Seinfeld has been the king of his style of comedy since the early 80s. Yes, styles change, but he (and Leno) was the most imitated stand-up comedy of the 1980s. You are missing point by showing the stand-up bits that were the intros and outros to his show. They were written for the show, not his touring or talk show appearances. The original pitch for the show was "how a stand-up gets his material," so those bits were there to complement the show. The material was about what you were going to see or had seen that episode. They probably should have eliminated them earlier, but he got rid of them for the last two seasons.

This is so great, because a 36 minute video about a celebrity's shortcomings is always much better if the creator of the video puts on a bucket hat and is actually showing himself 75% of the time throughout the video. This guy gets that.

Ok so.... the reason Seinfeld is considered a comedy legend is because of the show, not his stand up. And in the show it's the "supporting" cast that makes it funny. Jerry's chracter is the least funny of them all. Some of the situations he finds himself in are, but not Jerry. It's George, Elaine, Kramer, Newman or is it Neuman... anyway, the other chracters that makes the show funny. Jerry never was. Larry David, on the other hand, is what Jerry should have been. My thoughts five minutes into the video.

100% agree! Larry David is the goat and I feel like Jerry has been surrounded by so many amazing people like Larry and Julia Louise Dryfuss that the moniker of Comedy Legend just happened to fall on him. Thanks for checking out the video I appreciate the support!

    • @mikearchibald744

I don't really agree with that, its subjective. Jerry was the 'straight man', ANYBODY in comedy will tell you being the straight man is the hardest gig in comedy. Acting 'over the top' is easy once you either find a rhythm and a desire, or else do enough coke.
I really don't get how Larry David is funny. All he does is complain about shit and act exasperated and yell. Kinison was funny for about an hour, then it was "what else you got". Thats what 'gimmicks' get you. And of course when he and Jerry did ALL the writing, the show was marginal at best. That era of Simpsons comedy and these shows changed comedy because all these people hired poeple who had LIVES, they weren't 'comedy writers'.
His stand up isnt my cup of tea, but there's no doubt that he packs people in. I'd argue the opposite, lots of comedians are 'naturally funny', he WORKS at it. David Gilmour being a natural musician versus Roger Waters who WORKED his way into being a songwriter. Like I said, I don't find it that funny, but only a fool would say he's not a comedian and a VERY good one, if not great. But I certainly wouldn't put him in any top ten list.
Frankly I like his humour better than Larry Davids as a head writer. Problem is, you need a LOT of really funny people working for you. Kenny Rogers Roasters or Merv Griffin Set are about the funniest 22 minutes of television ever. Trouble is when you 'go for the top' its easy to miss and you get, well, MUCH of season 9. The saying goes that you 'don't know where the line is til you go over it". No way was that show "quitting on a high note". It was at peak popularity, but that doesnt equal quality.
That he is a dysfunctional individual is something he ADMITS. He just never does interviews where hosts say "you know thats f*&^ed up right?"

And, other than Seinfeld dating a 17 year old and possibly the training exercises in Israel, I didn't really see anything else wrong with what he said or did. He said he didn't see anything personally that was inappropriate. And it's fine if you don't find him funny. I would say check out his regular stand up routine, you might like it better. Or some clips of the actual Seinfeld series. I personally think the show is funny, but am not a huge fan of it. I'm actually a big fan of Larry David's follow up show though, Curb Your Enthusiasm, which just ended on HBO. Same kind of premise, questioning social norms, but with improved dialogue and even poked fun at the bad Seinfeld finale.

I clipped some of his standup for this and just can't get into his comedy but I'm 100% with you on Curb! Larry David is a hilarious writer and actor and is really smart in the way he writes his comedy. He's evolved over the different eras he produced for and has stayed relevent because he's genuinely funny and talented. The show Seinfeld is funny because of Larry and the character actors. It's Always Sunny is great too! I just always felt like the people Jerry surrounded himself with are always funnier than him but not everyone has achieved the same regard as comedy legend. I respect your opinion though and appreciate your willingness to have a conversation about it! Thanks for checking out my video! ✌🖤

Jerry benefited disproportionately to his talent level based on other factors (being surrounded by talented actors perfect in their roles, a writing partner like Larry David). He's not a comedy legend based on his standup skills, but he earns the label by being co-creator of one of the most successful comedy shows in the history of television. Did some of the jokes not date well? Sure. But being a creep helped the show succeed, in the same way there is a creepy-funny tone to Curb Your Enthusiasm. And yes, creepy people get a pass in society if they are talented and/or successful. Whether you consider him talented or not, his show was successful by every measure (critical, commercial/monetary).

