It's just so heartbreaking for the folks in Gardiner. I stayed in Gardiner at The Roosevelt my last visit to Yellowstone three years ago. Great location for visiting the park. The park's original entrance, the Roosevelt Arch, is located there. I hope it's okay and doesn't have damage from the flooding.
Everyone has memorable moments of YNP. When I was 4 we were camping and woke up to a foot of snow in August. The bears got into our cooler and it is where I learned to whistle! ( I am 65 now)Thanks for your reports and we will keep praying for all involved in this flooding.
Hello from East Tennessee. My son works at Yellowstone in sustainability. He said he was ok where he was at but it was bad in the north of the park. I really like your videos keep us informed. Stay safe
Cooke City is open and accessible via Chief Joseph. Many of the business are running very limited times because of the lack of access from the park. To many people are saying we are completely cut off, which is not true.
Hey thanks for the great inside reporting! Much appreciated. Using an old wagon Trail? You might be surprised. Some years back in California when they had a major landslide over I 80 they re-installed the pony express for mail, and it worked quite well. People kind of laughed at it at first but when they found out how quick they really were and how much easier made life for the people that were trapped behind this landslide and they didn’t laugh so much anymore. So food for thought. Keep up the good work and again thank you for the reporting and you helped me understand what was going on and I’m blind. That was the best "inside" reporting on the situation out there! I was out there with my wife and two teenagers around July Fourth last summer and we stopped into Lake General Store and ate lunch in front of Lake Yellowstone during a thunderstorm. Our prayers go out to everyone impacted by this!
I worked at Grant Village in ‘84 so am glued to anything Yellowstone! Great update on the current conditions! It’s my dream to come back to work there in my retirement (and live in my own RV of course). I ❤️ Yellowstone! I hope you all get through this flooding ok!!
Those old wagon trails can still be useful by military vehicles. You'd be amazed at where a 6x6 five ton truck can go. Those could be used for resupply if things get bad.
It is not a wagon trail. It has been used as a bike trail and one way vehicle traffic for years. You could drive a Prius on it. It is not wide enough for two way traffic and it does not have a heavy traffic road base. I would bet good money the eventual north route will be through parts of it if not all of it.

Great reporting & using the map to give people an idea of where the damage is in relation to Yellowstone Park as a whole as well as some of the surrounding areas. In 1975 we visited Yellowstone coming in thru the northeast entrance from Red Lodge.
I live just outside of red lodge and they have people volunteering to fill sand bags to keep the water from rising, I check in often and it seems to be receding. Highway 308 is open from red lodge going to Cody Wyoming. The national guard is blocking some roads, and also directing traffic. Stay safe everyone! My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who have lost their homes. We will overcome this.
Your map tour was very informative. I really appreciated the detailed information. I had no idea how much the road destruction will affect some of those people.

I watched a park webcast yesterday and you should be prepared for some restrictions if you keep your reservations. They talked about limiting the number of visitors, permits to be on the loop road, etc.

My husband and I took a trip out there a couple of years ago. My doctor, who goes there a couple times a year, told me to take the side roads when you see the brown signs on the side of the road. So the first one we came to on our first day, we saw a bear. We never got to see any moose or wolves, but we saw tons of other animals. It was a great trip. I hope to get back some day.

Cindy: Good luck with Convid 19, I'm afraid Yellowstone will only end up being on your bucket list permanently. These fires and floods are being done deliberately through weather modification programs and cloud seeding in the skies by the globalists. Lassen in California is also on fire (deliberately set on fire). They want everyone in prison, no traveling for anyone. Kinda like a new lock down and its just going to keep getting worse as we move forward.
My boyfriend and I cycled here (we are currently in West Yellowstone) from Southern California and the park shut down the very morning we were supposed to ride in. So sorry for all of those who lost everything. Thanks for the update!

