  • Here at JAS we fix problems...even unforeseen problems such as this one! When removing the exhaust (to remove the gearbox to replace the torque converter!) one of the exhaust manifold bolts snapped - leaving a section stuck in the turbo housing...this is how we went about solving the issue despite the restricted space!!
The bolts themselves are a heat-treated stainless and the turbo housing manufactured from a high-alloyed austentic cast iron...due to the excessive heat from the exhaust gasses and the age of the vehicle the heat-treatment of the bolts eventually breaks down and the bolt and housing start to seize together...this is the result!
Also, the relatively small size of the bolt (only 8mm in diameter) reduces the chances of being able to weld a nut onto the stud with sufficient strength to allow the snapped section to be unscrewed.
    Helicoil to the rescue!

This is the best land rover and possibly car channel I have ever watched. Your descriptions and detail are at college education level. I used to be a sound engineer for tv and film. If you need any help with your sound drop me a line. Also I don’t know what camera you use but a nice tidy ring lamp might be useful or possibly a few nice soft flat panel emitters on stands. Love your work👍

Very kind Cathal and thank you! This one was filmed on my iphone (lol), I now film on a gopro which has brought its own challenges (and also edit on Lightworks) but I'm considering a handheld DJI camera and separate mic as, yes, the sound is the biggest issue!

JAS LR have a look at something like this for a seperate recorder. That way dialog is always crystal and if you are working on something really noisy you can buy cheap over the ear boom to cut out the noise. www.amazon.com/Recorder-Lavalier-Microphone-Deadcat-Windscreens/dp/B07B9NDM9G/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Zoom+F1&qid=1574547890&sr=8-5