You can't seem to get your argument straight. A 38 year old man dating a 17 year old does not make that 38 year old man unfunny. Nor does it make his comedy not worth watching. Anymore than marrying his cousin makes Jerry Lee Lewis a bad singer/performer.

I didn't watch it all the way, but it said 'creepy', not 'unfunny'. Ironically I think Jerry is MOST entertaining in interviews, and I think he knows that its partly a 'performance' as much as stand up is. I think he intentionally messes wit people.
As for 'love', I'm not judgemental, 17 is legal, end of story. And shit happens in marriages, sometimes they dont work out. But all these things certainly lead into the 'creepy' factor. When GILBERT GOTTFRIED calls you a 'weird guy', that really saying something.

    @mikearchibald744 14 днів тому

I only watched the recent clips in the intro. That says it all. "I always wanted to be a real man....I never made it". That says it all. That of course is how that ENTIRE GENERATION feels, thats what the whole "this is your dad, he fought a war, or ran a business...you are NOT the 'man' your dad is". This is why so many men are terrified of the 'fatherless generation'.
Of course those men also sat around while the most horrible political machinations went on. They watched and HELPED worker rights get destroyed. They had no clue about women, didn't care to learn. Didnt care that their country was murdering poeple on the other side of the world. In short, they were selfish and told that the 'hierarchy' was actually a representation of men. Thats how propaganda works. Thats the ONLY way you can tell a man to DIE for what is a geographic boundary.
And the idea of that propaganda is to make you 'emulate' the hierarchy as much as possible. Hierarchy is of course what ALL propaganda is about because 'democracy' means ALL people are equal, and thats something NO 'hierarchy' wants to see. Which is why america has both the 'tools' of democracy and yet the LEAST amount of actual democracy.
Ironically Seinfeld is likely TWICE the man his father was, just because of SOCIETY. But he'll never see it. For one thing he's had a BILLION times his fathers business success, which 'his' generation sees as a main feature of 'manliness'. His wife is pretty much a good looking appendage, by that I mean a trophy wife who basically 'did projects' much as his mother probably did. Her function was to bear him children and BE an appendage.
Being a 40 year old hooking up with a teenager is beyond creepy, even at the time, but old guys with y oung women is literally part of the hierarchy-or 'patriarchy' if you prefer.
He now probably knows a million times more about cars than his father ever did. Why men are so fascinated by a means of locomotion is beyond me, I'm imaginig the 'real men' of two centuries ago and remembering a line from All Creatures: "Its just a horse". Vets knew all about horses, but the idea that farmers were spending all their conversations talking about power versus speed and such shit is just funny. I think this is a way of FAKING what they think it is to be a 'real man'. "Look, I mess around with cars".
If Seinfeld actually TALKED to his dad and said 'what makes a man' his dad probably would have said what all honest people do "I have no idea". Thats true of ALL social expectations except defence in the face of attack (and why that feeling is so easy to duplicate in people who are under no threat at all).
This is why so many men are TERRIFIED of the future. They have only an idealized view of the past and they are TRAINED to protect the status quo by all means at their disposal.
The MAIN reason I'd say he's right in acting like a child is the way he talks now. In short, he's selfish. But the chivalric notions of manhood were ALWAYS fiction. For those who don't know, the chivalric tales were written AS propaganda because the men with power were robbing and raping and murdering with impunity. Sending them on a crusade helped, but the tales were written to try to CIVILIZE men. Three in four women in college will have been sexually assaulted by the time they graduate. Women barely even BOTHER to call police after a rape. Men are NOT the saviours, never have been in anything but fiction. Thats not to say heroics never happen, but they aren't gender based are part of some larger narrative.
Once you realize that and strive for 'equality', THEN i would argue "you've grown up". To put it in a slogan form "use your power to end your power".

