Thanks for doing this video. I had not noticed this new intelligent flight mode after the last update. This will definitely be fun to play around with.
So.. does it pitch up when you pull back on the right stick and pitch down when you push forward? Does the left stick increase or decrease speed? If not, then its not really like a fixed wing 😐
Just curious, once you leave the fixed wing mode, do your C1 and C2 buttons revert back to what you had them set to before? also curious if maybe you tried to see if they brought back the left stick up to cancel an auto landing?
great video. is there anyway at all to use this controller with a different system? i would like to use it with actual fixed wing aircraft that have autopilot. thanks.
I'm curious is this IOS or Android ? it looks a lot like the old DJI Go app that's not supporting the Mavic anymore I do like the video gives me a good view and feel for what I can look forward to if I change firmware
Very cool! I flew this week using my Fatshark HD goggles. Amazing experience. I'm going to try this airplane mode, I guess I have to update the firmware to get it?
+Eduardo Fritis I envy you with the Fatsharks, and it will be a great experience in this fixed wing mode as the tilted horizon will give a great sensation of flight. Yes, must update to latest firmware and app. I know you use Android and it's out now for iOS but don't know with android. Happy flying!
The image on the goggles is out of this world! Thanks for the update! I'll let you know when I try it. Here we have had only liquid sun for two month! Rain and rain all the time!
You plug a Nvidia FIeld K1 8" tablet to the control with a USB cable to run the DJI go 4 and from the Tablet with a HDMI to the HDMI port on the Fatshark. That's it. Super easy. You need a USB battery to be charging the control since the control charges the Tablet during flight. The view is beyond believe clear, HD!
I don't own a Mavic but that's pretty snazzy. I Do own a few fixed wing aircraft and have outfitted some with FPV gear from my mini racing drones and that's practically what it looks like. The only difference is that the Mavic has MUCH better video quality than my FPV setup and with a nice pair of goggles I bet the view is great. The only advantage I have is possibly lower latency with my setup but if you aren't trying to fly between gates at some crazy speed and all that freestyle stuff in-between tiny openings I don't see it being that big of a deal. Nice video!
I've been flying rc planes before too, and also quad racing drones. People have hooked up Fatshark goggles to the Mavic and they say the video is amazing. Thanks for watching!
I have some headplays and now a new to me P4P, but of course, I have to spend money on a silly module for the transmitter to be able to plug in the headplays. Good thing it's only a 100 bucks.
What i did not like about that mode is that throttle/rudder is on the right stick. Dont know if i put controller stick on mode 3 i can then fly it normal with rudder/thr stick on the left side
What i experienced with fix wing mode, is thar thottle gets to mode 1 meaning that your up/down stick gets to your left thumb. I customize my controller stick to get fix wing mode to mode 2(ail/elevator) in right thumb. Gonna give it a try to see how it works
Thanks for the run down, I got the update yesterday. For me, I just wish DJI would concentrate on making the Android version of the app stable and actually work for a whole flight, rather than load the thing up with more (unnecessary) functions..... The latest app update 4.0.6 force closed my Sony Experia XZ mid flight and left my mavic to complete a Return To Home landing on its own!!! Heading out today to retest and hope it was a one off, otherwise, I have an expensive toy I can't use!
Looks like DJI figured out how sweet fixed wing drones are lol. Now they just need 20 + mile automated gps guided flight plans and 120 min+ flight times and they have my Parrot Disco. Oh and the fixed wing drone going 50mph + while in FPV is awesome trust me. Its gonna be super sweet when DJI comes out with those goggles. Fixed wing mode should be great with the goggles :) I want one!
This is the first video I have seen covering fixed wing. Good video.
+ChainsawDude Thanks, nice to hear that.
Thanks for doing this video. I had not noticed this new intelligent flight mode after the last update. This will definitely be fun to play around with.
+Dudley Warner It will best be enjoyed with goggles, but nice to see DJI adding some new features. Nice to hear you liked the video, thanks!
I tried it out yesterday. It's pretty cool.
Thank you so much for the info! Will update soon and try those out! Thanks!
acientkid It's a little scary...feels like a fly away. Make sure you're high and in an open area. Happy flying!
Cool video! small world, I went to CLU!
+Chris C Oh nice!
Explications très claires, je vais pouvoir tester, bravo beau boulot
Merci!
Thank you four your video I need to fly my drone to fix the wing mode sory I'm new thks
:39 Never ever fly with the camera cover on. Air must flow through the front to cool the Mavic. Not even for a short flight.
Thanks for posting the vid. Will definetly try it when in big area.
Nice vid thxs, but why would any 1 use this mode? I tho the mavic was goin tu pull up and circle backwards..
Thks 4 your video i try to fix wing mode and is apear the sticks on scrren what i need to do four this desapear thank you
Great video. Can't wait to try out this mode on our travels!
yeah just updated my mavic on this as well! cant wait to get a video on it :)
nice...now i just gotta wait for the sun to come up so i can try it out...looks fun
3DR APM has that function and it's been so long since available. It's called "drift mode". I fly my pixhawk in drift all the time.
So.. does it pitch up when you pull back on the right stick and pitch down when you push forward? Does the left stick increase or decrease speed? If not, then its not really like a fixed wing 😐
Thx! Another great demo.
This sounds fun! Gotta try it soon.. Nice and simple video!
Just curious, once you leave the fixed wing mode, do your C1 and C2 buttons revert back to what you had them set to before? also curious if maybe you tried to see if they brought back the left stick up to cancel an auto landing?
Does the front obstacle avoidance work still in this mode?
This is for the soon to be released Goggles for sure.
Awesome video👌👍
+AJ Alvarez Thanks, nice to hear that. Happy flying!
The gimbal is obviously locked in fixed mode
great video. is there anyway at all to use this controller with a different system? i would like to use it with actual fixed wing aircraft that have autopilot.
thanks.
+James Boaz Sorry, the controller only works for this specific drone. Thanks for watching!
Very cool!
Yes, it means the FPV goggles is coming.
My app is up to date but the Mavic doesn't show me that it needs to do an update. What do I do? DJI assistant 2 doesn't show me an update either
Nice idea, but a bummer they made it mode 1 control and have the up down reversed. If your an rc airplane guy you'll know what I'm talking about.
yep, until they fix that I'll avoid airplane mode. As a pilot I wonder what backwards airplane are they trying to emulate?
That's cool, just more options for being creative 👍
+neo Schwartz Yeah, definitely can see interesting use of the titled horizon in shots. Happy flying!
Yeah absolutely, thank you.
so if it just like flying a fixed wing airvrsft will it possible to do loop the loops etc
Will this work with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom or Pro?
I would love to hear from the group.
Sorry, just the original MP
Big thumbs up! Thanks for the video
+Robert Calloway Thanks! Nice to hear you liked the video. Happy flying!
My question is, how can your battery have so much time on it? Seems like 24 minutes after the end of the video looks high. Any tricks?
Marc Boekhorst No tricks. Didn't even notice that. I've got 50 or so flight on it too.
I'm curious is this IOS or Android ? it looks a lot like the old DJI Go app that's not supporting the Mavic anymore I do like the video gives me a good view and feel for what I can look forward to if I change firmware
iOS with DJI Go 4.
Great video.
+NanoVoltPro Thanks, nice to hear you liked it. Happy flying!

