I knew Colin when he drove for Vauxhall in a Nova in his early career. His father still drove at that point in a sierra Cosworth. I worked in Motorsport PR for Vauxhall at that time. We used to call him Colin McShed because he always wrote his car off at each rally!! A really nice guy who was hugely talented. How sad and ironic to die in a helicopter and not at 90mph in the mud of a forest!! I would have loved to see him world champion many more times.

So frightening yet so so impressive, it seems the only way he slows down is buy throwing it so sideways, it does look so unsafe and absolutely on the limit. Seen Colin many times out on the stages, he always looked the quickest but wild.

@@CroIntr00X Errr, nope. A Scandinavian Flick is when you turn the wrong way before the corner, and in the process of catching the slide you over correct sending the rear of the car into a more dramatic angle into the corner allowing you to get on the power earlier, therefore you can (mostly) be facing the corners exit and accelerate in a straight line. Colin is turning into the corner early, at such a speed that by the time he gets to the apex (where other drivers would still be controlling the slide) he's done with the corner and is accelerating flat out in a straight line. Now, approaching some corners I will agree that it looks like a Scandinavian Flick, but he's using the friction created by sliding the car sideways to get it slowed down enough to make the corner. That is when you see him doing three or more dramatic flicks from left to right, if he didn't do that (washing off speed) the cars braking would not be sufficient to slow him down. Sometimes you think you might be a good driver, might even entertain dreams of Rally someday, then you watch a video like this.....good grief! It’s like managing one long accident.
To me it's a proof that video game driving can be reality, you just need to be really really really really really really really good at driving. It's fun to achieve this level at games, but to do it actually irl, they are so far off that you can't compare them. Basics are the same but other invokes such feelings and requires such skill that one can only admire these warriors. Home rally driver salutes one of the kings o/
Not least the control of the mind ... whilst us mere mortals would be thinking 'wow, I nearly crashed there', Colin is half a mile and four corners further on.
As real as rally games may be they are not even close to being the same. In real life every single stone, stick, pothole etc could kill you instantly and none of that transfers into any game.
I always think F1 and wrc requires Such a powerful brain in terms of raw data processing at speed. So much visual information coming at you at once. Honestly more so difficult in wrc because you are relying on co driver notes and have to give brain power to processing those as you drive. Rip Colin.
Greatest Rally driver of all time..Sure Loeb and others won more titles but CM's ability was on a different level....how can people vote this video down?
Just watched this on my Oculus Quest edge to edge in my vision. Insanely intense. My heart rate was through the roof. Colin was probably around 60 bpm throughout. Man was a machine, a super talented mind meld with the car machine. RIP legend.
And they say the F1 drivers are the best drivers in the world.... try this Sebastian Vettel! 200 KPH on a gravel road... it takes more than talent... it take massive balls!!
Colin was extremely quick when he tested an F1 car, similar pace to the regular test drivers within a couple of laps. He was by far the most spectacular Rally driver I ever had the pleasure to watch from the road side from his early Nova days, Sierra 2.8 V6 4x4 then the Cosworths, before the glory days of Subaru and beyond. RIP big man
There will be others Champions. There will not be another Colin McRae.
That first scandi was unbelievable and I was so lucky to have for testing in the Subaru Legacy with him as I used to be a former rally champion in 1990 in my 6R4 and when Colin drove mine he bought one ! I used to instruct at Prodrive at their private track in Warwickshire FenEnd. Great days indeed .
some pro pilots don't have their driving license it's possible but it's more in motorbike I think, they have car driving license but not bike because they find too dangerous to drive on the open road :)
Theswedishperfection Indeed. I was kinda blown away watching him do that section. The moment he passed that right hander, I was like, “how on earth did he manage to do that?”
what a driving style!! there are part of the special where some drivers can be quicker with a more traditionnal style, but there are corners where u can't be quicker. Crazy sense of the rotation of a car. His timings are amazing.
Amazing car control. Opposite lock on nearly every corner. So much more entertaining than rallying today. It all seems a bit clinical and safe now. Colin was a true driving legend with tremendous talent.
Ever since i was a little kid,Colin Mcrae was my favorite, and he still is.I doubt that we'll see a driver of Colin's caliber in WRC ever again.Sure, drivers like Loeb,Makinnen,Kankunnen and Ogier might have more championships, but there are many different champions and there is only one Colin Mcrae.Rest in peace, legend.
The drivers you mention are top drivers and maybe are better to win a rally. But no one of them can do what Colin did in this video. I'm completely sure.
yeah a couple of times it was pretty close call but still I admit he had the BALLS to do it , so at least for that alone he was one of the greatest !!!!
I feel totally honoured and privileged to have a Subaru rally plaque here in the old 555 logos etc signed by Colin McRea. what a total legend he was . Sadly taken way too early
I got to go 15 min as a passenger with a top professional rally driver in a Subaru as part of a promo for Rally of Canberra and as someone who used to go kart a bit and has spent some time driving on tracks in race cars and I also have my introductory certificate into Rallying that these guys are absolutely on a different level.. they are thinking so far ahead that they enter turn 1 on this weird line so it let's them exit turn 3 perfectly and the amount of trust they put in that car.. I love racing and going fast and he even asked me 'fast or really fast?" and I told him to go as fast as he possibly could.. and he did!! I was shytting myself and the noise and vibrations from rocks smashing the bash guard under the car plus the backfiring from the exhaust and stink of petrol as we were getting air @ 175 kph in the forest gave me such a sensory overload. one of the top 3 experiences of my life. Next level.

