Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Other day mouth of raritan off the hook, we got into drop and reel porgy and weaks in 30' on 1oz metal with no tips. I was puzzled by how HOT the porgy catch was with no bait and too big of hooks yet we really almost missed no bites. The more I fish the less I use bait lol.
I run similar jigs for bsb in the cape and slay them. I run jigs from 40g-100g for them and do well. I dont feel the need to tip the hooks at all. I did have a bsb chase the jig to the surface and jump out of the water which I thought was cool.
Cool vid. I fish south Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico and have caught specks offshore on oil platforms while fishing for snapper and grouper in 175-200ft of water. Not surprising you caught a few deep.
Hey thanks for all your videos. I have used so many of your techniques here in South Georgia and been successful, so thanks for this new one and all the content.
I’m the winter time I catch specs on 20-30 feet of water all the time. It’s kind of a heat pocket with heat coming off of a bigass concrete wall that acts as a conductor, I wonder if the water near the reef could be a couple degrees warmer, they’re really sensitive to temperature down here in south Louisiana
First time halibut fishing off the west coast of Washington, we used the recommended rigs. A one pound bottom dragging ball of lead, a 3ft leader about 18 inches above the ball, and a large chunk of octopus. We drug these heavy A** weights most of the day until we each got our one-fish limit. With several hours left, I pulled out a piece of 3/4" copper pipe, 9" long, filled with lead, and a wire loop embedded into each end. A WIRE treble hook (the hooks will straighten because you will SNAG bottom) I was mocked and laughed at ($14 in mid 90's) until this jig at the bottom. Fish after fish after fish on every single drop! We had to take turns catching and releasing, because we wore ourselves out. From that day forward, we never went offshore without copper pipe jigs. We made them of various lengths and various diameters from 3/8 in to 1 in. From 4" in and length to 12" in length. Before the West Coast Lingcod population was decimated, a local told me that this is what the commercial fisherman used to catch lingcod. You should make some, or maybe somebody would supply you with some. Every species of fish in that ocean hit these lures. Pretty sure it had to do with positive ions because polished and coated with a lacquer or polyurethane turned them completely off. Shiny or corroded bare metal all worked the same.
Elias, was wondering if you had any thoughts about flounder gigging. Never got down to your area, but have spent some time in the outer banks. Heard quite a few locals tell stories about going out at night and gigging hundreds of flounder, often with the result that they couldn't even find the means to store most of it and just dumping the majority of the catch. Kind of solves the mystery of why they need to close the season now.
The major craft jigs you had also come in all sorts of lighter sizes 5 to 25g. The zebra glow and pink are two of my favorites. Colt snipers are really popular here for jigging too. Just add a split ring and assist hook to the top.
I havent seen a need for a swivel unless in deeper water with a strong current that results in the jig trailing behind the boat. When verticle, in a managable current, increasing jig weight and decreasing line diameter is my go-to approach. Less is more, but a small swivel is certainly an option.
Can i ask why do they remove the hook on the tail of the jig and retain the assist hook on the head only? Or should i retain the treble hoon ok the jig end? Any advice since im quite new to jigging. Im willing to listen and learn. Cheers
I've been slow pitch jigging for 6 years. Always offshore. I'd like to see someone slow pitch 20 to 40 ft, in a lake, bay, or inlet. I'd think it could work with 15g to 40g jigs. I've caught small Snapper, etc. in 50 to 60 ft but nothing shallower
I just picked up a jon boat with an electric old minn kota trolling motor, (got too tired of kayak paddling) I'm looking for tips on the skinny water of rhe Manasquan river - any tips for the next few cold months? Btw, if I ever see you in person I would ask for an autographed copy of my book I always carry "A Field Guide to Coastal Fishes: From Maine to Texas" even though you weren't the author, you sir are the authoritative master of catching these fish! Thanks for all you do, looking forward to hearing from you soon brother!
Enjoy all the info you pass along, Thanks. I do have a question about the boots you are wearing. What brand are they and where did you get them? When I was in Hawaii every fishing store carried them but here in Delaware I can't find any> Can you help me out?
Cracking video mate I’ll be trying out these slow jig over here in the UK for sure, we have a few similar species. I’ve never heard of putting rock salt on your squid strips - is that for flavour or to firm them up or something? 👍👍🐠🐟🐬
I've been watching for a few months now. It's awesome to see how much you love to fish. I'm a new angler. And every time you throw back a fish it kills my soul. j/k not j/k. Good stuff man
Hey Elias, tipping the jig with squid can affect the balance of a butterfly/flat fall jig. Balance for that type of jig is very important as it affects the flutter motion that the jig has on the fall. Its actually really effective and can be used in a variety of situations. The flutter on the free fall (downward motion) is supposed to mimic an injured bait fish :) The flutter is very cool it doesn't rotate but instead if its a quality/well balanced jig it should sink shimmying side to side like a falling leaf. If you have time check out butterfly/flat fall jigs made by Shimano.
Yeah, I agree adding the squid isn’t the best presentation and will throw the jig off. However I wasn’t sure what would be available to catch this time of year. Primarily smaller black drum + tautog tend to be the main game in town for winter. Didn’t want to go out there and get the royal skunk (was close to it)
Hes not threatened. half its mouth ripped off. lol true northeast guy love it. Hey do uthink this method would work for fluke up here or just stick to gulp
The needle jigs get down quickly, usually need a faster action on the lift. The wider, flatter jigs you have are true slow pitch, more flutter on the drop, stay in the strike zone longer. Nice to see new techniques, worked great. 👏
50 feet is pretty deep I go rock fishing all the time in shallow water and catch fish all the time but I’ll also go in 300 to 350 and catch nothing so it really depends what the bottom is like.
Just wondering about your issues with the sonar unit is it the exposure to salt water that causes the problem or is it something else. I haven't experienced this with my unit it I only have access to freshwater here in the Midwest. I love your videos and am considering getting some of your swimbaits to use for musky and northern pike this coming spring.
Another great video with alot of things to comment about. I think that was the first time you got snagged and put it on a video. How long do you try to get it out before you break it? I think I try too long. You are a maestro with that jigging rod. I've been getting better every year since I started watching your videos. People comment on how good I am now. Now I have things to put on my christmas list for stocking stuffers. Thanks.
Nice content man, and funny story, I was fishing one time in the Long Island sound with a slow pitch jig, and I hooked like a 20 pound bluefish and ripped my line, man wish I had him ha good luck out there
Hi Elias!! Now this was an awesome video and really enjoyed this video. So did you clean and cook up that octopus? I know you ate those trouts lol. I wish I was down there fishing with you.

