REGARDING THE EPISODE RANKED DEAD LAST IN THIS VIDEO: EDIT: I have now made an entire video going over my thoughts on this one in greater detail and why I understand why so many think it's an amazing episode ua-cam.com/video/t320gVdVcbY/v-deo.htmlsi=4ia1msFcIACfNriJ Hey all, I've been seeing a lot of feedback and discussion regarding the episode I ranked last here, and honestly I think that's great! I like the discussions surrounding it and this video, and it's a mark of how great Re:Zero as a series is. Episodes I didn't care for others can say are excellent. I think I didn't do as well a job as I could explaining my reasoning for why it's ranked so low here though. First off, I think it's objectively an incredibly important episode for this series and very well made. I don't think there are any bad episodes of Re:Zero and I don't think that this one is. In fact, if Re:Zero was a generic seasonal and forgettable Isekai it would absolutely be the BEST episode without question. The reason why I ranked this one so low and the reasoning for all my other rankings is based off of my own personal tastes of this series and which ones I'd say are better to watch. Due to the nature of ranking every episode here one of them had to be last, and the episode I ranked dead last is because it just isn't one I like coming back to. I know not all episodes and all forms of media are solely meant for entertainment though, so I do think that this is was an episode the series needed, but it's still going to come down to my own personal tastes. I've rewatched Re:Zero multiple times, it's one of my favorite anime easily, no question. But, every time I've rewatched this series rewatching this episode isn't something I'm looking forward to. It's an important episode, one that's directed and voice acted incredible well. Subaru is a goofy teenager who doesn't know how to talk to girls and needs to learn the hard way that he's not in some video game or any other Isekai, that his actions have consequences. I don't blame him for acting and feeling the way he has though. He's been in Lugunica enough already but all the deaths and set backs he's already experienced and had to overcome/prevent have absolutely taken their toll on the guy. With this episode we see him fall down as deep as you can get which sets up what he needs to do for the rest of the Arc and the rest of the series really. And for that reason, it's such a crucial point of this story. But, like I said, as for me personally, rewatching this series multiple times, it's really uncomfortable to go through each time. That's life though, not everything that happens is going to go well and you're going to make mistakes, that's just being human. We've all got moments in our lives that we regret doing and Subaru is no different. I think the best comparison for this episode is going through a rough breakup. Which is pretty much what happens at the end of the episode too. If you go through a rough breakup can you learn from it and become a better person in the end? Yes. Will you be able to learn much more about yourself and how others perceive you? Yes. Will you reflect on what got you to this point and how your words have consequences? Yes. But, is going through a rough breakup something you want to do? Something you look forward to? Usually, no. It's the best comparison I can think of because while it's not something you want to do it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO DO if needed. I'm really glad that this episodes exists, and I'm also really glad that so many people enjoyed it! Like I said, that's the beauty of Re:Zero, everyone can have a different set of episodes they think are the best. Just like for when I ranked Attack on Titan I loved seeing which episodes everyone else enjoyed too. There's no "right way" to rank this series so I didn't base it off of which episodes are objectively the best and I don't really want to do that for this channel for other series too. I don't really consider myself a critic, I just like talking about anime and sharing my love of it with everyone else. I don't want to give anything an aggregate review score based off the sum of its parts, I'm not interested in doing that, the review scores I give sometimes at the end of my videos are meant to be a joke and ones that you shouldn't take too seriously. Seeing how others view anime too is exciting to me and I love the discussions I've seen on this video and others! If you love this episode that is completely understandable, and I can absolutely see why. Some of the episodes I ranked really high are ones that see Subaru at his lowest in other moments too. The character development he goes through throughout the series is incredible and Subaru is probably my favorite MC of all anime, despite his obvious mistakes. The other thing I'll mention is that earlier this year I showed my best friend Re:Zero for the first time. After we watched this episode he honestly wasn't too excited to keep watching the series. That's a reaction I've seen from others online too from either this episode or episode 17. But, I encouraged him to persevere and eventually he started to realize why I liked this series so much and Subaru as an MC. This episode is ripping off a tight bandaid, it's not for everybody but it will lead to a better outcome in the future. So, once again, I really do appreciate all the comments I've seen regarding this episode and your thoughts on the series as a whole, so thank you all for commenting and watching this video! I'm interested in making more Re:Zero videos in the future and this video is probably my favorite one I've made