I met Walter back in 2020 at the NAMM Show and was totally stoked. I asked him if I could have a pic, he hesitated a second while reaching in his pocket and gave me one of his signature picks 😀And my dumb ass meant a selfie - glad he was so old school! Holding it dearly! AND got a selfie afterwards - coolest dude ever 😀and absolute shredder!
spooney I lived in the same town where he started singing with the country band. I remember the club, but I didn't like that kind of music at the time. Small world! Great interview for sure!
Thanks Lee for inviting Walter Trout onto your 'show'... What an inspiring man he is ! and... his musical skills speak for themselves... Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this revealing dialogue...
Beautifully explained with humility from Mr Trout. He is so sincere. Wonderful interview and so nice to see an interviewer who allows space. Thank you!
I came across Walter when i was on deaths door with intestinal failure. Since surgery and being fed directly into my bloodstream i now play the guitar and Walter has become a huge influence to my playing.
I saw John Mayall and Walter play in the late 80s. One of the best gigs ever. Mayall in those days was at his peak..fit, energetic..stood at a keyboard had a guitar slung over his back, harmonica holder and singing..pretty much did it all. Walter had to be good, or he wouldn't have been asked to Join..Mayall always finds the who's who of guitarists in every decade. living legend..seen him a few years ago..still doing it.
Thank to Walter for delivering one of the most honest, straightforward and constructive testimony ever. A huge thank you to Lee for putting him at ease and offering us such a tasteful moment . A nearly one hour well spent that sums up many aspects of on and off life. I'm just wondering which book Carlos Santana gave Walter to read ?
Without a doubt the best interview yet. He was so very candid with his crazy life. The man is a inspiration to every guitar player! And he can absolutely kill it on stage to this day. Cheers !
Was at a Walter Trout gig some years ago. At the end of the night he brought on Berne Marsden to jam . They played for 3/4 hour .Walter. played his original strat and Bernie his Les Paul..All in a village hall in Kettering.
Been seeing Walter for 30 years. When I saw him at Holmfirth 3 years ago, I couldn't see how he would get through the show without dying. I cried and cheered like never before. The man is a blues warrior. He has faced true adversity and kicked it up the arse. Never shy of coming out and talking to the fans after a show. Just a great great man. Thank you Walter and Fuck the American healthcare system that denied you what you needed. I always knew that you had the family and friends to help and your recovery has been inspiring. I know one day you and the strat will go make music with Jimmy again, but I want to see you a whole load more times before that !!!!
Walter - what a lovely open and honest man... Lee - what a superb interviewer to let his guests tell their story without constant interruption... Well done guys.
What a great guy, i have heard some guitar from Walter, but not so much, but boy this guy is amazing, a fantastic life, but an incredible player who made it through it all , best one to one the Captain has done
I was looking through CDs in the late 90s and came across this guy holding an old strat. Bought the album based on the cover alone. I have been a Walter Trout fan ever since 🎸
Very emotional for me! Walter is pure passion and in transcends in his music and even here in this interview! Almost like he was born again and has a new lease on life and living it to the fullest! I couldn't believe it when I saw Walter featured on your channel! I have so much more respect for you and the channel now! Not that you need my support but this is tremendous positive energy! Thanks to you and Walter! Cheers from Thunder Bay!
Not much playing, but it doesn't matter. This is a terrific interview. My step daughter had a liver transplant when she was just 19 so I could identify with this on an entirely different level.
I absolutely loved this interview. I met Walter back in the early 1990s through a mutual friend, the late Harmonica Manny. Walter was playing Perqs in Huntington Beach CA and Many insisted that I come down and check him out. I'm really glad I did. At the time, I didn't realize how lucky I was to be having a smoke break with the band in the ally between sets. I've been a fan ever since. I also had no idea of Walter's personal story. But as I will be sober 38 years this month, to say I relate would be an understatement. I should point out that the story of Carlos being Walter's Eskimo brought tears of joy to me. Good stuff! I want to thank Andertons for more inspiring and educational content. And thank Walter also. I had no idea at the time but meeting Walter and hearing his gift must have affected me. I got to play guitar at Perqs just this year. It totally brought back that memory from the 90s.
What a story and what a man. Deep respect for Walter and how he has managed his life and career and without a doubt "the captain meets" episode I have enjoyed the most. Thank you.
My attention span is getting shorter and shorter as the years go by but, I was absolutely glued to that. Excellent interview, I loved the red line on the rev counter analogy. Walter is an erudite and fascinating guy. What a life! I've seen him live many times, the man definitely puts everything into every solo, I love his honesty and no bullshit approach. A true blues legend in my book.
