About the whale and erasing people from memories and existence: - If the whale hit you, rip you apart, or kill you in any way outside the whale then you die normally - If the whale eats you, then you are erased from the memories
GOTGames congratulations you made it past the Prologue now. Are you ready for Starcraft/Command and Conquer/Dark Souls/EldenRing Subaru? Are you ready? Remember now Natsuki Subaru has a photographic memory and RE:Start by Death makes him pretty OP Just like the old NES games with no CheckPoints

"... Half of what Satela could." Him: "What does that mean?" Me: "Well, it clearly means that she could make 2000 shadow hands, or whatever they were called." Anyway, I know he didné mean it like that. 😅
I absolutely love episode 18. The fact that we just stand there watching characters talk is pure gold. No opening, nothing. Just pure raw emotions. The scenography is perfect. The voiceacting. the music. Love it.
It reminded me of the scene with the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3. I know it's not a great movie, but I always thought the choice to use the swallowed phone ring tone was strangely terrifying. As a way of saying to the audience "it's here, but you can't see it"
At the end there, when Rem semi-confronted him with a lying accusation, she is correct. The "metia" or phone does not actually have a feature that tells the world when the whale appears. He isn't technically lying to Crush, since he has set an alarm which he "knows" will ring when the whale appears, but he is lying when he talks to Rem about relying on the metia. He is relying on his past life. But he can't explain that.
Subaru actually had the authority to sell the mining rights, but it is only explained in the novels. Basically, Rem had received a secret mission from Roswaal to negotiate with Crusch to form an alliance at night. However, this mission had a catch: If Subaru were to find out about it, he would gain the rights to lead the negotiations. After the talk with Rem, he pieced together all the puzzle pieces and acquired the authority. Also, in this episode, there is a very interesting easter egg hidden: Subaru talks about how some people have carved their names into the tree, and if you set your screen brightness to maximum, you can barely read it. In Japanese, there is written: "Flugel was here," referring to the Flugel who planted the tree.
I didn't know about the name on the tree being Flugel... that is very interesting! The timeline for that signature makes me raise an eyebrow... Can't wait for the show to clarify
the biggest shocker there, is the fact that its written in japanese implying that flugel was also from japan also, its interesting to know that, during the mansion mystery, subaru writes in his notebook "subaru was here" in iirc, the same format
Cellphone song is the opening to an old anime called "The Dog of Flanders" from 1975. Patrasche, Subaru's ground dragon is also named after the dog from the anime. Cool story on how they got the ringtone is that they recorded the audio of it playing from an old flip phone in order to give it a more authentic sound.
Im going to say this in the most non spoilery way possible, but I love that the show doesn't just drop this here. Subaru's feelings about himself and his past aren't something that just goes away instantly. Subaru is one of the most relatable characters in anime for it
I don’t hate rem but at the same time people don’t give Subaru enough credit for how forgiving a person he was. If I was killed multiple times by Rem and tortured I might just hate her regardless of how she makes up for it. Personally I like rem, but if Subaru didn’t I could see why
the author wrote a what if story where subaru and rem run away instead, and they get married and have two kids and actually have a wholesome happy ending, of couse the village and emilia and ram die tho, the IF stories are written once a year on subarus' birthday, april 1st aka april fools day
I’m a bit confused about that then, if Emilia died doesn’t that mean puck destroys the world? Or is puck actually not strong enough to end the world, since there are characters like satella, the great dragon, Reinhard, or others? I imagine with characters like that puck goes on a rampage intending on destroying everything but is actually not capable of it?
that's actually genius, it's my first time hearing that as an anime only. Since it's april fools he can just release a fake chapter without anyone criticizing him and it also becomes a celebration for subaru's birthday once people get used to it knowing it will be a fakeout chapter about a what if scenario.
@@madscientist14 If it's the first time you've heard of it them I'm happy to inform you that there are many mores ! They're called the Sins If Route where Subaru could've turned on a completely different path if he made a different choice at certain point The route where Subaru and Rem abandon everyone and live together is called the Sloth If, because he gave in and essentially choose the easy way out, but there's also the Pride If Route, Wrath If, Greed If, Gluttony If... There's also a Lust If where Subaru become king of Lugunica and marries all the candidate and Rem, but it's as much of a joke harem chapter as it gets and was deleted so it's not canon in the ifs, they're all incredible and honestly just there to fulfill the fans fantasy of wanting to see edgy, badass, crazy, powerful, or just plainly happy versions of Subaru. If you're an anime only and watched Season 2 the only thing that will really spoil you is the Gluttony Route which will spoil things that will happen in season 3 or 4, there's also videos of the routes if you don't feel like reading, if you're only up to season 1, avoid watching the Greed If too. Have a good day !
25:36 It’s really hard to just _change_ when you’re stuck in the habit of doing things the way you do on a daily basis. Subaru really wants to change, but he feels as if he isn’t capable enough. He’d rather keep on going for Emilia and the others, maybe partially as a way to atone for his slothfulness in his previous life, but believes that whatever he does barely changes anything at all, and that he’s essentially worthless-in the middle of his speech, he even says: “Before I came here… before I got into the situation that led me to all of you, do you have any idea what I did?”-which is obviously a prime factor that leaves him feeling discouraged and hopeless. It’s extremely, extremely difficult to keep journeying forward when nobody knows the depth of your suffering as well. Subaru is a person with major flaws, but he still sought to make the effort to become a better person and learn. If Subaru was truly an arrogant and narcissistic human being, then he wouldn’t admit to his sins. Even though we’ve seen him face physical and psychological torture, we wouldn’t be able to understand how he feels (and I guess that that’s fair enough as we aren’t him lol). All I’m saying is, cut Subaru some slack! 🤷♂️
yeah subaru is flawed but deep down hes actually a good person or he wouldnt be able to change at all. i dont get why ppl hate him well i do but hes just a normal person with flaws and is selfish at times. he can be cringe at times but he always ends up doing the right thing and becoming the hero even if he has to die a few times and suffer before he does.
It's crazy how people think Subaru is trash, he's been trying to save everybody, some people just expect him to snuff the pain out. The reverse happens with Rem, many people put her on a pedestal while forgeting her past actions and present problems, with Subaru it's seeing all his bad things. Of course this is a minority i think.
@@idk-ye7ur yeah that too. im mean its a miracle the guy isnt insane yet and all these ppl are like do better subaru. the dudes literally died for them countless times i think he has the right to lose it and do the wrong thing every once in a while. i am a rem fan too but i respect subaru for telling her like it is like a man and not stringing her along and sugar coating that he loves emelia and i like that he didnt just change his mind instantly like his love for emelia meant nothing. and after s2 im an emelia fan too both are good choices. #TeamRemorEmelia
Props to the VA of Rem & Subaru. It was the most compelling dialogue from any of the characters we’ve seen so far. It was so realistic that I have to keep reminding myself that this anime is an Isekai.