yet. Thanks for watching, and I look forward to more Re:Zero discussion! :) A few other things too: - Thanks to those who are clarifying some things left out from the web novel that would've taken place in season 1 or 2. I wanted to base this ranking strictly off of the anime like I did for Attack on Titan since that's what I'm most familiar with and what's been presented in anime form. Yeah, some things are going to be left out, that's just with the territory of web novel adaptations unfortunately. I still think that White Fox did an excellent job with this series - Yes, I'm definitely planning on ranking season 3 and future seasons too. I'm not sure exactly how I'll approach them yet, but I'll have an idea when they're finished - I can't believe I talked about Re:Zero for over an hour and not once mentioned the outstanding musical score made by Kenichiro Suehiro, I apologize for not doing so, he is an incredible composer and I think he deserves so much credit for all the work he's done for Re:Zero and in other projects too - I technically mispronounce Subaru's name in this video. I know it's meant to be "SuBARu" and not "SubuhRu" but, I have a slight speech impediment and when I recorded the audio for this video it was over the course of almost a full week and after multiple attempts I just wasn't getting it down consistently so for the sake of just moving on and getting the video made I went with my awkward American pronunciation. I'll try to get better at it for future videos - Patrasche is still best girl
I think there's definitely a case for it, I totally understand why a lot of people consider it one of the best episodes, I knew it was a polarizing episode and I knew it was a polarizing choice to put it dead last in this ranking. I'm glad you and others really like it though! That's one of the best things about Re:Zero, there's so many ways you can rank the episodes and ones I wouldn't rank as highly others would put near the top. Thanks for the feedback, I definitely could've explained my reasoning for it ranking last here better though
@actionfirst I can still understand why a lot of people don’t vibe with it, especially on the first watch. You don’t get the context for why Subaru behaves this way until later in the season. Honestly I didn't know just how insecure Subaru really was at this point when I first watched it. The reason why I love this episode as much as I do is mostly because of the way many different characters interact in very nuanced and multi layered ways. The hidden intentions of Julius, the way we see Emilia get explored and is forced to show sides of herself we didn't know about yet and of course the exploration of Subaru's immense flaws and insecurities. The directing is also on point during this episode. Hopefully this episode will grow more on people over time.
@@TrollingDemonz that's a great point! And, you're right about all of it, I'm glad that a lot of people are really able to enjoy it when it's definitely not for everyone but that just makes me appreciate the episode and Re:Zero as a whole more. Thanks for the response, you've got a great point!
Couple Roswaal notes: Roswaal didn’t attack the oni villiage. He just knew it would happen cause of the book, and didn’t stop it And second, he knew Subaru could loop. But he didn’t know dying triggered it. Hence why he beat Subaru up and tried to “force” him to loop
@@actionfirst no prob, there’s some sad cut content lol. You know about Al? Or about Satella’s split personality? Those were both very big cuts in the first 2 seasons, that anime-onlies should really know. I wouldn’t mind explaining them
@@SilverSaw988 let's see if they're brought up in season 3, it's borderline impossible to add everything for a web novel adaptation in general so unfortunately some things are going to be cut but they did a great job making the episodes on average longer so that they could fit more in
@@actionfirst Ok. No spoiler here, but Some novel readers who watched episode 1 of season 3 at an event said that they didn’t mention the Al cut in the episode. Which is really sad, since it would have been one of the best times to add it in and it’s insanely crucial to his character and the entire story. But I can get back to you after some of season 3 airs if you want
Episode 13 is one of the best episode of Re:zero.. bro. It’s what leads to episode 18 and all the arc 3 greatness. And it makes sense as to why it goes this way. But I get what you mean I suppose
The reason why 18 is so good is because 13 inflicts very negative emotions on the viewer. You don't even know of 13's greatness until you take a step back and realize how important it is.
Memory Snow is canon and takes place after Olgarm arc. It ends with his date with Emilia. It has a lot of foreshadowing and lore. Plus, it's the last truly peaceful moment of Re:Zero in the entire series basically
@@Drippy07 yes and no, because a certain person is gone for a couple arcs which stresses Subaru out completely, even if his life settles for a time. That's what I meant by "truly" peaceful. And by the time that person returns, he is thrust into war so
I thought about doing that whole bit in the scooby voice but man that would kill my voice and I recorded audio for several days straight doing this so I decided against it lol
26:54 Actually Ram used her wind magic to slice his throat offscreen. Rem tortured Subaru for hours and then healed him to prevent him from dying. Really showcases Rem’s hatred for the Witch Cult. What would happen if Subaru gives into his sinful wrathful nature after Rem brutalizing Subaru? Wrath route IF story Oboreru is that very story.
