I was thinking about Def Leppard earlier today and how much of a judgemental knucklehead I was in high school. I pooh-poohed this band because all the girls LOVED them. Only in my 20s did I start to realize how awesome they were... I have a massive amount of respect for them now, not just musically but because they survived all kinds of tragedy and kept right on going.
September 1987, Newcastle City Hall (UK) - I was lucky enough to see Def Leppard on the Hysteria tour, supported by Tesla touring their first album (Mechanical Resonance)
Thanks Kel and Rich for playing an early Leppard song! I grew up listening to these guys and still have all their old albums on cassette tape. Their first 5 albums are: 1. On Though The Night 2. High n' Dry 3. Pyromania 4. Hysteria 5. Adrenalize
Pure THUNDER in the New Wave early 80's. Radio station in my car, playing 'Let's Go Crazy'. Prince's classic finale on guitar was snipped for just ONE MORE radio ad to spew. That station is 86'd from my ride!!
Rich, you are right, someone edited out the solo of this song. Plus, thanks for bringing up this song, I was still in high school in my last year when Pyromania came out! Radios rocked this album here in South Florida!
Def Leppard residence in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood coming in August! I'll be seeing them in September! Also be sure to watch the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame concert on HBO coming next week!
I think it's AMAZING how Rick Allen can still play the drums the way he does with only one arm. That's what makes "The Thunder God" AWESOME !!! This was before his car accident though. I believe his car accident was on December 31 1984. I didn't realize they cut out the guitar solo but the video did seem a lot shorter than what it should have been
@@ChrisPage68 Died is so flat and cold when speaking of those no longer with us. I guess it could be worse. Where JFK was killed, it says he "expired". Which I find disturbing.
A really good live version is on the "Live-In the Round" video from the Hysteria tour. Basically that entire live video is top-notch. I had it on VHS when it 1st came out. They play most of the Pyromania album along with a bunch of Hysteria songs. There is also an absolutely killer version of Bringin On the Heartbreak on there too.
I love the early Leppard albums. Pyromania in my opinion was by far and away their very best album and I could never really get into any of the albums that came after. I remember being so excited when Hysteria was announced and being incredibly disappointed by it.
C. Will Harden Hign n’ Dry their best best album, Pyromania was their last all good one, Hysteria had a handful of good ones, of course all of this IMO.
Seen Def Leppard in McNichols Arena (Big Mac) in Denver, Colorado in 1988. They filmed Pour Some Sugar On Me and Armageddon It, there. When they started Too Late For Love, the arena ERUPTED!!!🤘
First time I saw Def Leppard was at Donnington Park, the first gig drummer Rick Allen played after losing his arm. Speaking of Donnington Park and this era of music, please give Saxon - And The Bands Played On a reaction. Great band, great sound, great song... I'm sure you'd love it.
Let it go was one of my favorite songs back then, but it really wasn’t until the last few years that I paid attention to the lyrics lol, you should do a reaction to that one! I think Def Leppard was at their best during this period.
Totally my fave Def Leppard song ("Photograph" is #2 for the record). Love how all the instruments drop in hard at 2:36. The drum rolls are just insane. Saw these guys in concert a few times & they are KILLER. This was an unusual edit. That was Steve Clark who passed away in 1991.
really cool story about the filming of this video. It was in late 1983 for a English TV show called "SuperSonic". It was a Christmas Day show and Leppard was waiting all day to film the segment that was this video. As they were waiting, Elton John was also at the show and they proceeded to get drunk on champagne. About in their 3rd bottle, the producers called them and said they were ready to film. So the band is pretty drunk when they film this...which you can see if you look at Joe and Rick Savage's (bass player).
Yes! There it is!! Thank you for reacting to my favorite DL song!! I have so many memories going through my mind right now it’s crazy! When Rick Allen had his accident, I remember where I was and what I was doing! Way back in those ancient days we had to use what’s called a rotary phone and call our friends to spread the word about Rick! No cells or internet! My friends & I have talked about that and came to the conclusion that it would have been a very bad thing for us to have had the internet back in the 80’s when we were teenagers!! 😂
Hi guys love your reactions! I'm from the UK, and Pyromania is an album rarely heard of over here. I read about it in a music publication here when it was huge in North America. The feature was saying how well the album was doing elsewhere but not in their home Country. Once I heard about it and how it was Rock music, I rushed out to purchase and it became my favourite album from my teenage years, every track is killer. Billy's Got A Gun prob my favourite of them, most unusual outer ever too which is class
Kel might be pleased to know that Steve Clarke, (the long-haired guitarist, RIP), had a bit of classical training, which is largely why the harmonic content of Pyromania is so rich and interesting, at least compared to their peers. He ultimately succumbed to severe depression in 1990, having self-medicated heavily for years. But he will never be forgotten as one of two deciding factors in what made Def Leppard stand heads and shoulders above everyone else, (the other one being their monster producer "Mutt" Lange).
I was reciting right along with you Rich; know 'em all by heart. I listen to just about everything, despite my heavier metal tendencies, Pyromania was an album I nearly wore out when it hit. Fun story: During my early twenties, a buddy of mine knew some roadie working Def Leppard. The night before another friend of mine and I were leaving for a month to Germany, that guy took me to see Def Leppard, then got us on the crew bus where we were hanging out with the road crew, drinking beer. After some time, Joe Elliott climbs on board, sits down and drinks with us on the bus for a little while. That's my, "had a beer with Joe Elliott," story...though I don't think he was drinking beer...I think maybe whiskey. :)

Just after the Pyromania tour had ended, Rick Allen was driving his brand new Corvette C4. He attempted to pass another vehicle, but lost control, hit a wall and the car went into a field. Because Rick was not wearing his seat belt properly, he was thrown from the vehicle and the seat belt severed his arm completely. He also broke his right shoulder pretty good, enough for doctors to say he would not have use of his right arm. They also attempted to re-attache his left arm, but because of a serious infection, they had to amputate the rest of his arm to his left shoulder. His girlfriend at the time was with him during the accident and she suffered sever head and spinal injuries.
You guys will wanna check out the 88 live version of this song. And definitely the live version of Bringin on the Heartbreak from that same tour "In the Round." Mind-blowing performance there. That was their peak.
The live version of Too Late For Love from their Mirrorball album is fantastic. Of course the version from In The Round, In Your Face features Steve Clark, but Mirrorball’s audio quality is superior. Regardless of which one, I get the chills every time. It is a damn crime that it isn’t a staple in their setlist.
Kind of feel sorry for these young kids today that didn't grow up back in the day with all the good music they don't have a clue drank a lot of beer and smoked a lot of weed that every Def Leppard album there ever was those were some good times

a fact
Definitely. Steve Clark was a lick master
Raul i agree ! Thrash metal is more my music but old def leppard is awesome he was a hel of a guitarist
jeremy rock absolutely, Steve was a musical genius when it came to writing music on the guitar, much like Cliff on the bass guitar. ✌🏽
I’ll 2nd that

Tesla did a song called, “song and emotion,” as a tribute to Steve Clark.
Steve Maynard Clark!!!!
David Ballard - and the way the guitars were written and played, it almost sounds like Steve doesn’t it!?