First time here to your site. Just terrific. Came down to Yellowstone in 2013 from Ontario Canada. We were just there for the day as a family while road tripping across USA and then into Alberta Canada. June of that year, the day before we left Ontario, the Trans Canada Hwy was completely washed out thru sections of Alberta. Rather then cancel, we re-routed ourselves and went down and across US and then hoped after 10 days repairs would make it passable for us to continue on to BC. It was and we did 🙂 Thank you so much for your 'shout-out' to get help/assistance to all concerned in the areas devastated and crippled by this major weather event. I've subbed. Great updates. Left Flagg Ranch, June 1. after a nurse at Lake Village convinced me that I have a oxygen levels problem with elevation. We had to back track with our trailer to Riverton Wy

Have not been there since Summer ‘74 when 7 of us rode horses from Wind Rivers to South Glacier Park … that inlcuded along the east side of the park resupplying at Cody and then Gardner … and then along Galletin Range tops where it snowed in late August. Amazing memories as a 24 year old! Especially when our horses suddenly bolted side ways 100 miles an hour upon being down wind from some buffalo LOL … and the mosquitoes & horse flies on the remote east side were the most nasty intense we encounted all Summer. That trip inspired me to move from Alta Utah to Bozeman in 1978 while it was still a tiny town without a strip. Again, thanks so much for this great report and am with you in your awe of such mind blowing country! Will never forget skiing Tetons for a week either!

Hey Todd. The last time I was in Yellowstone i was 8. We stayed in the Fishing Bridge campground. Yellowstone is my favorite of all the national parks. We saw a moose swimming across the lake. I’m 66. I wish I could be there right now.
I remember the cabins at Fishing Bridge, and the ‘General Store’… heck I’ve even fished off of fishing bridge multiple times… can’t do that anymore… I also remember ‘bear jams’ (traffic jams caused by bears blocking the road begging for food with their cubs!)… growing up the design of the trash bins in the park kept changing as they tried to create a trash can the bears couldn’t get into… they would think they had the problem solved…but then the bears would figure it out and the process would start over again!
Yes sir you are very correct about temps in Cody, 85 today and forecasting 93 for tomorrow. Traveled to Cody to work for the summer first time. The town is very busy, lots of things to keep you busy for many days, least of which is the Rodeo every evening 🐎 , but lots of disappointed visitors because of the current park closure. 'You can't fight mother nature'
I am so thankful for this update. I lived in Livingston as a child , visited Yellowstone many times. I just knew it affected that area I so loved. Prayers for all.
I visited Yellowstone in 2018. What an awesome park! I saw a zoom(?) conference call with the Yellowstone Superintendent the other day. I think it was broadcast by a local TV station and posted on YT. The superintendent seemed very pessimistic with regard to the road between Mammoth and Gardiner. He mentioned they might abandon the existing road and build a new road away from the Yellowstone river. I assume for both structural/infrastructural reason and also for ecological reasons to keep the roadway away from the river. But either way (repair existing road, or build a new one), its going to take a long time, and I assume a solution won't be done this year.

So sorry for all those folks the flooding has impacted their livelihoods. Thank you for the specific update on the park, You can't get anything as detailed from the national news organizations. Keep up the good work and counting on allowing tourist in to the undamaged parts of the park. Hope you can get footage of some of the damaged areas later as the water recedes. Mother nature is all powerful.
My sister and family lives in Billings. We have visited all the towns that were badly flooded. We send out prayers for their recovery. Our community is cleaning up from being hit by a tornado so we know how devastating their losses are.
The Old Gardiner Road is not an old wagon trail. It's a road. It's not paved, but it's not so primitive. They are already working to improve it so that they can move supplies and personnel. Regardless, they'll figure out how to get supplies in. Even if they can't use it, it's a three-hour drive around to the west gate, which isn't unthinkable.
Thanks for the info. Really great to have your channel to rely on for information. I have reservations at the Lake Hotel 2nd week in Sept. I live in Salt Lake and I have family coming out from Ohio/Indiana to see Yellowstone for the first time. We will only have 3 days in the park so was planning to stay in the southern portion anyway . . . so, hoping they can figure out how to get supplies in at least for the lower park before then. Funny thing for us is that the last time we had family out from back east to see Yellowstone was summer '88!

