the look specific to minecraft are largely it's proportions i think.
as long as your game doesn't have the player fit 2 blocks it won't feel like a minecraft clone

I think this comment says it exactly.
No other "minecraft-genre" games really experiment with things like this, and its largely the reason why every game looks the same, and is part of the reason why the genre is called "minecraft clones"
Although, I think a big part of why theyre called minecraft clones also have to do with the fact that the genre most the time, doesn't really add anything new to the table, the sheer exception being "vintage story", which main problems with most clones is that they call themselves "minecraft", and have Minecraft constantly as the basis of their projects, which vintage story did not.

Mojang has stated how Microsoft has little interference with Minecraft's development, aside from a few features (Chat reporting, exclusively)
You really think Microsoft would GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to direct minecraft and decide whats best for it? They wouldn't give a fuck, they only bought minecraft because they knew itd make billions
