@@danieltalksEA247 I didn’t compare the coaches. Dan said there is no pressure being the USMNT coach. I’m stating that if there was no pressure on a coach Gregg would still have the job.
@@Xx509ASSASSINxX That's being a bit pedantic; compared to any other country that's been consistently ranked in the top 20 of men's soccer, the US probably has less pressure on them to get results than anyone else. Fundamentally US Soccer is more content to sit in mediocrity and is more willing than other relevant soccer countries to appoint members of their "Old Boys Club" rather than push the performance bar higher; whether that's due to having no relegation system, running youth academies like a corporation and prioritizing profits over developing as many young players as possible or other causes is up for debate. Just compare them to Mexico; they've been going through managers like crazy and if anyone had been in charge as long as Gregg and done as poor of a job, they'd have probably gone into hiding due to how many death threats they'd have gotten by now. Other top countries have fired managers for WAY smaller offenses than what Gregg got away with (Japan nearly fired Moriyasu leading up to the last WC for a fraction of the bad results that Gregg produced).
What do all those people who said it was an impossible idea and bad journalism when Poch was suggested have to say now? Ok. I am more optimistic with this appointment but hardly any guarantee of significant improvement in performance with the players we have. We'll see. Looking forward to it.
I'm Spurs through and through and know how great Poch can be, especially having to deal with a chairman in Daniel Levy who didn't give him a transfer for 517 days at one point in his tenure. He DID Break his Trophy duck (Sadly he didn't at Tottenham) with PSG a couple years ago so perhaps he feels as though he does need a different challenge, but I feel the ceiling is quite low knowing he won't ever win anything tangible being the USMNT coach.Bottom line: What DEFINES success with USMNT? "Mauricio Pochettino! He's Magic! Y'know"!!
For most US fans, success would be getting to quarterfinals at the world cup. What USMNT fans want to really see is improvement, especially after 6 years of horrible tactics under Berhalter.
This will all end in tears. Reality is these US players just aren't that good. If they were, they'd be playing at the biggest and best clubs, yet no one seems to want to sign them after they proved they're not good enough when playing in the best leagues in Europe.
Not sure you can say qtr or semi is the minimal requirement when you don’t know who you could be facing in the knockout stages. They will definitely have to beat teams that on paper at least will be better than them. You have to take it a game at a time and firstly make sure you get past the group stages and if you qualify as the second team you’ll be facing the winner of another group.
Stevie is right, most of the time he is and people just dont like how frank he is...its refreshing. Poch will make them play or he would probably would resign. That's the type of guy he is.
Jesus - I won't be able to make fun of the USMNT for much longer. I still think their talent pool is over-rated but with a manager like Poch I am sure they're going to improve massively quite quickly.
Part of the problem was Berhalter, other part was the players. Some of the key players were usually injured or barely played at all with their clubs. Other players play in low level leagues. Those key players need to find another mid level club where they will play and get better. Pochettino isn’t a winning coach, but he does do well with young players. Hopefully it goes well
I agree that the players take some of the responsibility. But I think all except maybe 1 of the starting 11 plays in one of Europe's top leagues. So I think the other things you highlighted such as playing time and injuries are true but not league quality, at least for the first 11.
Well they've definitely stepped up a class in coach but the USMNT needed an offensive minded coach. Not gonna win any games if they can't score which has been an issue
Steve makes a great point, this sounds crazy but American soccer is a newer version of the same game Steve used to play..... aggressive, Counter based, direct and mean.....Poch is a good coach but he cant Euro this team out and his past doesnt show he can push a team to be tough and successful. I hope this role fits him because we need it....
Dan really has forgotten about it never bothered to learn about the supporter groups boycotting the team until they sacked Berhalter, nor about the potential of sponsors as well. He’s thinking about the general public in the US, but the actual supporters of the team REALLY care…
Im not 100% in yet, the PSG stats are worthless, they had the best built football team in the history of football. And these are Americans that grew up playing crappy American style soccer.
Where are you living Dan? Stevie’s absolutely right. If Poch doesn’t have success then it’s going to bring an even bigger hate than Burhalter got. If the USMNT doesn’t show great improvement it’s going to dominate the media.
I thank that england fédération would take pochetinno. Pochetinno was very good to manage england. But it is good now for usa with youngers generation. He likes manage the youngers and give beautiful football
The USMNT wants to hire a visionary who can develop young talent. There are more than 64 million people of Latino or Hispanic origin in the States. He would connect with all the Spanish speakers which could be a source of success for the USA. I also think he'll start recruiting little-known youngsters and moulding a team for the future. He must be given between 8 and10 years to really achieve something positive for the stars and stripes.
I want him to not just tell the MNT he’s in charge, I want him to prove it. They don’t have a say in the roster, the starters, nothing. If they aren’t playing well with their clubs, they don’t get call-ups.

I know I’m not the only one who is looking forward to seeing Craig Burley’s reaction to this appointment 😂😂
I hope he's in tomorrow
Vaaamos! 🇦🇷 / 🇺🇸
Marsch who?
Great news for all us Yankees and lets hope he can work his way up to the big job of the USWLJBTNT
I love that one of his terms is that the team is called USA and not USMNT. What a boss.
Finally, a top flight manager for the USMNT!
Thank God 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Let's go poch that a good hire
The players are going to have to step it up now. Poch is going to hold them accountable.
Those fragile americans can't handle poch
Well they've definitely stepped up a class in coach but the USMNT needed an offensive minded coach. Not gonna win any games if they can't score which has been an issue
One thing i couldnt agree more, "when the players weren't performing it was gregg. Now players are under the microscope
Eh. Gaffer always has the spotlight. Was, is, eva shal b. But yes this hire does put @ least initially pressure on the XI 2 produce (!)
It will be interesting to see how he will do with USMNT.
Poch bottled a squad with prime Neymar, Messi, Di Maria, and Mbappe😂😂 US fans will sadly learn that he’s not world class
My guess is Poch could probably get the job done in the 2nd tier of Swedish football though so compared to Gregg he's a "slight" upgrade.
Is better than any MLS mediocre head coach
We are not good enough to make it to the quarters in the WC. We could have Pep or Klopp as manager, just dont have that quality besides Pulisic.
Where are you living Dan? Stevie’s absolutely right. If Poch doesn’t have success then it’s going to bring an even bigger hate than Burhalter got. If the USMNT doesn’t show great improvement it’s going to dominate the media.
4:22Bro threw England in there like weren’t gonna notice 😂😂
steve nicol always speaking facts
I thank that england fédération would take pochetinno. Pochetinno was very good to manage england.
But it is good now for usa with youngers generation.
He likes manage the youngers and give beautiful football
Dan__bless his heart
😂😂 Dan winding up Stevie, always hilarious 😂😂😂
Solo quiero que usa siga siendo el padre de mexico.
Saludos desde argentina :)
This is amazing!
Well put up or shut up... Are they hungry enough to make a miracle on the pitch.
