- Late February has brought us unusually warm weather and although we didn't need another reason to get out on our favorite river it sure didn't hurt. Upper 50's and big brown trout and steelhead...in February. We'll take it!
Hope you enjoy the video! Always appreciate you guys!

Absolutely awesome. That male rainbow was a fantastic fish.
Ya it really was! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thanks for making all of us jealous 👍👍
My pleasure! 😂
Good video and fishing trip.
What a Amazing day Fishing the river. Thank you for sharing
Couldn't ask for a better video, makes me feel like I'm there with ya! :)
I appreciate that!
Thank you Matt for all your videos, I landed one two weeks ago at Glenwood Bridge Boise river.
Nice! A steelhead? Did you eat it? I was impressed how good mine tasted.
@@OLDHATOUTDOORS Yes, really good.
As usual, awesome video and some great Boise River fish. Glad I got to thank you in person last Friday. I was the guy who caught something on first cast and line or knot failed at my swivel. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you sir! How did the rest of your fishing day go?
Not good….
Great video once again
Thanks for all the tips Matt, I put down the fly rod this week after a few weeks of getting skunked and tried your ways. Finaly caught some nice browns and had a blast. Now i want explore new areas of the river. When do you expect them to release the water this year?
Hey that’s great! Glad you got on some fish! Those browns are fun to target this time of year. Typically the flows increase around April 1 but if there is a lot of snow melt it could be earlier.
Great video, good job Matt!!!
Thanks Khaled!
Awesome stuff man!! Im going to get out there..I have yet to catch a brown and it's on my catch list for this year. Been fishing for sturgeon mostly. Congrats on the nice steelhead..I've seen you catch them and was wondering if you'd ever keep one..good stuff and I bet it tasted great..that is another one on my list lol
How's sturgeon fishing? Not much time left on the Boise until the water rises. Get out there! :-)
@@OLDHATOUTDOORS it's been good! I love that you can catch them all year long. Still trying to break my PB..my biggest was 8'2 but my last few have been 6'6. & yea I need to get out there. Might try tomorrow afternoon
@@papajorge88 good luck if you get out!
Any chance you might wanna take a random stranger that's tired of getting skunked fishing with you? I'd totally pay you/feed you/cow tow to you. I just want to understand what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance either way. Your videos are pearls.
Get a 7 foot medium fast action rod. A decent reel that you like. Buy a few packs of different size hooks from size 10 to 4 and split shot weights. Get a pack of worms or shrimp. Or both. Tie your hook. Put your split shot 12"-24" above your hook. Bait with a piece of nightcrawler or shrimp and work the river . Rent one of those birds scooters and you'll have a hell of an adventure 😂
@jamesburke8681 I'm doing all of this. Just unlucky I guess.
Hey there. The next 2-3 weeks I’m pretty tied up but if we still have low water towards the later part of March I think we can make something happen. Message me on Facebook or Instagram if you have it.
What are you using as bait in this video? Just moved here and Im constantly getting skunked out here
Hey welcome to Boise. Two types of fishing typically on the Boise. Summer (July - September) and this is how I would fish: ua-cam.com/video/bazntIHdkcQ/v-deo.html
Low water (October - March) Here's how I would fish that: ua-cam.com/video/bTpwyFs_pAk/v-deo.html
Hope that helps!
Landing some tanks!
Does it matter what type of shrimp is used? (frozen/cooked/fresh)?
I use cooked unfrozen shrimp.
@@OLDHATOUTDOORS Ok, thanks!
You ever fish west green belt bridge
I fish Barber to past Star and everything in between. 😀
why are pike minnows a letdown? i have never caught one they look fun.
They’re a let down when you’re hoping for a big brown trout. And too many pikeminnow can be detrimental to a good trout fishery like the Boise.
Big stick baits bud. Cover some water.
Not this time of year....soon though.
