  • Shane Cole is a young guy who stumbled on graphic emasculation material at the age of 12 years old, proceeding to develop an addiction to this form of content over the course of his teen years, and then experimenting with transition until he came to terms with the self-hatred fueling his identity crisis. Now, he hosts breathing workshops and hopes to help other men heal from erotic substance abuse.

I'm over an hour in and I'm overcome with emotions listening to this. What a lovely young man (& what a kind, wise and fun interviewer) I'm struck by a salient theme that I'm seeing in a lot of these young people on gender journeys - a profound spiritual thirst. It's beautiful and also heartbreaking that they were manipulated the way they were in their search for the divine and self. I am more convinced than ever that gender ideology is a malicious cult.

BACK IN THE DAY (1970's) they were pretty fierce about showing the consequences of bad choices in driving with
    horrific DRIVER TRANING FILMS.
I think horrific films should be made to terrify kids about the horrors of the internet.
    Main points:
The 'net will hook boys with images of BODIES; (i.e., porn.)
The 'net will hook girls with gossip and social media sites that hook into girls' bad emotions.

It's a special kind of hell being with a porn-addicted man, and a special kind of hell trying to cure him while being his sexual partner. I don't think it's a form of suffering that men easily understand or even perceive. I wouldn't recommend 'getting a girlfriend' as a cure on that basis, and I also would be skeptical of this man's assurance that he 'compartmentalised' his addiction such that it didn't spill into his relationships for a long time.
Perhaps though having the desire for a girlfriend as a goal that motivates a man to get clean of his addiction would be better. See it as the motivation to stick with the cure rather than the cure itself.

Idk ... how did sports and coaching get to be considered super masculine, therefore male. In the 1970s, my sister-in-law was an assistant coach for a big, major league football team. She was one of the most "feminine" women I've ever met. Under 150cm tall, slight build, embroidery, fine knitting, beautiful impeccable clothes. The footy team also got coached in ballet by a female. " What???" I said to my sister-in-law. She said: "yes, it improves their ankle work, and football kicking skills." But, that was when we were breaking down stereotypes, not building them up.

maybe a big factor is how ignorant people will accuse males who are not into sports as being feminine in some way? A boy or man who isn't good at sports will have his masculinity undermined and attacked by his so called "brothers". males are shamed a lot more if they show interest in "feminine" things much more than women who show interest in "masculine" things. It's a double standard. Girls can get into sports if they want, and celebrated if they do, BUT boys MUST be into sports or they are bullied and shamed.

What parents can do is to model open conversation with a genuine pursuit of honesty and be solution-oriented between the two of them. It's hard for children who are born non-verbal to launch themselves into complex analysis of their very real problems. But if they are modeled by their parents, then the threshold for attempting to stumble forward under the guidance of the parents is lowered. Parents can show their children how to conversationally open such an endeavor and what kind of response they would receive if they attempted it.

I was a massage therapist and had a client (in LA) who had a "Kundalini injury" that, if I remember correctly, was prompted by a bad Ayahuasca trip, and gave her chronic pain on one side of her back.
When I worked on her neck while supine, she would stick out her tongue and make strange noises.
You will probably interpret this as some kind of demonic energy, but I did not feel disturbed, and I have felt negative paranormal activity before (not during massage). It is distinctly dark and uncomfortable.

Watching numerous interviews with detransitioners, something I've noticed is that a lot of them are still preoccupied with image and gender stereotypes. At least in the way they communicate about their experiences, their thought patterns remain the same about the binary nature of masculinity and femininity. This is not to say there isn't a sex binary, just that when it comes to "gender", I can't think of a non-tautological word that can be used to describe one, but not the other.
Some people might say something like "stoic courage is masculine" or "nurturing sensitivity is feminine", but that's really utter bullshit since those traits are common to both sexes.