Somethings to clarify- 1) The white whale is not a sin but a mabeast that represents gluttony. 2) Betty doesn't know abt Subaru's return by death, but Puck does(its not a spoiler) but its a minor detail that u missed when during the 3rd ep when Erza was going to attack Emilia from behind, Subaru said, "Puck, shield her" but notice that Puck didn't ask Subaru how he knew his name! and during that loop, they haven't even met before!
Everyone who picks on Subaru for saying he loves Emília in that scene simply doesn't understand the purpose of that scene. Rem herself says that the Subaru that was choosing her and abandoning Emília wasn't the real Subaru. It was an empty shell of Subaru, a Subaru that had given up everything and was empty and desperate. If Rem herself understood this, I don't understand how there are people who managed to not understand...
Plus one of the lessons Subaru learns during this arc is that you are not entitled to anything, not even having your affection reciprocated. Plus plus another point outright stated in this episode is that he isn't the kind of person to take the easy way out. Choosing Rem after she confessed would absolutely be that. And in doing so he would betray the main reason she's in love with him in the first place.
im glad to see alot of people are logical about this and thinking subaru choosing emilia is the correct choise for him. it was an absolute hell while this was airing, some people dropped the whole series because subaru didnt pick the person they wanted him to pick. subaru fell in love with emilila in 1st episode and rem killed suabru couple of times but sure just ignore subarus feelings and pick rem instead because i like rem more. it was and it still is wild. cant even comprehend how someone would think rem is the correct answer here literally not even 1% chance of making a thought about that working out
It's finally time for the episode that made me bawl my eyes out like a goddamn baby This is where Re: Zero went from a damn good show to my neverending obsession
The thing about the unwavering believe Rem has in Subaru is because she is the 1st person that he "Trully Saved", since he got to this world. Yes, he save Emilia from dying to Elsa. But she wasn't trully saved by him, at least not yet. Like Rem said herself, her time has stopped, she wasn't living, she was just existing. But Subaru was the one that made her have the will to live again after forgiving herself.
22:00 - You can't say Subaru doesn't deserve Rem. Rem doesn't know what Subaru has gone through that's why she can say that. If you compare both of their experiences, Subaru it it rougher and it's not even close. Just imagine the suffering and count how many times Subaru lost someone and died as well. What you should say is Subaru deserves better. It's acceptable that Rem can say that though because what she thought was just a few days was actually weeks for Subaru suffering, dying and resetting. 29:00 - This can be defined as Johari Window. In short, there are 4 sides to know someone 100%.
A small fun fact: The time in his phone shows that it is evening. If you think about it, when he left the convenience store in episode 1, it was nighttime, and when he first arrived in this world, it was daytime. He simply did not set the time in his phone, so it shows the current time of his former world.
ps: all in all, the anime could not depict how subaru words, i love emilia, were not a rejection to rem here, but a restatement of his own goals. in fact, later on he develops on the matter of rem feelings and his own. we also had a scene cut from the anime that explain this better.
25:42 There are times where if Subaru says something offhand or speaks vaguely, he can get away with saying things like this, probably because no one who hears it would think that he's speaking literally. He only seems to get punished if he consciously tries to reveal his Return By Death ability.
@@Tiro_de_Esquinait happens when someone knows about rbd as well as when Subaru tries to tell them, in the webnovel and probably light novel of arc 4 Satella comes after the first trial as well as the second.
He also managed to let some things slip a few times when he was dying, or thought he was dying. The curse uses the fear of death to stun him if he tries to reveal it's secret, but if he's in a heightened emotional state beyond the fear of death, it has no way to restrain him. This is the first time we've seen him face his fear of failure so intensely that it's given him that same level of freedom. The catharsis of facing your own self-doubt can give a person an insane sort of courage.
Man episode 18 is one of the best Re: Zero episodes ever! The fact the whole episode was just meaningful dialogue did it for me. The story telling of this anime is perfect lol. I've watched this anime like 4 times now and each time I realize something I didn't before and I understand why these characters feel the way they feel and the way they act plus the story telling is fantastic!
Oh yeah by the way, for episode 18 where Subaru asks Rem to run away with him. The author actually made a spinoff story about this, where the two of them actually go to Kararagi, buy a small house and have 2 children together. Rem's a great mother also she still whips out her morningstar from time to time. The sidestory is only updated every Valentine's tho, iirc.
At the beginning when Puck says to Betelgeuse you'd need to create 1,000 shadows to stand a chance to kill him he is referring to 1,000 unseen hands, as opposed to the few dozen he can make and use. Which is what he had just blown away. It also gives you some idea as to Pucks strength in the world (since "half what Satella could" means 1,000 so Satella could make 2,000 and she's one of the strongest beings in the verse), so he's saying you'd need to be at least half of the Power that Satella the Witch was to be his equal. And, of course, he was being hyperbolic when he said he "would now destroy the world". That might be his intent but by his own admission he isn't a Satella-level threat (while still massively strong).
@@-Time_Stamp__-Mind.Set-___ It is pretty much directly implied that he has at least seen her and seen her fight or else he couldn't make the comparison. He is also ancient so hundreds of years in the past is no issue. And while we don't "know" he is attacking witch cult members so it is sorta assumed he isn't on good terms with them or Satella.
just so you know, puck is contracted to destroy the world by a certain greedy girl. not because he has any chance to do so, but becasue if he try to do so, reinhardt will show up and kill him, granting him at least death, because spirits cannot suidice and he didnt wanted to live without emilia. the greedy girl in question was being cnsiderate to his probable pain he would probably had to face off in the future.
With episodes 13-17 and by seeing him at his lowest, people tend to forget how awesome Subaru is and all the amazing things he did. Like seriously, he did some very impressive and kind stuff, he really is a gem. He's going through a lot sadly
Yeah people are being to harsh to Subaru, that's why it's so hard for me to see the reaction to this episode, Subaru has right to being mean (even if that is not right), he is broken. And even some novel readers say he is a bad person when he clearly isn't and just a good person who makes mistakes.
It's not like I don't see why their opinion does a 180, because my opinion did a 180 as early as episode 13. But it is strange how we can discard what we know of a character and turn to hating him as if what he did before no longer matters. Rem didn't forget. You could say the same thing happens to certain villains turned heroes, when their previous actions really shouldn't be handwaved away
@@GunNlazorthey miss that every pov is filtered through the character's bias. Subaru's pov convinces you to hate him, and he personally considers himself the one he hates most(above sin archbishops). It's not a coincidence. Like in Golden Siblings, which is from Frederica's perspective, Roswaal is described in an incredibly rosy light as a noble genius who gifts his subjects with technological/magical advances. Then Garfiel gets annoyed about her ability to see him that way in the last few pages. Half of the clever writing in re zero is that every pov clashes with another somewhere, showing you how the story you're reading is constantly adding biases.
I'm sure there's others that have mentioned it, but an interesting thing to look into is the side story the author made off of this, a what-if where Rem agrees to run away. It brings along some fascinating lore for the world too.
Little bit of clarification, I believe this was explained a bit in previous episodes but not very well. The whale can kill people normally and those people are remembered, it's only when the whale attacks with the fog that those people stop existing. Basically the fog is the real threat.
