In the intro you mentioned the appeal of snake-like shapes to depictions of dragons. I think one less obvious explanation is that people saw other kinds of large elongated reptiles, or even just other large elongated animals, and assumed them to be snakes. It should be noted that serpentine dragons are often depicted as aquatic, and are most often shown in cultures that border the sea.
the appeal of speculative evolution is one part science, one part fantasy and one party storytelling. And you have all three categories beautifully balanced.
I love the tendrils of the thing, it helps it stand out from snakes and other similar creatures. And I dig that the teeth look like those of a naked molerat. And the sound design of the dragon is incredible.
Your project is the draconic equivalent of the scene in ratatouille where the critic eats the food and has the flashback. I see this and my mind brings the old Dragonology book to to the fore with its wonderful artwork and speculative science. It’s an utter delight. I’m counting the days until your book arrives.
This makes me think of terrain/region specific dragons. Dragons of the desert. Dragons on mountaintops. Dragons that live underwater. Many sweet possibilities
YEAAHH the worldborer!! Gotta be one of my absolute favourites of your dragons! So ancient, mysterious and grand! And I can't say I am not just a little proud of coming up with the belly fire... Banger dragon, banger video!
A massive underground highway is one of the most awesome bits of worldbuilding I’ve seen in a very long time, underground adventurers and shops, I love this world
SNAKE DRAGONS! :D ...and also MOUNTAIN SIZED DRAGONS? :3 This setting is so interesting. Love the mysteries that come with humanity's position in the world.
During one expedition, Viva & Cirrus and her sister Poppy & and her Light Fury dragon Luna have entered the cave, I wonder if these tunnels and cave systems will somehow lead to The World Beneath, The Center Of The Earth, & The Hidden World. An ancient world where life has been undisturbed for millennia where dragons and all critters live and roam freely, be careful it's easy to get lost down there and there are many dangers. But sometimes you get to see the beauty and wonders down there.
Amazing Vid Mr Sawyer Lee. I love how well thought out and logical the animals you design are. I wasn't able to get the book but I hope to at a later date and always look forward to the next video!
I got a question in regards to one of your previous videos about the giants. Could giant species mix like being half glacial and half first of slayer or half sea giant? The reason why I ask is because you had mentioned glacial giants drink ale and that gave me some funny ideas for some drunken high jinx. Keep up the great work love your videos.
4:27 wouldn't it make more sense for the dragon to have lips that keep the mouth shut while digging with its front teeth? Molerats do this to prevent accidentally getting dirt in thiere mouth. The front teeth of a Molerat will stay poking out while the the rest of the mouth is closed up.
dragons, like crocodiles, have a palate at the back of their throat (usually reserved for firebreathing), and in worldborers it closes to prevent the soil from being swallowed
@@sawyerleeart that's a cool realistic speculative evo adaptation right there. It still dose the same thing as a Molerat but goes about it In a different way. Very creative solution right there.
okay i think i finaly found the dragon that even I just want to meet once. In all kinds of fiction that i enjoyed passages underground ( no pun entended) always have given me claustrophobic shivers. the fear of being stuck in an endless labyrinth made of stone and earth is only second to be stranded on open sea ( well thank you dammed thalassophobia). and than to come face to face with this draconic algamation of a rattlesnake, a mowl and a cavebear. that also breaths fire ! and of course its important for the environment ! ........ Gods Dammit im still facinated ! >>" i love the little nug to nordish mythologie with the young worldgorgers feeding on tree roots like Nidhögr gnawing on the Worldtree. and holy moly(-dragon) to imagine there is a whole "highway" of tunnels in this world, even under the sea floor if i read the map correct, and this world has a forest big like an ocean........these dimensions thou @_@ i really like the fact that these kind of dragons is lead away more than slayed too. great work as always !
@ it looks the exact same. I didn’t even take inspiration from his cause. I didn’t even know it existed until a few minutes ago. Both have two front limbs and serpent like bodies, both have boney jaws that are based on the teeth of mole rats.
@PangaeaUltima-xu7hu Yeah but there are countless concepts for dragons/ monsters that share this general idea. Unless you're unhappy with it and want something else, keep it.
@ omg thats amazing. But I need a fully fledged hunting/survival/wtvr tf ark is style game for it. Just imagine how AWESOME that shit would be. Hell, I’ll fund it myself if I have to😂
Hear me out, this world in vr, an almost horror game that puts the world into scale, there might be a few ways to fend off or hurt the dragons, there is no combat, only running, hiding, and outsmarting
I had a question, if you don't mind. I didn't get a chance to pledge to the Kickstarter; will there be another way to get a physical copy of the book later?
I love your content, I'm so glad I was able to catch your kickstarter. Out of curiosity, if for some reason a kinslayer and one of these guys met who do you think would win, it would pry never happen since kinslayers live on top of mountains while these guys live deep underground, but im curious. Also, have any holdtakers squired under one of these worldborers?
Good question! It goes down to the size of the Worldborer. If it’s at a huge adult size, the Kinsbane will be unable to kill it in the way that it’s specialized to, but one of equal or smaller size is a possibility granted it’s above ground. Holdtakers would be able to squire with one, but for a much shorter time. Cleaning parasites from their immense bodies would yield tons of food, but as an athletic flying dragon the Holdtaker would need to retreat to the surface world rather quickly as it ages
@@sawyerleeart Thankyou for responding!! Does your world have caverns underground that would be big enough for a holdtaker to fly in? I remember you mentioning their size adapts to their enviroment so if there was a large enough underground cavern I wonder if one would live down there. I also just realized I said kinslayer and not kinsbane☠️. Also do other cave dragons exist, it's such a fun concept to me.
Their must be felines maybe like some kind of large smiledon feline if their are canines or some kind of bear species because bears can be very adaptive, and I feel like a bear would be very adaptive to like dragons

