TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI’s music style has been regarded as 70s/ 80s Jazz, R&B/SOUL, POP/J-POP and ROCK.
They strive for a groove band beyond the generations, genders and genres.

She really is. I just wish her solo had a little less Marcus Miller, and a little more herself in it. Can't blame her for digging the guy, though. ^^

I (as a former bass player) almost brought a shashimen back from my last trip in Japan in 2011.
This one too (not funk, but yet) also demonstrates quite well the potential of the shashimen as an intrument: ua-cam.com/video/mqlsO6iP5ow/v-deo.html
The tune is way older than 2016 but I can't get my hands on the original video. Pardon my French, but "ca envoie du bois!" ("it spends wood splinters all over the place!")

I love this version of what is hip. When I searched for the song I had no idea I would discover these ladies
I think the thumbs down relate to the playing of a traditional Japanese instrument. It's just a little too twangy from me, but I appreciate the skill and mastery of playing. Great video editing BTW

The shamisen is a traditional Japanese instrument but today we're going to break some rules. We're going to add some Americanized keyboarding (Booker T) and we'll see what happens. Damn that was pretty good. Oh yeah that was hip.

2:56 I don't believe I've ever heard shimisen groove like that before. The whole group has this basic very honest sound that just jumps out at me.

My first concert was Tower Of Power right when the What Is Hip album came out.. I'm impressed with all these girls putting a personal touch to one of Towers songs. Each of them are tight with their instruments. They are all Pro's!! Juna.. seriously.. You can cover Rocco's bass work flawlessly..
Hearing that song once for us musians leaves a lasting bunch of musical lessons. They took it beyond& ty for your story.
It's just as good but Rocco was before slap-and-pop. He had his own unique way of doing things, muting with the left hand.

All of these women are amazing musicians; I love the drummer's style, and Juna? (As a bass player myself) I can't even think of words to describe her impeccable technique and her spot on timing, not to mention the way she "throws it down" during the slap-bass style solo. This makes me want to go buy a new bass and some effects, an amp and oh so much more... lol

As a musician myself I know within myself what renditions work and what don't. I like not only what I heard, but what I saw. Allow me to say this: music holds no boundaries, and everyone and everything is connected. We ate the creators. If we comp someone's work, it simply means we like the help out of it! Understand when I say this, it simply means to continue to develop your style and appreciate others style. If you do it on a pro level get permission to go forward, because you will pay! Thumbs up from me to you! Keep rocking!
