Hey Folks I am seeing some feedback about the vibe of this video. Some of you think I am coming off as negative and complaining. I think much of the nuance of the message I was trying to communicate in this video was lost and I did a poor job of communicating with this one. I’m sorry about that. I’m hearing your feedback. I’ll take it to heart and do better in the future. I’m looking at the criticisms to see what lessons can be learned from this experience. After all I spent almost 3 weeks working on this video and it didn’t occur to me that it would be perceived as negative until after it was released and I got to check out some of the comments left on the video. I think part of the reason I was oblivious to how I could be seen by some is that I didn’t have negative feelings about this in my heart, so I was surprised to see it be perceived that way by some. Some moments in this video, such as when I went to 4 thrift shops in a row looking for a specific style box to paint & couldn’t find one, so I was annoyed at having to find the box, could be interpreted as me being annoyed with making the paintings all together I wasn’t annoyed or frustrated with making the paintings. I am enjoying making the paintings. I love painting. Doing 3 at once was probably an unwise decision (lol) but I am enjoying the process. What I attempted to communicate with this video is why I am no longer doing personal commissions and some of the pros and cons of doing commissions. This also isn’t a new development. I haven’t taken any personal commissions for 3 years now. But for some of you, it was viewed as me being annoyed and frustrated with these 3 specific commissions. Some of you have expressed that if you were the one commissioning these pieces you would feel bad about some of the sentiments I expressed in this video. I’ve talked to memory box guy and the Pokemon painting lady and they enjoyed the video and didn’t see it as me being frustrated with those pieces. One said "I really did not take anything personal or felt attacked by it. Quite the opposite and if anything, it felt both genuine and very special to be among those last lucky few.” On several occasions I have offered everyone on my commission list a refund of their deposit. When they joined the wait list they were told it could be quite some time before they got the art. Many folks took the refund when I offered it and my list used to be longer. The clients who requested the art in this video are excited for their art and have expressed nothing but enjoyment of this video. I try to share much of my triumphs and struggles in my videos. I think it’s important to show all that, not only to art fans who can appreciate the full process of what goes into these artworks, but also to other artists who may experience similar things and don’t have to feel alone in some of their struggles and adversities. Ultimately, I want as many people as possible to enjoy my videos and I obviously had a miss-step in that mission with this video. It’s an important lesson to learn and I will try to find a better balance between sharing my struggles and frustrations without coming off as completely negative. Thanks for the important feedback. Always striving to do better. -Peter
Glad you will strive to be better. I find that when you face a problem head on, people are far more forgiving. Those people whose commissioned art is on display in your video and who you spoke to directly about the tone of the video probably appreciated your consideration after the fact and responded positively because of it. good job.
I feel like alot of people forget that you are a human with your own emotions. Of course you talk to any artist they find commissions draining. The aspect of not having full control over your own art. I got my Vivvid kingdom deck and poster and love it. When reading your emails about that it also made me sad. When originally ordering I knew that this would be a very long process since it was from start to finish. Unfortunately, people are used to a fast turnover rates since companies like amazon exist. But your art is amazing and you seem genuine so people will continue to support. Keep your head up!
I honestly don't feel like this video was negative so much as a) showing that biting off more than you can chew at once, is stressful and b) that you're a perfectionist to a fault! I think that those who have been in similar shoes totally understand and appreciate where you were coming from. Sadly some folks don't seem to understand that a UA-camr is a human and not an actor. A human who is sharing their real life triumphs and tribulations. I super appreciate you sharing your frustrations with yourself and your decisions because it makes me realize I'm not the only one who does that! Stay true to you Mr. Perfectionist and give super duper hugs to that little cutie Miss Juniper cause she is growing up SO FAST!!
I get that this is real and it's how you feel about commissions now. But I was waiting for the good message that you always seem to have.......aaaand it never really came. Like you said maybe it was lost in translation or didn't come across the way you thought. Regardless. Still love ya and your art dude
Don't feel bad about how long it took you to fulfill these commissions... I filmed my sister-in-laws wedding (for free) and it took me 5 years to edit it and give it to her.. life just kept getting in the way as well as computer crashes, file corruption and many MANY other obstacles but boy did it feel good when I finally gave it to them and no longer had it hanging over me!