I say it 100 times and you are the best kayak fisherman I have ever met. My respects to you
Other day mouth of raritan off the hook, we got into drop and reel porgy and weaks in 30' on 1oz metal with no tips. I was puzzled by how HOT the porgy catch was with no bait and too big of hooks yet we really almost missed no bites. The more I fish the less I use bait lol.
I would smash the bottom on purpose depending on the target species sometimes, kicking up sand has been used by divers to attract fish for decades
First trip with slow pitch jigs in the Gulf this summer landed about 13 grouper.
I run similar jigs for bsb in the cape and slay them. I run jigs from 40g-100g for them and do well. I dont feel the need to tip the hooks at all. I did have a bsb chase the jig to the surface and jump out of the water which I thought was cool.
Nice video, slow pitch jigs like that are what I mainly use, they are really popular here in New Zealand

It's amazing ...
I love light jigging 👍

You look like a nice humble guy, gonna subscribe, nice vid btw mate.

good strike bro nice fishing spot and congrats
for the good catch amazing happy fishing to
you an always keep safe tynx for sharing
hey elias i got my order on the mail yesterday thanks my man your bait looks so great hopefully i can go out this weekend

We need an Elias tuna jigging in the kayak video. Give us what we need Elias!

Great video Eli! Thanks for the info that really looked like it paid off.
Good fishing frend..strike good size..i like to see...enjoy you fishing
I remember you catching those deep trout last season. Good stuff.
You can catch anything on those Nomad lures. Everything eats them!
Enjoy all the info you pass along, Thanks. I do have a question about the boots you are wearing. What brand are they and where did you get them? When I was in Hawaii every fishing store carried them but here in Delaware I can't find any> Can you help me out?
Hello man, I have question regarding spinning, can I use a 30/60 grammes rod with a 15 grammes surface lure ?
Try giving the jigs a bit longer of a rise then fall. You'll get better action out of them compared to shorter snappier jerks.
Nice! Literally exactly what I wanted to see:)
Hey mate.
Manoli from Australia 🇦🇺, great video mate.
I’ve been using these the last few years. I catch just about every species on these types of jigs. They also work great from shore as well.
I primarily use these too. I like to see how many varieties I can catch on the same jig.
Cracking video mate I’ll be trying out these slow jig over here in the UK for sure, we have a few similar species. I’ve never heard of putting rock salt on your squid strips - is that for flavour or to firm them up or something? 👍👍🐠🐟🐬
Man I think you should use these jigs over a few seasons and maybe those trout will always be there !
Great videos. Just curious what beach or town are you generally fishing. Not looking for specifics. Lol. Thanks
Try duo drag metal jigs :) they're insanely good and ofc major craft jigs. Those Japanese jigs are one of the best in the market.
They also work from shore 😉
And I just noticed you used major craft jigs haha glad you loved em
Beautiful video I enjoyed all your explanations ..Gam, I subscribed to your channel
Everybody loves raymond goes fishing.😆
Hi thanks for the vid. Q: do we use a floater and lead sinker in the line when we fish with jigs.
I've been watching for a few months now. It's awesome to see how much you love to fish. I'm a new angler. And every time you throw back a fish it kills my soul. j/k not j/k. Good stuff man
Man I love your videos, Slayed the Specs in this one! Hope they taste as good as they look !
Another awesome video and good info on the jigs you were useing! Keep up the good work 👍🏾
Super Elias 👏👏👏👏💪🏻👑
What if using slow jig on a fast rod? Is it doable? Thanks..
Can you tell me where you were fishing? SW Florida?
the collection of jigs is great friends 👍
Are you fishing over structure and if so , what type ?