Subaru's I hate myself speech is soo GOOD just because even after all the stuff he's tried the solution he came up with was keeping the one person who has at least some feeling of hope for him and Rem's Subaru that she sees is what saves him is what is very Relatable. Even if you've fallen so far down it's always the people who've had some faith in you that pull you back up. This is one of my fav. episodes by far and the one reason I can see Subaru as one of the best protagonists in Anime as a whole this whole thing after this episode is what gets Fantastic.
Fun fact, the author of RE: Zero makes "IF" stories for moments that didn't happen in the light novel. There's an IF of Subaru, Rem, and their family if they had left together here. Including actual art of his family from that IF. Once you've watched both seasons, and if you still love RE: Zero as a story - you might indulge in some of the IF stories as well. They're all so so amazing.
back in episode 8? i believe, betty stated that satella drained half the world dry, so yea she is op. puck is a great spirit, more info in the movie/ova frozen bonds.. really recommend watching it after season 1
and in the novel its said she litterally disintegrated half of the world, which speaks a lot about her power level, as well as how shes depicted to be unable to be injured or killed.
i appreciate that you understood the value of Rem's words as well as Subaru's response and didn't want Subaru to die in that moment, especially considering his "I love emilia". You understand that even though Rem got rejected, this is still an incredibly valuable moment for both her and Subaru, and we wouldn't want to let that go. It's clear that scene gets a lot of uproar because people get blinded by Rem as a character and end up hating Emilia just for that moment. They find it wrong that Subaru didn't choose to go with her, but people just fail to realise how selfless Rem is as a character, i don't think rem could ever accept an "I love you" from Subaru because she knows he loves Emilia, Rem is doing this purely because she loves Subaru and wants him to do what makes him happy. And as you said, Subaru can't force himself to love someone, and he can't force himself to stop loving Emilia, it's just how it is and that's life.
@@doublehit9165 debatable, Subaru probably doesn t even know what love really is, until vol4 happens he doesn't even see Emilia as a normal girl, but as some kind of perfect being. After that he gets better tho.
right? well, we will see how it goes, especially since from that moment onward the author kept adding girls who has crusch on him (we are at 8 as of now)@@deadline6149
One of my favorite things is when you have happy music in a moment that is otherwise very intense and yet it only ads to the intensity. They do it in the Kaguya Hime movie, and here with Subaru's phone and the White Whale
14:05 No I think you've underrated Rem. In my opinion what emotion Rem have on Subaru, 80% would be dedication. So Rem would continue to trust him and walk alongside him on the journey.
I really do love this moment in the story. Subaru's self-depreciating speech and Rem's answer hit both really hard. I wonder if anyone noticed, but both Subaru and Okabe in Steins;Gate experienced a kind of time travel and the same pain associated with it... They tried to change things, to save someone, multiple times, failing repeatedly, to the point that they were both devastated.
Re:Zero episode 18 is one of the best anime episodes I’ve ever seen in terms of dialogue. It ultimately cemented Rem as best girl of Re:Zero for me and a lot of other people and it’s where I realized the genius of Subaru’s character. Both of these characters went through more development in this single episode than most other characters in an entire season of other shows. Subaru is probably the most relatable anime character I’ve ever seen. We finally get to see him fully break down. He talks about all his suffering and admits that he hates his life, which makes him a very human character. Rem finally confesses her love for him in a way I’ve never seen before in any (romance) show. All the words coming from her mouth are so sweet and loving, making any person fall in love with her. And after all that, Subaru still rejects her and tells her he loves Emilia. Now, many people hate him for this devision. But I personally think this makes his character even more interesting. I love that the author didn’t go with that typical harem route and instead made the protagonist only love one person and not let any words ruin his lover for her. This is why Subaru is one of the best-written characters in fiction and this episode is one of my all-time favorites.
Same! No other isekai does it like RE:Zero. The fact it can keep you glued over people JUST talking is an incredible talent. I cannot wait for those _two_ conversations next season now for Luke to see 👀
You mention the fantastic voice acting for Subaru, and I think about how it's the same voice actor as Senku from Dr. STONE lol. Two such different characters in emotions. I couldn't imagine all the stuff Subaru says and screams and cries about coming out of the mouth of someone like Senku lol
Subaru earned the love of Rem by being his genuine self and saving her life, what you saw in the last few loops were nothing, but Subaru's fears and anxieties bottling up until it finally released. Subaru was never a bad person and he still isn't, he doesn't even need to change his fundamental personality, he was already an amazing person who needed to know that he was worth being loved for who he is, not the false character he was playing. Subaru is just as sweet and just as caring as Rem, Emilia and many other characters in this series and with the hell he's been through I can't help but find him as the best protagonist in fiction. Also Subaru saved Rem first with his words in the mansion arc, which is the reason she can save him now.
I imagine Puck is talking about Betelgeuse's Unseen Hand. He's only got a couple dozen of them that we can see at a time, I guess. If we think of them as "shadows", maybe Satella could do about 2000
Satella doesn't have invisible hands in first place, its ability of sloth authority. Its the problem of translation, in original Puck stated that Geuse needs at least half of Satella's power AND at least thousand hands to win. Although, Satella creates hands. They're just not invisible, she uses normal yin magic manipulation.
Just to clarify the family relationship, Reinhard is the grandson of Theresia and Wilhelm, the title is passed down when the abilities of the master swordsman are passed on to a new person in the family, so there isn’t necessarily a new master swordsman for each generation
I love how you try to understand and not be so hard on Subaru when he didn't accept Rem... You're the best reaction I've seen so far, while some others get angry and speak badly about Subaru's decision, you try to see it in an objective and non-forced way. At least that's what I felt in your reaction. I've been following you for a long time and I really like your vidoes brother keep it up ❤️
It was stated during the big conference in the light novel that Emilia is contracted with Puck, the Great Spirit of Fire. It was understated back then, but the point that was being made (by Roswaal’s suggestion) is that Emilia has the power to destroy the country, but was willingly choosing not to use it as evidence of her inherent trustworthiness.
@@sammybutler3027fire magic in the re zero world should more be looked as being able to control the temperature of things it’s worded a bit confusing haha
Man, i really need to comment this and i hope you'll read that. You have been showing up in my home page for weeks, as i watch re:zero and other anime reactions, but i never clicked on yours. Today, i did. And what i and to say to you is that, ALL THIS TIME it was SO HARD to find someone reacting to re zero who i thought was really paying attention to stuff, you know? Someone which, when loses a sentence, go back on the video to read again, which tries to understand whats happening, and most important, which UNDERSTAND the world and the characters the anime is on. You were one of the first reactos who, although wanted subaru to corresponded Rem, understood that it's not something he can force himself on, who understand the suffering he was going through and the realistic person he is. You pay attention to what you see, and this just made me like SO MUCH your reactions. Thank you. Truly
24:51 EXACTLY! In any other anime, death is like the final border, it's done after that. A character dies, we get sad, and it's over for them. In Re:Zero, death is the least of our worries 😩 fantastic storytelling
32:27 just wanted to say here rem used aishtemas which is a way to say i love you to very very very special people in your life and it's not used for just anyone which just show how deeply she loved amd appreciated subaru 35:58 Re:Zero
People exoticize Japanese too much, 愛して (aishite) just means "to love" but in Japanese culture it is not common to be so direct, if you're not close enough it comes out as creepy, so the softer word 好き (suki) which literally means "to like" is used more often for professing feelings. It's not about being super mega special, it's about feeling comfortable enough with someone to use such a word. Different cultures have different ideas of when to use different words to a Japanese speaker English speakers use the word "love" too casually, but to an English speaker French people use the word aimer ("love") too casually.