The introduction of the two guitars grabs your attention immediately! So cool seeing Mr Trout quickly roll back the volume on his guitar. Cool technique.
I’ve watched many captain meets videos, I’ve watched this one three times now. I think we have to acknowledge the quality of capt Lee doing the interview here. He’s very good at asking just the right question, whilst being tactful and always with plenty of integrity. It’s testament to his professionalism in these situations. Hats off. It’s fantastic. And Walter, what a player and a real personality for sure.
This was inspiring, Lee. Thanks so much. I'm honored that my band is opening for Walter this week in Cleveland. I've seen him live before, but am especially looking forward to this one! I knew some of his back story, but this was a real treat.
I discovered this guy about 2012, Blues for the modern Daze. He is now one of my all time favourite guitarists. BUT, what really stands out about this interview, is the skill of the interviewer. Yes Lee, you are up there with the greatest interviewers. Jonathon Ross, Graham Norton, even Parky could all have learnt from your expertise. Well done Sir, this goes down as a milestone in Andertons history. Much respect from someone who first purchased a PA system from Andertons in 1968...
I usually recall Walter's story when I'm in the low days... What an inspirational man, with a great sense of humour and still a big survival drive.. ...and I should watch spinal tap again.. and again.
Great interview. I've been a Walter Trout fan since I first saw him with Mayall 35 years ago. I knew of his near death saga but I had no idea of his history before Mayall. What a story! Someone needs to do a movie about his life while he is still around to play the soundtrack. I submit that you will NEVER find 2 co-lead players as great as Walter Trout and Coco Montoya with the Bluesbreakers. Seeing them live transcended guitar, blues, music of any kind, or art of any kind. The sound of Strat & Flying V, the emotion...it was just magic. Bless you Walter, play on!
i just happened upon this in Nov 2021 . I was trying to figure out Pray for Rain and saw this exceptional interview. What an incredible story of the various events of his life. Live long Walter !
Brilliant interview LOVE Walter Trout. He is a international BLUES treasure. I been watching a UA-cam for years and this will be one of my favourite interviews of all time. Praise the Lord that Walter is okay and that we are able to enjoy him.
This is what I mean. You can play blues with lots of gain. I love it. I love his way of playing and I just remembered I have his dvd. Utube kindve took over dvd watching for me.
Saw Walter for the first time in December 89 in Aarhus, Denmark. Played a 2 hour set, went off, came back on and played a 4 hour encore. Greatest blues gig I ever saw.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Walter Trout twice at the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Maine. Once before his liver trouble and then a few years after. What a great and revealing interview. Plus I knew about Jesse Ed Davis but had no idea that he played on all those famous songs. What a great chat. Plus Walter always plays like an absolute beast. Such energy and life and in his playing. The first time he was supposed to play in 2007 and was preceded by his friend, Coco Montoya. A nor'easter was blowing in, and almost blew over Coco! So they ended early before Walter. So he came back the very next year! He worked it out and we loved that. Then he came back a second time a few years after his liver transplant and played great again! His son joined him on stage and they both blew us all away! Super nice guy and an absolute talent!
Believe it or not, I saw Walter the first time live in the early 90´s at the Westerwaldgymnasium Altenkirchen, Germany, a small town somewhere in the nowhere. I´ll ever remember that evening, being 17or so. Until today I don´t know how my classmates managed to get Walter there, but he was there, played and changed the way I felt about music. Thanks for this, Walter!
Great interview! I donated money to help him out when he was going through his liver transplant. Impressive to see that he is now doing well. Makes me happy and proud to have help (a very tiny bit) keeping him with us!
This interview establishes beyond doubt that the format of "The Captain Meets" is pure documentary gold. What we get are first class oral histories from the musicians who have been the backbone of guitar music over the last fifty years. Great stuff Lee.
One of the best ones yet, Lee. Loved it. Big fan of Walter's work and it was great to hear a shout-out to Big Momma. Lots of affection for her. Amazing stories here. This dude has lived more in a decade than many of us have in a whole lifetime. Thanks, guys.
I've been a fan of Walter for around fifteen years now. Not only a master guitarist, but a brilliant singer songwriter as well. Saw him live when he was very ill, and I thought that was the last time I would see him play. Thank god he come through his liver transplant and he is now playing and singing as well as ever.
Great interview; Walter seems a lovely, down-to-earth guy. So pleased he got over his illness and I hope he continues in good health for many more years.
