Ironclad Games and Stardock proudly present Sins of a Solar Empire II, the long anticipated sequel to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
This video is an overview of the main new and improved features in Sins of a Solar Empire II. Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion was the culmination of five years of development on top of the original Sins of a Solar Empire game and now, Sins of a Solar Empire II brings so many new and improved features over Sins Rebellion that we're going to need a whole series to show you it all.

I love that Stardock acknowledges their modders . Very cool .
We love them
Sins of the Prophets, Star Trek Armada 3 ? Damn all those hours i sunk into those.
@@IIIJG52 Maelstrom and Star Trek Armada 3 were the ones i sunk time into. Did touch upon Sins of the Prophets and Dawn of the Reapers.
@@stardockgames multicore support?
Stargate Races ! too
Stardock really did just take the old game and gave it direct upgrades. That's beyond fantastic.
That is how you do a sequel right. You take the original game with its updates and build upon it. New minor factions, new subfactions, new ships, new buildings, new systems. Just tons of possibilities to improve an already great game.
@@wolfschadow6399 Exactly. Lost count how many times during the videos I thought "Oh, that looks like an interesting improvement to the previous game." More differentiation of the sub-factions, individually tracking turrets... Looks like something, to sink at least a few hundred hours into.
Now this got me really excited!
@@christophvogel1080 The turrets are going to be really interesting if Modders can get them to work with custom ship models, imagine a Star Destroyer unleashing all its main batteries at once
It's all I ever wanted.
It really sounds like stardock has just made a "Here's something that you can mod for the next 20 years"
This is fantastic.
I like the fact they don't talk about graphics until they talk about everything that matters be gameplay or performance
No company is run quite like Stardock. The people there seem focused, clear headed and intent on what they KNOW their customers want, not a bunch of useless features and radical unwelcome changes. Given the current state of the game's industry, it is so refreshing to FINALLY be looking forward to something, the first time in at least 6 years for me.
Metroid prime 4 is coming out soonish too
Rotating orbital structures is absolutely fantastic, and I love the planet movement. The worst part of Sins 1 was the overly static nature of the planets.
It adds a new layer of strategic gameplay, and is entirely optional for those who don't prefer it in game setup
To be honest, looking at mess that Homeworld 3 is right now, this short video is just filling me with hope and confidence, certainly buying SoSE 2 once it's out, it's good to know Ironclad and Stardock are not simply banking on recognizable name but actually put some work and thought into proper sequel.
Really looking forward to more updates!
It's allready on Epic. they did one of thos exclusivity deals.
We appreciate the support! We hope you look forward to the Summer update/ Steam release
@@nonyabisness6306 if it allowed them to fund the game who cares that we needed to wait for it
@@georgek2574 bro, the previous game was a huge success.
they absolutly did not need the money, they just wanted it, no matter if that hurt fans or not. fuckem
@@nonyabisness6306 so, you are mad because you will get good quality, polished product without a ton of bugs?
I was bummed about it too at first, I hate epic as much as the other guy for their ... well a lot of things as of late, but let's be reasonable, the end product seems to have been worht the wait.
@stardockgames I am usually very sceptical about games, but for once I am hyped :D
being able to manage planet and ship upgrades from one screen is an awesome idea
Really love the garrison command! The ai controlled ships that appeared around planets in sins1 that would protect planets and launch raids really made things feel more dynamic and like running an empire!
Making this a tech loyalist ability is a really cool idea and will probably make them my favourite faction! :D
I honestly loved the AI ships I would always call them the state police since they mainly petrol my (the state's) lands. I just wish it had been expanded so they could passively colonize worlds if they manage to clear out a frontier world.
@@theDemolisher13 I'm hoping they can expand this in the future, maybe give us the ability to create autonomous worlds with their own mini fleets. Vassals?
The garrison command alone makes this a buy for me though.
@@joshbarnard A few years I had made a whole idea system to expand upon this system to help make the world feel more alive. If you want here you go: docs.google.com/drawings/d/1hgh8fLc00Gl71LPw4MHvflhR6B7iWmE4UIHRInxsHqc/edit?usp=sharing
But I've always been a fan of the idea you are just one aspect of your empire and your empire still does things on it's own without your input. So you're really trying to influence your empire while trying to work with the world around you.
Maybe if they make the modding system easy enough/powerful we could make such ideas come to life.

I just realized how badly I want an Expanse total conversion mod for this where everything orbits realistically, OPA/UNE/MCRN factions, with misc. independent stations/non-OPA belter worlds as minor factions
Bet you it'll be done.
Amazing idea!