It's funny a young man like you explains that we should trust you... You didn't live through the 80s. You don't remember the 90s. The only true thing in your comment is that Colin was a great driver. There were others though, some were more successful, others were crowd favorites for their driving style... The craziness of the 80s crowd... The flying barely controllable beasts of Audi, Lancia, Peugeot, Ford, Mazda, Toyota... It's good there's at least YT today, cause you young people missed a lot of rallying. It was amazing and of course - we were young then 😉 I really miss the times, where your uncle buys the HF Integrale Evo... In bright yellow. Few years later you get a Cossie.... Cars with race aura around them... When homologation was a thing... Damn, I miss the 80s and 90s...
@@IvoRadev Lancia were some of my favorite manufacturers, gotta love the 037 and the Stratos Lancia before it. It's the gear changes that stand out to me. Dropping a single gear when the instinct is to drop two. Then short shifting on the way out to keep the same level of grip. Every in car video is a masterclass in car control.
Just like in life; You make your shifts at the proper time, know the course in which you are going to take, keep both hands on the wheel, take each curve one at at time and get on with it. That is how you win.
In the ninety's I remember him testing a Subaru in Lousada, Portugal before the rally that year. First time i drove a kart, in the tarmac part of the circuit which was mixed for rally cross. Afterwards Colin appeared with someone kart, maybe his own, full power around the circuit. At some point he broke off the circuit in the finish line in a u-turn into a dusty ground where the amateurs were changing karts and a guy sited counting the laps for everybody ahah he crashed the guy, his table, everything around after accelerating back to the circuit and continued. He was a mad person in a good sense, he enjoyed life through velocity to it's limit!

Indeed
RIP legend.
4:39 absolute legend
Because slide jump from 5:00 to 5:07 isn't just mindblowing?
What part of this video isn’t mindblowing. Geezus
5:50 is worth it aswell! Even if yeah all the time it’s just incredible
And they say the F1 drivers are the best drivers in the world.... try this Sebastian Vettel!
200 KPH on a gravel road... it takes more than talent... it take massive balls!!
I love f1, they're amazing drivers, but this is a different skill level entirely! One of the best ever, for sure
RIP big man
Vettel spins a car in a perfect track, so in a Rally track he would be extremely dangerous
Of all types of racing/driving, this is the one that scares me to do
@@krissblade5330 that car you're talking about is an F1 which is an entirely different beast than a rally car.
Who can dislike this?
Someone without driving license
Nascar fans
some pro pilots don't have their driving license it's possible but it's more in motorbike I think, they have car driving license but not bike because they find too dangerous to drive on the open road :)
I said the same
He is a legend !!
Good joke😂😂
The longest accident recovery in history. Nice save!
when Samir finally start listen to calls
This should have a thousand likes
You ARE BREAKING THE CAR !
Don't tell me how to drive 😐
Medium left! Medium left, long, Samir!
LISTEN TO ME
That.. was by far the most impressive driving I have ever seen..
Ciao CAMPIONE.........
R.I.P.
Condivido pienamente
His driving skills were unreal!!!! The man had a gift! Greatest rally driver
Greatest driver of any motor sport
He was THE GREATEST EVER Rally Driver! 100% Most Talented/Gifted and most exciting to watch!
4:08 ONLY COLIN.....
Theswedishperfection Indeed. I was kinda blown away watching him do that section. The moment he passed that right hander, I was like, “how on earth did he manage to do that?”
If in doubt, flat out... :-D
5:04 percent only Colin as well
+Scott Anderson would love to see that from outside. Anyone has TV records?
TheswedishperfectionHe drift the car before the corner to exit on full gass! amazing driver.... i think the best doing this things
Absolute masterclass in rally driving...legend rip
It’s like watching Picasso painting a masterpiece.
Much better than that
Picasso had worst paintings ever