About the whale and erasing people from memories and existence: - If the whale hit you, rip you apart, or kill you in any way outside the whale then you die normally - If the whale eats you, then you are erased from the memories
In the end we get here... a couple of curiosities about these chapters... the alarm tone on Subaru's cell phone is the same one he uses in the "snow memory" OVA, which is a super careful detail of the series. and one that gives me chills when I hear that tone... another detail is that what is written on Flügel's tree is written in Japanese and not in the Lugunica language. says flügel was here..! which adds more questions to the mountain that already exist in the series.😂
1:01:00 yup, it was around 15 on the clock, 3PM, and it is confusing, but remember that Subaru went out at night and arrived in what looked like mid-day Lugunica, so the phone still was on the Earth's time which was at night
I dont know if anyone mentioned it - but the fact that the clock says "15:17", but it's actually in the night, is because of the time shift. When Subaru left his world, it was in the night, but he appeared during daytime, so his Smartphone-Clock is way off, as it still tracks "real world time" and hasn't been changed to Fantasy-World-Time.
The anime cut it, but basically after the "from zero" scene, Rem told Subaru that she was accompanying him not just for fun, Roswaal sent her to negotiate with Crusch about creating an alliance between Crusch and Emilia, and the mining rights were the instrument of the deal. Tbh, there are plenty of stuff that was cut, but that's how it is with most of anime adaptations.
the white whale makes an area of its choice a hunting ground by covering it with fog, eats everything that means, not only digests the things it eats, wipes them out of existence, leaves only barren lands left, which is what makes it so scary that
One of the most misunderstood Episodes of anime history. Amazing how episode is basically “just” dialogue but the way it’s written and how Subaru breaks down and reveals he’s been thinking everything the audience has been thinking of him of himself. The song playing during Rems confession is called “Wishing” and is sung by Rems VA herself. Would love you to react to it! This is a great mirror to episode 11 where Subaru saved rem with his words and now she’s retuning the favor 2:23 (Time stamps based on the patreon vid) Remember Puck is even older than Betty. He might’ve been involved, but he also might just be old enough to be around at the time Satella was roaming around so he’s aware of her abilities and he was just telling Betelgeuse he can’t be killed unless he’s able to summon just half as many hands as Satella used to be able to control 4:15 To stay at Crusches place in the capital and get his gate healed. Also Puck is a big hypocrite here, he’s her contracted spirit but in the loot house and the witch cult attack he let Emilia die but expects Subaru to able to make a difference somehow even tho he doesn’t have a useful ability in the scenario of a fight. Also another Memory Snow foreshadowing, remember when Puck asked Subaru if he gave him the permission to destroy the world and said it’s just a joke? Yeah… 4:23 Nice you caught that, remember this info for the future 8:07 I always think it’s funny when people praise rem so much (you’re not the only one) considering if it wasn’t for the lap pillow scene and Emilia calling Subaru a good person she still would’ve looked for ways to dispose him somehow ☠️ 9:24 I mean he tried that before by asking the candidates and we see how that played out but also he was obviously corrupted by his anger towards the witch cult and not in his right mind since he just experienced everyone he loves be brutally getting slaughtered 10:58 well yes he wasn’t exactly sane ever since the events in the mansion I’d say. Arc 3 is the arc that has the most cut content in the light novel so a lot of scenes of Subaru outwardly showing signs of going nuts have been cut but his rash decision making and short temper have been signs of that there’s more than one way trauma can manifest in a person it’s just that it’s easier to empathize with some symptoms more than others. Everyone has been telling him he’s been useless and can’t change anything so after everything I think it’s understandable he came to the conclusion that he should just run away then since his involvement makes everything worse and he keeps seeing everyone die or is the reason for people dying like him drawing the white whale or the hand going for Emilia 18:08 I wouldn’t say that Subaru isn’t good enough for Rem. He’s been acting selfish and cringe but apparently that’s worse than killing and torturing him I always wondered how easily people can look past that 21:30 I think it’s more like how she sees him. To her he’s the one who helped her get over her past, saved the village and the kids, she doesn’t know about all of the pain and failures that piled up till he got there others only see the times Subaru made t work in the end 22:50 Now you also know why he was so chill about being brought to another world. He did try to change everything up to now the whole in the main character mindset just has been a front Subaru has put on because this was a chance for him to start somewhere from scratch Tbh it’s a bit sad that even with such important revelations about Subarus character you completely overlooked it because of Rem… It feels like you’re kinda just considering Rems feelings rn even tho Subaru went through hell and back several times also due to her involvement in the mansion arc. Still hopeful you’ll be able and connected with his characters better after one of the forthcoming episodes though! 35:25 The whole purpose of this arc has been to show that even if you do things and show all the kindness to someone you’re still not entitled to their love. This was the best thing he could do for Rem instead of just leading her on or being unclear so like in other anime you’d have 2 love interests fighting over the main character. Emilia was the first one in this would who was unconditionally kind to him, he had to put in loads of for for Rem to stop killing him. Rem knows he loves Emilia and that’s the Subaru she loves so him saying “I love Emilia” was Subaru signaling that he’s finally back to his “normal” self even tho after this everything that happened still won’t go away that’s the thing in Re:Zero everything has long term effects so he won’t just be “fixed” bc of this conversation the mental and emotional scars remain beneath the surface Cut from the anime but Roswaal sent Rem on a secret mission to negotiate with Crusch so Subaru did actually have the mining rights since he consulted Rem the episode before and she let him know Callback to last episode due to her wind reading ability Crusch knew Subaru wasn’t lying and told him to believe one’s own lies would be madness. On the other hand Rem said that she doesn’t believe Subaru has any affiliation to the witches cult which is a lie because she suspected him before and even now she knows he does due to the witches scent and Crusch was able to pick up on that 49:00 This dragon species is known for being “prideful” 👀 53:57 Agreed Crusch is definitely the best candidate out of all of them. Next episode will be great for her as a character 57:40 Anime cut content (no spoiler) well not exactly cut but you can’t see properly it says “Flugel was here” but in Japanese letters. Curious 58:34 never understood this scene as well because even though he knows the location because return by death it was the phone that told him what time the white whale attacked them in the last iteration 59:29 Callback to Emilia telling him she’d rather hear one thank you than a hundred apologies in episode 8 1:02:25 There is, the ring tone is form “A dog of Flanders” which has similar themes of Re:Zero and the dog is called Patrasche just like what Subaru called his ground dragon 1:03:50 Be glad you got to skip half of them this season bc the next one is gonna kick your but with the cliff hangers lmao
To clarify about the white whale, it's implied that they only disappear from memory if they are eaten by it. so as long as you don't get eaten their memory remains intact which judging by the fact that Wilhelm's wife has a grave and everyone still remembers her means she may have died fighting it, but didn't get eaten
Just to clarify, Subaru DOES love Rem. He loves both Rem and Emilia. It should be kind of obvious that he loves her, because he was literally just asking her to run away with him so that they could live their lives together and have a family. He just had already dedicated himself to Emilia, who was the first person to help him when he was transported to that world. Rem also was not shocked when he declared that he loved Emilia, because it was basically her goal there to convince him to continue trying to save Emilia. It still obviously was disappointing for her that he didn't choose her over Emilia, but she was expecting it
