Sumners one of the most underrated guitarists. His simplicity is what makes it so good in my opinion.
Why oh why does every musician have to be described as *underrated* on UA-cam
🤦♂
@@paulph12002 well as someone who has played guitar for many years, and taking lots of lessons and played with lots of different people, i can say from my experience that calling bernard sumner one of my fav guitarists has gotten lots of head scratches and questions.

Because you're into a lot of underrated music
One of the greatest albums ever turns 40. Happy Birthday. Still miss Ian & Martin Hannet.
and Rob Gretton.
It’s alreet. It’s not spectacular or summut. It’s ok with the drum machine. Ian was a trampoline for this bands future. It’s a fecking business. ☝️💚🎧
@starkravingnormal "broken troubled Earth" Cheer up. You've been od'ing on Joy Div? I find them positive!
@@djdoolittle1315 delusional
And Tony Wilson
Little did these 20-some year olds know they had just recorded their magnum opus, a timeless classic.
O
@rahul dio It's a coinflip to be honest, but to me it's Unknown Pleasures.
Well, we could say Joy Division was New Order's magnum opus in a way... :-D
Theyre humble for what they did easily😂
They all look healthy and vibrant. Good on them.
Apart from barney and Steve's teeth, they could do with getting whitened
@@Pazuzu82 that's just a side effect of being british
Love that they mention Martin Hannett. I consider him Joy Division's 5th member as he molded the band's sound in the studio. It's so sad he isn't alive anymore. It's so sad Ian died before the band finally achieved some recognition and it's so sad that the remaining band members don't talk to each other!
They were together for 30 years before they pissed each other off. Most bands don't make it past the fame money and ego trips of early success.
Ian Curtis is one of those rare people I never knew, and died 13 years before I was born, but who I feel like I miss dearly and know so well through his lyrics.
Its the beauty of the eternal conversation that exists in great recordings and writings
Well done Hookey for credit where it is due. Without Martin Hannett, Unknown Pleasures and Closer would not have been as good. Absolute genius.
RIP Martin.
he does say the same thing but in greater depth on his book
40 years hard to believe. Grew up in the 90s and JD got me through some though times. Ian got me out of the darkness, to bad he couldn't get out also.
Couldn't have said it better myself, one of those bands groups of people that you trust top to bottom. Believe it or not one of the things I appreciate about Ian this that he exuded both strength and vulnerability, something I feel is missing from a lot of the music and bands of today. It's as if he's talking for you
Joy division, beauty and dark.
Vitor Hayward joy division it’s grey
Learn English you flabby bungholr
@A A you're a shit prick
Empaths and spiritual awakened and painful disorder isn't dark but isolated
I find it a bit scary how much I relate to some of these songs
I love the way Peter Hook talks, I could listen about Joy Division all day & night.
Read his books. Very good.
holy shit Stephen Morris looks so good still! Looks 20 years younger than Bernard and 15 years younger than Hooky
Ian Morrison when you play the drums at the speed Stephen does you might as well run 5 miles every day
Bought this album from a second hand record shop in 1982 because of the cover and the shop owners recommendation... As a thirteen year old, this album took me down a musical path that no one I know either understands or could fathom. Thank You Peter, Stephen, Bernard and Ian.... Martin Hannet. All, Absolute geniunses.
Heroes. All these three guys. Will they ever truly know what they gave to us all. For so many, Joy Division and then New Order has been the sound track to our lives. A heavenly gift.
Ian Curtis forever!!!
Hell Yeah!
I like how they still have these nice memories of ian smiling
I remember Joy Division supporting Buxzzcocks at Birmingham Odeoan i was waiting to get Buzzcocks album signed and they walked past Ian was the one who smiled and said hello
I'm pretending these interviews were all done while all three were in the same room at the same time where Bernard and Hooky patched things up to start working together again. One can wish, right?
Hooky is a prick!
@@thegreenbastard5171 How?
@@thewhoman3182 All the acting like a bitch and saying crap like, "they're not New Order", all childish @s fuck. Also I heard him say on the radio in an interview where he says if Bernard, Stephen, Gillian and Phil had asked him if they could still use the name "New Order" he would have said yes......WHAT?!?!?!?! So basically he's used them because he was in the huff!
The Green Bastard not cool using a fake name barney you old queen
@@thegreenbastard5171 the reason hooky says "they're pretending to be New Order" is because the New Order you see now aren't technically the same band. They had to license the name New Order from New Order for the new band. And because legal stuff is complicated, the new band basically bought all the rights and everything from the old band, this effectively meant Hooky got written out of the split so he couldn't make money from New Order. And considering he made up 1/4th of New Order and wrote a lot of the bloody songs I can understand why he isn't particularly pleased.
Also when Steve, Gillian and Barney met up to start up again they never asked Hooky if he wanted to be part of it, which is a bit of a dick move.
So nice to hear from all three of them. If only they’d get in a room together.
Unknown Pleasures is quite possibly one of if not the most important post-punk album of all time. From Disorder to I Remember Nothing, it’s a masterpiece. It’s pretty amazing that they only had short time of practicing their instruments and their songs. Then, they smashed the initial 10,000 copies of Unknown Pleasures, toured Europe, and influencing many bands. Joy Division is quite possibly the most influential post-punk band of all time and the most important post-punk band of all time.
Special Thanks to Mr. Martin 'faster but slower' Hammett
These recent projects on this channel are like a heaven send for us diehard fans that don’t get to hear much new stuff about the band most of the time.
Keep it up!
It's definitely cool, but it also kills the mystique of the band. It's not very rock and roll to see your favorite artists on youtube talking about the mundane, wearing shorts, and just being average dudes.
stephen morris is a great drummer
40 years and still feels like it came out today..
Ok
@@elviomamini2987 👍
The album is rather timeless and feels current or even somewhat modern still.
Also, ace profile photo. Eraserhead is a classic and David Lynch is a god damn genius.
@@ianturnbow7011 agree 💯
At everything you said
@Space Alien Jesus
Yeah I suspect Ian Curtis is in heaven now where everything is fine. If you get what I mean
Love this! Wish it were longer though. Us JD fans have so little to remember this amazing group by and every interview really counts!
So true 🙌
Interesting.....frequent uploads from this channel. Great news!.
Joy Division were unlike anything at the time. No other artist could match in 79/80 and what they produced was something truly special.
“I can’t believe I used to drink Brown Ale”
"But he smiled a lot" ❤
Still one of the greatest debuts ever .dark .moody and something beautiful to .god bless joy division
I'm going to see Hook playing Joy Division orchestrated at Sydney opera house in August. So stoked!
How was it?
Gracias por todo Muchachos!!!!
Su música ha Sido lo mejor que le ha podido pasar al Mundo.
Saludos de Colombia.🤗
Stephen looks so young
Peter Hook has great expressions while speaking. Watching him talk is just as good as hearing him talk.
I love Barney, Peter and Steve great musicians!
Barnie and Hookie, kiss and make up already man. Barnie, give him a fair deal cmon.
Joy Division - heroes of my rough youth. And Unknown Pleasures - the very first album bought for own money. Nostalgia...
I feel so sorry for Barney, Hooky and Steve, even nearly 41 years after Ian died, they still miss him loads. It’s very poignant hearing them talk about him. Rip Ian Curtis 1956 - 1980 🕊
Joy Division = Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Daniel Melo yes
They are all so brilliant
Hey Stephen! You all are the most underrated jam band on the planet…so that jamming was the prelude to greatness
it was 2015 when i first listen to Joy Division. I was 15. Now i'm 19 and i feel blessed for listening to them back then. One day I want the 3/4 members of Joy Division to announce a tour. I know it won't be "Joy Division" without Ian, but we still gonna love it. We all gonna be thrilled for good.
I did buy first JD album just after reading about the band on Melody Maker, many many years ago. A month after had to buy another one: the vynil was consumed!
I had the honour to attend a New Order gig at Tenax, Florence (Italy) 1982. AMAZING.
Happy birthday 'Unknown pleasures'...the first Joy Division's album I listened💓
Especially 40 years ago it was the first album by them anyone had heard