As an artist I totally related to you when you mentioned how the commissions looming over you. It's hard creating something when your heart isn't in it
commisions are VERY stressfull as an artist because your FORCING yourself to be creative and as we've all learned from burnout its not easy to always PERFORM your creativity when you don't feel it. Kudos to making it tho, I'm still trying to finish one and its so stressful T.T
I'm a professional artist myself, so I treat other artists very well and I entered a place where I began hiring other artists to help with parts of projects that I don't have time for. I've hired many artists and the problem is usually on the artist. Even when I give them no timeline, they push themselves too hard then complain about burnout. If I make revisions they get angry or burn themselves out, even when it's minor changes I'm willing to pay extra for and there's no pressing deadline (weeks, months, no problem); if I love 99% of the pieces and dislike one thing, I have to walk on eggshells now wondering if they have a bruised ego. When I ask for revisions, they take it too personally and rather than creating a to-do list they frequently trying to rush it and get it done and "out of the way". I've had artists charge me $10 for a item then refuse to do work when I offered $60 for small changes to said item. Look, if you need money that's your thing; but in my experience, countless artists are the problem, not the commissions process. I'll even pay artists more than they ask, sometimes double if I really love their talent; they have a tendency to burn themselves out, and the clients are the ones who suffer for it. Nobody is entitled to your talent unless it's a contract, but there's a point where many artists are just difficult and utterly blind.
I'd take this vibe any day compared to delusional art content. There's a real struggle out there for artist. Commissions are not rainbows and butterflies, any artist who tell you otherwise are lying to themselves and fooling around. And I think that it's a good opportunity especially for bigger artist like Ten Hun to express something that many of the artist feel but can't be heard. I don't consider this negative at all, it's a real feeling coming from real human.
That memory box got me choked up a bit, fellow dad here with a daughter around the age of yours, your work is everything a parent would hope to receive to give their child, I myself as an artist would be honored to give something of that quality to my daughter. Thank you for sharing, wholesome x1000
I can't believe you make your own music on top of everything. I've been bopping to them for so long. It just keeps getting better. You're an inspiration, and all around awesome creative!
I think the fact that you are at a point in your career that you no longer need nor want to do commissions but still put in such incredible effort and produce results that are above and beyond says volumes about you as an artist. Can't wait to see the finished pieces!
I liked that you showed real struggles of being an artist and one that’s evolving so fast as you! I feel this type of stress when working on one painting that is just for my pure enjoyment haha. You produce great content and I liked the realness of it all! Still just as inspiring as your other content.
Being a tattoo artist, i can feel you about not wanting to do commissions because it can become tricky really quickly, but when you're style become the main focus that’s when the fun begin ✨
🤧 this is why I don't think I'll ever take comms. I have a friend who took one and the buyer would be like "can you move this like an inch to the right" for everything and still wasn't happy at the end. When it comes to me asking for art, specifically from my tattoo artist, I just give her an idea and let her do what she wants. I showed up for one of my appointments and she goes "I kinda want to do colour, do you want to do colour?" I now have colour 😂 it just like, let your artist have fun :) it will come out better in the end
@JRW3 not necessarily. Tattoo artists can do their own style in the form of flash tattoos, or they can take custom pieces which doesn't always mean they will get to do the style they really like doing. One of the artists at the shop I go to rarely does custom "commission" pieces, and only does pre drawn pieces that are in her style.
I personally love making commissions for people, using their ideas, views and my creativity to create something unique and different. Basically the art piece contains two peoples energy. Yes sometimes the art requests can be "difficult" because art is not a print shop, but its all depends on artists mood, vibe, energy. But ones you figure out and get out of the difficult part, its an amazing feeling. I always enjoyed every art work i have created for someone, especially if someone have died and couldn't be part of some event or maybe beloved pet died, but with magic of art it can create those memories or new memories that never happened, and beloved pet doesnt have to be something that will be later forgotten about . Thats just my view of all this as an artist.