This video was really easy to watch and a textbook way to engage the fans. I loved it a lot. I probably should check your other videos shouldn't I lol.
I was so happy to see your top 3 aligned with my top 3. Those were the biggest episodes in Re: Zero that made me feel so much emotion. S2E4 made me cry both times I watched it. The ending of Ep 15 left my jaw dropped for a literal 5-10 minutes and I stopped watching the anime for a few days, not because I didnt like it, but because I wanted that impact to fade away before I kept watching. And I've watched Ep 18 so many times. The "I hate myself" and Rems confession hits so hard. That episode alone is one of the main reasons why Rem is one of my favorite characters in all of anime. She treated him horribly at first, but she is such a sweetheart when she realizes what kind of person Subaru truly is. Re: Zero will always be my favorite anime! Good job with the video! And I defnitely agree with Ep 13 at the bottom. It's good, but Subaru not reading the room and pissing off all the knights is what gets me every time.
@@eliasvsaa I definitely don't think it's a bad episode and needed to happen for the story to go the way it did but it's really hard to rewatch on repeated viewings
@@peng939thats gotta be on my top 3 episodes of all, just cause of the discussion of emilia and subaru at the end, the directors cut doesnt make it justice, the original episode had perfect music choice which hit me in the feels fr, only a couple of episodes of rezero made me feel that way tbh
gosh i fell in love with rezero even harder, i just finished the video, i am feeling so well rn. I legit was having a mental breakdown before this. This is such a great video, I hope you continue.
The thing episode 13 is that there's a lot going on with Subaru's internal feelings in that moment but it's hard to understand it as a viewer. Even I didn't until the second rewatch and multiple explanations so I understand anybody who says Subaru is just acting like an asshole. To put it shortly, he's not just being over the top or stupid when he does all his (extremely cringeworthy and stupid) actions. His connection to Emilia at this point isn't healthy as he kind of sees her as his pillar of light since she is the only one who has unconditionally helped him in this world so far and he's scared of losing her and being alone again. That's why he is so aggressive when Julius kisses Emilia's hand since he doesn't want anyone to take Emilia away from him. It's especially evident when he starts yelling at Emilia saying he's done everything for her. It's his final attempt to get her to not leave him by pinning a lot of debts onto her so she has to stay. It's definitely a toxic episode but largely misunderstand by everyone who watches it, even big fans. At this point he's still just a teen who's gone through way more pain than the vast majority people. Even I probably don't understand everything about the scene yet.
@@adiamon3349 great writeup, yeah it's definitely an episode where he needs to realize he's not like just any other Isekai protag as he gets hit with a huge wakeup call. I didn't think it was a bad episode but overall just the one I enjoyed watching the least, I could've done a better job explaining my reasoning
52/52 First pick and we are already wrong. This is gonna bode well. For all intense and purposes this is top5 most important episodes in the series because of the turning point in Subaru/Emilia's development
yeah, it's crazyyyy, seeing that pick I stopped the video and scrolled through all the rest, because I had a feeling this is not gonna be worth the time, low and behold, I was right :)
I totally get the episode 13 placement, I understand its importance, but man it is just such a hard watch, especially at the end. My personal favorite is 18, probably of all time, it is just so beautiful and just a perfect turning point for Subaru. Great video!
Oh my god, episode 18 felt like a sip of water after an endless thirst. An episode consisting entirely of one dialogue immediately became my favorite moment in all my time watching and reading content. I still can’t imagine how it was possible to create such perfect dialogue, every part of which fits perfectly into every second of this episode. Thanks to this episode, I became completely invested in Subaru's character and again, this episode alone was enough to make Subaru my favorite character overall. I love this anime.
