Some people can’t get over the fact that Messi had Goal contributions and the trophies to back it up. Also the way he scored or provided the assists , the chances he created and many more things… he has done it all.

Jules is absolutely right, he just had to add the numbers to it. Messi had the numbers to back his trophy (goals, assists, MotM, game ratings, dribbles, etc.). The fact that half the city team was in the top ten shows that it was more a collective effort than an individual brilliance (without discrediting Haarland).
Messi literally said himself he didn’t care after the World Cup. What “game ratings “ are u talking about 😭😭. Haaland one EVERYTHING infront of him breaking the records too. By this same “ game ratings logic” please please I beg u explain to me why iniesta didn’t win in 2010. He also carried his team to the World Cup. Both this ballondor and the 2021 one bamboozle me how they gave it to Messi. And b4 u come here and say it’s the right thing etc the fact they brought that dumb award called best striker award in 2021 removed it and brought it again just to be like sorry I deserve the ballondor but we wanna give it to Messi here is a compensation 😭😭. That’s more than enough proof fifa know what they doing is wrong yet still carry out with it.
@@wuyiwanis3181did you see the stats of messi vs iniesta in 2010? He got like 2 goals compare to messis 40+ goals. Messi got a similar g/a rate like haaland + his ability to inflict his will on the playing field + wc both deserve it but your argument with iniesta is just the most stupid thing ive ever seen
THIS. You’re seeing exactly this even today. If the collective team isn’t good, Haaland isn’t good. Haaland can’t create his own opportunities, whereas Messi can and did. For himself and for others, as we saw in the World Cup. One is a team player and the other is a team beater
These guys are downplaying Messi’s performance over the entire year. 38 goals, 25 assists, and 3 titles in 54 games at 35 is ridiculous. These guys are portraying it as if he was only good at the World Cup.
*>B-bu-but Haaland magically deserved the Ballon d'Or DURRRR* If Messi had ghosted in FIVE straight critical finals: UCL Final, UCL Semi-Final, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup Final, and the Community Cup Final, only to receive the Ballon d'Or due to scoring an array of tap-ins against lesser teams like Southampton and Norwich while another player single-handedly led a team of inexperienced players to World Cup glory, surely there would have been significant backlash against FIFA with claims that the award is rigged for him, etc. However, because it's Haaland-it's somehow justified that he deserved it over Messi. Messi's World Cup performance is a testament to his unmatched skill, his clutch goals and exceptional playmaking abilities were instrumental in Argentina's World Cup victory, contributing to almost every goal Argentina scored. He singlehandedly saved his country from elimination against Mexico and clinched the World Cup trophy against France when he was needed the most. Hence, he was voted the best player of the World Cup and was MOTM in 5 of the 7 games (WC Record), serving as the heart and soul of the team's dream run to glory since 1986. Holy moly, five Man City players in the top 10. I'm particularly so happy for Julian Alvarez who until the beginning of last season was not much heard of and he comes in and shocks everybody.
I’ve never heard of the World Cup being described as only a 7 games tournament until Messi won it, before it was the most prestigious and difficult competition. It shows the level Messi is always put against, just as his season at Paris is described as a flop when if it was another player it would be a great season considering the numbers
It's not just about winning, it's the manner in which he did. Otherwise Julian Alvarez could have been crowned for winning everything Let's get that straight

Balon d or is supposed to be meant for the best individual player, not the one with most trophies or most goals...and in terms of individual ability, I don't think there has been any other at messi's level in terms of combined factors as:- dribbling and solo skills, vision, creation ability, looking defenders embarrassed as a sign of superiority, set piece quality, overall quality and just quantity...probably missed some things too, but that's too for being called as actual GOAT..hope its just a friendly conversation and won't turn into hatred..

For those who keep saying Messi in 2022/23 apart from the world cup didn’t perform that well, he got the most MOTM awards in europe during 2022/23. So ballon d’or is also considering his performances with psg. But many people here write things without even watching actual games.
Facts and to add to that, that’s just the league stats. Only two players in all of Europe had 20+ goals and 20+ assists… and it was Messi and Vini. But it’s his “worst season”.. tell those fans if anyone on their team does that how happy they will be😂.

It's not just about scoring goals but making an impact on the game. Halland scores alot of goals with good supply for the midfield and Messi creates goals by himself.

