Billy could stay as the HC if he does what Saban did. Hire a great offensive and defensive coach, let them take over on the field and every now and then wander around practices giving a thumbs up ... or down. Basically, have Billy sit in the office signing checks and let his specialist take care of the team on the field. Also, as people got used to what Bama did on the field, Saban would replace those coordinators creating fresh schemes. Billy wants to be a CEO and an on the field coach at the same time. It doesn't work that way.

College football is now professional football run poorly. Billy should be the GM and hire coaches as you said. Billy may be great at recruiting, but he is not a good offensive coach or play caller. The fact that we had one player drafted last year in the NFL shows that he might not be that great an evaluator of players either.

I agree completely about the group of 5 thing. Almost all coaches work their way up from smaller jobs. I never understood the "Sunbelt Billy" insult because it almost always came from someone who is a fan of a team that has a coach that came from a snaller conference. It just never made sense to me. Nobody tries to insult Kirby Smart by calling him "Coordnator Smart". Nobody tries to insult Brian Kelly by calling him "Independent Kelly." Why would it apply to Billy?

At The University of Florida mind you. That should never happen. Don't blame fans. How about hold coaches accountable for making millions of dollars and not doing their damn job. Billy literally didn't try the first two years because he knew he had a long-term contract and promised years. By the time you got to the third year and he thought he would turn it on, it was too late. What he thought would be easy to turn on was not easy to turn on and the fan base has completely left him. It's his own fault because he didn't try the first two years. This is the same problem we had with Mullen except Mullen stopped trying because he wanted to go to the NFL.

Fact: Florida is nunber one in signed NIL deals and outpace the University of Texas (second place) by 36 percent.
Fact: Florida men's teams won the Capital One Cup for 2022 - 23 and are tied for the most by any university with three, but the first two titles came during the first two years. The women won in 2013 - 14. Current standings have the men and women ranked 33 and 22, respectively.
Fact: If the gators were a country, they would have tied for 16th in the world with 4 gold medals and 11 total medals.
    I interpret these data as:
    1. We have talented athletes across the entirety of sports
    2. We are willing to sign athletes to NIL contracts
    3. However, the athletic department as a whole is inconsistent based upon low performance in the overall Capitol One Cup standings. This reflects leadership at the top of the department.

  • @RollinIsbell
    @RollinIsbell Місяць тому

I think Napier probably is a "good" recruiter. And by Sun Belt standards, he might have been an elite recruiter. That meant that he was putting better talent on the field than the other Sun Belt teams and, therefore, he won games. Not necessarily because he was a great coach, but because he had better talent. And, that "better talent" led him to truly believe that he was a great play-caller. And, it led people in Football circles to think he was "the next hot coach."
So, of course, he believed the right thing to do was to bring the whole Ragin' Cajun circus to Gainesville.
NOW ... Napier's in a league where nearly every team is as-good (if not better) at recruiting than he is. It almost seems that he is evaluating the talent on this team in comparison to his Louisiana teams. Perhaps that's how he convinced himself - and told all of us - that this was the best team he's ever had.
I was a "ride it out for at least four years no matter what" guy when Napier was hired. Even said it after the first two seasons where we saw no improvement game-to-game or season-to-season. But he lost me during the Texas A&M post-game press conference when he said he was going to follow his plan "regardless of the outcome." That's the epitome of "pride goeth before the fall."

He brought in a special teams coordinator that wasn't from Louisiana, that wasn't one of his buddies, and magically all of a sudden we have an awesome special teams after sucking for two years. We need more coaches that hate Napier on our team.

Ali, now you know I'm going to call it like I SEE it and I will continue to do that today. First, Jake Crain should be a regular guest on your show! Second I will once again give my opinion on the current status of the Florida football program:
We can all try and figure out the nitty gritty details of why we continue to under achieve but unless we are Napier's shadow that will only be speculations.
1.Fact is this football program continues to make the same mistakes week end and week out, no improvements over time.
    2. Napier has made bad hires since his hire, the biggest being Rob Roberts from Auburn, really?
    3. No details with his pressers about busted coverages/missed blocks and bonehead penalties! Again, really? You afraid to call guys out? Pathetic!
    4. I can go on and on but we see the same damn things week after week and his low key pathetic scripted pressers have gotten really stale and old!
He is lost in the so called "believe in the process" BS that he preaches every week. He is weak and is certainly no leader to turn around a struggling football team on the major stage.
No doubt that some of what Saban said live on ESPN is true but damn! We have no one that can figure this shit show out at the "University OF FLORIDA??

What Florida needs is an imaginative offense that keeps the opposition guessing and on their toes. Some razzle dazzle like Spurrier, some creativity like Urban. Right now Florida's offense is dull, boring and completely predictable. Two good quarterbacks and even then there's a certain regularity (aka predictability) in when they are played. Napier needs to have a full time offensive coach/play caller instead of calling all the plays himself. His play calling is boring. Oh, and the defense needs to be better. Right now they're leaving holes so wide a tortoise could walk through them.