Yes. The Old Yellowstone Road from Gardiner to Mammoth is a dirt road, high in the hills. It wouldn’t be able to handle much traffic. Maybe a supply road but not a main tourist route.
I’ve been enjoying your updates after finding your channel a few days ago. We live up on Flathead lake and we spent last week in Glacier Park. Floods were being predicted for this week and compared to Yellowstone, they’ve been relatively minor. Back in 1964 there was similar flooding in West Glacier, the main entrance to park. The road and bridge were destroyed and I don’t remember how long it took to rebuild, but it definitely took some time. Take care and thank you for your reports.

I took that stage coach road once a number of years ago. I think I got on it somewhere behind the hotel or the general store in Mammoth . It was a nice drive, overlooking Gardiner at one point from high up. The road ended near the park entrance booth--still inside the park, I think.

Great information, thank you so much! We are supposed to be in Yellowstone all next week, so I really appreciate the updates. You are very easy to listen to, and your knowledge of the park makes it simple to understand the areas of such an enormous park. I am really upset with the washouts as this was supposed to be a once in a lifetime vacation for us so I hope they allow visitors in at least some of the park before we are out of the area, but it is what it is, and I am really glad that everyone affected is safe.
Prayers for affected communities and all who are working to get things at least to safe healthy and workable. Thanks for the updates. We have reservations for September but will likely cancel as it just may be difficult. Will try for next year or so.
Very unfortunate to hear of the damage to the infrastructure in the park. Visited Cody, Cooke City, Silver gate and Red Lodge 6 years ago and loved it. Chief Joseph and Bear Tooth were awesome rides. Was planning on returning this summer. Will look in to support for those towns recovery.
Todd, I have (had) reservations in Mammoth hotel in late August. Received a letter from Xantera lodging canceling all reservations both Tower and Mammoth for the rest of the season. Hopefully the reservations for the Lake cabins will stay intact. Thanks for the updates and maybe we will see you in August.
Per the conference call I was on today at 9:30 AM with Park superintendent Cam Sholly, The upper loop of the park including Mammoth is closed for the rest of the summer, The lower loop is likely to open next week. There is talk of having odd even license plate days for entry into the park That would not apply if you have written reservations for stays on the lower loop
Really enjoy your videos and appreciate all the information. I once did a Backroads Bicycle tour of the park. 6 days of cycling thru the park, up and over the continental divide, it was fabulous. Would love to go back to the park some day!
I have been visiting Yellowstone, my favorite National Park since I was a kid more than 70 year ago. I've visited at least 20 times. We have plans to visit in mid July. All laundry is out of Gardiner, worked in Roosevelt summer of 91 , drove through Mammoth to Gardiner every morning with laundry , picked up restaurant supplies in Mammoth on the way back. Heart breaking to see all the washouts.
Great job and reporting. So sad to see that part of Yellowstone flooding. We stayed last year in June on the West side when we drove back to our rental house there was an accident so had to drive all the way up to Bozeman that took like 3 hours yes definitely understand the drive is crazy and you can't do a U-Turn easily.
Thanks for the update. They could always fly supplies in. Amphibious planes could use the lakes, vehicles could take the cargo and deliver it. That won't work for gasoline, but for other things, it would work.✌️😺
Just behind the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel is the "Old Gardiner Road" which was the original North Entrance Road. It's a single lane, one way road starting from just behind the Mammoth Hotel exiting at the North Entrance Station where you pay to enter the park. It's not always open but I've found it to be in good shape when open on high ground not affected by streams or rivers. I'm sure the park service will use it as an option to supply Mammoth. It's 4 miles long and was replaced, not sure when, by the current road that was washed out that parallels the Gardner River through Gardner Canyon.
I saw snow in Yellowstone on June 15, 1994. I'm from Alabama and we packed shorts and no pants so we have pictures in the snow in Yellowstone of us in sweatshirts and shorts. Ha ha.

I’m 66. We had an aluminum cooler with a lock. The bears opened it and ate all the bacon but left everything else. I hope I visit YNP again.

My boyfriend and I cycled here (we are currently in West Yellowstone) from Southern California and the park shut down the very morning we were supposed to ride in. So sorry for all of those who lost everything. Thanks for the update!

We are a traveling medical professionals family and we are actually moving to Worland Wyoming in around 2 weeks. Being in yellow stone as often as possible was the goal with it being only an hour and a half from Cody.

