The real highlight here is seeing you and your Dad having a fun road trip together. 😊
We had the best time! I forced him into the Race to Vegas spirit and we really enjoyed it
@@KyleConnerbest time ever!
@@KyleConnerThanks Kyle for all the great content you and the crew put out! Best channel(s) on YT!
Agreed, don’t take that for granted
Do it in internal combustion engine.. No worries.
Tom makes 1.5 hr video, Kyle says “hold my Refresher” puts out 3 hr video👍🏻
Gotta watch at 2x speed
Even more impressive is that the entire journey took about 18 hrs, so the edited version of Kyle’s video is about 15% of the total realtime.
Lol
strawberry acai
@@lemongavine I've noticed if I watch a specific channel a few times you can ink the speed higher (the voices become easier to undertand).. I'm up to 2.5-3x speed (need a browser ext for it)..
"How was the trip dad, I was asleep? I don't know, I was asleep too." LOL🤣
The best part of this video is Dave just enjoying the ride and having a great time while Kyle is stressing out.
this is the whole video lol
Out of spec Dave was the hero he pushed the f 150 to get up the hill and they still won. While Tom goes on and on and on about driving further for ea . What would he say if Dave and Kyle beat him on ea.

Dave Connor: "It helps to be 6 foot 5 and 50 pounds overweight." Love it!!
When Dave pushed the eF150 up the overpass he earned the nickname "Godzilla Dave".
Seconded! It shall HEARBY be written it shall be said from this day forward
Haha!

Dad strength!
Netflix should make a series about you and your dad. It was so cool. I'll be honest, I'm not having a very good time mentally, and you just made my day. I had a smile on my face and was laughing throughout the entire thing. THANKS A TON!!! ❤
"I Don't wanna be pushing the truck again , Kyle" -Dave. (I'm with you Dave.) 😂😂
1:49:15 is when they ran out of electricity
@@bradallen1832 I know. It was funny when Dave mentioned it because he was the one who ended up pushing the first time.
OMG - this is hilarious! Love how Dave popped the curb and Kyle running around looking for the adapter.
Kyle runs the truck out of charge and blames the battery! Too funny.
Dave, where is Kathy, OOS Mom? How did you and Kyle head out without Adult Supervision??? 😂
Aaaahahahahaha
Man I love when Dave and Kyle take a road trip. Dave had me cracking up 38min in when he realized that they are only supposed to use to Tesla chargers…lol the whole point of the road trip.
3 hrs!?? Challenge accepted.
Gentlemen! It was a pleasure meeting y’all! And I’m glad it was exciting for all down to the photo finish! 😊
I have really enjoyed the father son trip together. I am an 83 tear old lady and look forward to more races. I would rather watch these trips than tv
no stopping to smell the roses was hilarious
Love the way Kyle made sure to include his dad passed out snoring lol. To be honest you guys should do more road trips together more often!
I stopped at the 16 minute marked and noticed how disappointed Dave was when Kyle said "heated seats off" and turned them off.... HAHAHHAHAHAA . That was funny (to me).
rolling down hill to the supercharger was so awesome! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:49:15 leadup to the rolldown
I have to say that Tom and Pete really won this one. Kyle was driving like a maniac with no wipers in the rain and stalking vehicles bumper to bumper and was driving at questionable speeds. To add though, this is the first time I'm seeing Dave and he's awesome. You got a new subscriber Dave!
Thanks!
Omg your dad is awesome. You guys must be really strong 💪🏼 I didn’t think you would be able to move the truck. 👏🏼
The win-at-all-costs Connors are definitely willing to flirt with the edges of ethical behavior.😀
LOL that's why we love em!
And beyond!
Great video. I LOVE TO SEE FATHER AND SON TEAM UP THIS WAY! Again, great video as usual.
Kyle: "no museum tours here" 😂😂😂
Good thing "Dad" had a nap... you made him push the lightning up hill..