what i like is that it feels like the royal candidates have equal chances of getting the throne. sure, some are more preferrable than others, but you can come to like all of their personalities at some point. having crusch be the ruler wouldn't really be a bad thing, really
To give it more meaning Reinhardts family has a blessing called “the divine protection of the sword saint” (they are calling it master swordsman in this anime) which randomly gets inherited by only his family (it jumps from one person to the next only one person in the family holds it at a time) his grandmother was the one to hold it before him and obtaining it instantly makes u achieve ur peak skill with a sword and sword techniques so when Wilhelm said the sword chose his wife he meant it semi literally (note the blessing doesn’t require the previous holder to die the previous holder can just lose access to it when the next one gains it she just happened to die)
Yes Episode 18. The episode that divided the Re Zero community. I just say “Team Emilia”. (or rather Emilia x Subaru x Rem if I may be greedy) It was clear to Rem from the start that Subaru loves Emilia. She didn't want him to look for an easy way out and then run away with her. She wanted the one she loves to stay as he was (or as she sees him in her eyes). Many people don't recognize the true purpose of this scene and therefore complain about Subaru when he said "I love Emilia.". What's also impressive is that 2 people talk for 20 minutes and in the end it only feels like 5. And again promises and contracts are important in Re Zero: - 6:00 how important promises are especially for spirit art users. - 6:26 What a hell of a contract Puck and Emila have. Then in episode 19 some character motivations are revealed. Especially with Wilhelm it is now clear why he joined Crusch. Wilhelm is here in a Captain Ahab and Mobi dick situation (but luckily with clearer mind than Captain Ahab).
Ships in fandoms are generally the worst part of shows, people discount the authors intentions and the story as a whole just because they didn’t get with a specific person that’s so dumb
My heart melts let alone with those speech, and then when Rem Singing in the background, i know i wan't someone like Rem for me in real life 😭😭😭 Also, BATTLE OF THE WHITE WHALE!!!, Been waiting for this scenes!
This is the point where a lot of people hyper-focus on Rem and, loaded on all the bad will Subaru earned for the past few episodes, start hating Subaru full-time for not immediately loving Rem instead of Emilia. I'm still a little miffed you're being so hard on Subaru, but at least you understood the rejection.
So, the song that was playing at the end is Subaru’s ringtone (it started cutting off toward the end because his battery was dying). It’s the theme song from The Dog of Flanders, an English children’s story that was adapted into film many times, but notably in 1975 it was adapted into an anime. For reasons I will never understand, it’s considered a masterpiece and a classic in Japan. As another nod to The Dog of Flanders, the ground dragon that Subaru is riding, he later names (off screen) Patrasche, which is also the name of the titular dog of Flanders.
Puck is one of the 4 great spirits , reigning over fire . The magic system is different from other anime , like fire is the control of temperature so with enough heat fire is created but a lack of heat you get ice instead .
Subarus Dialog Between 33:35 and 35:30 was also cut in the 2016 airing so what we got was Subaru RemJecting Rem and her crying in his arms Which kicked off a two-year-long Flamewar until Darling in the FranXX episode 13 aired in 2018
What puck meant by the thousand shadows is that Betelgeuse is far too weak and that he'd need at least a thousand of those Unseen Hands to even stand a chance, implying that Satella, the Witch could do more than that. Basically puck is saying he at some point fought the witch and he doesn't come close to her.
"It means nothing" No Luke it does 😂 Puck is saying even if Betelgeuse were to be able to create a thousand Unseen Hands, that would only be half of what Satella could do, he's saying he'd need to atleast be on her level to kill him. Edit: The point of the Rem and Subaru on the roof scene was not for Subaru to fall in love with her but as others have said, it was to bring the Subaru that Rem fell in love with, back. The Subaru that loves Emilia is the Subaru who Rem loves. She knows that if he's choosing her something is wrong and she wouldn't want that. Edit 2: Crusch "Anastasia Hoshin?" Luke: "I don't know what her name is" Luke pls 😂😂😂
brah he meant that it means nothing to him bc he didnt understand what they meant by saying that about the shadows thats what he meant not that it means nothing to the story.
Author made a what if story Sloth Which breaks out of original timeline to different one where Subaru actually runs away with Rem to different place where Subaru and Rem gets married and have 2 kids. There are currently 5 what if Sins stories made by the author and Wrath and pride if is definitely my favourite since Subaru is absolute villain
Rem is a incredible character she's the exact support Subaru needed to carry him. This is were Subaru is faced with a very vital choice in his path. If he ran away with rem he would have been choosing sloth. There are other choices within the story which could have lead him down another sin route. But so far in the main timeline he has made all the right choices There are separate IF stories telling what happened if Subaru went down the route if sin.
Fufu the best episode in season 1. Subaru's speech of self hatred is very important. People hate themselves mainly because they can't change themselves. Also, Rem is absolutely lovely. She loves him so much. But remember, she dedicates her life to two people only. Her sister and Subaru. Her life revolves around them. And that, is her biggest strength and flaw at the same time. This will be addressed later.... I wish you luck
It's very mature of you to understand Subaru's feelings he cant love rem because he loves emilia and he cant change that so the fact you dont despise himlike many others but at the same time dont like him says a lot about your character
1:04:26 Subaru's ringtone alarm is the OP to a 1975 anime called _A Dog of Flanders_ Fun fact: Subaru ends up naming his ground dragon "Patrasche" after the titular dog from the anime
The part about the whale, they mentioned that "there were graves of soldiers without names", so they most likely only have the numbers but not the memories of their existence. The previous Master Swordman probably died some other way fighting the whale, or there are some weird exceptions
Like others have surely said, the 'confession' scene is my favorite not just in anime, but in all of fiction. This show managed to draw so many emotions out of so many people, by masterfully illustrating two people struggling with themselves and to understand each other. Before at the mansion when Subaru was backed into a corner, staring down the cliffside and mustering the courage to press on, it was ultimately his compassion for others and their compassion for him that proved to be something worth suffering for. This time, it was finding the will to have compassion for himself, and trust in the confidence Rem had in him, that brings him to the first true turning point in his life. Here we see that this is very much a coming of age story as well as a romance / horror, and what a phenomenally written one it is. Rem is my benchmark for what it means to truly love someone - because at the end of the day, what do these characters ultimately know about each other thus far? For all that Subaru loves the best of Emilia, or for all that Rem loves the best of Subaru, or even for all that Subaru appreciates the best of Rem, none of them see their true selves where all the ugly secrets and self doubt lie. Except for this moment, when Rem sees that the pathetic, self-loathing man in front of her and the hero that saved her are both one and the same - and she chooses to love him anyway. Truly loving someone means supporting them through the hard times, whether that be from outside forces or the struggles within, and we see Subaru taking that to heart when he thinks to Emilia and Rem, "I'm watching you (Emilia), and you're watching me (Rem)." For as much as people praise Rem in this episode, and her characterization truly is phenomenal, the growth and lessons Subaru learns shape him into my favorite character ever. Congrats on making it through the prologue, because the *real* show and the real lead side character starts now.