I knew going into this that the #1 and #2 episodes were most likely gonna be The Outside of Madness and From Zero (though I wasn't sure on the order), and I do agree with your ranking for the most part (though I too would have moved some of the others around). There are a lot of things I love in From Zero, but I want to mention a few things I love about it that weren't touched on here: 1. I love how Rem just lets Subaru vent his frustrations, and doesn't rebut the things that he's saying about himself. He acknowledges his flaws, and she doesn't deny it. She just points out positive or heroic things he's done that he's taken for granted. Subaru is aware of his flaws, the audience is aware, and Rem is aware. I also love how Subaru finishes opening up about his frustrations, and then Rem's theme quietly starts playing as she quietly but firmly takes control of the conversation. 2. I love how the episode in essence turns Return by Death as a metaphor on its head. What I mean by that is I would argue there's at least a sense where RbD before this point (and some after as well) was partially used as a metaphor for Subaru going through cycles of depression and self-loathing. He would have a phase where things were going well and he thought he was doing a good job, and then it would go horribly wrong. At the beginning of From Zero, he's reached a point where he has acknowledged his flaws and mistakes, but he's gone past the point of having a healthy perspective on those things into believing he FUNDAMENTALLY can't escape the cycle. He will always make mistakes and never learns. Rem does not know about RbD, but she still transforms the whole metaphor to saying "you made a mistake, but you have a fresh start, so learn from it and move forward." It's changing the metaphor from a negative to a positive, and it fundamentally alters his worldview going forward. 3. Finally, on the "I love Emilia" scene. This moment gets memed a lot, and Subaru's taken some shit from the community over the years for essentially rejecting Rem in favor of Emilia, but I think reducing the exchange to a failed love confession is an oversimplification. Rem knows how much Subaru admires/respects/loves Emilia and sees the good in her despite Emilia not always being able to see it in herself. Would Rem have been happy if Subaru had reciprocated her feelings here? Absolutely, but I would argue that's not why she said it. I would argue that the reason she said all that is to show him that while he holds Emilia in such high regard but still hates himself, there is someone out there that regards HIM just as highly. Subaru was trying too hard to make himself worthy of being by Emilia's side, that he had a high enough value to be with her. Rem wanted to help Subaru see that he ALREADY had value, he just needed to see it. He should still try and improve himself, but he's not worthless and he shouldn't view himself like he is.
@@sonlen796 excellent writeup! I could've spent 10+ minutes talking about From Zero and the Outside of Madness in their own right, but I agree with everything you said. It's such an incredible episode and moment for the series and comes at the perfect point in the story
Brilliant video! I watch it to catch up a little bit with the start of the new season, but was left feeling a little bit emotional. You really captured what I love so much about rezero! Great work brother! You earned a sub!
Dude! Your so underrated you've earned a sub. Watched the whole vid without getting bored a single time(perhaps its cuz of my love for rezero but) your description really hits home(made me get whiplash a lot), so hats off to you. k YAP session I started getting into anime abt 2 yrs ago and I watched rezero last year and it brought me into depression but it instantly became my top 2 (the other is mobpsycho100 cant pick). But Parent and Child although may not be the best on paper, it really connected with me(made me cry for half an hour straight) and I had to go hug my mom and tell her i love her. No matter what anyone says its my favorite ep in all of fiction.
Thanks for watching and Mob Psycho 100 is peak too! Parent and Child was pretty close being my number 1 pick, it's an episode that honestly every Isekai should have yet don't and that's part of the reason why it's so incredible. Hope you're doing well now!
@@actionfirst Thanks for worrying but I was 15 so I was far more emotionally vulnerable and it wasn't anything life ruining just a bit of existential dread but it only lasted for about a month so I'm absolutely fine. Untill s3 rolls around at least.

@@actionfirst I don't think you could've timed this better with the new season. Your videos never fail to get some solid belly laughs from me, and I'm really glad you're a content creator.
@@air5723 I appreciate it! I'm glad you enjoy watching my content! Can't wait to make more videos too, and this is just the beginning of me ranking Re:Zero episodes
Dude Subaru must be like the character who went through the worst shit ever in the history of reality and fiction. I have massive respect for him and he gives me inspiration.
Finally finished this video and I think it was very well done, I like the use of title cards for dividing the placements of each episode. I just finished a rewatch of both seasons myself and I share a lot of same opinions albeit with a few exceptions. I think you treat episode 13 harshly despite the uncomfortable nature being intentional and for how much it develops the world and Subaru's relationship with Emilia. As for myself my favourite episodes are definitely Parent and Child, From Zero and the witches tea party. The only episode of the series I didn't really enjoy was The Frozen Bond OVA. I thought it was far too long and slow paced for how little actually occurs and I would've preferred if it delved into events we couldn't have inferred through the normal series like possibly seeing Emilia first meeting Rem and Ram. Otto is the goat btw, can't wait for season 3.
Thanks for watching! I definitely get what you mean about episode 13, I think I could've done a better job explaining why I ranked it so low. I do think it's an important episode but one I don't enjoy watching overall which is why I ranked it so low. I really enjoyed the Frozen Bonds OVA especially since it does slow down the pace of what normally goes on in the show and focuses on the brutal isolation that Emilia had to live with but I can see it isn't for everyone.