Yeah, it's fun to see it used for solo'ing.. I've always used it for more "funky" rhythm stuff like the intro to Superstition etc. (which I'd rather play on the middle position of a Tele, but you don't always have a Tele when someone wants to play the more funky stuff :-) )
So many things about Walter. First, his reference to Jesse Ed...he did mention Jesse Ed playing on the first three Taj Mahal records. He didn’t mention that it was his slide playing on TM’s Statesboro Blues that inspired Duane Allman to focus on slide. But to Walter...I had an opportunity to see Walter and his band at a small blues club in Atlanta probably ten or more years ago. I unashamedly stood right in front of Walter and watched...and listened...to this incredible artist. My ears rung for days, but it is still one of the best live performances I have ever seen. I have a photo of his ‘73 Strat being carried outside the club by his tech to be repaired during a set break after Walter had stripped the strap pin with his furious playing.
Born and raised in South Jersey and 23 yrs old how ironic. This is the awesome! Feeling inspired thanks Mr. Trout and Andertons keep up the quality videos \m/
i dont know if many people recognize how good of an interviewer lee is, he is up there with the best man, he got some natural talent, asking great insightful questions, and just listening and staying out of the way and not making the show about himself. he is very very good
Wonderful video, your best yet. I used to be a huge Walter Trout fan, but then went to a ‘bad gig’ one day. It put me off his music. He was grumpy on stage and the vibes were bad. That was 15 years or more ago, and I just quit listening to his music. I almost didn’t watch this video, but I’m so pleased I did. What a lovely guy, with all those wise stories. After a bit of a break, I’m a Walter Trout fan again, and I need to get my album collection up to date too. Great video.
I play blues (amateur) guitar and love blues guitarist and I never heard of Trout. I just watched this for no reason really. He is interesting and now I think this is something everyone should watch just for the insights. I think making a living JUST as a blue guitarist would be incredibly hard. So many to compare to and everyone just basically steals everyone else's licks and changes them a little. This is where you face your fears and go for it 100% and it worked for him.
WT is a phenomenal player!... I am highly envious of his childhood, it must have been great seeing all those legends... Years ago I saw him with John Mayall at the Egg in Albany NY... Fantastic show... Poppa Chubby opened for them, he's no slouch himself... I really enjoy these interviews! And as a recovering addict myself, I relate to and highly appreciate hearing the positives of these guys who hit bottom and turn their lives around for the better... I'm glad Carlos was there and humble enough to offer the help... It's inspirational.
I came across Battle Scars (cold cold ground and Gonna live again) when i was on my death bed back in 2019, purely just though browsing through Apple Music. Since being brought back from the brink being kept alive by being fed directly into my blood stream for the rest of my life and having to deal with multiple ongoing issues. I started to learn to play the guitar. Now Walter is a huge inspiration to me I am going to see him this year (2024 when he tours UK)
And for those that don't know... Walter followed Clapton and Beck in the Bluesbreakers. You really don't have to say any more than that. Nice to see him well again. Great play by Anderton's to get this guitar legend on the show. I saw him in Leeds, Irish centre two foot from the stage and he gave me his set list. Lovely genuine man. That night his Hammond bust a valve so he sent the guy to get a beer and said "Right, if we are going to be a power trio..." before breaking into an ad-hoc Cream set - the place went mental. Top stuff.
My first blues gig was to see Walter Trout at a small rugby club in England almost 20 years ago as a young teenager and was blown away... Lucky to see him again last year for the second time with Kris Barras and Johnny Lang. Great blues guitar player, true legend
Brilliant! Walter seems like a lovely guy and what a fantastic story, the life of a real working musician, will all it's ups and downs. A great watch. I saw him live in Middlesbrough town hall in about 98/99 and he blew my mind!
One of the most sincere and touching interviews I've ever seen.
One of your best interviews hands down.
spooney I lived in the same town where he started singing with the country band. I remember the club, but I didn't like that kind of music at the time. Small world! Great interview for sure!
I love the jam at the beginning. I keep coming back to watch this video just to listen to it! Awesome stuff.
And that is all because of Walter.
Absolutely!! WT is the man!
Thanks Lee for inviting Walter Trout onto your 'show'... What an inspiring man he is ! and... his musical skills speak for themselves... Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this revealing dialogue...
Great guest and probably the best “meets” yet. What a life and inspiration in adversity
Beautifully explained with humility from Mr Trout. He is so sincere. Wonderful interview and so nice to see an interviewer who allows space. Thank you!