We received our vivid kingdoms cards just before Christmas. They are an incredible piece of artwork and worth every second of the wait. You were open and honest 100% along the way and we didn’t mind waiting because your artwork is totally worth the wait. Also that is the nature of ordering anything off of Kickstarter. It seems like this is the year of knocking things off your plate and I am excited for you that so many projects are coming to an end, The last super was epic, vivid kingdoms was epic, and these commissions were epic! We are just excited to see where you go next and as these other projects come to an end will happy to see you find some balance again!
I'm sad I'll never be able to get a commission from you :(, but I kinda understand how you feel... having said that my channel has NOT blown up, I am still using commissions to learn and grow and really enjoy when I can make something that brings joy to a client. I'm sure a lot of folks in these comments are artists that are available and looking to do commissions if anyone needs some art... myself included :)
I've received my Vivid Kingdom stuff now and love it. Love. It. But dude, it's sucked some of the joy out of you. Thank you for acknowledging that in the correspondence with all the Kickstarter supporters - I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing you good times ahead. This video was a bit sad to watch, there was no joy in it from you or for you. Take care Mr Hundred xx
The entirety of this video contains the reasons why so many of us want Ten Hundred originals! I understand why commissions are a bummer; I've been there myself. I know you'll come up with a brilliant idea to give those of us chomping at the bit a way to get a Ten Hun original! Keep reaching for the stars, Peter; you're already on the moon, and the galaxy is yours for the taking!
@@SteveOccd11 Read up a ways and look at all I used.. they are perks for being a patreon, I have a t-shirt, a deck of playing cards and I just ordered a poster!!!! Love the emojis
I totally understand what TenHun feels. I'm an artist myself, and started saying no to portrait commissions even if I'm not well-known. Most of the time, clients want the portrait to be as accurate as possible, and it keeps me pressured (not in a good way). So this time, I'm focusing on the style of art I'm having fun with, it makes the art journey more worth it.
I’m in that same boat and I’m now questioning that decision. I totally get the pressure of the likeness and painting isn’t fun anymore but I question that I’m missing out on exposure.
My clients do the same thing, want the portrait to look just like the picture and it's so much pressure. Sometimes I just want to say no and that maybe since they want it to look EXACTLY like the picture, they should just get a bigger copy of the photo instead but I need the extra cash.
@@U9us I do think it helps you boost exposure faster. Though, the other route takes a bit longer to pursue but you’ll find people who appreciate your art in the long run. :)
@@artbytiana ah yes, when money comes into play it gets a bit difficult to turn down requests. Despite that, I’m hoping you’ll also thrive in your art journey!
Brother, I can see the way your success and the stress it comes with is weighting down on you. With the Vivid Kingdom campaign and the big last supper project, the newborn kid etc. but if I was one of the clients whose commission was done in this video, I'd feel pretty bad, honestly. I think this is a bit of a bad look even though I can appreciate unadulterated honesty. That being said, I totally understand how you must feel and it might be in my head but having followed you for many years now, you seem a bit more negative than usual. I'm low key worried you might be heading into a burnout. I hope you take care of yourself, man. I appreciate you ✌️
I totally feel what you're saying about looking for more time. But, its a good problem to have. Right now, I have nothing on the books for the rest of this month and all of next. Zero work, no commissions, and nothing slated to start until March at the earliest. And I'd gladly trade last month, searching for more time and working with hi profile clients over this time at any time. I know its tough but always remember the flip side when you had all the time in the world and no one was interested. Its not a great place to be. Keep up the amazing work!