A lot of people mad about episode 13 being last, but I do agree in a way. Ofc it is important and makes the scene where he becomes self-aware and rants about himself. Purposeful and well-made? Yes, but when ranking things, I place the moments I don't enjoy at the bottom. It's supposed to be cringe and make the watcher uncomfortable. I'm not going to willingly rewatch the episode on purpose. Impactful, but in a negative way for the viewer. Meaningful, but not enjoyable to watch.
@@missinglegs you're def not the only one who feels that way! I've seen a lot of people say that they really like it which I honestly wasn't expecting when I made this but I'm really glad that Re:Zero has episodes like this that yes may be polarizing between the fanbase but that's just the mark of an excellent series, it's definitely an important episode that sets up so much for Subaru's development and allows him to grow even if it isn't an episode that everyone will enjoy or think fondly of
Episode 15 has to have one of my favorite and imo one of best song pieces ever, silence and Requiem. This song places in so much more emotion and that the plays through the whole credits. Truly a masterpiece
Roswaal didn't actually attack Rem's and Ram's village. He knew it would happen bc of his book and didn't do anything about it, waiting until the end to take Ram (and Rem) for his plans. Roswaal isn't part of the cult. Anime should have made it clearer
@@actionfirst one of the few things i have a gripe with this anime. If just a few cut scenes and some dialogues were added, and some better animation and drawing and it would be absolutely perfect for me. Still adore it.
Episode 15 is just everything great coming together in every aspect. Like, with Re:zero great episodes often have 1 thing that stands out over the rest, either great character development, great direction, etc but ep 15 had it all at the same time: great direction, animation, voice acting, perfect soundtrack, storytelling, huge stakes, despair, cinematically gorgeous, amazing villain introduction and the list goes on. All in all a perfect episode, independently on how much one likes the anime in general and imo still is a peak that the re:zero anime hasn't been able to reach again not even close and I say this being a huge fan of the anime
@@actionfirst well, the ss2 ep 4 is actually an ez top 3 while ep 15 ss1 and ep 18 ss1 are just domination to all re zero ep, one is great execution (everything happens after guese appearance were just perfectly horrifying and heart torturing while the va is just amazing), one is the greatest blessing to depression animes (not even kissing can be considered highlighted moment in ep 18 even if it is a love confession cuz every word that rem said were straight up diabete and the development of subaru also happened in this ep, after 2 words "from zero" of rem which the turning point of re zero)
i get why ppl consider the 1st episode you mentioned "bad" but ild argue that its one of the best eps of the series!if yu watched the series from the start then by that point you ve developed a connection with the characters and a strong connection with subaru, this ep takes advantage of that and actually makes you feel as bad as subaru feels at that moment but instead of yelling to emila what subaru was yellin to her,you yell to subaru what he yells to emilia!the ep is actually "painful" to watch for me and imo thats the highest praise i can give it!!there are anime that can hit an emotional point extreamly well and then theres re zero,an animu that can hit a lot of emotional points from one end of the "spectrum" to the other!! the "..it was hard.." whisper of emilia while she gave him a lap pillow always bring tear on my eyes, the rem speach always bring a feeling of something blooming in my chest, the "..get up!" that -xxxxxx- sais to him in the corridor of memories makes me stand up while cryin every time i read it(and its not even animated yet!) etc, etc!!! i love this story and i hope tepei-sensei focuses on it now that s.squad isekai ended.
As much as I love both From Zero amd The Outside Of Madness, the back to back to back triple threat of Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts, Choose Me and Offbeat Steps Under the Moonlight is one of my favorite run of episodes I've seen. The last ten episodes in general was a phenomenal run. Season 2 part 2 had no misses at all to me.
Personally i don't think Emilia is entirely in the right, i think the entire way she went about handling it was poor, especially with the timing of her and Subaru's conversation, and her unfortunate non recognition of him as a man, which likely fueled Subaru's insecurity, likely because of her age, not to say she was nearly as terrible as Subaru, to be honest, most of the characters handle things badly.... in episodes 12, 13, and 14 For clarification, The OVA was canon Holy, fair play, we have some vaaaaaastly different opinions, especially for 2 people who rate Re:Zero so highly. Just goes to show how peak this anime is! Great video mate, thouroughly enjoyed.