33:33 this reminded me of when I was 19ish and asked my mother what a gold@# show@# was in the car with my sister... my sister was mortified but my mother answered me. 😂 my sister was also surprised my mother bought me neglige for Christmas when I was a young adult cause she always thought our mother a prude... that was her own perception based on different sexual morals. My mother didn't care how ppl lived their life, but she had certain expectations under her roof. My sister used to tell our mother about her swingers lifestyle (which our mother didn't agree with) and then stopped talking to her cause our mother jokingly suggested she charge for 'services' since she was always in need of money 😂 I thought the joke hilarious, but needless to say, my sister didn't. As much as kids say they want their parents to be more open with them, the kid has to be open to the info the parent gives and willing to understand the parent has their own perspective which may or may not be helpful to them and is not indicative of the parents love for them.

If my mother had said that to me, I would have taken the hint that 1) I should quit pushing her buttons by going into details about things she didn't approve of and 2) that I should take responsibility for myself and quit relying on others to bail me out.

Thank you for bringing him on and having this conversation , and thanks Shane for sharing your story. It truly does come across from your energy that you have healed, and that you are no longer phased for something that brings a lot of shame to many people.
I really valued his storytelling and how he has integrated so much, and how he was humble and grateful for the people who were supportive along the way, in whatever stage of the journey he was.
I think it is too "wooey" at times, which i don't necessarily have a problem with, but, wooey stuff has many interpretations. You could as easily use the same quotes, etc, as motivation to the opposite, as well as these wooey categories like "masculine energy" etc. But i also think the wooey stuff was what made it interesting to hear, hearing a good evocative story like his is much more captivating than most gender critical rants.
I'm not sure if my conclusions from his story are different than what most of the audience seems to be arriving to. His and other detransitioner stories do make me question certain practices like "informed consent" but in general i don't think i'm ideologically poisoned for or against this "gender ideology" ppl are so afraid about with very conspirative undertones

I think you are giving too little weight to how impressionable some people are. My stepson had pre-existing mental illness which made him vulnerable to suggestion, and as a result he was bullied and lonely.
This, plus unsupervised internet access, led to him being caught up in the nastiness he found on DeviantArt and UA-cam and eventually Bronie booru's- sissy hypno, anthro, vore, clopping, and eventually participating in cross-sex sexual RPs in the DMs. (He was not good at remembering to close browser windows and I saw it)
I spoke with Benjamin about this, and my son's experience is sadly not unique; it keeps getting repeated to him in other testimonials.

Fascinating and very honest, perceptive discussion. Special kudos to Shane -- and also the girlfriend. Wishing them both all best! Especially interesting will be the follow-ups on his -- and others' -- clients (or patients). I know that serious professional people are revisiting psychedelic therapies, this time under more rigorous scientific controls, so it sounds promising. I know nothing about Holotropic Breathwork but I do know a lot about the scientific basis of and therapeutic application of "straight" hypnosis, not as a therapy in itself but as a way of delivering therapy, whether cognitive behavioural or psychodynamic. I need to investigate this breathwork approach because I'd like to ensure that it's not some kind of hyperventilation syndrome. Overbreathing (which might be something totally different, I don't know yet) does alter blood chemistry -- Wikipedia has an article about it. Thanks to all concerned for posting.

I like this interview. The guy seems very cool and honest. I do think an alternative explanation for his experience with these things is that he is particularly suggestible. That would explain why he was so affected by the sissy hypno stuff, and also why the breathwork was so intense and got him out of it. I personally don't buy the mechanistic explanations like it influencing your blood flow and neurotransmitter levels. At least I don't think it does that directly, it does that by suggestion would be my guess.

You know what, it might be interesting for you to study some European politics. In the US, we have such ridiculous access to material resources, we're so ridiculously defensible, we have such a large economy and population of workers, and the basic societal founding charter/culture of our country is so stable (relative to the rest of the world) that believe it or not, politics has never rly been an all-encompassing priority for the US. It's more abt money, industry, military, so demagoguery and cronyism can seep into the de-prioritized political sphere, without compromising national stability (up to a point).
Now, a little bit of French politics for your palate, on the other hand: Europe's historically complicated and volatile, you're not a sole regional powerhouse, potential adversaries are right on your border, political decisions have existential consequences. And, the way ppl think abt these things matters, what they believe matters. So intellectualism and politics both, are a more serious and important part of ppl's lives, that take up more bandwidth.