JigPara Slow Jig is a very good lure yeah !

Yeah. First go - I’ll try to pick up the understandings of shapes a bit better as I go.
50 feet is pretty deep I go rock fishing all the time in shallow water and catch fish all the time but I’ll also go in 300 to 350 and catch nothing so it really depends what the bottom is like.
Wow... oh my gosh... give me a flowderbfish Sir... deep fry... man that a good fish...👍👍👍👍
Very interisting..saya berharap bisa seperti anda bermain jigging 👍🙏
What type of reel are you using?
Would u be able to fast retrieve these with a treble like an epoxy jig?
they’re more of a jigging lure
Yea

Can I use a vertical jigging rod to slow pitch?
Just a great day out on the Yak! Good work!
Gotta love the reel seat
Catch and Cook Octopus, or at least your favorite recipe for cooking octopus?
Another great video with alot of things to comment about. I think that was the first time you got snagged and put it on a video. How long do you try to get it out before you break it? Are the Crippled Herring Jensen jigs?
Good job.👌👍
::hooks blue marlin::
“Big toadfish?” 😂
Nice video..
Thanks for great info..
From Malaysia..
Tentacles from octopus are the best bait for gripper and red snaper.and the internal best bait for all fish
Nikos and Rex gripper....internal....what are you trying to say!?
Gruper fish sorry, and the internal organs from the octhapus are top bait, you need to remove carefule
Imagine trying to vertical jig with a fly fishing rod, that would be one hell of a fight
Wow ,, amazing 🎣🎣🎣
Good jig fishing Mr 👍
Y’all using regular rods with these jigs? Medium fast or xfast?
Nice content man, and funny story, I was fishing one time in the Long Island sound with a slow pitch jig, and I hooked like a 20 pound bluefish and ripped my line, man wish I had him ha good luck out there
Nice fishing spot
are you jigging wih metal jig and bait (tentacle) ? good job angler
What did you salt the bait squid?
Why did you return that sole?
The water is calm are the majority of your catches on slack tides?
Hey Elias, are you fishing back in Wilmington area again. Been thinkin about taking my boat out and dropping some jigs. Nice vid brother.
I've been craving spaghetti with octopus, and then I watched you in this video land an octopus. Man, you made me hungry.
I know they're delicious but man... I could never kill one since they're so intelligent.
@@TheTurbineEngineer In California we have a species called the 2 ring octopus, they only live for 2 years so I don’t feel too bad killing them.
I bet those deep water specks taste amazing.
So let get this right I can only used this lure if I have a kayak ??
Or I can used this lure for surf fishing by the beach??🙃🤔
I dont think they are for casting. I guess cant hurt to try casting out and bouncing it back
Eli, you have to take a trip to one of the islands and fish. You don't need a fish finder you damn new can sight fish the entire time.
I love your lure, beautiful, but I also love maxcatch fly tying, really good
👍👍👌
Ever tried shimano lucanus?
Hi Elias!! Now this was an awesome video and really enjoyed this video. So did you clean and cook up that octopus? I know you ate those trouts lol. I wish I was down there fishing with you.
How are you going to cook that octopus, E? If it’s going to be different than the last one, I hope you will video it.
Hey Elias why are you fishing with these vs soft plastics? Just trying different stuff?
Very nice bro 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Octopus's Garden Nice !!!
This video is awesome
Reel seat is the best! They give me discounts since I work on a party boat
When do they announce opening date for flounder? Haven't found it..

What measuring board do you recommend? Looking for something for my kayak for sea bass, fluke, Tog and whatnot here off MV
Nice video brother 🙏🙏🙏
Fish on...👍👍👍
Nice catches, would be really cool to see an octopus catch and cook man! 😁
Chricke he did one earlier this year I think. Look back through his library.