@@r.sakarollsafe1285 Word to the wise, it's imperative to stay present in the conversation instead of just making up scenarios in your head because you just look dumb. There could be an argument for Griezmann having the chance of winning the Balon Dor in 2018 is what I'm saying
Another word to the wise, looking back at past decisions is how we make better judgment in the present and knows the mistake we do now. We all know past arguments about Ribery, Iniesta should've won instead. Sure, then so and so scored more hence why he won. Then we talked about achieving with your national squad matter most. So what did Modric do to deserve one? Why didn't Griezmann, Mbappe, since you dismissed Giroud deserved one when France dominated football. So does achievement matter? or popularity matter? J. Alvarez for example, achieved more than Messi alone last year. His goal was vital as Messi was. Forced into the team, because Argentina can't compete with Martinez up top. If you want to talk about Trophies and goals, J.Alvarez got it all last year.
Fully deserved. Spent his whole career being questioned over the fact he never had a World Cup, then pulls of a worldie at the age of 35, most MotM awards, scored in every knockout round, about as influential as it gets. City probably win the treble without Haaland, Argentina likely don't make it out the group stage without Messi.
I am a huge Messi fan and have been following and enjoying his career for years, but the Ballon d'Or is not an objective award. It is story-driven, it is social driven, it's hype-driven award. Think of it this way: Emmi Martinez doesn't make that last minutes kick save, France win back-to-back World Cups with Mbappe scoring a hat trick in the Final and awarded FIFA Golden Shoe. The narrative totally changes completely, all because of a fraction of a second that had nothing to do with their individual performances in the tournament. An INDIVIDUAL award that is heavily weighted by TEAM success is ridiculous. If that football is a few inches higher above Emmi's leg, Messi is not winning the Ballon d'Or and the story changes to he "failed to win a World Cup" and "Mbappe is the new GOAT". Messi's performance would have been EXACTLY the same, but we could have had a COMPLETELY different narrative, all based on a freak chance moment that could have gone either way and had no basis on Messi's or Mbappe's performances. Social narratives are ridiculous and extremely biased. And it's what this award is based on. Messi's incredible World Cup performance would not have changed AT ALL if they lost in PK's or France scores at the last minute. Messi doesn't need the Ballon d'Or for me to know his worth.
You speak like a true fan but there's too much robbery going with this white people the worst part is that they are saying he won the award because he won the world cup my question now is, why didn't Mbape when he won the world cup?
This. The truth hurts. That being said, us as a species are all story-driven aren't we. We pay for stories wherever we go - think of luxury cars, iPhone, why Tom Cruise actually rode a bike off a cliff (as opposed to doing it in CGI). People attribute value to them because they tell a good story, and the Ballon Dor is no exception.
Totally agree with this. In 2014 people were saying to be the best of all time, Messi needed the World Cup. So Higauin and Palacio miss chances that prevent Messi being the best. The Champions League has also been the same. There were years when Ronaldo did very little in finals, but won the award because his team got him over the line. So his brilliance was only fully recognised because his team stepped up. It's a very difficult award to say who deserves it, because there are so many factors that go into it. Personally I agree with Lineker; if it was truly about the best individual, Messi would win it every year
Finally a sensible guy said it they gave it to cannavaro in 2006 because italian and defender go hand in hand not that he wasnt exceptional that world cup but truth is football is team game and there is nothing like only best player 22men play and there are several who shine but marketing terms forwards are better to be seen by world so they are awarded move on dont care much about balon dor
Messi was simply incredible at the World Cup but I think you’re right, had France won the shootout, mbappe would’ve been the hero with the not only a hat trick but a crazy comeback. Personally I think Haaland deserved it a little more because he broke the goal record in his first season in the premier league, which is the best league in the world, and he won a treble which included City’s first champions league trophy.
All Haaland does is stand around in the box and wait for someone to pass the ball; he's incapable of creating his own goals like true great strikers such as R9 but somehow him scoring tap ins against likes of Everton and Norwich and ghosting in EVERY final City played (UCL final, Semifinal, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup final and the community cup final) means he deserved the Ballon D'OR.
In the end, the right player won the award, which is a good thing. The journalists who voted deserve a round of applause for doing their job in the correct manner.
@@alanduncan1980sad that because haaland is from norway he will never win the ballon dor even if he scores 100 goals in a season it wont matter as Norway is not competitive and hasnt won anything ever whereas countries like Argentina for instance are powerhouses and have won before messi ever played and will win again after. Haaland is already losing the next ballon dor no matter what he does as it will be the player who dominates the euros to win and norway will not be playing. Sad. 92 years of WC history, 22 world cups in total, and never was the WC called a 7 game tournament until Messi won it (I wonder why). Pele was reigned as the GOAT because of the WC tournaments, Maradonaa was also reigned as the GOAT mainly because of the WC and no one ever had an issue with that. R9, Canavarro, Zidane Modric, etc all won the Ballon'dor mainly because of the stand out WC performance they had and no one hada problem. Messi is simply the greatest of all time and I guess for some people that's really hard to accept and prefer making excuses.
Messi's impact and value this season cannot be quantified basically. Him finally winning the WC, and the performance he gave at his age + attitude and inspiration he gave everyone to never give up is what convinced the voters. I think Lionel Messi deserved to win yet another Ballon Dor this year. He had 38 goals and 25 assists for club and country last season and it’s not just his individual performances that stood out he played a critical role in helping Argentina win the World Cup because he was responsible for their offensive actions throughout the tournament and he excelled at both scoring and creating and he also won the Golden Ball. 8 Ballon Dors is crazy and I get it Erling Haaland had a great season with Manchester City and we’ve seen the unstoppable form Jude Bellingham has been in since he joined Real Madrid and despite that we should appreciate Lionel Messi for not just collecting yet another Ballon Dor to his name but he also won the World Cup and despite his greatness so many people tried to discredit his achievements because he didn’t win the World Cup saying he isn’t a leader he only functions well in the Barcelona system and he couldn’t win without Xavi and Iniesta and winning the World Cup shushed up all the critics but unfortunately we hear people trying to push a narrative that he won a rigged World Cup and it was only a 7 game tournament and winning the World Cup it’s a trophy that means so much to a player because it’s the most prestigious tournament in football and it happens just once every 4 years and what a player does at the World Cup plays a role in deciding the Ballon dor winner and I think Lionel Messi deserved to win it again this year.
My biggest issue is he didn’t play great for psg , you can’t score over 50 goals and win a treble and not win the ballon dor but you know they got to find a way to give Messi the award
What do you mean by he didn't play great for PSG. That 36 year old dude had the highest assists in Ligue 1, second highest in Europe, was top 10 in goal scoring in Ligue 1. 16goals, 16assists, 32g/a for a league season is a great performance definitely not as great as his older standards but still better than 98% of other players in Europe. He even had a better league season than Debruyne, who was even arguably Mancity's best player in my opinion.
You'll say the same story when Messi is standing on the pitch and can't even kick a ball. Be objective minded. You probably don't know others' stats that's why you're saying all that
Messi's record at PSG is by far much better than any other great player. And Hall and, we watched all the goals in a season. Did we see even a single goal scored from outside of the box? We didn't see any goals scored from a free kick! All tap-ins and penalties!
The thing with messi is, the kind of football he plays more often then not is irresistible, absolutely beautiful, be it in a psg shirt or Argentina… Ppl just wait for an excuse to give him the award, the excuse being winning the big trophies… GOAT 🙌🏽