Mr. Tenny! I just wanted to say that you're completely not alone! in feeling that insecurity and frustration over not keeping it simple. I too feel it constantly about myself and it feels reassuring for me to hear that you do too and so I hope this message does the same for you as you admitting your struggles did for me. I'm such a big fan! I'm going to work with you someday, but until then and even after, I'll forever be rooting for you and the whole ten hun clan heheh. Best of wishes and love! 💗💗💗💗💗🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
✨You have grown your art abilities to the point that you can no longer give simple, and these are lucky people because of that! Good for them, and good for you, because these pieces are going to be BEAUTIFUL!!! CONGRATULATIONS on your final commissions, which are going to be STUNNERS!!🎉👏🤩✨
Just wanted to say that your Vivid Kingdoms playing cards arrived a few days ago and I absolutely love them! I was quite saddened to hear you were disheartened by the whole experience after encountering issues with production and fulfillment. I actually missed the initial campaign window on Kickstarter, but was fortunately still able to jump in as a late pledge after discovering your project! I understand there were hiccups and delays along the way, and I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I can't imagine how stressful that would've been for you and your team. I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into providing regular updates, and the candid and transparent nature of the posts. I could feel your frustration when things went wrong. But your integrity really shone through, and I was never concerned about whether I would receive my project. I knew you'd make it happen. And honestly, the wait has been totally worth it for your amazing designs! The tuck boxes are beautiful and the card art so perfectly captures your unique design style. I also thought the way you designed the numbered cards to connect together was really fun and innovative. I've unboxed them on multiple occasions just to show off to friends and family, and they were all really impressed with the little attention to details like that! Anyway, I hope you don't let the negatives of the experience outweigh the positives. I would happily back another project from you in a heartbeat and with full confidence. But either way, keep doing your thing dude! Your art and videos are awesome! :)
Can I double like this video? Your description of how you're progressing through this project is awesome. The way you talk about how important it is to just keep working is inspiring. Love this video. I've been watching for a while but today I follow
The progression of skill between the first memory box and the second will be such a cool example to the kids of how hard work and dedication pays off! Love it 😊
I have the same problem trying to keep things simple. The work looks great so far, I'm sure you'll make them all proud when everything is done and delivered.
I too am spending this year conquering the ghosts of incomplete work past. I understand the hustle and not wanting this stuff to loom over you again. 💕 Keep up the great work.
I'm in the same boat on wanting to get out of endless commissions. I've sold 50,000 individually hand-painted shirts in my day. I've learned a lot, and I'm more than capable of doing the "big boy" projects, but I'm buried in an endless sea of emails and busy work. Why is it so difficult for an artist to just make art?! 😅
As a fellow artist, commission taking is really not suitable for just any personality... I'm sure many young artists tried it, but if they are not really committed or determined, than it can be clear very quickly that it might not be for their personality or their approach to art might not suit it. Btw, have you heard of the #SaveSoil #ConsciousPlanet movement before?
This is good. It shows hes a real person in a sense. Im not saying he displays toxic positivity but being an artist isnt complete freedom and all fun. Sure it has its pros but it carries its cons as well. I appreciate his honesty and especially the stance on custom work. Some customs i take on come with a weight in focusing on pleasing the client and in a sense jeopardizes your own artistic integrity*
@@theguythattalksshitonyoutube he can still choose not to take commissions. He just being honest about himself , his process and how much pressure he is under. You can still support his art without commissioning an art piece. If you aren't an artist and never worked like this then you'd never understand. It's a lot.
I LOVE ALL OF THIS. Tenhun, I fully support you and have more of your tshirts than im willing to admit but you are such a great inspiration but i have refused to do commissions for a while now, and this just makes me so happy to see you prioritizing YOU. much love
If you are an artist that has done a commission you know exactly how the commission guilt just doesn't go away until its ALLLLLL DONE. Goot luck with your last 3! I totally am pickin up what you are puttin down.
Vivid Kingdoms really crushed the vibes. I hope all of the orders are shipped soon so you can stop worrying about it and the happiness can return to your channel. You've seemed super bummed in all of your videos for a minute. You're good man, we're here for it!
