John Rambo I was only 2011 then and didn’t know much about history, I thought loving your country for better or worse was something everyone did in every corner of the globe, it shapes your identity. I’m a proud centrist now, and I know that this country has major flaws but I long for the days when we could all respect each other’s differing opinions while still acknowledging the fact that it could all be much worse. I’ve been to the poorest nations in Africa and the people there and 10000x happier than your average American, they’re just happy to be alive and make others happy. Here we just love to tear each other down all in the name of being feeling good about ourselves, while being completely oblivious to the fact that we’re better off spreading positive energy.

I remember hearing this on the news and I sighed in deep relief and I shouted, "FINALLY! After ten long years, we finally got him!" My heart went out to the families of the victims believing justice was finally served, the families can move on, and the victims' spirits can truly be at peace. I know it seems wrong to celebrate and be happy over someone's death, but when it comes to heartless monsters like Osama Bin Laden, that's an exception. USA, USA, USA! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

School was done so I stayed up around 10 PM that night just playing games on my DSi and then Fox basically made a grand announcement of Bin Laden’s death that would catch your attention if you overheard it.
Me being 8 and born after 9/11, I had no idea who Bin Laden was so I found my dad and told him “who was Bin Laden and why is the news making a big deal about his death?”
After that all I can remember was my dad running to the living room and five seconds later he basically let out a war-cry or triumph.

The first foreign officials who fell victim to the sinister alliance between the Taliban and bin Laden were the Iranian consulate and Iranian journalists who were killed in 1998! I appreciate how many journalists remarked on the sentiment of most young people then. People around the world have to understand most of the 20-somethings in that video were in middle/high school on 9/11/01. Particularly folks who grew up in the NY area were traumatized by those events and lived in general fear for a very long time. Imagine being young and teachers/parents always being so sure of your safety for most of your life and one day it all being turned on its head. We saw those towers fall right in front of us. Many of us knew people who died there. We didn't expect to feel that way when Bin Laden was killed, but there was massive jubilation. Although the situation was pretty morbid in hindsight, I'm still glad I was there. It is indeed a major part of the history of the American psyche.

And then I started tuning to CNN and then Fox News and sure enough, it was all over the headlines.

A lot of you are commenting on how wrong it was to celebrate Bin Laden's death. Although I find this slightly in poor taste, I have to give a free pass to NYC and the US for this one. This isn't even close to the celebration we saw in the streets in the Arab world when the towers fell. Many of the families of 9/11 have been waiting for some sort of Justice for so long. And maybe those haters on these people celebrating can see this as a celebration of Justice, not death. Its allways PoV.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

I was at home, and my mom woke us up suddenly.
"The president is going to talk, he has a message for us. Do you remember September 11th?"
And she talked us through that day, how she was on her way to work when it happened, how we moved to Miami to escape the trauma. I was three months old, my brother was four. Then the president spoke, and we hugged each other and prayed for the victims of the attacks and the war that followed.