The vote is a calendar year and WC, that's why Messi won it, and if you want to minimize the 7 WC games, know that they are 7 more difficult and more important games than any season in all the leagues on the planet. There is no margin for error but in the league you can lose up to 7 games and then come back. Mbapee was a disaster this year, Mbapee the same, they only had good performances in 2022, when Messi was constant. He's sorry. Messi is a legend living being the best player on the planet, with the most talent today and the best in history.
Messi scored 38 goals and 25 assists at age of 35…He won 3 trophies one of which is the World Cup…He was by far the best player at the World Cup..I don’t care what anyone says, Messi truly deserves this award…It’s much easier to win champions league and domestic leagues, but it’s much more difficult to win a World Cup…Many players have won champions league or domestic leagues, but only a few have won the World Cup…Messi deserves ballon d’or…
Yes, he deserves it. The world cup is not just 7 games. The world cup takes 2 or 3 years (depending on the continent you are from). The reason Haaland did not participate in the world cup is because he did not qualify. Proving that it is not easy to participate let alone win the world cup. So yes Not only did Messi qualify, he won it and therefore deserves it
These pundits are idiots. Argentina had 2 shootouts they won because Martinez by luck jumped the right way. The WC is mostly about luck. Where You and your opponents are born. Would Messi win if he was Norwegian? No. So you can't hold the likes of Haarland back like that. Poor show.
Messi doesn’t deserve it . Haaland was the best player for the entire season. Messi for 4 weeks. How about the others 7 times he won without winning the World Cup . Or the standard change. That’s not a lifetime achievement award
That is incorrect. If you calculate like that Messi made MLS win 2 trophies, won the WC, won the league in PSG, and not to mention its not including also winning Copa America 2021. He won a national cup 2 times. Not to mention assists, goals, man of the tournament. Collectively he won more cups then Haaland.

