NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Take a shot every time someone compares a single room to the size of their apartment.
So what's the verdict? Good value for money given the private roof oasis and location in the heart of Harajuku? Or simply overpriced mayhem?

Actually I was thinking $20K a month wasn't too bad for one of one Tokyo's swankiest neighborhoods until I remembered all of fees upon fees upon fees and the special added fee for the "privilege of paying fees" fee and the "just because we want to screw you even more" fee and finally, the "you gotta be kidding me" fee!

honestly this place looks like a dump for 20,000 a month. There are penthouse apartments for sale in Japan for 2-3 million that are WAY nicer with newer amenities. 20,000x 16 years is 4 million. You could get a MUCH better loan on 2-3 million and pay a mortgage on a better penthouse than renting this crap box.

      @@NeonShadowsx cool, thanks for replying.
i guess my info was more than a decade out of date. my ex GF in the 2000's was a US Embassy worker's kid in Tokyo. i don't remember when she lived there, exactly. i remember it was more than a decade in length since she said she even went to HighSchool there and Tokyo U for 9 months. then her dad left the US State Dept. Foreign Services Division for 'home service' here in the States.
plus i got the national density mixed up with the city in Tokyo. the 'urban footprint' city of Tokyo person per square kilometre is the highest in Japan! my bad i fucked that one up vs world stats. oops. :( 6,264 persons per square k
Paris by the way, 21,000 persons per square k... yes i can do the research. bla bla bla. but you know what, Paris is rather shitty because the city itself is 12,012 square kilometres where Tokyo is 13,555 so over a square k bigger in size.
that and i find Paris personally crap. it's insane to navigate. since i didn't speak French fluently every Parisian i interacted with treated me like shit. Google Translate talking out of my phone WOULD have helped, but not much. the taxi situations in Paris were a nightmare. i lost my ass using my credit card in Paris taxis.
of course i traveled for pleasure/business there before the EU was formed so. shrug. my situation is very out of date.
back then i found Heathrow a lot nicer than the city of Paris, but i didn't leave the airport in London. layover wasn't long enough to bother on that trip.
i enjoyed Berlin more than Paris on that trip. the Germans bent over fucking backwards once they found out my nein was almost all i had. seriously, a damn McDonalds' kid in Berlin got 2 other employees who combined had enough English to help me order in German. the Parisians? i got told to 'fuck off American' in every store. even McDonalds in Paris gave me a stink eye. and i can fucking count to three in French and German. so asking for a #1 wasn't that hard in either city.
Tokyo on the other hand is a public commuters' wet dream. nigh on 4 years ago old college buddy was there for fun. he downloaded the uhh oh god what was the company's name... Lobster Card? anways, he didn't even need cash, or a credit card, or anything, he set up the phone as a 'swipe' for trains in Tokyo for a week's duration. he typed in/set up 'i'm here, going here' the app did everything. it took GPS location, showed how to walk to the nearest station, how to navigate INSIDE the station, where to swipe the phone, what the trip would cost, where transfers were, up to date by the minute arrivals and departures, if you wanted to arrive somewheres by a certain time from a certain location it could tell you that too. it even told which side of the train to stand on for exit! :o damn app was like HAL from 2001 Space Odyssey.
BTW, my ex is working her way up the Honda North American corporate ladder angling for a posting inside Japan before 2030. since she's still fluently bilingual.

@@Shtifu Well it's in the biggest city in existence, so i guess 20k fits the market. The upfront 130k fee is straight out robbery though. The garden is not very japan'esque and the dog feet washer looks like a hobby craftsman did that lol.

@mezz a lot of Japanese building is like that. Even as an american I find their lack of....wall and window odd. Not enough insulation, not enough panes of glass, etc.
But on the whole, especially with houses. They view construction as somewhat temporary and not an investment. It's very common for a house older than 30 years to not really be considered in the price of a real estate purchase as it's just going to be torn down. Excepting the surviving pre WW2 construction.
A lot of the above has to do with classical Japanese construction techniques (wood and paper) and disasters. In 30 years the buildings after multille earthquakes reallyas sound as they should be and aren't up to the latest design codes. So might as well tear them down.

Of course they snore because they suffer from breathing problems and live in agony. They also are most likely to get eye problems. It should be forbidden to breed such dogs. I feel sorry for them.
No offense, maybe you didn't know better. On the other side, every pet owner should inform themselves thoroughly before getting one.

Haha thanks, at least I'm not the only one xD I also wonder how you could even fill that huge living room with stuff that is actually useful. Like you need a couch, let's say two big couches to see big, a huge home cinema, a big table, someplace to store the kind of stuff rich people like to expose to flaunt their egos (like cups of the richest man or whatever)... then what? The place would be at most 30% filled xD

Agreed. As much as I would like quite a bit of space, that was a lot of large rooms that would to go waste if I was living there; I need space, just not that much space.

Hearing how many times this guy said his entire apartment would fit into one of those rooms makes me really appreciate the living situation I have right now. I'm renting an entire house for the price of one room because the homeowner just wants someone to live in the place while his mom is still alive. When she passes he's going to sell the house, I assume, and I'll find another place to live. Here's hoping Mom is hail and healthy for many years to come!

Despite the price and debates about buying a real house, the house style is incredibly calming. Nice bedroom, awesome indoor outdoor experience, nothing too crazy (except the lift). I think if it was built anywhere else outside Tokyo, where land price is cheaper, this house design would sold instantly.