It really doesn't happen very often these days, but this is definitely a "shut up and take my money" kinda game. Looking forward to it, and I do appreciate the level of detail explaining the new stuff.
We've been waiting SO long for this and the wait is almost over.
Soon. TM
My favorite part of Sins was paying the pirates to attack my friends and act like I had nothing to do with it.
They can't prove anything
@@stardockgames*I didn't do it.*
I've waited 100 years for this.... and now it so close to release and looking more promising than ever....ill definitly be playing AND modding this game
Happy to have you with us! Looking forward to seeing what mods you use or make!
I played an early tester that had one playable race and the performance blew me away. I am beyond thrilled for SINS2 to come out. I have maybe 1500hrs in Rebellion and is one of my favorite games of all time. It all looks so amazing!
I was eyeing Sins 2... but now, I am really intrigued. Would really love more of this mechanical overview.
Love the minor factions update. Always good to have options and benefits beyond just killing everything in sight.
I'm glad to see the focus on a new engine that can scale with hardware improvements, at least in terms of straight up ram/processor power. It's been the one thing truly holding the scale of SoaSE 1 back over the years, not a matter of 'can my rig run it?' but a case of 'this is what it can use'. I am also hugely thankful that the rotating gravity well is a gameplay option instead of being forced on all matches of the game. If it ends up being a pain, I can just turn it off and very few programs developed today have features that large in terms of development effort as optional. Baking in ease of modding, especially combined with scaleable hardware use as part of the engine itself is going to give this game legs longer than the first, and it already towered over much of the competition.
So I look forward to the results of the work your doing folks at Stardock and Ironclad.
I was in love with the original game and transitioned to stellaris when it came out. I never saw this game coming but the details of ship tactics and strategy added here customization added here resurrects the idea of fast 4x games for me. I can't wait!
i really REALLY like the Vasari Jumping in
It's the small details that really bring it together
Vasari was always my favorite. Was hoping for new races though
@@rekrn12345that titan that jumps around eating fleets is my favourite thing in any strategy game.
Cant wait for the release!!!
The emperor of RTS games returns
The soundtrack - especially the tracks that are made for/about the Vasari - sounds amazing!
Woot take my money! Really hyped this has been one of my favorite games for years! Very happy with the direction you guys took this in.
Definitely Mine Too!! Can't wait to try out Sins-2!! Awesome!!
I have been playing this game for years since release! The late nights I sunk here, now we are finally getting an official 2? I am so damn hyped! The new changes make it seem so much more alive and interesting!
One of the best RTS games ever, can’t wait for 2
I really like the "solid" "mechanical" like user interface. It takes me back to the original Sins days, and not to mention StarCraft.
Give your GUI designer(s?) an epic high five from me!
Will do!
I'm excited for this.
So am I
Looking very promising. Honestly not even mad that this released as a timed exclusive on Epic. Probably gave it time to be refined before the proper release on Steam.
I love the focus on improving the experience, and making the factions more unique and engaging without devolving to HW3 button spam
So many great additions + good modding support.
What a bright future this game will have.
Very excited to get my hands on this one!
Can't wait for this to be released on Steam!
That's very impressive. I can't wait.
Glad to see the empire tree seems fixed. The way it was constantly jumping around in the first game it made it almost unusable without pausing the game so I don't have tons of accidental clicks.
It was only ever useful to alert me to enemy fleets appearing in my systems, if a big block of a different colour appeared I'd zoom out and look around.
@@user-zp4ge3yp2o Exactly!
stardock I've realized that you've been huge part of my gaming career just now. I love you. :D
Looking awesome, just a straight upgrade. Wish more RTS did this
Heh, guess I have to install Sins 1 again to play it a bit cause I am very excited Sins 2 getting closer and closer now - I was already excited when I learned that it is coming a couple months ago, now it is almost here!
It looks like the same though, I’m not really feeling like 2 is a massive improvement yet. I’ve recently started playing 1 recently and yeah the graphics are a tiny bit dated, but that’s it really
I love what you did with sins 1 and the way you develop sins 2! Happy to support your effort!
Can't wait for the full launch!
Not only am I looking forward to the game, I'm looking forward to this series as well! great video to kick this off!
Would be nice if you could take control of a single unit in 3rd or 1st person just like Call to Arms does! I would love this feature, since the physics are in place it seems doable.
I could see a Rebel Galaxy-styled approach since the combat is simple in terms of controlling a ship and picking targets.
