No, you did not waste the gesso to seal it. Leaving a raw edge/side will cause uneven moisture absorption and possibly split the wood in the future. This is the general rule in woodworking to seal all sides with the same finish, so it was smart for you to invest the time and material.
Defo agree that the sides are important as that's where the wood meets the painting and also the edges are always super porous but I'm not so sure about the back of it being coated...hmmmm, You reckon it's just as necessary? or maybe less so?
it makes sense but this should have been done before screwing the wood together; moisture will still get into the uncoated wood. But let's be honest most art lives in temperature controlled places these days so the effects will likely never be noticed unless it gets caught in a flood or left in damp room.

I’m a trained scenic artist so priming and prepping is right up my street. You absolutely didn’t waste time or gesso priming the back of your panel. Gesso on the back is a good move on a large panel canvas. The large ones will warp(depending where you live and your areas humidity) and they won’t hang flat on the wall. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

Even in a temperature controlled environment, the moisture from the gesso itself can warp the panel when it dries if only paint one side. 👍 Over time, will defo warp if don't double side it with gesso. I love the potato comment! It reminds me of back when I was teaching 4th/5th grade students and my assistants and I were joking that the kids couldn't hear us on the playground but they would smile and wave no matter what we said. So my assistant Drew waves and yells, "Potato!" and the kids smiled and waved back causing us to crack up laughing. That was our potato joke for the rest of the school year.
I cant speak for Jesso or art specifically as I am not an artist, but that is definitely the case with other wood sealing, instead more of a woodworker. Example, if you don't seal the bottom of a wooden table, it can cause the table to warp like a potato chip since the sealed side and the unsealed side will cure and react to humidity differently.
What is the sketch program you use on the iPad. I know you have said before but can't seem to find it. Thanks. I also looked on your description page but its not there. Thank you
obviously I want the art but whoever puts in all that work to crack the code def deserves it more. it's cool to see everyone try to figure it out since I got no talent for riddles 🤣
Hi Ten, I'm amazed by your work! I have a little note on the sketch though. You've written "אל" on the middle of the map. though that means a god (more like in a polytheistic way) That should probably say "אלוהים", which is more suitable for the Christian definition of God
I'm not even kidding. I spent like 2 hrs searching for clues and researching and thought I was getting somewhere...Until I saw other even smarter people on reddit were deciphering codes and data whatevers that's when I realized...I'm not that smart...and I'm never going to figure any of this out..SO!
This is fantastic!! Really enjoy watching... Thumbs up! 💛💛💛
you and Banksy have to be the greatest living artist today!!!!!
Can’t wait to see it on the canvas!
I think painting in UA-cam creaters would be awesome. I hope you do something like that if u haven't already
Such a cool idea
im having so much fun with this its making my brain go funky happy
I cant speak for Jesso or art specifically as I am not an artist, but that is definitely the case with other wood sealing, instead more of a woodworker. Example, if you don't seal the bottom of a wooden table, it can cause the table to warp like a potato chip since the sealed side and the unsealed side will cure and react to humidity differently.
If that’s Jerry Garcia next to shark dude, don’t forget his missing middle finger. Eagerly following your progress on this masterpiece.
Wicked stuff ! Love your art Dude
What is the sketch program you use on the iPad. I know you have said before but can't seem to find it. Thanks. I also looked on your description page but its not there. Thank you
Heeee. I have question. From what brand is your big softbox in this video on the background?
Y’all are WAY too smart. I’m just so lost and confused. Just enjoying the videos and art as normal. Have fun to those going after the prize.
obviously I want the art but whoever puts in all that work to crack the code def deserves it more. it's cool to see everyone try to figure it out since I got no talent for riddles 🤣
Wow, that must've been a weird experience Nick 😳
Damn I can't get to see what Nick left. 😔
I'm still going that the secret code says, "Buy TenHun Merch" like the old cereal decoders say.
Hi ! Can i ask what is your Procreate canvas properties to do such a huge piece without losing resolution ?
Loving where this is going!!!
I don't think I'll be participating but good luck to all of you treasure hunters!
Maybe use the queens position F5, D7 etc. Write down all the moves it does and convert it in hexadecimal?
Hi Ten,
I'm amazed by your work!
I have a little note on the sketch though.
You've written "אל" on the middle of the map.
though that means a god (more like in a polytheistic way)
That should probably say "אלוהים", which is more suitable for the Christian definition of God
Good luck to all the smarty pants peeps out there, God's Speed, you deserve to win the super awesome painting. Ya girl over here ain't the one. XD
You probably already noticed but every time he touched his ear, the screen glitches.
Idk what its about, I'm not a diving into this but yeah; wanna make sure someone knew what I saw.
Also there was 1 frame story of editor Nick while Peter talked about gessoing the back of the piece.
Goodluck!
@@hendricklamar5061 I played MYST when it first came out in the early 90's and they had some glitchy screen images. Probably not related, I've just been watching some replays so it's on my mind
Oh man, same. I'd like to think I'm really smart, but this puzzle is a bit beyond me.
You are amazing!!!
Any chance for a print (or NFT) release for this when completed 🤞
im so keen for who ever wins this good luck peeps
A clue for all of you out there trying to figure this out, I'm sure you've already seen this. But I noticed it and I'm not playing so I figured I'd put it down here for anyone who needs it. The clock on the montages where he is doing the sketch and it is fast forwarded are stuck in time. Everything else is moving in fast pace but the clock isn't moving at all. Not even the second hand.
Looks amazing
i am not really looking for clues, but for those who do, maybe the strange moving Chess piesses are something to look into?
So is gesso basically kilz? More or less expensive? It sure sounds and acts like kilz.
