29 already!!! That's gone quickly! Seiko Tuna....I shouldn't like it - quartz, day/date, funny shape- but for me it's pretty much the definition of a tool watch & therefore really cool. Good choice, great review. Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah, well said Steve. It just doesn't appeal to me. It's a taste thing. I didn't even get as far as considering the quartz mov't., and tbh, that might've put me off too? If I'm ever asked what type of watches I like the answer is re-issue tool & military pieces at ~$1K. So, in other words: watches like this. During the last few months I've started to realise how conservative my taste is, and I don't like thinking of myself as conservative!
As Tuna enthusiast I learned to love high torque quartz and a great engineered movement. I have a girly wrist but with my SBBN017 never have to complain or suffer due Tuna’s specifications. Great beater watches! 👊🏻
@@yaaxarr8977 My love for Tunas started with a sbbn017 and I was a bit afraid of that one given the paper dimensions. Later on I tried the darth and apart from the height (which you ll get used to it) from wearability perspective the 300m and 1000m (quartz not automatic…) wear fairly similar!
Yeah, well said. I don't own a Tuna but I do own a Bulova Lunar Pilot and 'serious' quartz movements are frickin' incredible and no watch enthusiast should write off such mov'ts simply because they're battery powered.
@@anthonysmith2982 Now, I am pointing to have my first Lunar Pilot with the new Limite Edition Titanium case. Yes, I speak quartz ! I should recommend you to have a Tuna with the 7C46 caliber the second hand hits every indexes so satisfying to see how accurate it is this movement.
Great job, informative and comprehensive !!! 👍 Just want this to be perfect !!! Apparently there is a typo. 😢 Darth Tuna 1 is "SBBN011", not "SBBN001" as shown in the description and mentioned with a graphic @7:07. SBBN001 is the JDM titanium Ashtray Tuna from 1986. I enjoyed it, well done, thanks.
You tend to do that at first but in couple of days you get used to the thickness and wear her just like any other diver. And even if you do bump her of things around you, don t worry… “the things” will survive. Bruised, but alive :)
Great video. I'm not a fan of the Tuna but see it's merits as a design. I own a couple of the models you mention (including the SPB199J1) and a SKX013. I bought the SKX 013 recently at a sensible price. It is a great watch albeit with it's rudimentary movement. But that was always the charm of Seiko for me. It remains to be seen what will happen with the Seiko brand going forward. Is it the end of their entry level ISO rated divers? Yes. :( The legacy watches will continue to rise in price on the second hand market... perhaps to a level where people will begin to get them serviced... :D
Thank you for your thoughts, Mark! indeed, the end of an era for affordable ISO divers. and the beggining of celebration watches made for profit. But yes, From time to time, you can still find 6R Sarbs or non Prospex grails for decent prices.
Believe you are correct. Seems like Seiko is making less ISO rated divers under $500. I believe most of the SKX series will be highly collectible in 5-10yrs.
I've seen only one watch, what was perfect, I mean, with no imperfections. A Breitling Avenger 2 Seawolf with black Combat Dial. Owned and seen lot of watches, even Tudors and JLCs have imperfections, someways Breitlings are really good in this "not a simple dust particle on dial" point of view. :D
Argh! Seiko... A frustrating brand. My Champagne Alpinist is one of my favourite pieces. On a Jubilee bracelet it has the elegance of a Datejust and the capabilities (... + double the WR) of an Explorer. It's a watch that I don't think I'll ever part with. And their recent 62MAS inspired pieces like the SPB143J really should be comparable to Tudors BB58. On paper they're very similar, both re-imagined classics, similar size, similar heritage, both all in house. The Tudor has a far superior mov't, but the Seiko has dia-shield coating and is half the price. The only reason the 2 aren't comparable is what appears to be Seiko's disregard for its customers. Comparable Swatch Grp brands like Mido, Certina and Longines would 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 allow watches to leave their facilities with the QC issues mid-range Seikos commonly hit the market with. And mov't wise? The 6R35 is rock solid once it's well regulated! I've never received a watch from a Swatch Grp brand with a badly misaligned bezel or a poorly regulated mov't, but each and every time one buys a Seiko of comparable price it's considered pure luck to receive it without QC issues! It's a joke and it's a shame. But Seiko don't seem that interested in the enthusiast market. Oh well... Fuck 'em.
Great asessment Anthony! True the swisss brands evan though they aoutomated their processes they are careful on details. I guess that is the difference between japan and swiss.
Poor video with a lot of misinformation. I would bet money that who ever opened up that watch to replace the battery in the past was sitting in his shed. All that crud on the dial and hands would not be there. You get what you pay for so don’t blame seiko for you not having enough money to buy a well taken care of example.
@@bullsharkreef seiko 5 is the less expensive of all Seiko watches. I also own one that my mom brought from Dubai and it is correct for that price, i can do a video to show you if you want when i ll be at home.

Great video ⌚, is the music made by Seiko ? 😄
excellent vid

That's not good, shows what Seikos prioritise when it comes to making watches. Really great video.
Thank you very much :) it is indeed a thing that they continue to make already for quite some years...
Thx for the video, perfect as usual.
This Tuna has absolutely zero sex appeal to me, zero vibration, zero emotion.
Brother for this type of watches try a divecore. they support 2.5mm springbars. They are something else.

I agree. Breitling takes tremendous care in quality control. Love my Colt 41 and Super Ocean.
Never experienced a brietling from macro level, but i assume, they finish the watches accordingly :)
Seiko just brought out the ultimate "desk diver". It costs around $3000, has a truly beautiful dial...with a pair of matching cuff links

Seiko's been making watches for 120 years, yet they still haven't learned how to align markers properly 🤣
