I've had this bar since 2019 and I have no reason to upgrade lol the bar and woofer sound great for what it is and super convenient. I've had the km45 setup in 3 different houses now.
I've got mine all plugged in, I didn't need to connect any wires to the back of the tv but it's still turning up and down using my tv remote, apparently I don't need the one that came with the sound bar. Wooo. Thanks for the guide, I watched a lot of people setting these up before I was brave enough to try my own :D
Thanks for clarifying that using HDMI will allow you to use your samsung tv remote to control the volume on the soundbar. Something that Samsung didn't think important enough to note in their manuals or website.
You can also control volume with TV IR remote when using the optical cable. You need to enable it first. Turn off soundbar and hold woofer button upwards 5 seconds. This will cycle the modes, firs mode is TV remote disabled, second is for Samsung TVs, and the third mode is all TV brands (at least the major ones). Oh and it's in the manual.
Thanks for the video. I was about to throw in the towel until I watched this video. I didn’t know about ARC connection and the optical wasn’t working. Thanks for sharing!
Tried a ton of vids after not being able to get my arc connection working. My solution? From Sonys' site (I'm using two Samsung divices). I unplugged the TV and soundbar. Turned them back on after a minute, and wha-la it worked.
I am so glad I saw this video, after having the Samsung model HW-435/ZA for almost 8 months I connected it with the HDMI ARC wire and wow, it sounds much better. Thank you for the video.
I was gutted to discover that my Samsung TV didn't have ARC. I was forced to use optical which was fine but I didn't like having to use the separate remote for power. So I connected up non ARC hdmi, enabled CEC at the TV, and now the Samsung TV remote controls soundbar power (and volume) with DIN being used for optical sound. The soundbar manual describes the buttons to hold down to activate these features. Thought I should share this.
So I’m running into this same problem you did. How intricate was it to get the sound at to work off of the tv remote you use? I don’t feel like investing a ton of effort into it, but I do hate that my tv doesn’t have arc capability.
@@mjlambert210 It's not too intricate. Connect using both optical and hdmi. Ensure tv had hdmi cec enabled. Check the bar manual for the couple of features that have to be enabled, done by holding down certain bar remote buttons. Why they don't enable features by default I have no idea. My bar runs the sound using din, and my TV remote adjusts the volume and the power. All without ARC support in my TV.

Mine doesn't have the box thing on the powercord and only came with the optics cable, I don't know what to do I've never set up a soundbar before! I just got my first tv since 2012, haha :D
Does the sound play out of the TV and the soundbar or just the soundbar? If you turn the power off to the soundbar does the sound automatically play out of the TV?
It depends what connection you use, and the settings on your tv. if you HDMI ARC, your TV will disable the internal speakers and play out of the soundbar only... you can change this in your TV's menu. if you use an analog connection or optical, your TV's speakers will stay on, and you will have to turn the volume down to zero, if you only want to hear the soundbar.
When plugging in the hdmi arc, I put an hdmi cord into the sound bar but my hdmi ports didn’t have the word “arc” labeled on them. Would it still work if it’s hooked up to a regular hdmi port?

I purchased a bluetooth transceiver & I placed it on my television. While the quality of the sound using the wired ARC (HDMI) connection is definitely better, the bluetooth volume can be made significantly louder.
I have this soundbar from 2016. I never used it in the past 3 years because in the first 2 I had it paired with a Samsung TV(using D IN and ARC), all good back then. Since I changed my TV(LG now) this soundbar lost its life, the sound is flat, the bass is extremely flat, no more punch, nothing. I noticed this behavior since the moment I took it because I initially connected it via bluetooth and the sound quality was really poor compared to the ARC/D IN on the samsung tv. Do you know why it may sound this miserable without a Samsung TV?

Today, 06/26/20, I am returning my purchase....it did not have HDMI (ARC) in or out ports.....only optical.....and the unit does not perform like I hoped it would. Probably because of low power....200W.
I have this soundbar and can anyone tell me if ARC supports 4k @ 60hz? I have the soundbar connected to 4k @ 60hz HDMI ARC on TV, then have the other port on soundbar connected to my NVIDIA Shield. The TV is showing that it is only at 1080p and not 4k for some reason. I even checked on my Shield to see if I can change that, but not able to be done.
You can also connect your soundbar to the TV by clicking TV option on the source of the remote if your television is also Samsung. You're skipping that part
