Mitch, I just wanted to let you know that your videos talked me into buying a 2022 F150 Raptor. I'd have bought it from you all if you'd been able to get stock. I'd nearly given up, but I lucked into a Code Orange that someone chose not to accept. First time I've ever bought a vehicle with a text message. The verdict is that I love it. It's done what you said it would do. And it's seen the inside of a dealership for exactly three oil changes -- nothing else has gone wrong in two years! Since I haven't done off-roading for my entire life, the truck's ability to help me in rock crawling and rough terrain while I'm learning is a big deal. And I can't get over a Baja-racer truck that's quiet and comfortable on the highway. Who needs the Benz or the Caddy? It's my daily driver, my weekend playtoy, and my long-haul carrier. Next week, I'm making my second trip from Georgia to Utah to explore some more back trails and try some dune running. Just got the dune flag installed. I think I'd enjoy BlueCruise, but the adaptive cruise really helps -- even in Atlanta rush hour traffic. The only complaint I have is the truck is massive, nimble, quick, and selectively loud, facilitating me being a total a-hole on the road. A Code Orange Raptor seems to provoke every testosterone-based life form in a truck. Road rage is tacky so I have to grit my teeth and practice self-restraint. Lead, follow, or get out of the way! 🙂 Ford really does owe you -- thanks and keep up the good work!
You didn’t mention the most obvious distinction: the wide body!! The fenders front and rear are what give the raptor that iconic look. The wide stance is what gives us the wide body. And you’re totally right, it is a totally unique truck with all the points you mentioned. It is like you said, not just a suspension, axel, technology, appearance package added to a F 150. The frame, 5 link independent rear suspension, dual valve live fox shocks, wheels, tires (37s!), not just rear locker but front “locking” axel, wide body, bumpers, tailgate, grill, exhaust, even the high output Ecoboost, seats, steering wheel. It might be basted on the F150. But it is a totally different truck!
Awesome video Mitchell keep up the hard work!! Thank you for the UA-cam videos they do help me out when it comes to buying me a great truck in the future when I have my very own Family one day.
Mitch, how does something like this compare to driving one of the regular trim F150s, like a Powerboost or Ecoboost, etc.? I'd love your take on not just the spec differences, but your experience as someone who's driven both!
Great points! We will start incorporating that into future videos! But to answer your question, the onroad ride quality is significantly better than a normal F-150. The longer travel suspension soaks up speed bumps and potholes much better. The live valve suspension seems to keep the truck planted on road. And it translates into a massive difference Offroad.
It's a Gen 3 Refresh, or Gen 3.5 if that makes it simpler. Many manufacturers, such as ford, do mid life cycle refreshes. A Generation sticks around for 6-8 years, and they to a mid refresh around the 3-4 year mark, to keep buyers interested and to do minor updates and upgrades. Large updates and upgrades are reserved for next gen release.
Ford’s biggest advertisement right now for the whole 2024 F150 lineup is it finally having a HUD… a feature that’s been in EVERY competitor truck and been around since the 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Chevy threw it in the Corvette back in 1999 and added it to other vehicles in the lineup since. HUDs are such a good feature that 96% of new car buyers who get a car with HUD never buy another car without it. I guarantee Ford has lost at least $500 million over the last 10 years in potential F150 and Mustang buyers just for not having it. Everyone was expecting it in the new gen 2024 Mustang and when Ford didn’t put it in people made UA-cam videos pointing it out as a huge discrepancy in the design.
There is not a better truck in the industry. Agree, it’s not perfect, but it’s the best out of the factory. The suspension is a little too sloshy on road for my liking, but that’s at the cost of off-road performance. Still a great road trip vehicle & overall win for Ford.
Great video. Thank you for brining up the major flaw with the Raptor, lack of Bluecruise. I completely agree. In fact, this is the only thing that prevented me from buying a Raptor R (instead I bought another equivalent super truck).
I heard that the 2024 ranger raptor order banks is closing on the end of the month. That's a great looking F-150. I just got the 2024 ranger lariat in hot pepper metallic. I love the newest generation of ranger. The high performance led headlights are amazing
I think gen 4 will be a direct competitor to the RHO. People are talking hybrid but I don't think that will sell with all the issues powerboost has had. All ford needs to do is give it blue cruise, give the Shelby 525 HP tune, and drop the price to match the RHO. That's it as it keeps it competitive without rethinking the wheel
I wanted black or white, but this red with plenty of black is sharp! I would tint the front row side windows more. I would want the 37 Performance package. A question. Is there a way to increase the max payload without sacrificing the suspension and incredibly smooth highway drive of the Raptor, not necessarily a huge amount but some relevant amount? I'm considering doing some overlanding, not a crazy, heavy full time set up, but a more minimalist approach, yes a pop up tent and some other things, but nowhere near maximizing weight as some do, and I don't want to have it sag in the back end. Regarding Blue Cruise, I'd love it if it was included, but as a subscription, I have zero interest. I do wish I could option the Raptor with the Powerboost. I also wish they offered a luxury interior version, max comfort leather seats and leather surround, massage and such like on the Platinum Plus.
It's a gen 3.5. I've owned a 2021 and 2023, code orange and avalanche, and man they are great trucks. Still got the 2023 and daily it every day. Paid 70k for my 2021 brand new, now the prices are near 90k
I wouldn't mind one but I still have my 2012 F150 3.5 Turbo Eco. that still has a ton of life left in it . The body is still great and the black paint still shines . I love it so I think I will keep as long as it serves me well. Great video.....love the Raptor too !
I don’t not understand how people can afford these trucks. 80k+ for the regular and $113,000+ for a Raptor R. No way people can afford a 2000+ monthly payment.
Not true, also not rumored. You can literally see the pricing on Ford's website. Raptor starts at $78k, with 35" tires. You can then upgrade to Raptor 37 for $11.5k that introduces 37" tires, dual valve shocks, different design exterior, carbon fiber appliques, and leather and suede interior. Then you can go one further to a Raptor R, a $32k addition over base price, which changes even more. A 5.2L V8 engine, dual valve shocks, new exterior design, new interior design exclusive to the Raptor R, more performance, etc. The base Raptor is 450-hp whereas the Raptor R is 720-hp, so definitely a massive boost in performance, albeit for a lot worse mpg.