One of my favorite and least favorite episodes ever. This is why I always loved Rem. Btw each year the Author puts out a new IF story on April 1st. RE Zero If Sloth I think is the story about if Rem and Subaru did run away and get married. I really like that story. I recommend anyone to read the Light Novels.
The dialog Between 32:24 and 33:35 was cut out of the 2016 Airing so what we got was Rem I Love you Subaru Subaru I love Emila and the episode ended and a week-long Flamewar happened
24:44 yeah... Subaru's VA always breaks down when it comes to scenes like this. Imagine how many times is that LOL He's the GOAT ! Also fun fact : 1:04:07 the ringtone is the opening of an old anime called Dog of Flanders. The city of this anime looks like the kingdom in Re zero too and the dog's name of this anime is named Patrasche. Yes, the same name Subaru gave to the ground dragon. Subaru likes this anime a lot LMAO
In an alternate timeline Rem accepted Subaru's proposal to runaway... They married and had kids lived happily at a place called Kararagi that's closely similar to edo Japan. Source: Novel 😊 Also... Everyone: Rem best girl!! Subaru: Emilia daisuki ❤ 😂😂
Damn when the song hits at 31:05... Really episode 18 was beautifully done. You should definitely listen to the Rem's song that is playing (with lyrics/subtitles on). It is sung by Inori Minase the voice actress of Rem so it has even more impact, its name is "Wishing".
No one talks about the insane argument Puck gives for Subaru and calls him Slothful. He says that Subaru broke a promise to Emilia by coming back, then he ignored her wishes by coming back and then he let Emilia die. These things don't go together. Subaru can't respect Emilia's choices and keep his promise while stopping her from dying. The two cancel out the one in this as if he does respect her, she dies. And as for Slothful. Puck did absolutely nothing to protect Emilia at all in any of this. Subaru tried, he tried to get her to move and she wouldn't. The only slothful one is Puck in this as he sat by and did nothing during all of it until after the event. A lot of the things that Subaru is said to have been acting like, other people are guilty of. For instance, Priscilla calls him greedy like a pig. But what is more pig-like greed than simply wanting to be Ruler because it's there? Same with Anastasia, she calls him a coward but needs an army around her to talk to one man.
Well he praises Subaru as being one of the best written main characters. Rem just really shines in episode 18. It establishes how important she is in his life. She is his life raft in an ocean of misery, pain, and self hatred.
@@jeremymount795that’s literally the only thing he said in a episode that’s a full 25 minute dialogue. Rem is great and all but she definitely not this innocent sweetheart he makes her out to be. She literally killed Subaru several times and only is affectionate with him now because he saved her despite all the suffering and trauma she put him through but everyone seems to forget about the mansion arc this part of the story even tho it’s just a few episodes ago
To be fair, the fight with the White Whale you're remembering was just Rem hitting it a few times, plus a bunch of merchants getting the heck out of there. This is a whole army

A full twenty minute dialogue between two people, presenting the most sincere confession in the history of animation
The most heart touching episode I've ever seen
and in 2016 it was edited down to fifteen minutes
Yea i waiting on this moment and this is why Rem is the best here.
I remember when it aired, the hole episode was that dialogue and I coudn't be happier
Now he needs to watch the hitler reacts ep 18 of rezero 😂
I absolutely love episode 18. The fact that we just stand there watching characters talk is pure gold. No opening, nothing. Just pure raw emotions. The scenography is perfect. The voiceacting. the music. Love it.
So so so sooo good! They did an excellent job on it!
@@GOTGamesreminds you of AOT Season 2 Episode 6 "Warriors"
Man using the celphone ring as a tense music is still one of the best artistic choices I've EVER seen in any media...
It's just perfect!
It reminded me of the scene with the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3. I know it's not a great movie, but I always thought the choice to use the swallowed phone ring tone was strangely terrifying. As a way of saying to the audience "it's here, but you can't see it"
100% that ringtone was eerie AF.
Ah of course! 💯
Subaru is Flugel theory seems to have some weight lol
Btw never read the novels just heard a few things but generally unspoiled
I didn't know about the name on the tree being Flugel... that is very interesting! The timeline for that signature makes me raise an eyebrow... Can't wait for the show to clarify
the biggest shocker there, is the fact that its written in japanese
implying that flugel was also from japan
also, its interesting to know that, during the mansion mystery, subaru writes in his notebook "subaru was here" in iirc, the same format
omg yeah i forgot about that
Fuck I spelled it wrong.
Honestly,....subaru's "I hate myself" speech hit me hard when I first heard it, ngl. Rem is a genuine sweetheart. There's no way you can hate her
She's boring, very basic. Her development is nice tho.
Im going to say this in the most non spoilery way possible, but I love that the show doesn't just drop this here. Subaru's feelings about himself and his past aren't something that just goes away instantly. Subaru is one of the most relatable characters in anime for it
@@FullHeart_Artremind me to come back after season three or four
I don’t hate rem but at the same time people don’t give Subaru enough credit for how forgiving a person he was. If I was killed multiple times by Rem and tortured I might just hate her regardless of how she makes up for it. Personally I like rem, but if Subaru didn’t I could see why
@@neptune.1692I respect your POV. 👍
"Subaru is one of the most realistic characters in anime" THANK YOU
the author wrote a what if story where subaru and rem run away instead, and they get married and have two kids and actually have a wholesome happy ending, of couse the village and emilia and ram die tho, the IF stories are written once a year on subarus' birthday, april 1st aka april fools day
I’m a bit confused about that then, if Emilia died doesn’t that mean puck destroys the world? Or is puck actually not strong enough to end the world, since there are characters like satella, the great dragon, Reinhard, or others? I imagine with characters like that puck goes on a rampage intending on destroying everything but is actually not capable of it?
@@RoehdawgReinhard one shotted Puck, but before that Puck managed to destroy de surroundings of mansion.
@@Roehdawg in season 2 we see in one of the trials that Reinhardt would've killed puck if Subaru didn't have the return by death ability
that's actually genius, it's my first time hearing that as an anime only. Since it's april fools he can just release a fake chapter without anyone criticizing him and it also becomes a celebration for subaru's birthday once people get used to it knowing it will be a fakeout chapter about a what if scenario.