with the mavic?? How? :)

Oh yes forgot about the shield with the hdmi output. Bought myself a Nexus 7 for the Mavic but it doesn't have hdmi out! :)
Wish they would have left the Accel/decel on the left stick. Can you change it?
+Arthur Roy No options to change any of the flight controls.
Are you using mode1 -right stick throttle?
Mode1 vs Mode2?

Thank you for the information!
Can u make a 360 in fixed fly mode?
+NicoItaly Absolutely, just need to allow for a large area to complete the 360. Thanks for watching!
Will be nice to see it...try if u can and show it up! thanks for your work
Is there a way to fly fixed wing with a level horizon? Great tutorial!
What i did not like about that mode is that throttle/rudder is on the right stick.

Cool
need to able to change the controls on the radio so rc flyers can fly mode 2 or mode 1
+Raptor50aus Yes, that would be a nice option. Thanks for watching.

+Montana Mic Great comment! Yes, the goggles will be a great experience. I'm getting them, but hopefully they won't be too pricey. Happy flying!
CLU, TO, VC ❤️
I can only imagine what happens when the app crashes while you're flying in fixed wing mode.
+Tortoise010 Good point! I should test that but sounds risky.
Press the pause button ?
Bring the right stick down.
The Pause button on the controller should be your first instinct in case of any unexpected situations.
Yes. I hate iOS but for this reason i do all my drone work with iPad mini. 0 Crashes on DJI Goapp and 3DR Solo App. Android Crashes all the time
Why on earth would you want this firstly? Secondly alot of people are going to crash because they get mixed up.
