For those of you who don't know; "La Raza" while taking it literally does mean "the race", it is most commonly used to identify friends or family (by Mexican-Americans). Similar to saying "this are my buds", or my "crew". There is a multitude of words in Spanish that you simply should not take its literal translation. For example "que pedo" translates literally to "what fart", but is commonly used in Honduras as a greeting similar to "wasup". Just imagine translating "what's up" literally, makes no sense. This I imagine is true of all languages.
So if I say my white brothers and sisters or borrow la raza from latinos and simply proclaim My Race or My People when I greet my fellow friends, relatives or white coworkers you got a problem with that ?

One Language recognized doesn't mean you can't still speak spanish, russian, french, italian, german or eskimo. Yes I agree, I lived in a border town all my life and I am hispanic. The term la Raza is not one indicating racial superiority like its translation implies but rather a term used to describe togetherness and unity within hispanics. The closest cultural counterpart would be like an african american saying brotha to a fellow african american. If you translate a lot of Mexican spanish into english the literal meaning sometimes doesn't coincide with the actual meaning of the phrase.
