I stopped watching after Christian and Syed left the Square. I knew the actor Jonny Labey who played Paul was only signed on for a limited time so I didn't bother watching but I came here for the clips. Now Max Bowden is playing Ben and he is dynamite! Love him and love his storyline with Callum who is played by Tony Clay. I'm back to the Square and loving it!
Seeing Ben and Paul honestly makes me cry. Ben met someone who made him forget about all the shit he’d been through and just made him happy. I wish they’d kept Paul in the show.
It's the little catch in Paul's voice at 2:59 for me. Such a subtle, powerful expression that shows vulnerability. The audience always saw him as confident and carefree up to this point, but Ben really caught him off-guard and forced him to take himself and someone else seriously.
And two think, These two actors playing Gay roles. Are straight in real life---Or so we're told. I still tear up when Ben is told that Paul is dead. A tragic ending, but to have a gay couple on eastenders is not real. At least in 2016

Ben Mitchell is played by actor Harry Reid. I haven't checked on his bio for some time. He is straight in real life also. He's been on Eastenders for several years. Sometimes a person gets typecast. Like (this may seem drastic comparison) Bela Lagose (Dracula) 1931. I used to watch the classics as a kid.
Emily, my point being that actor Harry Reid's character is gay. And most gay actors get killed off or tragedy strikes. I would like to see a happily there after. I have yet to find one. This is 2017, not 1917!