The way he drives this focus, wow.
God-like driving, he was it in some way connected with the car. The best among all of them.
Colin still lives in our hearts
How can u 👎🏻 this
What a creature you are !
Nothing but skill and talent there, says a lot about u !
what a driving style!! there are part of the special where some drivers can be quicker with a more traditionnal style, but there are corners where u can't be quicker. Crazy sense of the rotation of a car. His timings are amazing.
Amazing car control. Opposite lock on nearly every corner. So much more entertaining than rallying today. It all seems a bit clinical and safe now. Colin was a true driving legend with tremendous talent.
Colin McRae always push it beyond the limit...this is amazing stuff of motorsport history
My favourite rally driver, a legend resting in peace, still making hairpin turns, over crest in the clouds amongst fellow legends.
God bless Colin!! He is the best!! He allways will bee..:)
Real fans Champion!
Ever since i was a little kid,Colin Mcrae was my favorite, and he still is.I doubt that we'll see a driver of Colin's caliber in WRC ever again.Sure, drivers like Loeb,Makinnen,Kankunnen and Ogier might have more championships, but there are many different champions and there is only one Colin Mcrae.Rest in peace, legend.
hillclimbracingfan true that !
You forgot Walter Röhrl he is a Legend, too.
Kankunnen was very fast too
The drivers you mention are top drivers and maybe are better to win a rally. But no one of them can do what Colin did in this video. I'm completely sure.
Don't forget Markku Alén(Maximum Attack)
One of the best definetly.
Jesus.. done some pretty heavy driving myself, but this is a whole other level of crazy... Mcrae was from another world, no doubt about it
yeah a couple of times it was pretty close call but still I admit he had the BALLS to do it , so at least for that alone he was one of the greatest !!!!
Where he was from neptun
He is now
Another world? Yeah its called Scotland mate lol
I feel totally honoured and privileged to have a Subaru rally plaque here in the old 555 logos etc signed by Colin McRea. what a total legend he was . Sadly taken way too early
what a genius...hats off Colin McRae...we miss you...
My god does he throw it into the bends early, judged to perfection. Some man for the Scandinavian flick!
These few minutes r way better than 2hrs of an action thriller movie...
Truly dominated...
Next level.
I have watched rally since i was 8 i am now 27 , so trust me when i say you will never ever see anyone drive with such controlled aggression this man was ALWAYS on the limit he didn't do half measure and he sure as hell didn't to slow .
One of the best rally drivers to ever get in a car possibly the greatest ever .
SAME HERE Im 28, 92', used to watch em when I was like 7-8-9, best years of my life xD
He definitely didn’t do half measures . Flat out or crash out. Pure talent . I got the pleasure of seeing him rally in Wales . Simply awesome
@@IvoRadev Lancia were some of my favorite manufacturers, gotta love the 037 and the Stratos Lancia before it. Amazing vehicles :0 I wish I was around in the 80s so I could watch greats like Henri Toivonen and his Delta S4..(before his unfortunate crash that ultimately led to the downfall of Group B) and Walter Röhrl. Basically the guys who drove in anger before the advent of ABS and ARBs. Those guys had some serious ability
Never you'll watch this kind of driving, RIP Colin, the rally world miss you so mutch
Amen to that. Unique.. irreplaceable
Did he die "at work" ?
@@johnthompson9602 Crashed his helicopter with his Son and a few others. Read it on Google Mate.
A true rally driver in purest form... God how I miss McRae. RIP.
The guy was an absolute animal behind the wheel 😮 he's one of a kind for sure 😎🏴
he's doing it better than I do in the game!
yes...
Paulius Kairys oh and what's the game?
Dirt Rally or RBR
Realmente impressionante.
No wonder none of the other drivers (makinen included) could follow his lines!!! They all said it, if you come on the stage behind McRae there no chance of following his line, now we see why!!! The way he dispatched that chicane in 5th gear half way thru 😧 RIP MAC
Andrew Ritchie i know right...
5:02 ?^!?^! gee
I understand better why he crashed so often ;)
RIP Colin, you're not forgotten mate
Superb footage. Absolutely superb. My first car was a Mk1.5 Focus. Hard to believe that mine and King Colin's car were the same car on the outside but of course it stopped there lol.
Rest in Peace Colin McRae. Still sadly missed
It was because of Colin I fell in love with the mk1 focus, I now own 2, if in doubt, flat out!
It's the gear changes that stand out to me. Dropping a single gear when the instinct is to drop two. Then short shifting on the way out to keep the same level of grip. Every in car video is a masterclass in car control.
I wouldn't dare to drive like this even on a playstation...
I would get nauseous while doing this on the Playstation even!
If what you said is true, Boy you're missing the whole point of playing a video game. Go play and be fearless.
Pusseys
Good luck not hitting a tree while 120mph drift jumping
ido this in a van... haha
Sweet mother of Santa Claus!
Very impressive!
No one could fling that thing through the woods like you could.
You are missed...
Incredible! I've never witnessed something so amazing... how a guy can sit there reading without getting car sick is beyond me.
He's not reading. He's praying!
I kept all my Colin Mccrea rally games from the past. What a legend |!
Colin Is A Driver from Another World!
Colin🏴Forever!! From Spain!!
Best driver ever ... Rest in Peace Colin 😓
race in peace