Not a “ son of th year” nominee
I was always eager to get back to this video after taking breaks needing to tend to obligations. The vid was immersive, entertaining and very informative. Really cool to learn so much about the F-150 Lightning, charging networks and the adapter. The conversations and discussions were delightful. Thank you all very much!
This channel is awesome! Just watched the whole thing. As a lightning owner, I will remember that 1 percent issue. Can't believe it let you get (nearly) over that off ramp. Great content!
I can't believe I watched the whole thing over two days. Better entertainment than most shows. It's great to highlight the road trip capabilities of vehicles other than Tesla's.
2:36:45 I need to negotiate, 51%? Ok 51. 52%? Nope 51. 😂 The banter between you guys was hilarious.
Love the part making your Dad push.... Good memories.
1:49:15 when it got set up
Huge fan of the channel, excited for the next 3 hours of my afternoon to be taken up! 😃 Thanks Kyle!
When driving the lightning manually (no bluecruise) if you press the accelerator just enough on a downhill to prevent regen you can effectively “coast” without putting the truck in neutral. The power meter will show a blue line when you are using energy, and a geeen line when you are regening so as long as you see no blue and no green you are coasting! Pro trip from a lightning owner with 36k miles 😎
👍👍👍
45:11 Over time more and more Tesla drivers will acept and help drivers with different charge port locations. I helped an ID.4 driver in Sweden by moving my Model 3 to another spot just recently. I was using a charger with another spot available right next to mine and all other chargers except for one were in use, so I moved over like 4 spots to the only one left to make two chargers next to each other available to the ID.4 driver so that he was able to plug his car in.
We are all just EV drivers so we should stick together as a team and help out others who need two spots for their car to plug in.
I think this was a limiting belief thinking Tesla drivers were giving them looks. They said everyone was nice when talking to them. But in any case people are upset they’ll adjust, and hopefully more charging stations come online.
Thanks for taking the time to post this Kyle, we appreciate it
Put it in reverse Terry! Caugh me off guard 😂😂
I have been looking forward to this video ever since Tom released his video about this trip. It was so much fun watching all 4 of you laughing and enjoying your road trip. Just in the few days since your trip, there are now 3 NACS compatible Supercharger sites on I-95 in North Carolina. I have also noticed a V3 in Ripley WV that was not initially NACS compatible, is now listed as having been upgraded.
This is an exciting time for road tripping EVs with so many new stations opening up with larger number of pedestals. Your first stop at the almost full location was a hoot, with you parking on top of the curb! Way to go Dave, with pushing the dead truck the last few yards to the Supercharger mid-trip!
Tom will never get the pizza smell out of his truck. No thanks.
We need more races with out of spec Dave 😂
FINALLLLYYYYY (grabs a snack and plops on the couch).
Buc-ees location cost Tom and Pete the race . Out of Spec Dave is a true Buc-eeite and knows the lay of the land there.
Think Tom lost because of the power to run the pizza oven. haha
Well done for doing this marathon video edit Kyle 👏🏻
Congrats guys for such an incredible race. In my opinion, this was a tie, for just 6 minutes, I wouldn't say that Kyle won, it was really close.
It occurs to me that if you use more than one spot while charging you should carry an orange cone you can mark off the spot you are blocking. It would save confusion and possible confrontation.
that dually parking in the tesla slot is such a guy who owns a dually move
Ok that was crazy to watch. Makes me want a truck even more, but smaller with better energy usage would be great.
As a completely untrained nerd I am absolutely fascinated with your videos. We're brand new owners of our first EV, a 2024 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD. The car is totally cool, but learning about the infrastructure has been even more interesting. Thanks so much for what you all do for us!
What do you do on a Saturday night? Just watch one more episode of Out of Spec “family”! Nice race!
Ha me 2 learning every minute
Was looking at the rearview Mirros Lightning up when the cars pass by. Fun fact. I work at a company in Wisconsin where we manufacture the led’s that lights them up. BSDD blind spot detection device. Muth Mirros Systems 💪
Tom and Pete did great. Zero mistakes and EA stations that all worked perfectly (which is not exactly common) still lost to Kyle and Dave because the Tesla Supercharger network is so well placed for long distance travelling. Image a more common situation with problematic third part charging and the difference would grow dramatically as will the frustration of the driver dependant on third party charging infrastructure.