And, yes, Jerry did get something of a pass from the media because of the popularity of his show but a lot of tongues were wagging. What you’re not understanding is that is only just a set up for what episodes he’s about to be playing in; besides that, it’s not just like he’s putting a Word Tour together, he’s setting up a narrative from the episode which would follow his opening sequence.1989-92: Once the show became more popular he would no longer do that introduction anymore; it just started within the episode my friend. However! He should have kept his mouth shut about the whole Israeli affair because he’s not in politics. Like the rest of these celebrities who are mainly woke or paid off to lie about the other side of the Democratic Party lying their asses off about Trump or whoever is in the race for the next presidential election anyway. And the Seinfeld series began in April Of 1989 not 1990; like that copyright date reads on the end of the actual pilot of the show, but I was doing time for a DUI so I remember that date specifically because I was in jail ffsakes! So I’m positive that’s the correct date when it premiered being a huge fan of the comedian beforehand. And it’s also over a 36+ year period too. I do get your point as I literally just watched a show on You Tube last night called Seinfeld based in reality and Curb Your Enthusiasm has taken some of those same things from the Seinfeld series which wasn’t just written by Larry David, but everyone else that is in this special. Check it out for yourself if you’re interested in seeing how much of it is a real thing which happened to one or more of these guys or whatever is just from the writer’s imagination. I repeat. Celebrities shouldn’t get involved with politics; cuz even they’ve got no idea what they’re supporting. It’s not at all what anyone with no knowledge or research about the subject would ever believe and just dismiss it as a conspiracy theory. Wrong on all levels. Google:US. I Have A Theory Jerry Doesnt Need The Money But For Micheal Richards Hes Selling His Show All Around To Comedy Central , Then To Netflix whatever the order so far has been. Seinfeilds Trying to Money Help , Residules Pay Kramer because Kramer is ALL done Public Personawise. Jerry brought him Hilariously on the Letterman Show For Most Of An episode Via Split screen And Tried to have Us All Believe To Forgive Him ? And Instead Righteous So the Audience was laughing at Jerry and Kramer. With Jerry Getting Annoyed , Then Jerry Later On Had Him on his Coffee in cars show and then Kramer shows up a few times or more in Curbs Seinfeld Reunion type season.

I was alive at the time! I use his old clips and clips from his newer work and movies. His comedy never changed while all his comedian friends developed and got better around him. Either way, the comedy is subjective, but the fact that he was 38 when he dated a 17 year old is not. That gets you a lifetime creep pass. That’s the real issue.

Plenty of comedy specials from the 80's and 90's still hold up today. Seinfeld's standup is rough to watch imo. The show worked because of the many talented people working on it and not because Seinfeld was a great standup. If you think about it, many of the most iconic moments from the show involve the other cast members and not him

Not an issue. You are not going to change the basic nature of man.
This issue is more complex and is going to take more to tease out and dissect than
neverending insults and accusations of creepiness. Did anyone do anything against
their will here? Was anyone harmed. Seriously - I don't know - I'm asking.
Both men and women given a choice and all things being equal, will choose a younger
lover, for physical attraction. I do think it is an issue, it distorts people's live and affects
all of us ... just ask Helen of Troy, but what are you going to do except recognize it and
try to talk about it until there is a resolution.
By the way, try to give this extreme Lefty lecture to some Muslims/Palestinians, they
have far more than creepiness inculcated deeply into their culture, so maybe you want
to bring this issue up with the extreme Left who seem utterly clueless.

Sounds like you're a victim of the today's school system which has a problem with literally everything. Seinfeld is great. People got together on Thursday's to watch it, along with Cheers, the Simpsons, etc. He is pretty funny if you have a sense of humor, which you obviously do not.

    • @hellion.vision
      @hellion.vision  20 днів тому +2

It's actually just that I don't like humor. It hurts me. Everytime I giggle at somethin, it reminds me of the sense of humor I'll never have. I also hate Thursdays. They remind me of my least favorite day of the week, Friday. Anyone trying to make me laugh on a thursday just triggers my woke sensibilities so I'd rather just trash Jerry and keep the world from laughing on Thursdays. Sorry you had to read all this and that none of it was funny. I learned how to complain from today's school system. Thoughts and Prayers. ❤

No, not speaking up about what they do is what enables predators. For any company or society to succeed you need leaders and followers. That's why every successful corporation has a boss and employees. They're not all equal. And that's also why statistically the marriages that are equal and don't have the man taking the lead have a much higher rate of divorce. On that Bear Grylls survival show when the men and women were separated in the woods, the men thrived while the women struggled because the men were the ones who established a hierarchy and chain of command. So, hate to tell ya, but for any society and company to survive, you need a clear hierarchy. History and statistics prove this.

People forget that his show was popular only during a big writer's strike. In fact this show was the first "unscripted reality" shows. Many at the time blamed him for breaking the strike and breaking the professional writers that used to make TV funny. And watchable.
He helped "vaporize the heirarchy" he laments the loss of. He is toxic to women. Not just the ones he lusts for but dismissed all female comics that might mention personal feelings.