Maybe because Griezmann was their best player in 2018? Did Mbappe win player of tournament in 2018? Did Mbappe get 5 MOTM in 7 games for France? Was Mbappe the highest rated player throughout WC in 2018? 2 different cases. Also, there was a certain someone named Modric that helped his nation reach the WC finals.
Ballon d' or seems to go to the player with better marketing, Messi might be deserving but when Neuer won the world cup same Journalists said UCL is more important than World cup, seems like a USELESS Award
No BALLON D'OR isn't fair. Mbappé did better than Messi for the same club they played in, and in the World Cup. Instead of being the winner, Mbappé is 3rd today just because 2 other guys missed their penalties. How fair is that?
If there ever is a Balon d or Messi should not have won it’s this one, Messi was rewarded Balon d Or in 2010 for his Barca form that is the same reason Haaland should have won
FIFA is Messi father. I’m just wondering the last 7 times Messi won it without a World Cup.also Robert lewandosky deserve it and they cancel the ceremony but did it virtually to give Messi and awards that let you know

Jules is right that’s it’s not about only winning the international cup competitions because Messi also won it in 2010 and in 2012 where Spain won both those tournaments
Lets be real Bellingham is playing great but is having alot of luck. He goes missing constantly in games outside of scoring like on Saturday. Once that scoring and lucky bounces slows down he will come back down to his level as a wolrd class CM but not best player in the world.
You're insanely stupid, luck?, you messi fans are highly deranged, he's a midfielder banging all these goals for the best team in the world, and you say it's luck?, you're insane
I smell jealous here, in his first season at real madrid transition from dortmund. If you watch his entire game he was missing because the whole team was in disarray, if you have played football yourself you will know what I'm talking about. Jude is the best player currently
Ironic that Uber Eats stats all of the sudden matter and are important when Messi plays there, but before then when Neymar and Mbappe putting up the same numbers every single year and no one cares because it's stat padding lol. Biggest robbery of all time.
Some said to me, reverse the achievements of Messi and Haaland. Messi still wins the Balon D'or, after his 10th one they should rename to Messi Award. So now the criteria is win something with your country and you win the award, I got it now.
Some people can’t get over the fact that Messi had Goal contributions and the trophies to back it up. Also the way he scored or provided the assists , the chances he created and many more things… he has done it all.

If Messi had ghosted in FIVE straight critical finals: UCL Final, UCL Semi-Final, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup Final, and the Community Cup Final, only to receive the Ballon d'Or due to scoring an array of tap-ins against lesser teams like Southampton and Norwich while another player single-handedly led a team of inexperienced players to World Cup glory, surely there would have been significant backlash against FIFA with claims that the award is rigged for him, etc.
In fact, Zidane secured the Ballon d'Or in 1998 after winning the World Cup. Similarly, R9 fetched it in 2002 for the World Cup victory, and Cannavaro won it in 2006 for the same reason. Modric claimed it in 2018 for steering Croatia to the final. However, it seems to become a contentious issue only when Messi is the subject.

Haaland is already losing the next ballon dor no matter what he does as it will be the player who dominates the euros to win and norway will not be playing. Sad. The difference here is that Messi was head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates, that is why he won the Golden Ball in the World Cup. Tell me, who in 2010 excelled more than his team for Spain? Xavi, Iniesta, Cassilas, Ramos, Villa, Puyol. No one performed better than the rest. In 2014? Same thing with Neuer, Muller, Özil, Kroos, etc. And with France in 2018 with Mbappe, Griezman, Pogba, Kante, Lloris etc.
But 2022, Messi was head and shoulders above the rest of his squad, that is why he won 5 MOTMs in 7 games. He carried what was an average Argentina club to the holy grail of football. He won the silver boot, Golden Ball, had joint most assists and most MOTMs. No one has ever dominated World Cup like that.

But then when Messi finally wins the WC and puts in a performance of a lifetime because of everything he did not just goals, now the WC somehow becomes a "7 game tournament". Make it make sense. Messi is simply the greatest of all time and I guess for some people that's really hard to accept and prefer making excuses.
Messi's impact and value this season cannot be quantified basically.
Spot on
My biggest issue is he didn’t play great for psg , you can’t score over 50 goals and win a treble and not win the ballon dor but you know they got to find a way to give Messi the award
