@@TheMechanicsCar-ek1vm There is a difference in driving by yourself across the country in a Van painted to look like the real thing, but running a 318 V8, and running a perfect replica of the terrible idea in a actual competitive event.
Wow...FINALLY A FINISH!! Sidenote...I was at the 1979 Long Beach Grand Prix...it was a F1 race back then and ran more in the downtown area. Somewhere in my collection of old photos i have a pic of the original ambulance van
I just seen the Top Gear US Rubicon trail 4 runner on a trailer, talking to the driver he said he has the Geo and just needed the Ford. He was a very interesting guy. Should get him on here
I wonder if anyone ever talked to an ambulance maker during the life of this vehicle. If anything is gonna be fast, reliable and carry a ton of fuel it's an ambulance. To have one that breaks down so often is quite an accomplishment.
It's heavily customized to be that unreliable. A stock Dodge van of that era with the Mopar 318 probably wouldn't give them any trouble, but it also probably wouldn't go fast enough for the Cannonball.
I'd imagine there has been more than a few finishes in that Van and regardless if the finish is in the front or the back of that Van, a finish is a finish and even the worst finish is better than not finishing and returning home with the blues.
So wait.... Your telling me the real former Cannonball Run ambulance is somewhere in North or South Carolina? Well good thing I live there time to start looking.
@ 1.09 I see something resembling a MKII Ford Transit, that is very interesting, because Ford never admitted to bring the Transit state side until the current generation...
Victor what do ya got? A Lotta goodies for guys, and big gulp dr pepper for me....ima pepper, your a pepper, he's a pepper, she's a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper too? WOULD YOU GET IN HEAR!
There’s so much un-pc fun going on here. I wrote what I thought was a very funny chronicle of it all and guess what? UA-cam pulled it. Banned. We are overrun by daffodils.
Good story. The Van is cool but a terrible idea for a long distance race car. Maybe the crew cab dually was in second place bad idea for a race car. lol
@@christiangreen1477 Jeremy Clarkson? If so the only difference is he would’ve actually gotten some intern to clean it up he wouldn’t have left it on the random gas stations ground or left it to leak into the dirt
Seems to me more of that particular engine is Cursed than the van, in the original and the recreation it all seems to start-and-stop with that engine, take it out put a 440 in it go fast.
Was it your intention to make the thumbnail shot a believable impression of Burt Reynolds exiting the vehicle? I swear I had to look twice to tell it was Ed.
Long time watcher and VinWiki fan here, but watching that huge trans fluid mess just made me lose some respect for the channel. It's pretty messed up to just dump transmission fluid at a gas station in front of the pump and act like it's a joke. It's not like it was a small amount either. Probably a 8-10 quarts MINIMUM from the looks of it, and that's an underestimation. I'm sure if you guys put in more than 2 minutes of minimal effort and thinking you could have found something to catch it in. Grab old bottles out of the dumpster and cut them in half, fill them with trans fluid, then fill with dirt to soak it and dump it in trash. I mean at least put it in neutral and push it over dirt. Just know you probably made the gas station owner and attendants life miserable for a few days, while they had to spend time and money to clean that mess up. Could take a few days of scrubbing non stop to clean all that stuff up especially after it gets driven through and tracked around everywhere. Causing property damage isn't cool or funny. Depending on how the owner had to clean this mess up, it coulda cost anywhere from $2000-$10000+ if using a professional company or a resurfacer. You probably wouldn't think it was funny if someone dumped their whole trans worth of fluid in your garage or on your driveway because they couldn't find a container. I know there will probably be people commenting "who cares" or " you don't have to clean that up" or commenting on how easy it would be to clean that, but I'll just ignore those people because they probably have no idea what they are even talking about, or have never owned anything significant in their life so they can't comprehend the real value of labor and property.
Watching the tracker was nerve wracking the entire time, so glad to have played a part!

I couldn't agree more Jared.
I was merely pointing out it was another hefty Ashmore claim.
No way is that hodge podge van comparable to travis'ssss
Glad you FINALLY achieved a dream. Props to Jared for getting it going well enough for the journey.
Congratulations to all and especially Travis. Perseverance finally paid off.
It wasn't an idea that you couldn't buy Coors east of the Mississippi. It was was the truth!
Awesome to watch this van finally make a finish. Congratulations to you all and amazing work getting it back up and running
I’d like to see folks do a Vanishing Point run from Denver to San Francisco
The Van Finally made it across the finish line under its own power… ole Burt would be proud
Third time's a charm?
That’s what they all say! 😂

This is one of the funnest stories I have ever heard! Love this so much!!
Captain Chaos!
Travis is an amazing person 👍✌️🙏🙏
Was cool to see everyone at the Greenwich event, I was living in town at the time and was only mile away from my house.
Love it I definitely need to read the Brock Yates book. Just got done reading the book about John DeLorean. I'm from Indianapolis
The Brock Yates book is awesome! You won't be disappointed.
It's my jury duty go to book.
Man 3.6 MPG is actually insane. I have a big ass extended cab 1996 E250 that I’ve been turning into a lifted camper and that gets like 9mpg lol.

My favorite video for a while!! Thanks guys!!
I think it’s so funny he frames it like there was absolutely no other option then to just drain it all out on the ground

Gas station oil change 🤣🤣
Here's to hoping the module cooling issue can get fixed so it can make a Cannonball run.
I did the first Bandit run in 2007 with Travis & Jim Shine. Lots of great memories, even appearing in Travis’ you tube video #itssoexciting.