@@tmlarkynado7604 there's definitely different ways to take it but I still think Subaru went off the deep end with how he handled things. And thanks for the clarification about the OVA! I wasn't too entirely sure
I'd probably argue that episode 27 "the next location" is probably "the worst" because not much happens in the episode. You can practically turn your brain off or look at your phone for 90% of it and still know what's happening. Best for me is probably episode 15. Followed closely by episodes like episode 18 (From Zero), episode 29 (Parent and Child), and episode 49 (Choose Me)
@@Ellie_Infinity I like how The Next Location ends a lot plus I think the banter and bonding between Emilia and Subaru is pretty solid, but I can definitely see why people may not think too highly of it. Solid list of favorites!
For me its 4 episodes, one s1ep 18 i guess where rem confronts subaru.2nd best one of all time s2 episode 5-6 where he thanks to echidana meets his mom dad and tells his dad best one,and last two episodes of s2❤❤. Almost s2 every episode are 9/10 for me avg.
I feel like people hate S2 just for these reasons: 1) The style has changed, not for the better (understandable, okay) 2) There's no Rem (get over yourself, god) 3) This is very plot driven, not enough of action (get over yourself, there is) 4) Emilia annoys people (I mean, didn't Subaru annoy back in S1) 5) Only one location (Every god darn arc has been going on at one location, mainly) Sorry if this comes off as something too biased, sassy or mean, I'm really tired from all the S2 trashing.
yea, the () at 4 is unneccessary cuz people do see subaru as a scumbag back then in ss1. also the 5th reason is one of the biggest reason why i dont realy like ss2, it is so fricking repetitive. the 2nd reason is also one of my reason bc yes lololol, i still watch it bc ik that tappei put rem into coma for the plot, if she were still awake, the show would no longer be re:zero but Re:mu (zero means nothing and "mu" is nothing in japanese, i figured out this thing when i saw a comment of a vid back then)
For me 1)The Outside of Madness(1x15) One of best episodes in anime history 2)Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts(2x23) Very close second 3)The Value of Life(2x8) 4)The Taste of Death(2x11) 5)The Day Betelgeuse Laughed(2x18) 6)Witches' Tea Party(2x12) 7)The Permafrost of Elior Forest(2x19) 8)Wilhelm van Astrea(1x20) 9)The Beginning of the Sanctuary and the Beginning of the End(2x20) Most underrated episode i think 10)Choose me(2x24) Honorable mentions: The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry(2x13) Disgrace in the Extreme(1x17) Parent and Child(2x4) From Zero(1x18) Nobody Can Lift a Quain Stone Alone(2x16) Offbeat Steps Under the Moonlight(2x25) Otto Suwen/A Reason to Believe(2x15) The Newest of Heroes and the Most Ancient of Heroes(3x7) strong contender for top 10.
I'll defend Subaru in Episode 13 of Season 1. The show is clear that Death is traumatic. He has nightmares and signs of PTSD. Subaru tried to talk about it, he tried to go with the direct route of communication. When unable to do that, when facing the fear of losing the thing that centers his mind in this violent and cruel world, he panics. It wasn't a tactical decision, it wasn't a smart decision, it was an emotional, perfectly in character decision for a scared, scarred, 17 year old boy. Subaru did wrong, but I honestly cannot blame him.
crazy that your favorite ep is subaru monologueing by himself idk what you mean with a conversation you need 2 people for that but he was there alone it was still a banger ep tho for me it would be in 3rd and ep50 being 2nd and ep 49 being 1st w list
This is critisizm not hate, you have a pretty good list other than that IMO. 13 is top 10 bro, I i mean I understand why you think its the weakest but Subaru acting the way he does in this episode is top tier writing. No way its the "lowest" when its one of the most emotionally impactful episodes in the entire series. Also its one of the most important episodes that shapes the entire future by showing Subaru's weaker side, along with the consequences that come with it. Subaru acts dumb but he is not entirely at fault for acting this way. I'm not saying he shouldnt take responsibility, at all, but what do you think you would be like after a month of dying repeatedly?
Great video. The one I strongly disagree with is season 1 episode 7. That episode is min top 10. Thats the ep where Re Zero truly shows for the first time what its capable to do

@actionfirst I feel that, especially when you are working on a passion project that has you reviewing each and every episode, it’s gonna take a long ass time.
Im an anime only but im wondering about one thing. Was Emilia ever informed that Betelgeuse was trying to kill her in season 1? Because she never seems to comment on that fact at all.