I guess this race disproves that tired talkin point.
My wife and I left from Sebastian, FL to Central Maine over a three-day, 1,600 mile journey starting on March 4th, all on AE and it was extremely good. Even chargers that have been historic problems (Manchester, CT) were up and running well. I can't complain.
Heated seats off ... lol. Save like .001% in it to win it 😂
And the winner is.........Ford! To do a 1000mile trip and only be a few minutes apart, while cooking pizza and brewing coffee is very impressive.
Dave is the top finalist for Dad of the Year!
I loved these videos. They do highlight why EVs may never fulfill a common use case for vehicles in the Western US: they add too much down time to long road trips to be economically feasible. You showed that the Lightning was a great road tripper for someone who is vacationing in an EV. If that's what my use was, I think I might buy a Lightning, even though I hate pickups. With that boost, it is a much better casual roadtripper than anything anyone else makes that I have tried or seen so far.
Unfortunately, when you talk about time spent charging, there were a couple of things you left out:
1) if you were not in a "race", each stop would have been extended by shopping or passengers deciding to use the bathrooms after the charging was complete,
and
2) you only timed the actual charging process, not the opportunity costs of slowing down, exiting, pulling up to the chargers, plugging in, and getting back up to speed (you did talk about Tom & Pete's Google Maps debacle, but not the rest)--how much further would you have been had you kept traveling at 80 MPH for that whole time?.
Our experience with driving a trip of 1091 miles one way in a Model S LR added 6+ hours to my normal with an ICE vehicle, and a Model X added 5:45. We tried a Model Y, but turned around when it was clear that the first charging was so soon that we would add about 7 hours. With a Fusion or a Camry we have 2 stops that total less than 30 minutes lost. With a Mercedes GLX 350D, it's 15 minutes faster than the sedans because we only have one stop for 15 minutes total ET loss. EVs just suck at long distance travel where time is money. And, even when I travel on vacation, I am not at all interested in the sights along the way. I have already seen them when the trip WAS the vacation. Now I just want to get to where my loved ones are.
Thanks for the fun road trip!
Thanks for watching!
“Did we live?” 😂
Dad's in these just for the snacks XD love it
Thank You folks for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
48:41 I like how the illusion of taking up 2 spots at a supercharger will be just fine got shattered immediately. It’s all fun and games until there is a line waiting and there are open charging pedestals because some are taking 2 spots. That didn’t happen here, but if they arrived 10 minutes later it would have. Gonna be a lot of uncomfortableness.
I agree. I just took my Lightning from Palm Springs, CA to Vegas. I used a Tesla charger 3 times over the trip. It gave me anxiety pulling into stations with lots of cars. Thankfully they never got too busy. I was able to use the handicap parking spot 2 times which is wider and didn't take two spots. The 3rd time I was able to use the far end spot. In the future I will plan to only use the massive chargers (60+) where it's less likely. Either way, I wouldn't want to try this on Thanksgiving that's for sure!
Dave is the goat pushing that truck!
lol @ negotiations during the last stop
That was classic. Dave had to push last time so he does have a point here..
Hi from Denmark. Watch this video with a smile on my face. What a great race and important testing. That being said, I’m glad that every Europe charger is CCS 😁 then we easier can mix the different companies chargers.
INSANE race, awesome stuff! Truck month is shaping up to be epic!
There’s no way I could do a road trip with Kyle telling me how to drive.
I make a similar trip, NY to Ga, in my Model 3LR. This makes me appreciate the extra efficiency and shorter charging stops.
for real?! cooking Pizza in electric truck!
Did you not watch Tom's video last week?
Heating elements do drain battery
Fantastic video. As a Lightning SR owner you give me hope for a future roadtrip up I-95 . Thank you!!