I really hope this means performance is fixed in multiplayer, because I am SO hyped for this game! So many fun LANs with pizza, beer, and Sins but after 3 hours with 6 humans and 4 AI...it would CRAWL
There's a lot of improvements under the hood that should make for a much smoother experience
@@stardockgames Fantastic! That’s how you do a sequel!
very good Infomercial!! :)
Seriously, addresses all of the issues I had with the first game (Not many, but things like management of larger fleets, and lack of 64bit/multicore support).
I'm definitely keeping my eye out on this one.
It looks amazing! Love the QoL improvements!
I can't wait for this game to come out! I loved Sins Rebellion and played it extensively. I also loved playing Star Wars Interregnum. I hope that the modding community comes to this game
Played the game for years and years, but it did start to show age for me. I hope you will continue to work on Sins 2 with new DLC content and maybe add more RPG elements to the game as in more Ship customization, Crew skills, addable ship modules and so on. Looking forward to the release. About time we had a sequel.
I can't wait to get my hands on this game. So looking forward to it.
this looks super interesting. never played any of the prior games but im definetly going to check this one out once it comes into steam
SOASER is still my most played tactical game. Looking forward to sins 2. Been monitoring it since it went live on Epic Games Store. Glad to see how far its come, and that its now releasing on steam.
I have been waiting for this a long time. Though Rebellion is already an Old Game, I still like to play it. While I only on rare occasion I by Games in Early Access, or Since the terrible launch of Sword of the Stars 2 never again preorderd a game I bought SOSE 2 as soon as it came out on Epic Games Store because I trust the Developer for being passionate about their game. As of now I already like what I see and I think it will be a great game. Maybe some time when the important things are done a campaign story dlc would be nice, as I love the Universe and how different the factions feel.
This is going to be great! Can’t wait for the Steam release
great work guys, this looks amazing. bring on the conversion mods hahahaha
As someone who has only recently found out that this game is technically already out on Epic for people to test it out, seeing this video just makes me happy.
Had been an avid player in the past, had bought the base game as a physical copy upon release and then eventually the Rebellion package + dlcs on steam (sadly lost the physical copy during a relocation.)
And now seeing that missiles can be blocked and that, in general, ships can shoot unintended targets when they are in the way... feels like a dream come true. So many more tactical opportunities.
I do wonder though if Vasari missiles function differently? In truth it has been a while since I played but iirc, Vasari had been heavily missile focused in general and looooove their phase missiles. Wonder if they get a chance to phase through unintended targets to still hit what they are actually aiming at.
Then again... Advent Supremacy anyway. For the Unity! May our Radiance battleships cleanse them with holy light!
yay!!! of all new features, finally 64 bit!!!! can't wait till I replay the dominion war in this new game and engine!
I was worried about the shifting phaselanes until you showed the rotating defensive structures, genius!
I never heard this song in the beginning of the game before oh man I can't wait for the release to hear the full new soundtrack 0:04
Aaaaaaaaaaaa
I want it naaaaaow! >:c curse you and your youtuber gameplay previews giving me so many ideas for what to do and how to play and teasing me! Q3 can't come soon enough.
Definitely keen for this
I legit cannot wait for the Star Trek Armada 3 team to make a new mod for Sins 2, you just know that it's legit going to be amazing. The guys who worked on that mod really made it a love letter to Star Trek TNG era fans, they're bloody magicians.
I hope 🙏 do you know if they're still around?
Many of us in the same boat. I still play Armada 3 regularly. It’s the only game I’ve even had I never get bored of.
I've waited 15 years. I'm so psyched.
Cant wait! Can we though have some robust tutorials please?
Okay A: this video was great, everything in it was great, and I'm really proud of being a long-time Sins fan. You guys are absolutely doing the franchise right!
And B: small thing, but could you cover the planet types in Sins 2? That is to say, will Sins 2 have an equal amount of planet types as Rebellion? Will it include the ones from the Forbidden Worlds DLC, or possibly any other new additions?
there will be more including some new ones that aren't in sins 1
12 hours into the game and it is epic. Great video series.
so hyped
god the depth of stellaris and the combat of sins would be my ultimate 4x dream game.
So excited for this
Great game - I hope you will add more factions in the future.
I love you all @Stardock! =)))))))))))))))
Thank you very much!
We love you too!
A few questions about moving phase lanes.
What happens to ships in a lane if it breaks?
Do the ships get destroyed? Keep on course? Can the lane even break with ships in it?
How does culture spread interact with moving phase lanes?
How do super weapons work with the orbits? Can I shoot from or ar the orbital bodies?
Can the AI understand orbital bodies? Will call it be able to plan ahead to exploit or counter the mechanic? Can it path through phase lanes that will be made in several minutes?
