The best things don't last -- would you live in a place with an interior you have full creative control over, fully knowing it will only be around for a year or so?
If I could afford 4k a month I'd be first in line for preserving the Nakagin Capsule Tower. It can't last but it is an ideal the is worth preservation. Glad to see you got yourself a channel.
We can dream can't we, lol! Im hoping he dials it down for a few videos and actually looks at SOMEWHAT affordable options and more or less realistic for someone with a good job would be able to afford. I do enjoy the video's as well.
As an architecture student, I believe this apartment is a work of art on its own. The rooms intersects through the soft play of light and shadows, combined with subtle material and level changes. I was really surprised at the level of detail the interior designer or architect put into this.
If you didn’t know, the previous owner is actually a famous model in Japan called Hikari Mori! She also did a home tour of the same place too if you were curious what it looked like before! ua-cam.com/video/mi0dsyvj_XY/v-deo.html

UA-cam recommended me a home vlog video the other day after I had watched this video and I recognised the pink wall paper instantly!! Hikari Mori use to live here! Her decor style was so whimsical, I loved it ☺️
It's such a shame that Japan is tearing down beautiful and unique looking building that are only decades old due to lack of maintenance and care. But it's also ironic since they're very good at taking care of structures that are hundreds of years old that will most likely never be torn down.
It's not 'ironic' - it's just the way they do things. Buildings for 'living in' are made to last for a few decades, then to be rebuilt, while other buildings are made to last longer. In Switzerland, where I live, for example, buildings are made to last a lot longer - BUT, you need to renovate them every few decades. The house I grew up in for example - if I stay in the area, I'll move into it within the next 10 years or something - and with that will come a huge renovation - it was built in the 70s.
Mate you are talking bs if the apartment was in a bad condition it would fall apart Tokyo is very earthquake prone and the regulations are strict, the apartment is just awful looks like social housing something that belong in the middle of Russia not something that's is in one of the most exclusive places in the world
WOW it has a REAL stove and a huge sink with sink space! That's the real deal there. So surprised. Too bad the place is coming down, but I understand I guess.
Man I wonder if you can make a arrangement with the owner of the building to strip out all the unique furnishings finishes and reclaim the wood and go refurbish some other Japanese homes get into the flipping business. You may have to go outside of the cities but man I bet you can get a bargain here and there. I wonder if that would work. Good job bring on more please
That apartment has a TON of beautiful potential, but it desperately needs a lot of repairs and TLC. Which, if it's set to be demolished anyway, would make all that pointless. That's a shame, but the building is also probably not up to modern earthquake standards, either, ssoooo
LOL @ 3:59 that was pretty funny. so was the comment about eveeyone seeing your junk. this particular video seems to have a lot of comedy with it. Love it. 😂 I hope the guy who dropped the water bottle didn't get in trouble
I like Japanese standard unit bath. So easy to clean. No nooks and crannies for water to seep in. Means less likely to have molds that cannot be reached
Well... That was/is a nice place. Dreading whatever soulless uniformic shell of an appartement they will be putting in place of if. Because surely, it will never be as creative and tasteful as this. I can imagine it already, just another big old block of boring utilitarian block shaped single bedroom/living combo to cram in as many people as possible.
You could already see cracks in the floors and walls good they build a modern building would be fun if you could go back and see what there is now and a tour or something.
The comments say that the previous owner was a model who had done a video on her apartment, so it's likely she has international ties if she's a big name.
The bathroom looks more luxurious than every bathroom in Berlin I have visited 😅👍 most Berlin Bathrooms are not that spacious - only if you have a very spacious place
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but: Would the shelves that had the wine glass racks attached to them also function as pantry/dry food storage? Also, was there space for a refrigerator anywhere? (maybe there was but it wasn't shown) Great video though! :)
You could definitely use them for dry food storage. Also, that's a good question about the refrigerator! I'm not quite sure, but maybe it could go under one of the wine glass shelves.
The place looks rough and needs a lot of work... If I were to rent the place, I would negotiate for half the price for the first year or term of the lease in order to account for that. Since it's going to be demolished, I dunno if the price is worth it
I mean if it wasn’t being demolished I feel the fact you can design it and do whatever you want is a huge factor for buyers, especially for how rare that is in japan.
@@astrowolvez ill grant you that, but im pretty sure if it wasn't being demolished the "do whatever you want to the place" permission wouldn't be there either. very catch 22 LOL

There's a reason they are the same...it's because they are not that expensive to put in and they are beautiful. Whenever I renovate my places, I always do something similar. Great value. You can get clean places at affordable prices. You say depressing, but I find the Japanese bathrooms clean and easy to clean where tiles make me feel like Im staying at a cheesy hotel. And I don't wnat to see UNDER my bathtub. To each their own, but I prefer Japanese bathrooms hands down. I allow my tenants to modify my places in the way they like as well...within reason.
What an interesting space. And that living area was humongous for a Japanese apartment. Came over to your channel thanks to exposure from Sharla, Chris, and Connor's channels. I know you seem to focus mainly on the higher end or weird of real estate, but you are constantly in the field getting exposure to housing costs in Japan. How far distance or time wise do you have to travel outside of the Tokyo bubble or center to reach the more reasonable or affordable places? Also, what have you and your business observed to be the relationship between affordability of housing in Japan and affordability of housing in other countries such as the U.S., where the housing market is going bonkers and needs a correction so that more Americans can be more secure in the affordability of their housing?
As long as you are not in the very most central parts of Tokyo (Minato, Shibuya, Meguro, parts of Shinjuku, Shinagawa, and Setagaya), then prices will not be too expensive. Japan's housing prices are quite low in comparison to other countries, especially the US, and if anything are starting to finally go up. Tokyo's prices may be higher than many international cities, but not all -- a normal 1-bedroom in central Tokyo costs about $1,000-$2,000 depending on the area. Try getting a 1-bedroom apartment in a central neighborhood in Los Angeles or New York for less than $2,000 a month! If you're okay with being less-central (and don't care about age of building), you can easily find a 1 bedroom for less than $600 a month.
@@TokyoPortfolio Wow, thanks for the very quick reply. Thankfully am not in the LA or NY area but am in the DFW area so not a very chilled down place for real estate prices right now either.