Just a tip for cohesion. Start ranking each episode from the start to the end of the series. It’s chaotic when you jump all over the place. So start on episode 1 and start ranking from there if that makes sense
@@orstein_ I honestly thought about that and was worried how the video would flow since there's only two seasons compared to the four for Attack on Titan when I ranked all of that series' episodes. I'm satisfied with how the video came out but the problem was if I go episode by episode then the ranking itself is out of order and hard to follow and then the video would become more of a series recap which wasn't my intention. I can see your point though!
Disregarding biases, objectively speaking ep 13 is one of the beat eps of re zero. The execution of it was handled perfectly, perfectly showcasing the insecurities of a shut in and someone who's mentally 14 (which subaru didnt know at the time only making his reaction much more fair). However im not saying that it shouldve been placed higher, not at all. In fact i agree with the placement that its the worst re zero ep, enjoyability wise. Its incredibly hard to watch despite being wonderfully executed. But the fact is that this ep probably cemented the fact that re zero is not a happy-go-lucky anime, tho ep 15 is sometimes credited with that. This fact can be overlooked due to ep13 being hrd to watch and even harder to rewatch (ive rewatched the anime 6 times and its still not easy to watch, might be even harder since i already know whats coming tbh)
@@actionfirst Oh yeah! I was thinking of horses that you ride on but then I just remembered that they're an enemy that you encounter in the over world in the first game and some later games have summons of someone on a horse. Nvm
@@hylianfelldragon1308 it's fun to think about since we take for granted how often we see horses! I once watched a documentary about how the horse was the most instrumental domesticated animal to building civilization and so if a series doesn't have horses then they need some other animal to take its place. Re:Zero has Ground Dragons and Guild Wars has the Raptors and other mounts but idk much about the lore of them tbh. Horses are rare in final fantasy though!

@@Remistopwaifu I've watched both and enjoyed each in their own ways! The voice clips are sub or dub here depending on the context. REGARDING THE EPISODE RANKED DEAD LAST IN THIS VIDEO:
EDIT: I have now made an entire video going over my thoughts on this one in greater detail and why I understand why so many think it's an amazing episode
ua-cam.com/video/t320gVdVcbY/v-deo.htmlsi=4ia1msFcIACfNriJ
Hey all, I've been seeing a lot of feedback and discussion regarding the episode I ranked last here, and honestly I think that's great!
A few other things too:
- Thanks to those who are clarifying some things left out from the web novel that would've taken place in season 1 or 2. I wanted to base this ranking strictly off of the anime like I did for Attack on Titan since that's what I'm most familiar with and what's been presented in anime form. Yeah, some things are going to be left out, that's just with the territory of web novel adaptations unfortunately. I still think that White Fox did an excellent job with this series
- Yes, I'm definitely planning on ranking season 3 and future seasons too. I'm not sure exactly how I'll approach them yet, but I'll have an idea when they're finished
- I can't believe I talked about Re:Zero for over an hour and not once mentioned the outstanding musical score made by Kenichiro Suehiro, I apologize for not doing so, he is an incredible composer and I think he deserves so much credit for all the work he's done for Re:Zero and in other projects too
- I technically mispronounce Subaru's name in this video. I'll try to get better at it for future videos
- Patrasche is still best girl
it is definitely a hard episode to watch, even on rewatches since you know its coming
Real ones know S1EP13 is a 10/10 episode.

tbf most rezero eps are even in excellent tier
Couple Roswaal notes:
Roswaal didn’t attack the oni villiage. He just knew it would happen cause of the book, and didn’t stop it
And second, he knew Subaru could loop. But he didn’t know dying triggered it. Hence why he beat Subaru up and tried to “force” him to loop

Watching ep 13 even once with zero skipping requires either being reaaally patient or being out of your own mind

@@djreazy thanks! You and I have the same placement but I totally understand why others like episode 13 too
Oh my god, episode 18 felt like a sip of water after an endless thirst.
There are a lot of things I love in From Zero, but I want to mention a few things I love about it that weren't touched on here:

Roswaal didn't actually attack Rem's and Ram's village. He knew it would happen bc of his book and didn't do anything about it, waiting until the end to take Ram (and Rem) for his plans. Roswaal isn't part of the cult.
Anime should have made it clearer
@@inn1003 ahhh, yeah that part wasn't entirely clear in the anime, thanks for clarifying!
