It’s rare to see someone hit every damn note AND not sound robotic at the same time. Just incredible. I can play. I just can’t play like this. I wish I could of course, but I still have fun. Peace brother
I am a Hendrix connoisseur, I’ve watched 100s of people over the years attempt the great man’s work and you sir are by a country mile the best I’ve ever seen. I’m literally blown away by that, first video of yours I’ve ever seen. You have a gift and was born to play the guitar. You should have millions of subs. Thank you for that, had a huge smile on my face throughout.
This is excellent because you made the version YOUR OWN....well done!!! You took Jimi and SRV inspiration and infused your own technique and that is exactly how what makes it shine. 15+ years of infusing Voodoo Child in my set lists and I also believe this is the most dynamic approach vs. trying to copy to sound like exactly the 2 greats. The opportunity to let your style blossom is the best approach to deliver this song and really make it magic.
I didn’t think I would sit through an 8+ minute video, let alone watch it utterly enthralled. You nailed SRV and Hendrix’s style, and let your own fly. Really first rate playing, and like everyone’s saying, it’s inspiring. I’ve got to go play now.
This is incredible! One thing i really feel is that The Jimi Hendrix Experience version was always the most psychedelic sounding than any of the other blues/rock sounding versions like Stevie Ray Vaughans. The bass, the drums and Jimi's solo was trippy into another dimension.
I don’t think I can count how many times I’ve watched this but it always puts a smile on my face and inspires me to keep picking at my guitar. Thanks so much for sharing. 👏🏻💕🎸
Love the tone, amazing playing, such a breath of fresh air to see hear a real player with all these amateur tubers showing off senseless fast riffs, silly smiles, low cut clothing or hey I'm not looking at my fingers... yeah it's so nice to see someone that hasn't forgotten the main focus ... MuSic
I have to be honest my friend, this video took on a new meaning. I had to end playing the drums 6 years ago. After playing just about everyday for over 45 years, Cancer between my brain and skull and a 9 1/2 surgery knocked me down for a while. And just when things got back to almost normal 4 years later ....yep...once again I had to go for surgery . Easy surgery , but the added bonus of radiation treatments. 5 days a week for 3 months. I lost 35% of my body weight. That was the end of doing something that was such a huge part of my life.Lots of great memories. My son turned 14 and began listening to the same music as me. I waited for the question....and what do know...he wanted to play the guitar. Lol.. I buy him a guitar and amp...and offered to get him lessons. He wants to wait a little. I hear him playing some crazy metal music...Slipknot....and similar music. He's playing only for a few months and this kid has a great ear. He can tune his guitar several different ways....Several Drop tunings...Several open tuning...Half and full drop all by ear . No tuner ...no tuning to a album. After tuning it with a tuner for a short while , he can accurately tune it anyway he needs by ear. I always had a guitar and amp around the house too. Couldn't really play...but loved it. ( Here's where this video comes in. ) I asked him to try playing to some music where you can understand what their singing and hear the guitars without layers of distortion that drown out the talent of the musician. He likes Hendrix....I directed him to this video. I asked him to first try and learn Voodoo Chile with his distortion pedals , so when he got here he could appreciate what's going on with your playing. Well my friend...you save me from future headaches hearing Slipknot day in and day out, and distortion beyond belief. He thinks your a great guitarist too. I can tell when that internal switch went on and his love of music and his craft totally changed. So now I'm learning with him. I turned him on to this video so he can see what hard work, time and dedication can result in. So now he wants to get a Strat and learn these classics . Thanks my friend. No helicopters , no Heroin.... Like the old saying goes...last man standing. Thank you again.
I am so inspired listening to how you have coped with all the enormous challenges in your life . I am 73 and want to get back to playing....I have an Auto Immune disease which is well managed and I am hoping to promote a local live music venue soon! My best friend is battling cancer as well and we mainly talk on the phone in between his treatments. Your son sounds like a "chip off the old block" and I am sure when he hears the greats ....either way as long as he pursues that dream in any genre..Good luck and safe travels!😴💥
I have seen so many versions n cover of this famous Jimi song, including SRV, but this is insane....every note is spot on ....and blending of both Jimi n SRV....I guess I've seen every thing now!!🙌
I love SRV but lately I’ve been deep diving into Jimi’s playing and it’s blown me away. I can’t believe he created all this incredible music 50 years ago. Truly the greatest. Check out Machine Gun Fillmore East live Jimi Hendrix. Masterpiece. Awesome stuff Sean
Great job of combining Hendrix and SRV's sound, style and cleverness. Any musician can tell immediately it's not them playing, nor Shannon and Layton backing you. But it's obvious that the arrangement is influenced by them with pieces taken from their various performances so that it's almost like a flowing 'greatest hits' collection in one flowing solo. This is extremely hard to play clean, with expression as well as your own really tasteful style bits sprinkled in all over the place. A really interesting listen to that which few can pull off. Extremely well done. Kudos.
The most beautiful thing is to see how much joi this dude has while playing, no ego involved, that's why he sounds so fucking awesome, great job man, Hendrix or srv would be proud for sure!!!
Damn this is by far the best cover of this song that I have ever heard and I've been playin for over 45yrs . The impeccable timing and clarity and musical direction is pure . I've heard seasoned studio guys as well as thousands of great players . Dude is a delight to listen to .

I've seen almost ever SRV cover on the internet and while a lot of them can hit all the notes they always seem to fall short for me. They all seem to lack the emotion. You Nailed it all. Not only did you "hit all the notes" but you performed the song and I felt the emotion that all the others lack. Gotta say the best Hendrix cover since SRV! Glad I ran across you channel.
Brilliant. Kept it moving perfectly, it had to sound alive and slinky like its gonna go further than what you’ll hear, it has the urgency to drag everything along with it, and along the way it’s opening little doors off the corridor, peeking in and responding, and then moving on. It’s an untamed entity. There’s a plurality to it too. Man Hendrix was his own kind of genius. That was Rad. Rock on man 🤘🏼
Everytime I click on your videos I expect something absolutely incredible, but yet, you suprise me with some absolute legendary playing man. Love it. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. KEEP IT UP. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT VIDEO
Absolutely fantastic performance! I could watch it again and again for hours - such a clean playing and great rythm. So many great licks in there, especially loved the walkdown in 2:41. Thank you for the inspiration!! :)
I love the authenticity of what you do. It's great playing and so tight. Well done. These kind of videos are very inspiring and they bring a new audience to experience the greats that started it all. It's hard to be original anymore, but I do think you have infused your own rhythmic chops in there that work really well. Keep em coming.
Since Jimi and Steve are two legends, it is very difficult to find someone who reproduces their works with a minimum of brilliance. But you can. Listening to you gives me an incomparable pleasure. Congratulations on sharing your talent and your gift. Greetings from Brazil!