Honestly as a artist and business myself just the title alone I understand where his head and heart is at so bro I AGREE and those that can’t see where he coming from you definitely never had a massive clientele that wants perfection at the same time that they don’t even no what they want
The way you explained how you felt through the process really resonated with me. Thank you so much for being transparent and taking the time to make these videos. I feel like I’m not so alone and inspired to create more now because of you! I struggle so much getting burnt out when so many people ask me to do something for them, but feel a disappointment when I can’t go through with it, or even be proud of it. You’re amazingly talented. Hope I can be as good one day 😊
I totally feel you. A few years ago, I got overwhelmed and burned out from commissions (single mom, needed money) that I stopped painting altogether. Picked it up again 2 years ago but I don’t think I’ll do commissions again. I’m glad you had the resolve to tell yourself to say no and focus on your own art and well, mental health. ❤️
I got my shirt in the mail from the videos where you marked them down for early viewers. I LOVE IT!! Thank you much! Sounds like you have a bit of the Michigan winter blues. I get them. Go outside and look at the sun for a few minutes a day when it's shining. It helps. Loving the commissions so far. Can't wait for part 2!!
Thank you for keeping it real as regards an artist working. Half the time it is all emails and not getting time to paint I am just discovering and I love that you address this. Finding that balance between making good art or good content is also a struggle I am finding as I get back on the UA-cam horse this year. Amazing art as always!
Dear Mr. Peter Hundowtail Thank you for being you. You are an inspiration. My wife and have purchased too many things from you and want more. One of those purchases was Vivid Kingdoms and it arrived today. I know you were sending stuff out apologizing for the wait but they were wasted because THIS is well worth the wait. We have only taken the smallest of peeks at it all but im still amazed. I cant wait to get them framed and that first shuffle. As i said you are an inspiration so ive been thinking of doing a review/ fanboynerdout video with the first shuffle. Hopefully get perfect cut first try. Keep making your art. Keep growing and perfecting your style. Keep making the videos we all look foward too. Take the time away with your family when needed. Keep being awesome and most importantly keep being Peter.
Do what you want. You are only one person and you need to find that balance of work and play. You also got to build as many memories with your family as you can. I personally missed out on so much family stuff in my life to work.
You are an artist, a fine artist that makes damn fine art . Value yourself. Do commissions. You have the right to ask for compensation that makes you excited and happy to make your art! I would definitely design, paint, and “handle” clients’ projects like that box for $100k. You are a fine artist that has more subscribers than people that live in the state of North Dakota. Please please please please do more of whatever the hell makes you happy.
So happy seeing this video. I feel the same as you do in the last year. Commissions are ok to get some money but does killing you slow inside and your creative process in your journey as artist. We might please few clients with their commissions but we loose the opportunity to please millions of people showing what we can really do… Well done and from today that’s it no more commissions for me neither… so free 😂🙌❤️
FINALLY!! An artist saying it like it is. Commissions are NOT fun. Every time I take on a commission I end up regretting it. I always thought it was crazy how much youtubers seemed to enjoy working on commissions. Thank you for saying it like it is.
We've been watching Ten Hun for years... feels lately like there's a shift in the overall positivity to things. I hope things are ok and the negativity disappears and the joy of the craft comes back again.
This video felt super weird. And just imagine the people that commissioned the work. How are they gonna feel with him being so annoyed; on top of having to wait 3+ years? Yikes. Bad form.
He’s probably overwhelmed with the work part of the process and being a new father. He cares a lot about his craft which is why his art is always super impressive and awesome. I think he’s alright and he’ll bounce back. He’s just busy as he said in the video. Give this man credit. I can’t even begin to imagine how much he has on his plate.
@juicemAster2000 so why make the video and add to the headache? Seems a bit mean spirited to have them wait that long and then be so annoyed to do the work; on video.
@@MakerMaddox if they had a problem with the wait, I'm sure they could have just cancelled the order. And he showing this part of his life, with all the struggle, makes him more relatable and real. When people's life on the internet seems too perfect and always sunny, you can feel the fakeness.
0:34 SAMEsies! No matter how hard I try to be light and fun and fast, my projects always get complex and stressful because I can't stop being a perfectionist, doing extra, and just all around being excessive.
You do such great work and while you are always so positive I think its great you allowed your fustration show thru not hiding that struggle. keep up the great work
You always want your next vid to be better than the last vid, it’s a testament to your dedication and the commissions are looking amazing, can’t wait for the next vid, quality as always Peter.
