  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 101 Tutorial Series. Sidestep Shooting / Strafe Shooting.
    Sidestep shooting is basically strafing back and forth, where when you decide to strafe back in the other direction there is a small period of time where your shots are accurate, making you both difficult to shoot and deadly.

    Correct, I am recording at 60FPS so my game FPS will be intervals of 60, and because I'm recording my computer can't reach 120. When I am not recording I cap it at the standard 300. I really have to disable netgraph... because folks keep pointing this out EVERY single video...

      WHAT! Why? Did they make it so it is way less accurate?

    • @HoorayforOranges
      @HoorayforOranges 9 років тому +7

      That's not true at all. You can run and shoot by a stutter step and be practically 100% accurate. This is simply sidestep shooting as explained in the video.

    • @gjune36
      @gjune36 9 років тому +84

      MMACheerpuppy I think you misunderstand. I never said you can't use strafing to be accurate. I said you can't use the quick shift walk tip in the video. This is because of 2 two things.
      1) When this video was made, the instant you hit shift you were in walking speed. Players would run at full speed, and right before they shoot they tap shift for much higher accuracy. You can still go from running to walking for more accuracy, but it won't be instant.
      2) Also when this video was made, accuracy was not yet bound to movement speed. So the instant you hit walk, you get the accuracy for someone moving at the speed of walking, even though you have not decelerate fully from running to walking.
      You can of course still stutter step. Just that tapping shift won't help you at all. The timing now is much tighter and require even more skill.

      Antagonist Wizard July 10, 2013 Update -
      "- Adjusted the function that mapped movement speed to weapon inaccuracy. The linear portion of this function is now exponential." Accuracy is now base on movement speed.
      February 5, 2014 Update -
      "-Movement inaccuracy when walking is now calculated differently, resulting in better walking accuracy across the board." This was the patch where they fixed it completely, and further more refine movement speed and weapon accuracy.

    I read all the comments sir... I didn't reply because I don't qualify as a professional opinion on this. Sidestep shooting and shift stepping are two different techniques that can be used in different situations, or even together to throw off opponents. I don't think you have to choose between them, (By shift stepping I assuming you mean what I call Shift Tapping, where you hit shift to shoot accurately)

    I feel like the look of the guns when shooting, like the way they pushed back, looked much much better 2 years ago when the game came out. It's sad they changed it, and pretty much the visuals in general, I think the game looked nice the way it was when it first came out.

      Yeah, "pros" had to go and complain about fog though.. now they're trying to get rid of post processing altogether. :/
      I can't agree more about how the viewmodel used to spring upward and back instead of forward and back.. I guess it doesn't matter though considering a bunch of people had that disabled.

    • @CataclystX
      @CataclystX 10 років тому

      That's changeable via console commands, that's just an effect to "show" the recoil more realistically and using effects, because it does look more immerse.
      *It should be changeable via settings using sliders.*
      But aspiring pros / pros are too immersed in the game itself and too focused to care, or to want the effect.

    • @MicahJohn21659

    I think what he is also saying is using shift right after to strafe. Because as you strafe, it takes a longer time to completely stop (to have best accuracy) then to strafe>shift/walking>stop or in other words a>d>a>d>shift>shoot. I am having trouble trying to get better at doing that. Since shift I have to use shift as my pinky, it gets tired really fast.

    Since learning this literally RIGHT AWAY i started averaging 40 kills per DM map 80% of the time. One time 5 guys were shooting me at the same time, took them all down :D. I used to be a 20 kill 30+ death guy. Listen to chill music with ingame sound off aswell, as aiming for a 2-3 burst at the head with the AK. It really does make a huge difference then just normal shooting.

    strafing is when your moving back and forth with A and D but the critical point is where you stop to go to the opposite direction your walking only at this point do you get a accurate shot (which is when you stop for a fraction of a second)

    This is something the CS community has always needed; actual tutorials for how to play the game. CS has always been a hard game to play, with a steep learning curve that drives new players away. SC2 and other competitively successful games have had people like Day[9] to explain the game, but CS has never really had a major source. Netcodeilluminati would be good, but they I don't think many people want to pay for premium.

    • @royalgoose
      @royalgoose 10 років тому

      you should tap when engaging long-range targets, generally. 2-3 shot burst can be good for midrange, and spraying is generally good close range. Maybe different things will work better for you, but I think these are good rules to follow.

    In a pure duel I found that sidesteping with SG-553 is really good, since you will shoot firt your accuracy resert way faster with scope on, the obvious down side is that against multiple oponent since you are slower it isn't going to matter, but in a 1 o 1. And I have tried this in duel arena servors... I just did wreck skilled AK-47 playersjust by having my scope ready a little bit before teh engagement. I noticed that they kinda miss their headhsot by trying to shot before mebefore I always ended up shooting first with SG-553.

      hold "a"for a time, release and quickly tap "d" to stop(dont hold "d" just tap it to focus your accuracy) quickly shoot one bullet, then hold "a" again to keep moving, you can do this so fast that you look like you never stopped moving, yet you have perfect accuracy.

    how did you make your cross hair that color, that's the color? I used on source and I'm finding their default cross hair colors aren't visible on all maps.