Golden Bear Huntington beach
One of the TRUE remaining guitar heroes. Great interview Lee!! God bless Walter Trout!!!!
Thank to Walter for delivering one of the most honest, straightforward and constructive testimony ever. A huge thank you to Lee for putting him at ease and offering us such a tasteful moment . A nearly one hour well spent that sums up many aspects of on and off life. I'm just wondering which book Carlos Santana gave Walter to read ?
probably The Bible
Without a doubt the best interview yet. He was so very candid with his crazy life. The man is a inspiration to every guitar player! And he can absolutely kill it on stage to this day. Cheers !
Was at a Walter Trout gig some years ago. At the end of the night he brought on Berne Marsden to jam . They played for 3/4 hour .Walter. played his original strat and Bernie his Les Paul..All in a village hall in Kettering.
remember that, than after jamming, Walter played an acoustic

I was there, he looked so ill, amazed to see him now looking so amazing, great interview!
Yes, Mister Walter is my favorite blues man. Thanks
Very impressive! A very experienced, great musician speaks the truth about drugs, alcohol and music. Great interview!
Walter - what a lovely open and honest man... Lee - what a superb interviewer to let his guests tell their story without constant interruption... Well done guys.
Really was the best Captain meets.. Walter is the Man!
Best interview so far. The guy is a human being and a great blues player. They are connected.
Wasn't aware of Walter Trout until this video....my goodness, that opening jam was jaw dropping.
one of the best interview definitely, he badly need to release an autobiography.
He has, "Rescued From Reality. "

He does. I bought my copy directly from him after a show and he autographed it for me.
What a great guy, i have heard some guitar from Walter, but not so much, but boy this guy is amazing, a fantastic life, but an incredible player who made it through it all , best one to one the Captain has done
william mcmonagle I used to see him when he played in the house band in Huntington Beach, back in early nineties.
Never heard if this guy before, but I just checked out a random live concert, and holy shit he's the real deal!
Thank you Andertons, this was a fantastic, insightful and heartwarming interview. Walter Trout is the MAN.
I was looking through CDs in the late 90s and came across this guy holding an old strat. Bought the album based on the cover alone. I have been a Walter Trout fan ever since 🎸

Get John Mayall on before he's gone What a story he must have!
Absolutely! John Mayall never seems to get the love he deserves.
I'm with you the man's a legend
I could listen to Walter all day, talking or playing. Great job, Lee!
I absolutely loved this interview. I met Walter back in the early 1990s through a mutual friend, the late Harmonica Manny. Thanks Lee - this is the best musician interview series on the Internets!

I found a video from 87 with Him and Mayal and Choo Choo, then another vid of him again with Choo Choo 28 yrs later. Worth looking up.
This was inspiring, Lee. Thanks so much. I'm honored that my band is opening for Walter this week in Cleveland. I've seen him live before, but am especially looking forward to this one! I knew some of his back story, but this was a real treat.

Best interview ever. Walter Trout is a legend, god bless him and thank you Anderson’s for posting it.

OMG!! I couldn't click on this fast enough. Walter Trout a goddam living legend.
Great to see him in good health!
This is what I mean. You can play blues with lots of gain. I love it. I love his way of playing and I just remembered I have his dvd. Utube kindve took over dvd watching for me.
Great interview. Walter Trout is a monster guitarist.
27:28 that is a powerful testimony! That is a beautiful thing and I'm happy to hear his take on the drinking and drugs.
Thanks for a great interview!
Thanks for that interview, what an amazing guy and musician. One of the best ''Captain meets'' to date.
Saw Walter for the first time in December 89 in Aarhus, Denmark. Played a 2 hour set, went off, came back on and played a 4 hour encore. Greatest blues gig I ever saw.
What beautiful and powerful stories about becoming sober.
The BEST interview so far on this meets series ... so much depth and a roller coaster of emotions
Great. Always loved Walter. Proper old school guitar slinger. Not nearly as well known as he should be. Nice interview, Lee.
Apparently Walter Trout has released an album called _No More Fish Jokes_ and I love that title, it’s kind of ironic but also brilliantly named
Love Walter Trout I saw him live a few years ago at the Ottawa blues fest and he was fantastic!
Walter, you are a treasure. Thank you for the inspiration you provide.
What an amazing person and player❤️🎸
I've been a fan of Walter for around fifteen years now. Not only a master guitarist, but a brilliant singer songwriter as well. Saw him live when he was very ill, and I thought that was the last time I would see him play. Thank god he come through his liver transplant and he is now playing and singing as well as ever.
