Lisboa, Portugal uptown at Pensao Tres Perolas was my home for a year and half. Later I stayed at Campismo de Monsanto outside Lisboa, and Monte Gordo campground in the southern Algarve for two years. I met new friends in Portugal from around the world. Portugal is my first choice to live besides my present location. The food in the dozens of restaurantes was very tasty and delicious, plus lots of wine. My city travel photo ID card got me around the city on buses, trains, and the underground subway. Portuguese were the most hospitable and friendly to me than all of the rest my nearly 6 straight years in several other European countries including France, Greece, Italy, Sicily and Spain. After 3 1/2 years in Portugal I flew to India for 6 months to Bombay (now Mumbai), and old Portuguese Goa. Goan Portuguese related to the director at Monsanto were most hospitable to me in Panjim (now Panaji), Goa. Deo baraik urum. Amchem Goem. Saudacoes, amo voces. I still write and Facebook to friends from Portugal. I love Portugal, especially the Portuguese themselves. Amo voces.

Hahaha he says walk around-drive around this neighborhood... The driving is so American and a waste. Traffic is chaotic, frustrated and stressful. Waiting in line at traffic lights on a hill doesn't seem like fun to me. Walking, cycling, riding a scooter okay but driving a car is just stupid! You totally miss out when you have to focus on the traffic instead of being able to quickly stop and look around. There's no parking space everywhere as it is an old city that WASN'T DESIGNED FOR CARS.

I was reading something recently and it was saying that Europe is losing their culture and will disappear, will in extinction very soon because of invasion of Islam, Mulcumanos. So it discouraged to move Portugal or to another part of Europe due to fear.

I am British and I agree with you. However I lived in Central Europe for 10 years and experienced life from a different perspective and I am not wrapped up in all the false bravado of being British. I can see the lies and manipulation that is passed over in history regarding The British Empire. Please do not tar all British people with the same brush as those holidaymakers that just get pissed and cause trouble due to binge drinking, we are not all like that some of us are traveled and experience life with empathy and understanding of others cultures. Problem is caused due to uneducated binge drinking fools that never step out of their own culture for a single second because they would be lost without a fried breakfast and pint of larger! I have a list of 3 possible places so far for retirement destinations and Portugal is on that list but I have 6 years to wait so the list may grow and change yet. Sorry you have had such bad experiences with us!

when you think of a city, you only think about things to look at? trade that for the amazing plastic free food and drinks, peace and relative security, warm and helpful people, a sense of what means an healthy, simple and down to hearth culture/life, a great deal of stuff you won't find anywhere else. open your eyes and get rid of that crappy mindset and you will find a lot to see.