@@madscientist14
If it's the first time you've heard of it them I'm happy to inform you that there are many mores ! They're called the Sins If Route where Subaru could've turned on a completely different path if he made a different choice at certain point
The route where Subaru and Rem abandon everyone and live together is called the Sloth If, because he gave in and essentially choose the easy way out, but there's also the Pride If Route, Wrath If, Greed If, Gluttony If...
Even an arrogant person would humble themselves when faced by sum similar to what Subaru experienced tho, then again, I love Subaru, he's just him fr
The man has suffered so much is his past life and actual life that he deserves to choose what he wants, i respect the boy
Props to the VA of Rem & Subaru. It was the most compelling dialogue from any of the characters we’ve seen so far. It was so realistic that I have to keep reminding myself that this anime is an Isekai.
The voice acting was perfect!
Re zero might be an isekai, but it’s so unique and interesting that we all forget
Imagine being mad that Subaru has the freedom of choice and being honest. ☠️
I’ve never been “mad” at Subaru for saying he loves Emilia. I’ve always been sad for Rem for having an unrequited love.
@@unmemorablehero that is totally ok. It *is* sad
Spoiler
Don't worry emilia accepts, when subaru tells him he wants rem to be his second wife
im glad to see alot of people are logical about this and thinking subaru choosing emilia is the correct choise for him. it was an absolute hell while this was airing, some people dropped the whole series because subaru didnt pick the person they wanted him to pick. subaru fell in love with emilila in 1st episode and rem killed suabru couple of times but sure just ignore subarus feelings and pick rem instead because i like rem more. it was and it still is wild. cant even comprehend how someone would think rem is the correct answer here literally not even 1% chance of making a thought about that working out
It's finally time for the episode that made me bawl my eyes out like a goddamn baby
This is where Re: Zero went from a damn good show to my neverending obsession
He only seems to get punished if he consciously tries to reveal his Return By Death ability.
yeah it's seems like that
Although I wonder what would happen if he just wrote it down. Would the same thing happen that happened with Emila?
The scene with Rem and Subaru was so beautiful. I expect him to get back in time at least once more but still this scene was on another level.
It’s sad actually tbh
That from zero bit makes everything up til now seem like a prologue.
Now you understand the community's love for Rem, also Subaru´s voice actor was incredible
back in episode 8? i believe, betty stated that satella drained half the world dry, so yea she is op. puck is a great spirit, more info in the movie/ova frozen bonds.. really recommend watching it after season 1
and in the novel its said she litterally disintegrated half of the world, which speaks a lot about her power level, as well as how shes depicted to be unable to be injured or killed.
i appreciate that you understood the value of Rem's words as well as Subaru's response and didn't want Subaru to die in that moment, especially considering his "I love emilia". And as you said, Subaru can't force himself to love someone, and he can't force himself to stop loving Emilia, it's just how it is and that's life.
but later in the novel he actually confess his love for rem too. so the guy deosnt really know who to choose
The moment Rem says "Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu" (chef kiss...)
y'all can we vote for luke to react the the insert song which was sung by rem? its called "Wishing" by minori inase, aka rem's voice actor
Let’s go!
And Stay Alive with Lyrics
Y "door" ríe takahashi (emilia)
Dude, absolutely! 👍
They tried to change things, to save someone, multiple times, failing repeatedly, to the point that they were both devastated.
except that okabe did not died and did not lived with that painful memories in addition to that. still, both had a very rough life
Re:Zero episode 18 is one of the best anime episodes I’ve ever seen in terms of dialogue.
*cough*
Same!
No other isekai does it like RE:Zero. The fact it can keep you glued over people JUST talking is an incredible talent.
I cannot wait for those _two_ conversations next season now for Luke to see 👀
When she started giving out every detailed reason why she loves him, I'm like god I wish someone would say that to me. It's so poetic and genuine.
What's up Jancho!
J.K:Z³R0 here.
If we think of them as "shadows", maybe Satella could do about 2000
I think thousand of shadow means the invinsible hands. Satela seems to create 2k-ish hand based on Puck dialogue
I’m glad we’re at a point where reactors aren’t even surprised by the I love Emilia.
One of my favorite episodes. The dialog was just perfect. Absolutely love it.
Well this episode holds the record of many times a single episode made me cry, and it didn't change on the third watch. So amazingly done.
It’s ironic that Puck is the great spirit of fire as you say yet he uses ice magic
@@sammybutler3027fire magic in the re zero world should more be looked as being able to control the temperature of things it’s worded a bit confusing haha
@@SmthPositive_ oh that’s pretty cool lol
32:27 just wanted to say here rem used aishtemas which is a way to say i love you to very very very special people in your life and it's not used for just anyone which just show how deeply she loved amd appreciated subaru
35:58 Re:Zero
People exoticize Japanese too much, 愛して (aishite) just means "to love" but in Japanese culture it is not common to be so direct, if you're not close enough it comes out as creepy, so the softer word 好き (suki) which literally means "to like" is used more often for professing feelings. It's not about being super mega special, it's about feeling comfortable enough with someone to use such a word. Different cultures have different ideas of when to use different words to a Japanese speaker English speakers use the word "love" too casually, but to an English speaker French people use the word aimer ("love") too casually.
All i can say about episode 18, is Godly, a masterpiece of an episode.
About the whale and erasing people from memories and existence:
- If the whale hit you, rip you apart, or kill you in any way outside the whale then you die normally
- If the whale eats you, then you are erased from the memories
The deal that was being made with Crutch and the mining rights was skipped content. Rem was working on that deal during the time they were there.
This is a great mirror to episode 11 where Subaru saved rem with his words and now she’s retuning the favor
2:23 (Time stamps based on the patreon vid) Remember Puck is even older than Betty. He might’ve been involved, but he also might just be old enough to be around at the time Satella was roaming around so he’s aware of her abilities and he was just telling Betelgeuse he can’t be killed unless he’s able to summon just half as many hands as Satella used to be able to control
4:15 To stay at Crusches place in the capital and get his gate healed. Yeah…
4:23 Nice you caught that, remember this info for the future
8:07 I always think it’s funny when people praise rem so much (you’re not the only one) considering if it wasn’t for the lap pillow scene and Emilia calling Subaru a good person she still would’ve looked for ways to dispose him somehow ☠️
9:24 I mean he tried that before by asking the candidates and we see how that played out but also he was obviously corrupted by his anger towards the witch cult and not in his right mind since he just experienced everyone he loves be brutally getting slaughtered
10:58 well yes he wasn’t exactly sane ever since the events in the mansion I’d say. Everyone has been telling him he’s been useless and can’t change anything so after everything I think it’s understandable he came to the conclusion that he should just run away then since his involvement makes everything worse and he keeps seeing everyone die or is the reason for people dying like him drawing the white whale or the hand going for Emilia
18:08 I wouldn’t say that Subaru isn’t good enough for Rem. He’s been acting selfish and cringe but apparently that’s worse than killing and torturing him I always wondered how easily people can look past that
21:30 I think it’s more like how she sees him. To her he’s the one who helped her get over her past, saved the village and the kids, she doesn’t know about all of the pain and failures that piled up till he got there others only see the times Subaru made t work in the end
22:50 Now you also know why he was so chill about being brought to another world. He did try to change everything up to now the whole in the main character mindset just has been a front Subaru has put on because this was a chance for him to start somewhere from scratch
Tbh it’s a bit sad that even with such important revelations about Subarus character you completely overlooked it because of Rem… It feels like you’re kinda just considering Rems feelings rn even tho Subaru went through hell and back several times also due to her involvement in the mansion arc.