I love it! I’m glad this milestone is almost done for you. It will Be such an amazing feeling once you’ve accomplished. I’m proud of you! Perseverance like Bam bam! 💫
Great video and people seem to misinterpreting discussing the stress you experienced as negativity. I saw it as you documenting your work and therefore your life and guess what folks... Sometimes things are stressful. I like that you weren't just all smiles all the time and showed the realities of being a working artist. Keep it up.
You are an awesome human! I can’t find words to express how much I appreciate you, your content and your ability to generate emotions. Standing ovations to you TenHun👏🔥✌️🤘
I so got your meaning behind this video so was surprised when I read some of the comments On reflection I can see how some could see it as a negative but then that’s what makes us each unique - our ability to all see the same thing slightly differently. I have also read your response to some of the feed back and I hope you don’t over think things trying to be all things to all people as that’s when your loose yourself . I don’t think anyone who keeps coming back to watch you would want that as it’s the real you we all come and want to watch each time and that keeps us loving your creations - you can please some of the people all of the time but you can not please all of the people all of the time - just keep being you ! Xx
I love your in-depth explanations of how you create. You are a fantastic artist and content creator. Keep making interesting stuff because it puts a smile on so many peoples faces.
😆love how it's probably the guide for the paper like running in the background. I have changed my screen 3 times and still I watch the guide every time to not screw up😆
I just want to say I LOVEEEEEEE my awesome new Vivid Kingdoms Hoodie, uncut sheet, deck of beautiful cards and stickers!! Thank you TenHun for being AMAZING your Kickstarter project rocked!!
Just subscribed. I enjoy your authenticity, skill and creativity across many art forms. Making high production videos, original music, amazing works of art and everything else that makes up your content and long list of skills is undoubtedly underrated and under appreciated by viewers like myself. I appreciate you sharing your experiences in a very genuine way and can’t wait to see all of your future projects. I only regret not finding your channel sooner! Thanks, Maker
This really helped me with my stress on commissions < i was starting to doubt myself as an artist because i just cant do them right now. Thank you for posting and being real!
I don't even know how you've managed to do commissions for this long! I've always found them sooo exhausting and it's so much more fulfilling to allow yourself to make what you actually want to. Cheers to your commission free future my dudddeee!! 💪🎨
Six degrees sucks!!!! Mosiac is now on M-139.. it's in that old time grocery store to the north of Henry's Hamburgers. They are huge and have lots of stuff!!!!
Hey there mate, I have recently started watching your videos and am loving them all, your style is so unique and beautiful, I love all your characters so much and the colours you use are amazing. I’m not an artist in any shape or form, I’m just a simple mum of 3 grown boys, 1 in which is an awesome drawer and I’ve shown him a lot of your paintings and murals you have done over the years, he got so excited when I told him you make music also as my son does to, he draws and he creates music and he loves every minute of both worlds
looks dope bro, commissions are rough, i feel ur pain. The last commission i did REALLY challenged me to grow a pair and make something epic and out of my comfort zone. After many personal stress anxiety tantrums and one month later, the final result impressed both me and the client but the unknown of "will I like it and will he love it?" was an awful road of pressure. From now on people can view my paintings and buy them but no more commissions for me.
I totally feel you! It's absolutely OK to get to this point as an artist (unfortunately I can not afford it to myself to not do any commissions yet). Big Up and Good luck - This could also inspire other artists too to go on their own way! It's not about positivity or negativity, it"s about staying TRUE. YesYesYess!
Pete, for boxes, wifey and I would go to cigar shops. They would have really nice wooden ones lying around. Also, wine cases from liquor stores/fancy restaurants work great.
Well, you just inspired me to stop commissions!! Love your Art, Videos, and everything else you do. Thank you for the Golden Ticket Card Deck as well!!!!!!!!! I am afraid to open any of the decks because they are so beautiful!
GREAT video! This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Thank you for being real. I now have more confidence to get back into doing art that I can be proud of instead of doing what other people want...
Obviously Ten Hundred is an amazing artist but it's the production value for me, picture quality, storytelling, the music. So impressed every single time!
