gold) and 4 World medals trumps the national titles won by Wieber. Jordyn Wieber is a great gymnast with some great accomplishments, but IMO Raisman has had the more storied career. Longevity also ranks Raisman above in my opinion. Wieber has retired after one Olympic games, while Raisman has medaled in 2 Olympics and is still going.
captainbryce1 i like your list a little better, but it’s crazy how so many great gymnasts were still left off there. The United States has had some amazing athletes and still does. I’m glad your list has Simone biles on top. I know that Simone has yet to compete in her second Olympics so maybe that’s where Shannon May have the slight edge but Simone’s dominance alone should have her ahead of everyone.

Excellent list! The only one that I didn’t know was Kathy. I actually met Dominique Dawes last summer. She opened a gym down the street from my house. She’s so sweet.
I think you gotten right! Absolutely my favorite gymnasts. Before Simone came along, Shannon was my favorite. But, there’s one I’d love to see more of and that’s Julianne McNamara; yes, I love her more than Marylou. They were in the same olympics and she usually came out on top when they competed and both were coached Kiroli and they were the “best” around but it seems Julianne faded into the background although she won a team silver and an individual gold. Look Julianne up and see. I think we all forget about them in that era, like Tracy Talavera.
They are, and she would be in a list of best US gymnast, but a list of my 6 favorites. I have made many other videos with just Simone though, as she deserves an entire video.

The only thing wrong with this video is it's about 6 times to short! I would love to see someone put together a 'remembrance' video strictly on Shannon Miller. She is the reason I fell in love with women's gymnastics. She was so far ahead of her time for American Ladies dominance. 💖🌹🥰 A true all around performer. I was very lucky to have gotten tickets to seeing her live in Atlanta in 1996. I went into the arena expecting to fully see a great performance or 2 but from other Countries. Was a great fan of gymnastics and left Atlanta a huge fan!
Thanks for the Rigby shout out. When she won her silver on the balance beam, it was such a big deal. I know you compete against who shows up. Rigby had to win against the Big Red Machine (Soviet Union). Biles never had that go for the throat bury you type competition. That is also why I respect Miller’s wins. The USSR never gave an inch.
I agree artistic gymnastics is a very subjective sport and everyone will have different opinions. Shannon Miller is #1 in my book simply because she has the right balance of elegance, dance, artistry combined with power. She looked very elegant no matter what she did.

I was trying to remember Rigby, then I recall Peter Pan, her role for a live action for a long time. It was also because of her, gymnastics was first placed on the map for fans.

Simone biles skills is comparable to that of three event specialists combined. As if those specialists decided to fuse together in order to become simone biles. She's excellent on all events except on bars.
I can understand them all except for Cathy Rigby. In her entire career she only won one medal, a silver for the balance beam. Maybe I missed her, but was Mary Lou Retton in here? She was the first American woman to ever win an all around gold medal. As for Simone, she is hailed by gymnasts and coaches alike as the best in the world with more medals and more gold medals than any other gymnast.

She had what is now called a "classic style": very slow movements, pausing elegantly after every skill.