Rem knows he loves Emilia and that’s the Subaru she loves so him saying “I love Emilia” was Subaru signaling that he’s finally back to his “normal” self even tho after this everything that happened still won’t go away that’s the thing in Re:Zero everything has long term effects so he won’t just be “fixed” bc of this conversation the mental and emotional scars remain beneath the surface
Cut from the anime but Roswaal sent Rem on a secret mission to negotiate with Crusch so Subaru did actually have the mining rights since he consulted Rem the episode before and she let him know
Callback to last episode due to her wind reading ability Crusch knew Subaru wasn’t lying and told him to believe one’s own lies would be madness. On the other hand Rem said that she doesn’t believe Subaru has any affiliation to the witches cult which is a lie because she suspected him before and even now she knows he does due to the witches scent and Crusch was able to pick up on that
49:00 This dragon species is known for being “prideful” 👀
53:57 Agreed Crusch is definitely the best candidate out of all of them. Next episode will be great for her as a character
57:40 Anime cut content (no spoiler) well not exactly cut but you can’t see properly it says “Flugel was here” but in Japanese letters. Curious
58:34 never understood this scene as well because even though he knows the location because return by death it was the phone that told him what time the white whale attacked them in the last iteration
59:29 Callback to Emilia telling him she’d rather hear one thank you than a hundred apologies in episode 8
1:02:25 There is, the ring tone is form “A dog of Flanders” which has similar themes of Re:Zero and the dog is called Patrasche just like what Subaru called his ground dragon
1:03:50 Be glad you got to skip half of them this season bc the next one is gonna kick your but with the cliff hangers lmao
Nice copy and paste, but I respect it.
@@Jancho I’m watching it on patreon rn so I’m an hour early I haven’t even posted this comment on there lol
@SmthPositive__ well said for the 35:25 mark
@@kirim001thank you!
Well written comment!
Ugh finally the scene. This episode broke me. “Rem…I love Emilia”. After she poured her heart out like that.
Congratulations! You have finally finished the prologue of ReZero. Now the real story begins... 😊
i can never get enough of people reacting to episode 18 for the first time
👀
real story not gonna begins. S1 is only for introduction then S2 is for character introduction and characters past. Then in S3 real story begins
To clarify about the white whale, it's implied that they only disappear from memory if they are eaten by it. so as long as you don't get eaten their memory remains intact which judging by the fact that Wilhelm's wife has a grave and everyone still remembers her means she may have died fighting it, but didn't get eaten
Inori minase : Rem's VA and Subaru's VA : Yosuke Kobayashi . did just great job ! i just really really love them !
The Weaaaooooo sound is my alarm ringtone, usually I use it to scare my friend who saw Re:zero too
Just to clarify, Subaru DOES love Rem.
(or rather Emilia x Subaru x Rem if I may be greedy)
It was clear to Rem from the start that Subaru loves Emilia.
And again promises and contracts are important in Re Zero:
- 6:00 how important promises are especially for spirit art users.
I'm glad you understood that Subaru can't just switch up or just two time, also the sound was just an alarm Subaru made.
My heart melts let alone with those speech, and then when Rem Singing in the background, i know i wan't someone like Rem for me in real life 😭😭😭
Also, BATTLE OF THE WHITE WHALE!!!, Been waiting for this scenes!
Rem is the heart, and this show is hearless.
You can know more if you watched the frozen bonds movie which tells what happen to emilia before being with rozzwal
Subarus Dialog Between 33:35 and 35:30 was also cut in the 2016 airing
so what we got was Subaru RemJecting Rem and her crying in his arms
Which kicked off a two-year-long Flamewar until Darling in the FranXX episode 13 aired in 2018
Thats literally not true
What puck meant by the thousand shadows is that Betelgeuse is far too weak and that he'd need at least a thousand of those Unseen Hands to even stand a chance, implying that Satella, the Witch could do more than that. Basically puck is saying he at some point fought the witch and he doesn't come close to her.
"It means nothing"
No Luke it does 😂
Puck is saying even if Betelgeuse were to be able to create a thousand Unseen Hands, that would only be half of what Satella could do, he's saying he'd need to atleast be on her level to kill him.
Edit 2:
Crusch "Anastasia Hoshin?"
Luke: "I don't know what her name is"
Luke pls 😂😂😂
brah he meant that it means nothing to him bc he didnt understand what they meant by saying that about the shadows thats what he meant not that it means nothing to the story.
Please react to the full Song from Episode 18, REM (Inori Minase) - Wishing
A full of stand still dialogue episode and yet is the best episode of the season!
Author made a what if story Sloth
Which breaks out of original timeline to different one where Subaru actually runs away with Rem to different place where Subaru and Rem gets married and have 2 kids.
But so far in the main timeline he has made all the right choices
There are separate IF stories telling what happened if Subaru went down the route if sin.
32:52 This is where the Sloth Route aka Natsuki Rem route begins
Fufu the best episode in season 1. Subaru's speech of self hatred is very important. People hate themselves mainly because they can't change themselves.
Also, Rem is absolutely lovely. She loves him so much. But remember, she dedicates her life to two people only. Her sister and Subaru. Her life revolves around them. And that, is her biggest strength and flaw at the same time. This will be addressed later.... I wish you luck
subaru's voice actor went crazy
Always has been
It's very mature of you to understand Subaru's feelings he cant love rem because he loves emilia and he cant change that so the fact you dont despise himlike many others but at the same time dont like him says a lot about your character
1:04:26 Subaru's ringtone alarm is the OP to a 1975 anime called _A Dog of Flanders_
Fun fact: Subaru ends up naming his ground dragon "Patrasche" after the titular dog from the anime
Truly loving someone means supporting them through the hard times, whether that be from outside forces or the struggles within, and we see Subaru taking that to heart when he thinks to Emilia and Rem, "I'm watching you (Emilia), and you're watching me (Rem)."
For as much as people praise Rem in this episode, and her characterization truly is phenomenal, the growth and lessons Subaru learns shape him into my favorite character ever. Congrats on making it through the prologue, because the *real* show and the real lead side character starts now.
I felt like Subaru for many years. I still kinda do.. this chapter will always be a heartache for me
One of my favorite and least favorite episodes ever. This is why I always loved Rem. Btw each year the Author puts out a new IF story on April 1st. RE Zero If Sloth I think is the story about if Rem and Subaru did run away and get married. I really like that story. I recommend anyone to read the Light Novels.
The dialog Between 32:24 and 33:35 was cut out of the 2016 Airing so what we got was
Rem I Love you Subaru
Subaru I love Emila and the episode ended and a week-long Flamewar happened

Kinda annoying how he’s only gushing over rem completely ignoring any of Subarus dialogue