Hello! To answer your questions in order:
A phase lane can shift while ships are in transit through it. When this happens, all the ships in the lane or charging to jump into it continue on as normal with no adverse effects. (It's like getting into an elevator when the doors are about to close.)
Culture still propagates via phase lanes so if a planet gets cut off from a shift, the culture slowly degrades over time from any gravity wells that are cut off.
Super weapons vary more than in the original game and now use an AU range (astronomical unit). You can fire at any enemy planet within that range. I would note that this applies to the TEC Novalith cannon and the TEC Rebel titan (who's ultimate is a novalith).
Yes, it does understand the new orbital mechanics and will exploit them at higher difficulty levels (it won't exploit them on lower levels).
Hope that helps!
@@stardockgames Thank you for the answers. This clears some mechanics up.
Can't wait... Never got to play the original, well because I just play too many other genres as well...
Wishing I had though, I'm SUPER Stoke about this game's release... Can't wait!!!
Can't wait to get my hands on this game!
great vid man i just bought this game lmao i cant believe the state of gaming rn in general but this game looks great cant wait
This seems to be coming along fantastically, as a player since Trinity, I'm definitely buying on Steam launch day! And I hardly ever buy games on launch anymore.
We appreciate your support! Keep your eyes open for more details and be sure to wishlist
So cool!
TAKE MY MONEY!
Looks fantastic.
This looks amazing I can’t wait
I can’t WAIT, take my god dam money 💰 💰💰
Thank you Stardock!
Sins was my first pc game and what converted me to pure pc gaming. Have over 800 hrs and half of that being total conversion mods.
Looks fantastic I can't wait!
I can't wait for the new star trek armada 3 mod
😁😁
I can't wait to play, I play somewhere on a map with 300 or more planets and slow and steady empire building, and in each gravity well I place starbases that generate income and strengthen defenses.
And with the new game engine in such scenes the fps will not drop to 5-10
It's a bloody time for SOSE II to be released, how many years was since the original game was released, 16 years. You guys took yourself a quite a long time. Releasing DLC's but no sequel. Thankfully its out now. I just hope we wont need another 16 years for SOSE III.
I am so glad I got this game instead of homeworld 3....
This looks so good and the engine is what excites me the most. But what really bums me out, is that i see no Advent on release. Which feels like on release 1/3 of the game is missing. Probably going to be in an update or dlc though. I saw advent at the end. But it is weird that we've seen zero gameplay of the faction yet
Hello, Advent will be arriving with the Summer Update/ Steam Release. Here's a preview www.sinsofasolarempire2.com/article/527710/sins-ii-dev-journal-12---advent-rising

I really hope we'd be able to see firing arcs in UI, it was quite pain in the ass to learn how to position battleships, because standard attack order just uses half of guns in many cases.
We appreciate the suggestion! We'll take note and mention it with the team
@@stardockgames Maybe a hotkey to make it visible on whatever ship you've selected? that way players could turn it off and on at will and you don't get massive screen clutter of EVERY SHIP showing their arcs all at once which would be at best distracting or at worse interfere with the player's ability to make tactical decisions (I.e target arc UI blocks player view or commands)
@@Fire_Gaming64 This. Battlefleet Gothic: Armada has similar option.
@@Abdoulaye1995 I was super confused because I literally was just playing BG:A 2, and thought you were a mind reader. But yeah the ship combat UI in that game is an absolutely excellent example of how to do good design that doesn’t overwhelm the player
@@Fire_Gaming64 looks like the shopys in this game have many more weapon systems with different firing arcs, whereas in bg2 it's generally one on each side, one on the top, one on the front.
I’m really curious to see a planet up close, they look so detailed! Can you see the colony expand on it? If it is bombed do you see the explosions? The environmental impact? So many questions! Also seeing like 30 planets orbit so close together seems a bit silly xD I feel the star should be bigger then, but I am no astrophysicist … did you maybe consult one in designing the systems? ^^
im so hyped!
First game was pretty good
can’t wait for this gaaame!
Sounds awesome
Love this! Specially Advent, the coolest faction of any space game period. Hopefully you guys can reduce the length of multiplayer matches, as 2-3 hour sessions are too unwieldy these days for the young players with short attention spans (Mobas have rewired their minds into 1-2 hours matches tops)
Please work on getting controller support added to Sins 2! I loved the first game, and I know this game would absolutely play best with a keyboard and mouse also, but I'd love to be able to play this on my ROG Ally while on the go!
I love you guys
We can block missiles now!? Now being big actually mean something!
It just the same game but with LOTS of improvements. And that all I wanted!
And about the Orbit system. The Vasari's Phase Gate Network is gonna be sooooo essential! (Perhaps OP)