1:49:39 This is what we all came for. Thats how you stick the landing on a charging stop Out of Spec style.
That was such a close call. Especially with that steep off ramp. Can't get any closer than that!!
more road trips with your Dad. Just awesome together.
kyle starts driving and jumps a stop sign and a red light in the first 60 seconds of driving. wow
Because of the depreciation. Kia bought back our 2022 Ev6 AWD Wind and we leased a 2023 Niro Ev. So we lost 80ish miles of range. Being able to use Tesla Super Chargers will be a huge help. There just isn't enough CCS chargers here in Delaware.
Tom is able to make his first stop 20 miles farther in Stafford (Garrisonville) with 2 Tesla stations (both with 8 stalls, one across the street and another a 1/2 mile farther down the same road) and you stopped in SPRINGFIELD (at the Springfield Mall). While both vehicles were similar, the driving styles and your route through DC, while picturesque could have made a difference in range.
At long last, the other side of the story :)
My favorite part is when Kyles dad wakes him up! :)
Lmao they just lifted the STOP SALE on Blazer Ev a couple days ago and just got a long ad about 20 percent into the video for the Blazer. They know they need to get those sales going. Hope they fixed all those major issues
your enthusiasm is intoxicating, love the excitement
Sure makes one wonder how the results may have differed driving in daylight.
If you go into your CarPlay setting you can stop your phone from blowing your ear drums when someone calls. Just did it myself yesterday 😊
If they had waited until they got to 51% state of charge they would have lost ... Kyle was right.
Kyle, you and your dad sound like an old married couple….. Speed up! 😅
Next time Tom will be harder to be beat . Dave will have to go into training for it. Have him out pushing the f150 for a mile everyday.
OOS road trip babyyyyyyy!!
What a great video guys. Appreciate the great content Kyle and Dave! I am happy to have the same type of relationship with my father and EVs, cherish these moments for sure.
Kyle has his dad push the truck. Shouldn't the young man do the heavy work? Fun channel
I love that son & dad videos!
Love the blue f150!
A great Saturday afternoon matinee with a climatic ending. Thanks for the entertainment. Will be curious about the total dollar cost for each on the trip.
This was so much fun to watch!
By the way, that relatively inexpensive charge that Tom got at Brunswick, GA Electrify America is now no more. That location used to be about 36 cents per minute without Electrify America monthly membership. Shortly after Tom used this station for this trip they switched that location to per kWh pricing, and it is 56 cents per kWh without monthly membership! That $10.89 Tom paid would be a whopping $44.18 at 56 cents per kWh and roughly $35.34 with the around 20% discount with EA monthly membership.
This was great fun seeing the four of you interact. Great father-son/buddy road trip.
huge learning experience for me watching this - goes to show that the old recommendation of "if you want a smooth journey get a Tesla" is slowly fading away. With Tesla partnerships as well as EA improving, they're edging everything closer to a better experience. Imagine this exact journey in 2026, 2028, 2030 and onwards.
Dad does not stress it he is having fun
With only 4 chargers at the EA chargers, if that race was ran during the daytime it would have been a totally different story.
This was entertaining, thank you for sharing this Race.
This test if very real and honest. I'm willing to bet that the Tesla super-charging team is going to watch this to assess what they need to do to make it work.
"I'm going to draft behind this Prius to start making up some time." That has to go on a t-shirt with a massive F-150 behind a tiny Prius for scale!
Ha love it
Damn that map is laggy af in the Ford :/ watched the whole 3h and I'm loving this style of video!
Quality information
Yup that first charger is definitely Springfield, VA not Stafford. Stafford has two stations and both only 8 stalls. Springfield is usually always busy so having other EV’s there will cause even more congestion. Especially if they need to take up two spaces. Charge port location definitely matters here at this location lol
Watched all of this 3 hour video, the banter between you and Dave was hilarious. You both have the ability to tell and story and it kept my interest the entire length of the video. I can’t wait for the the trip to California
why am i watching a 3 hr video for which i already know the exact outcome to the minute.........