First time here to your site. Just terrific. Came down to Yellowstone in 2013 from Ontario Canada. We were just there for the day as a family while road tripping across USA and then into Alberta Canada. June of that year, the day before we left Ontario, the Trans Canada Hwy was completely washed out thru sections of Alberta. Rather then cancel, we re-routed ourselves and went down and across US and then hoped after 10 days repairs would make it passable for us to continue on to BC. It was and we did 🙂

Great updates. Left Flagg Ranch, June 1. after a nurse at Lake Village convinced me that I have a oxygen levels problem with elevation. We had to back track with our trailer to Riverton Wy

Have not been there since Summer ‘74 when 7 of us rode horses from Wind Rivers to South Glacier Park … that inlcuded along the east side of the park resupplying at Cody and then Gardner … and then along Galletin Range tops where it snowed in late August. Amazing memories as a 24 year old! Especially when our horses suddenly bolted side ways 100 miles an hour upon being down wind from some buffalo LOL … and the mosquitoes & horse flies on the remote east side were the most nasty intense we encounted all Summer. That trip inspired me to move from Alta Utah to Bozeman in 1978 while it was still a tiny town without a strip. Again, thanks so much for this great report and am with you in your awe of such mind blowing country! Will never forget skiing Tetons for a week either!

Hey Todd. The last time I was in Yellowstone i was 8. We stayed in the Fishing Bridge campground. Yellowstone is my favorite of all the national parks. We saw a moose swimming across the lake. I’m 66. I wish I could be there right now.
I remember the cabins at Fishing Bridge, and the ‘General Store’… heck I’ve even fished off of fishing bridge multiple times… can’t do that anymore… I also remember ‘bear jams’ (traffic jams caused by bears blocking the road begging for food with their cubs!)… growing up the design of the trash bins in the park kept changing as they tried to create a trash can the bears couldn’t get into… they would think they had the problem solved…but then the bears would figure it out and the process would start over again!

Yes sir you are very correct about temps in Cody, 85 today and forecasting 93 for tomorrow. Traveled to Cody to work for the summer first time. The town is very busy, lots of things to keep you busy for many days, least of which is the Rodeo every evening 🐎 , but lots of disappointed visitors because of the current park closure. 'You can't fight mother nature'

I saw a zoom(?) conference call with the Yellowstone Superintendent the other day. I think it was broadcast by a local TV station and posted on YT. The superintendent seemed very pessimistic with regard to the road between Mammoth and Gardiner. He mentioned they might abandon the existing road and build a new road away from the Yellowstone river. I assume for both structural/infrastructural reason and also for ecological reasons to keep the roadway away from the river. But either way (repair existing road, or build a new one), its going to take a long time, and I assume a solution won't be done this year.

So sorry for all those folks the flooding has impacted their livelihoods. Thank you for the specific update on the park, You can't get anything as detailed from the national news organizations. Keep up the good work and counting on allowing tourist in to the undamaged parts of the park. Hope you can get footage of some of the damaged areas later as the water recedes. Mother nature is all powerful.

My sister and family lives in Billings. We have visited all the towns that were badly flooded. We send out prayers for their recovery. Our community is cleaning up from being hit by a tornado so we know how devastating their losses are.

The Old Gardiner Road is not an old wagon trail. It's a road. It's not paved, but it's not so primitive. They are already working to improve it so that they can move supplies and personnel. Regardless, they'll figure out how to get supplies in. Even if they can't use it, it's a three-hour drive around to the west gate, which isn't unthinkable.
Thanks for the info. Really great to have your channel to rely on for information. I have reservations at the Lake Hotel 2nd week in Sept. I live in Salt Lake and I have family coming out from Ohio/Indiana to see Yellowstone for the first time. We will only have 3 days in the park so was planning to stay in the southern portion anyway . . . so, hoping they can figure out how to get supplies in at least for the lower park before then. Funny thing for us is that the last time we had family out from back east to see Yellowstone was summer '88!