Congrats man!! Definitely can relate to having to-do list of things you were excited about turn into an eventual burden as things change in your life. Excited to see the next undertaking now that you're free from those sitting in the back of your mind
I take on commissions but I only take on the ones I have a real interest in doing or feel like I'd gain more experience and skill from doing. I'm the same as you though. I always go above and beyond on them. Doing way more than I needed to. Looking forward to seeing how these three turn out. :)
Good for you bro, this will only succeed in making your art more valuable and give you the time to explore more ideas, it’s a win win and there are plenty of other talented artists out there doing commissions.
I just made a post in my art group that i will only be doing freelance pieces from now on...i lose all motivation when I don't have creative freedom. I dont want to hate and dread doing something i love...if someone loves your art they will buy prints and other things to support you. Much love 🖤
This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. The ad was the best! ❤ I also like your art and how you made your own background music for the gesso and toning down the white ☺️
As an artist myself i can understand when you are swamped with multiple avenues of life going on (family, work, outside of family matters like your parents and family, spouses parents and family) things come your way to pull you in different directions and then you have to work on a complicated piece of art. Also when ot comes to art every artist is different but we can all agree we need to go through a set of processes to get ourselves into both the rhythm and the mood or else the art is not our best
My New Year’s resolution is to not take commissions anymore .. you’re so right about everything you mentioned in your video .. great work and thank you for being honest..
Funny, I just sat down to comment and give my two supportive cents about the vibe of the video, when I saw the pinned comment. I was worried that the video would come off as insulting to the people that commissioned the pieces, but love that you jumped on this, Peter, and responded. Most UA-camrs would just let it fly, and that's why we enjoy your videos so much. I think for most of us, and hopefully it's a validation for you, the fact that we responded to this video with disdain and confusion, is that we want the best for you! I'm a veteran artist myself, having 30 years under my belt as a pro, touring the world and all that shit (in fact your store in Seattle, I believe, consigned a book of my prints a few years back, so thank you!) , and it does get daunting at times, but the best times are those when I know the ones that love and support me reach out and make that known, and I think today proved that you have an incredible group of people that love, not only your art, but wish you and your family the best that life can offer! Anyways, not to get too long winded, keep it up, have fun with no commissions lol, and can't wait for the next amazing project that you embark on. Cheers!!!
Hey Folks
I am seeing some feedback about the vibe of this video.
Some moments in this video, such as when I went to 4 thrift shops in a row looking for a specific style box to paint & couldn’t find one, so I was annoyed at having to find the box, could be interpreted as me being annoyed with making the paintings all together
I wasn’t annoyed or frustrated with making the paintings.
As an artist who has dropped commissions forever as well its the best feeling! Congratz on the almost list clear!
Isn't every tattoo done by a tattoo artist a commission?they are paying you for something they want on their body
I actually love that you've got to the point where you're almost past commissions super happy for you!
It just means you have to make it worthwhile for 10hun. As in: make it interesting and intriguing.
@@BBL_NL Or maybe his no means no?
You Have commissions?? I Still never got any. I wanna make Videogame Character Illustrations. To get experience to be a Videogame Character Artist.
The is the first square space ad i actually watched the whole way through, says something about how creative and talented you are! :)
Salute to this guy who's this busy yet provides us with this kind of quality vids TENHUN ALL THE WAY!
How did you make those emojis?
@@SteveOccd11 I'm a channel member, and Ten Hun has unique emojis for use by members! I'm also a member of his Patreon crew which has even more perks!
The Inability to make it simple is what makes every piece of your art a piece of your heart. 🙂
Love that you still do your own music on the montages. It really sets your videos apart. Hang in there and good luck with the commissions.
Mr.
The gesso songs are always my favorite 🔥
Been here since the early times and it’s been nice watching this channel grow! Awesome you don’t have to do commissions anymore
I feel like there's a lot of negativity in this video, and in your other recent vids. Hope you're okay, take care of yourself and don't get burnt out
As a fellow artist, commission taking is really not suitable for just any personality... I'm sure many young artists tried it, but if they are not really committed or determined, than it can be clear very quickly that it might not be for their personality or their approach to art might not suit it.
Btw, have you heard of the #SaveSoil #ConsciousPlanet movement before?