Great interview; Walter seems a lovely, down-to-earth guy. So pleased he got over his illness and I hope he continues in good health for many more years.
One of the best interviews yet, amazing guy.
Not only the best interview for you but the best interview by anybody on youtube!!
Internet: Middle pickup is useless
Walter Trout: Hold my beer
thanks you for make my monday a friday! great comment!
Good one. I dig it a lot too, actually, but it depends on the set. Not all strat sets have good middle pickups.
Cheers, bro'
Walter can make any pickups good. Now you know.
Yeah, it's fun to see it used for solo'ing..
I've always used it for more "funky" rhythm stuff like the intro to Superstition etc. (which I'd rather play on the middle position of a Tele, but you don't always have a Tele when someone wants to play the more funky stuff :-) )
For real lol nailed it!
could listen to walter all day, full of stories
What a genuine, honest, down to earth guy and for me one of the greats. Good bless and for the Captain, what an interviwer, so natural. Thx chaps!
So glad you guys have interviewed Walter :) He is an absolute legend.
So many things about Walter. First, his reference to Jesse Ed...he did mention Jesse Ed playing on the first three Taj Mahal records. THE GREATEST INTERVIEW EVER. TO COME BACK LIKE HE DID IS AMAZING AND SHOWS WHAT YOU CAN DO IN LIFE IF YOU NEVER GIVE UP.
What a life Walter has led. Great to see he's doing well and still killing it. Seen him in concert a few times and trust me it does sound loud!
Born and raised in South Jersey and 23 yrs old how ironic. This is the awesome! Feeling inspired thanks Mr. Trout and Andertons keep up the quality videos \m/
How did I miss this one! This guy is one of the greatest of all time. Great interview Cappy.!!!
Got to love Walter Trout. Chipping in for his new liver was some of the best money I ever spent.
This was an incredible episode, what a wild life Walter has had but what a player! ! 🎸😎
Best Captain Meets yet!!! I so look forward to Sunday.
Saw Walter Trout in Luxembourg with his superb band. Jawdropping and deeply honest blues. Thank you very much to these artists.
< happy to see him in such good health and spirit >
i dont know if many people recognize how good of an interviewer lee is, he is up there with the best man, he got some natural talent, asking great insightful questions, and just listening and staying out of the way and not making the show about himself. he is very very good
The last concert I attended before the pandemic was by Walter Trout. It was fantastic, I hope I return to Madrid :)
Simply thank you Walter and thank you Lee
Wow that jam at the beginning was freaking intense also captain held down the rhythm perfectly
Thank You for this Walter is a Hero and an Icon !
This is one of the greatest guitar player in the blues music!
One of the best and most honest interview ever!
this man needs to write a book
WT is a phenomenal player!... I am highly envious of his childhood, it must have been great seeing all those legends... Years ago I saw him with John Mayall at the Egg in Albany NY... Fantastic show... Poppa Chubby opened for them, he's no slouch himself... I really enjoy these interviews! And as a recovering addict myself, I relate to and highly appreciate hearing the positives of these guys who hit bottom and turn their lives around for the better... I'm glad Carlos was there and humble enough to offer the help... It's inspirational.
The best captain meets so far. Thank you Lee and the team.
Walter a truly warm friendly amazingly talented soul.
Top stuff.
Spartanm333. I'm certain that Jeff Beck was never in the Bluesbreakers. Clapton, Green, Taylor, Montoya, Trout, Whittington, yes. Jeff Beck no.
@@cliffwheeler7357 - apologies - he followed Eric in the Yardbirds, must engage brain and not post after 3 beers. :)
I honestly had no idea who this guy was when I clicked the video but I will definitely be checking him out. My favorite Captain interview.
My first blues gig was to see Walter Trout at a small rugby club in England almost 20 years ago as a young teenager and was blown away... Lucky to see him again last year for the second time with Kris Barras and Johnny Lang. Great blues guitar player, true legend
I love WT! He hangs a note like no other. Best explanation ever for not playing high.
Brilliant! Walter seems like a lovely guy and what a fantastic story, the life of a real working musician, will all it's ups and downs. A great watch.
I saw him live in Middlesbrough town hall in about 98/99 and he blew my mind!
This is without a doubt my favourite interview yet. Absolute classic!
Great interview. Clapton plays the Albert Hall, Walter plays pubs. It’s a crazy world. His autobiography is long overdue.
I'd love to read that too, it's gonna be a big book!