That means a lot! I put a lot of care into maintaining that
Storytelling is indeed a party!🎉
I audibly gasped when I saw the notification. I was not expecting this one!
The Jade bastionback next?👀
A good video as always

Essentially the Dragon version of a Basement Dweller.

It’s a particular setting I wanna elaborate on more- so much story potential!
@ absolutely agree could write a whole book just about, and in those tunnels
_I am a wyrm and I'm digging a hole..._
Diggy Diggy Hole~
Diggy Diggy Hole~
"Every hole is a goal and every goal is a hole" - Simon, honeydew.
diggy diggy hole
why is the worldborer just a chill guy wanting to dig some holes and eat some fungus
"you are here for the dragons and that you will get" generous you are with your imagination and creation
Truly one of the most fascinating dragon's you have ever made.
This is such a cool dragon, especially since I work at a cavern, so I can just picture such a beast moving the limestone beneath.
Cool job!! And excellent visual
Such a goofy yet terrifying dragon. Gives me huge Whispering Death vibes with some Singetail as well!! Wonderful work as always!!

I love how similar the head shape is to a beaver skull. I could tell because I own the skeleton of a beaver.
the most underrated dragon in the series
DUDE I LOVE YOUR CONTENT I JUST LOVE IT
Oh Yeah, ancient horrors beyond human comprehension Dragon edition! I loved this dragon and the final part of the video

Ancient dragons beneath the earth... I like that concept....

Marvelous as always.

It’s very Wyrm like
I can’t wait for my copy, this dragon was one of my favorites of all of your designs, and that is really sayi nd something
Keep going you content is great and the first of Slayer video was 10/10 keep it up
You got it!
Now I want to draw a world borer vs a kehzu!

Molerats do this to prevent accidentally getting dirt in thiere mouth. The front teeth of a Molerat will stay poking out while the the rest of the mouth is closed up.
The dragon uses metal to strengthen it's teeth, if it eat's metal then it would also eat rock at the same time, so probably not a problem.

Hello from Malaysia..just love your videos ! Storytelling, biology evolution and culture in a fantasy world, what not to love😊

Thank you so much! glad you enjoyed the nidhogg reference with the young, and good eye- the highways extend beneath the ocean too! A whole other world
Ah I see what you did with the wormlings and trees :]
IT LOOKS JUST LIKE MY DRAGON NIDHOGG.
Why do I keep finding people who end up with designs the exact same as mine and having a scrap them?!!?
Don't scrap them. No one is truly original and thats fine
@ it looks the exact same.
I didn’t even take inspiration from his cause. I didn’t even know it existed until a few minutes ago.

Happens alot when it comes to dragons in particular.
@PangaeaUltima-xu7hu Yeah but there are countless concepts for dragons/ monsters that share this general idea. Unless you're unhappy with it and want something else, keep it.
@ I’m mainly worried people will accuse me of plagiarism because the two designs are almost identical.
I designed it a few weeks ago
Ok so when are we getting a game?
Cause the codex is TOO GOOD. Could do something similar to monster hunter but much less boss-rushy
theres currently a minecraft mod planned idk if its still in production

@ the thumbnail really sells it prob your best one so far too
Hold up, Sawyer dropped
The rodent teeth really do it for me.
Big dragon in the heart of the world
Now give em radiation resistance
Is there any chance you will make more orm type dragons in the future?
yes
@@sawyerleeart awesome!
Positive comment
It is my personal belief that snakes are to humans what dogs and cats are to eachother , i will not elaborate further .
For a while I thought the horns were feelers like a mole and that they were the from of its face lmao
Great content!
Thanks man!
Hello, love your vids!
Hey thanks so much!

it would have been the end of the human race if these things were more hostile
Thank goodness they’re (relatively) chill