I agree, but if it wasn't for his supporters, he would be making anything, from anyone (UA-cam, Paintings, Commissioned art, etc.)
I appreciate the way you vocalize the internal struggle of an artist!
Dear Mr. Peter Hundowtail
Thank you for being you.
The custom music creations in these videos is probably my favorite part every time ❤
🎵 “…sand you ‘till you’re smooth…” 🎶
No! You are not being negative. Doing commissions is not easy. I’m sure you have lots of your own ideas you want to do. You just keep being you!❤❤❤❤❤❤
We've been watching Ten Hun for years... feels lately like there's a shift in the overall positivity to things. I hope things are ok and the negativity disappears and the joy of the craft comes back again.
Same feeling here
This video felt super weird.
Wow! It’s an end of era, but what a high. Man, it’s great to watch your skills and style develop. Your art is on🔥
You do such great work and while you are always so positive I think its great you allowed your fustration show thru not hiding that struggle. keep up the great work
I am prone to always fast forward through ads. But I love yours! I always watch it all.
You always want your next vid to be better than the last vid, it’s a testament to your dedication and the commissions are looking amazing, can’t wait for the next vid, quality as always Peter.
I love it! I’m glad this milestone is almost done for you. It will
Be such an amazing feeling once you’ve accomplished.
I so got your meaning behind this video so was surprised when I read some of the comments
On reflection I can see how some could see it as a negative but then that’s what makes us each unique - our ability to all see the same thing slightly differently.
Gaaah the coolness of your own composed music on your videos is sooo underrated.
Still dreaming of a day that i can own an original ten hun original
Just subscribed. I enjoy your authenticity, skill and creativity across many art forms. Making high production videos, original music, amazing works of art and everything else that makes up your content and long list of skills is undoubtedly underrated and under appreciated by viewers like myself. I appreciate you sharing your experiences in a very genuine way and can’t wait to see all of your future projects. I only regret not finding your channel sooner!
Thanks,

The production value of your videos never fails to impress me
This really helped me with my stress on commissions < i was starting to doubt myself as an artist because i just cant do them right now. Thank you for posting and being real!
I loved this video and understood why you felt the way you did about commissions. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for showing the real struggles of a working artist it is not always glamorous. Nice work.
Dude, I think you confuse an "inability to keep it simple" with an "ability to make it awesome". You are a legend !
looks dope bro, commissions are rough, i feel ur pain.
Oh yesss, I always love it when my costumers approve the concept art without any revisions!
Mosaic Resale relocated to M139, next to Ollie's and JoAnn Fabric. I love how everything turned out so far.
This video is bursting with creativity, through and through!
I love your videos. Congratulations on crossing off your last commissions !!
Loving those pieces so far. Can't wait to see the finished versions!
Good for you bro, this will only succeed in making your art more valuable and give you the time to explore more ideas, it’s a win win and there are plenty of other talented artists out there doing commissions.
Juniper's little, squishy cheeks 😍
Can't wait to see what you do this year! Always excited when you have a video dropping!
I just made a post in my art group that i will only be doing freelance pieces from now on...i lose all motivation when I don't have creative freedom. I dont want to hate and dread doing something i love...if someone loves your art they will buy prints and other things to support you. Much love 🖤
I appreciate this video. I like that you keep it real. We all have those days, where we feel so tired and run down, but we have to keep going.
This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. The ad was the best! ❤
I also like your art and how you made your own background music for the gesso and toning down the white ☺️
Mannnn I needed to see this. Feeling pretty overwhelmed with commissions rn.
I stopped doing commissions after my first commission. F that. I feel you bro! It's okay to walk away from the stress of commissions.
I love the gesso song… it keeps playing in my head like an ear worm!
My New Year’s resolution is to not take commissions anymore .. you’re so right about everything you mentioned in your video .. great work and thank you for being honest..
Yah
.. I can understand the commission thing.. and I'm doing a Large one now.. I'm slowly working on it... Totally understand!!!
Least you the talent to paint awesome art!
It’s all good, do what you find fun and makes you happy
Thanks bud, for always giving ten hundred percent. respect.
Cheers!!!
