      There were approximately 540000 Taurus sold for the last generation in 10 years that's equivalent to less than the amount of Camry sold in 2 years what is stupid is the Taurus used to be a competitor do the Camry Accord Altima and cars like that then for some reason they stopped making it and decide to put a car called the fusion and its place when a lot of people like the Taurus and then they put the Taurus at a model level higher as a large car not a midsize doesn't make any sense could you see Honda stop making the Accord and then sign another car called the nuclear or something and then come out with a new a cord that's over 10 or 15000 more in what percentage of those Fords sold we're actually cop cars

    Regarding Chevy SS sales, I'll summarize roughly - they sold all they needed. GM had planned to take a certain amount of Aussie production capacity for US sales. They had no desire to expand or extend production as Holden was winding down anyway.

    My favorite is the Honda Element! I desperately wish they would bring it back! Keep it simple, N/A four cylinder AWD with the clamshell rear gate and the clamshell doors, I would buy one immediately!! If they brought back the SC and also did a soft-roader TrailSport version I am certain they would sell well.
    Also the Stinger is a great car. My mom, who always drove the most practical cars her whole life, wanted a Porsche Panamera or Maserati Quattroporte when she turned 60 but they were well out of her price range. I blindfolded her and drove her to the Kia dealership and sat her in a Stinger and made her drive it. She ended up custom ordering a 2022 GT2 with the twin turbo V6, AWD and the updated red Nappa leather interior and she loves it!

    Can't speak for the private version of the Taurus but the Police Interceptor version was discontinued because they used it to replace the Crown Vic. The Taurus PI was a lot smaller than the Crown Vic it replaced, resulting in most agencies going with the much larger Explorer PI.

    • @lvsqcsl
      @lvsqcsl 5 місяців тому

      Ford switched the Explorer to the CT6 platform and it was rear-wheel drive based at that point. (I think in 2020?) When they offered the 365 horsepower Ecoboost engine on the D-3/D-4 chassis they had to make all-wheel drive a mandatory option. There is only so much traction available from a tire and if you use the same set of tires to steer and drive it affects handling.

    That SS was definitely cammed. Bet was fun to drive around. Also wonder where the engine covers went on the first two cars? You know that those cars were ragged out by the previous owner. Also that Taurus you better make sure the water pump has been replaced if it has 100k miles or less. Just get some quotes for a water pump install...while sitting. Also that 3.5L was a truck engine, and fuel economy was the same. The pre 2020 diesels were avoid at all costs. Last point; the Escalade. If it has the AFM, run as fast as you can. You will replace lifters, cam, heads, etc at some point. People say to change the oil regularly, but that doesn't eliminate the problem. May get you a few extra K before you have to do major engine work.

    • @Inferno45
      @Inferno45 5 місяців тому +2

      The problem with the Diesel Grand Cherokee’s is that unless you are looking for using it for towing or off-roading nobody wants to buy them. So you end up with a low resale value on the used market. Right now there are top of the line Summit trim models being sold for the same price as regular v6 Laredo models with cloth seats.

    • @hitchedtohorsepower
      @hitchedtohorsepower 5 місяців тому +2

      @Inferno45 One thing that really stinks is how the MPG was reported on the window sticker is substantially lower than the actual MPG. I've see the same thing on several diesel cars and SUVs. If people did the research to see that in the CG the Ecodiesel gets roughly 10 mpg better on average than the 3.6 V-6 but if you're just looking around the lot and you see the diesel showed 4 to 5 mpg better the $5,000 for the diesel didn't sound good. I have towed with mine a few times but I normally use my truck and my off-roading is limited to driving on the beach on North Carolina's Outer Banks. What I love about it is that I've averaged 29 to 32 mpg, I've "heard" that deleted the mpgs go up to 35 to 38! I never really thought about the performance until I drove my friend's V-6 and after that I realized how much that 440 ft-lbs makes average driving much nicer. I think they could have done a better job advertising it. I've heard about big issues with them but I've only had a couple small issues in over 8 years. A friend of mine trading in his nearly new JL Wrangler Rubicon on one after he did a trip to Nashville from Maryland and back in the snow then we did the same trip a month later in even more snow but in my GC. He said it was so much more comfortable, handled the snow just as well, and used half the fuel. It was days after that trip that he made that trade. He ended up getting rid of it after a year and a half but that's because he had to get rid of his 1 ton truck but still needed some pickup stuff so got the Ecodiesel Ram 1500. I really don't know what I'm going to get to replace my Ecodiesel and my VW Sportwagen TDI when they finally get too old. There's not much out there that gets 30 mpg with the capability of the Grand Cherokee or the fun, hauling capability, and 50 mpg of my manual TDI 😭. Maybe I'll be able to pick up a low mileage Grand Cherokee Summit EcoDiesel for cheap 🫰🫰🫰

    • @Inferno45
      @Inferno45 5 місяців тому

      @@hitchedtohorsepower True. It also sucks because Diesel now costs $5 a gallon. So it turns people away from them. My v6 limited gets decent gas mileage 22 average but recently in the winter i lost like 2-3 mpgs.

    March 2018, I ordered an SHO from the factory and paid cash. By January 2020, I had put 32,000 miles on it, and I was ready to get rid of it. Although definitely fun and fast, there were just too many horror stories on the internet about how so many systems in it were poorly engineered. The PTU, the all-wheel drive, the water pump, just to name a few. The battery died in less than 1 year. Crew Carwash banned the SHO from its washlines as their equipment had a tendency to rip the factory fender badges off. I had to acquire some black plastic ones normally found on the police Tauruses and swap them out before they would let me patronize their business again. And there were no floor vents! Cold feet in the wintertime.

    guys, you should organize a trip to the other side of the pond… here in Europe almost ALL of the wranglers were diesels, with the CRD engine… and let me tell you, for offroading diesel is king! all the torque down low, and with a manual you don’t even have to ride the clutch that much (i have a Td5 Defender, and in low range i can start the engine up in gear!)

      Interesting you're worried about the Ford which is exponentially better than GM, yet you'd want a Commodore SS. They sold them here new, Holden dosent exist anymore nor GM in right hand drive markets as their reliability is garbage. Those Commodores spend more time on a hoist than on the road.

    Maybe time constraints, but the Taurus SHO engine was actually a Yamaha engine with five valves per cylinder. Why it could rev so high. I hade the first version of the Yamaha five valve per cylinder engine in my 85 Yamaha FZ 750. You could go 22k without having to adjust the valves.

    The Taurus was just another example in a long line of modern FULL SIZE cars with large exterior dimensions and perplexingly cramped interiors. This baffling package is the leading contributing factor behind the failure of the sedan market. Zero advancement. Poor functionality.

  • @DevonReclaimed

    They should have gave the Chevy SS a proper name from their muscle past not just the trim level "SS"
    The KIA stinger was always a fail for me because the concept car was a Miata/GT86 fighter.
    If it comes back it should be that.
    The Taurus is part of that large American family sedan segment that wasn't long for this world without a major overhaul and attitude change.
    These cars are better found at a luxury dealer like Lincoln but they killed their cars too...
    The Element would be awesome brought back as a 4Runner competitor, the name makes sense the styling is there but Honda refuses to make a Body on frame vehicle...
    Diesel is still the superior powertrain for a SUV or truck but America doesn't seem to understand that..
    The new Chevy Silverado EV would be better served with the avalanche name with the styling and the transition to a Cadillac version is a cake walk