Yes. The Old Yellowstone Road from Gardiner to Mammoth is a dirt road, high in the hills. It wouldn’t be able to handle much traffic. Maybe a supply road but not a main tourist route.
I’ve been enjoying your updates after finding your channel a few days ago. We live up on Flathead lake and we spent last week in Glacier Park. Floods were being predicted for this week and compared to Yellowstone, they’ve been relatively minor. Back in 1964 there was similar flooding in West Glacier, the main entrance to park. The road and bridge were destroyed and I don’t remember how long it took to rebuild, but it definitely took some time. Take care and thank you for your reports.

I took that stage coach road once a number of years ago. I think I got on it somewhere behind the hotel or the general store in Mammoth . It was a nice drive, overlooking Gardiner at one point from high up. The road ended near the park entrance booth--still inside the park, I think.
Thank you for all your updates. Makes more sense when you show us on a map. Lamar Valley is/was spectacular!! (We watched a bear and wolf fight over a dead bison for about 3 days!! Super cool!) The north part of the park will be spectacular again…. soon!!

Per conference call this morning 6/16 at 9:30 AM with Park superintendent Cam Sholly, The south i.e. the lower loop with entrances from West Yellowstone , Jackson or Cody is likely to open next week with odd even license plate days for entry. Upper loop is closed for the remainder of the summer
@@shill3282 what about the people who have lodging reservations, can they go inside on their first day of reservation? I have a reservation at canyon lodge from 27th. Do you have the recording of the conference call by any chance? Also did they talk anything about Canyon Village?
Great information, thank you so much! We are supposed to be in Yellowstone all next week, so I really appreciate the updates. You are very easy to listen to, and your knowledge of the park makes it simple to understand the areas of such an enormous park. I am really upset with the washouts as this was supposed to be a once in a lifetime vacation for us so I hope they allow visitors in at least some of the park before we are out of the area, but it is what it is, and I am really glad that everyone affected is safe.
Prayers for affected communities and all who are working to get things at least to safe healthy and workable. Thanks for the updates. We have reservations for September but will likely cancel as it just may be difficult. Will try for next year or so.
Very unfortunate to hear of the damage to the infrastructure in the park. Visited Cody, Cooke City, Silver gate and Red Lodge 6 years ago and loved it. Chief Joseph and Bear Tooth were awesome rides. Was planning on returning this summer. Will look in to support for those towns recovery.

Todd, I have (had) reservations in Mammoth hotel in late August. Received a letter from Xantera lodging canceling all reservations both Tower and Mammoth for the rest of the season. Hopefully the reservations for the Lake cabins will stay intact. Thanks for the updates and maybe we will see you in August.

Really enjoy your videos and appreciate all the information. I once did a Backroads Bicycle tour of the park. 6 days of cycling thru the park, up and over the continental divide, it was fabulous. Would love to go back to the park some day!

I have been visiting Yellowstone, my favorite National Park since I was a kid more than 70 year ago. I've visited at least 20 times. We have plans to visit in mid July. Your videos are actually the best info I have been able to find on updates. Thank you. We have reservations for the cook out. Simply hoping and praying.
All laundry is out of Gardiner, worked in Roosevelt summer of 91 , drove through Mammoth to Gardiner every morning with laundry , picked up restaurant supplies in Mammoth on the way back. Heart breaking to see all the washouts.

Great job and reporting. So sad to see that part of Yellowstone flooding. We stayed last year in June on the West side when we drove back to our rental house there was an accident so had to drive all the way up to Bozeman that took like 3 hours yes definitely understand the drive is crazy and you can't do a U-Turn easily.

Thanks for the update. They could always fly supplies in. Amphibious planes could use the lakes, vehicles could take the cargo and deliver it. That won't work for gasoline, but for other things, it would work.✌️😺
Just behind the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel is the "Old Gardiner Road" which was the original North Entrance Road. It's a single lane, one way road starting from just behind the Mammoth Hotel exiting at the North Entrance Station where you pay to enter the park. It's not always open but I've found it to be in good shape when open on high ground not affected by streams or rivers. I'm sure the park service will use it as an option to supply Mammoth. It's 4 miles long and was replaced, not sure when, by the current road that was washed out that parallels the Gardner River through Gardner Canyon.

I saw snow in Yellowstone on June 15, 1994. I'm from Alabama and we packed shorts and no pants so we have pictures in the snow in Yellowstone of us in sweatshirts and shorts. Ha ha.