It is really hard deciding between the episodes I put in the top 3
@@chelsea6671 when I first made this I was worried my entire top 10 was just going to be me recapping the entire second half of season 2
Personally i don't think Emilia is entirely in the right, i think the entire way she went about handling it was poor, especially with the timing of her and Subaru's conversation, and her unfortunate non recognition of him as a man, which likely fueled Subaru's insecurity, likely because of her age, not to say she was nearly as terrible as Subaru, to be honest, most of the characters handle things badly.... in episodes 12, 13, and 14
For clarification, The OVA was canon
Holy, fair play, we have some vaaaaaastly different opinions, especially for 2 people who rate Re:Zero so highly.

@@Cloud-tq5lj bruh 💀
yea myth & roid made a banger with that opening. also got some other bangers like overlord openings and other endings.
Great video ...
I feel like people hate S2 just for these reasons:
1) The style has changed, not for the better (understandable, okay)
2) There's no Rem (get over yourself, god)
3) This is very plot driven, not enough of action (get over yourself, there is)
4) Emilia annoys people (I mean, didn't Subaru annoy back in S1)
5) Only one location (Every god darn arc has been going on at one location, mainly)
Sorry if this comes off as something too biased, sassy or mean, I'm really tired from all the S2 trashing.
yea, the () at 4 is unneccessary cuz people do see subaru as a scumbag back then in ss1. also the 5th reason is one of the biggest reason why i dont realy like ss2, it is so fricking repetitive. the 2nd reason is also one of my reason bc yes lololol, i still watch it bc ik that tappei put rem into coma for the plot, if she were still awake, the show would no longer be re:zero but Re:mu (zero means nothing and "mu" is nothing in japanese, i figured out this thing when i saw a comment of a vid back then)
Rare sight of someone rightfully giving S1 E16 a great rating
tbh I love s1 ep13 just cause I think iit had me at the edge of my seat skemtimed saying WHY DID YOU DO THAT and I love when that happens
For me
1)The Outside of Madness(1x15) One of best episodes in anime history
2)Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts(2x23) Very close second
3)The Value of Life(2x8)
4)The Taste of Death(2x11)
5)The Day Betelgeuse Laughed(2x18)
6)Witches' Tea Party(2x12)
7)The Permafrost of Elior Forest(2x19)
8)Wilhelm van Astrea(1x20)
9)The Beginning of the Sanctuary and the Beginning of the End(2x20) Most underrated episode i think
10)Choose me(2x24)
Honorable mentions:
The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry(2x13)
Disgrace in the Extreme(1x17)
Parent and Child(2x4)
From Zero(1x18)
Nobody Can Lift a Quain Stone Alone(2x16)
Offbeat Steps Under the Moonlight(2x25)
Otto Suwen/A Reason to Believe(2x15)
The Newest of Heroes and the Most Ancient of Heroes(3x7) strong contender for top 10.
Great choices! The Newest of Heroes and the Most Ancient of Heroes is a contender for my top 5 at this point for sure
i wanted to genuinely shoot something after episode 13, but its lowkey one of the better episodes
S1 EP13 might setup Subaru redemption later in the season but as a stand alone episode it’s not easy to watch and deserves last place imo
great video
I'll defend Subaru in Episode 13 of Season 1.
The show is clear that Death is traumatic. He has nightmares and signs of PTSD. Subaru tried to talk about it, he tried to go with the direct route of communication. When unable to do that, when facing the fear of losing the thing that centers his mind in this violent and cruel world, he panics. It wasn't a tactical decision, it wasn't a smart decision, it was an emotional, perfectly in character decision for a scared, scarred, 17 year old boy.
Subaru did wrong, but I honestly cannot blame him.
The best anime in all of history and time
Rezero season 3 in 6 days no way I just realised, thought it was mid October who's hyped
In my opinion, re zero is the greatest anime of all time
If anyone new looking to get into rezero i suggest memory snow it really shows what the rest of the anime will be like.
Good news is Memory Snow is entirely canon, and I love it.
Funny thing is that subaru actually is "that person" its Just it had to be beakos descision. Something echidna could've say to her.

@@yesitsme1214 your comment got me good 😆
This is critisizm not hate, you have a pretty good list other than that IMO.

Choosing between episode 15 and 18 is one of the hardest choices a human can make.
1:01:35 lol

13:28 Does Final Fantasy count?
Horses are in the series dating back to the original Final Fantasy (though, I had to look this up, I wasn't too sure myself)