Great choice playing my favorite JD song in the background, Disorder.

I love this music. ❤
Somethings you remember for the rest of your life, I'm never gonna forget the first time i listened to this album. It changed me in ways i didn't know at the time, only now, several years later, i can appreciate the influence Unknown Pleasures had in my life. That's true art.
Love 'em. They had no idea they were about to change the world with that album.
Djlullaby22 in what way? Joy division were an underground sub culture scenem New Order were and are an international band.
More of these! Loved them
Could listen to them tell stories about Joy Division for hours and hours.
In an alternate universe where Ian survived his illness where would the band of gone in terms of sound and genre? The 80’s were a strange time...
Probably on my own with this. But I always felt Movement was the greatest Joy Division album, even though written by New Order after Ian had passed
It should have been re-recorded with a proper producer. Decent songs but terrible muddy production.
Thank you for this. Your music really got me through the most rough times of my life.

Happy birthday Unknown Pleasures 😍

A major music album ever recorded to me after all the decades.

Great album 🖤
Hooky, will see you in Vancouver in November, can not wait!
Thank you 🙏
A Lifetime Love.
can't wait for the next ep

Love u Ian , see ya soon 🖤
3 years old I was when this album came out. 9 years later thru college radio I heard tracks that impressed and changed my value of music till this day. According to an interview with Peter Hook, the 1st song they recorded is the 1st track on the LP, Disorder, which is, has been and will always be my definitive song from JD. For me, it's *the* perfect song. The drums that start the song and just don't stop. The bass that comes next and a band that finally gave bass a voice. The guitar riff that's just endless. Then the great Ian, just jams and me "seeing" him do his *robotic* dance. The best. Thanks guys. Truly.
Love u guys
